like it's a mall food court yes, but it's solid among all the greasy options in the food court that start to taste similar the longer you stand there trying to pick something. i appreciate the hand rolls the most because i grab a couple or three and eat them while walking around shopping lol. service is prompt and everything is made in front of you. and i like the vintage look of the cafe, its cute. read more

Really love the sushi here. Service is super quick and they are always very friendly. The lady always makes sure I have something to drink too I'm vegan of course so I had the vegetable rolls. Both the Green Roll and Avocado Roll were wonderful and tasted very fresh and veggies were crisp & avo was perfectly ripe. The rice is warm & sticky and it's just oh so delicious. Sushi cafe is located in the food court at Providence Place Mall. We saw sushi and thought why not try it. We ordered the any 2 rolls for $10.99. For this, I chose the California roll and shrimp tempura roll. There were 8 pieces of the California roll and 6 pieces of the shrimp tempura roll. My husband ordered the Green Dragon and Volcano roll. The prices are a little steep for the quality of the food. The rice was a bit overcooked and mushy. Also, some pieces were falling apart. The flavor was there, but overall not good sushi. The women who took our order and prepared our meals was nice and service was fast. She did wear gloves when preparing the food. The flavor is the best part which is important but the temperature wasn't as cold as I think sushi should be served. The rolls fell apart and weren't tight, they were difficult to eat. The soy sauce was virtually tasteless and was served in a to go container; it tasted like brown water so I'm not sure what was going on with it. The ginger was an off flavor as well. Both rolls and a bottle of Diet Coke cost $25 but this perhaps could have been just a bit better to get up to 4 stars. idk why I got a sushi craving at the mall lol, but I walked over and saw that "Today's Special" was $10 for 16 pieces of sushi so I just went with my instinct. All of them tasted fine- it was cheaper and lowkey tasted the same in comparison to another sushi place I go to in Providence, so overall this was the better deal. The shrimp tempura was my favorite. It's Mall food, so you're expectations can't really be that high. But surprisingly, I like the Sushi here. I have tried tempura shrimp rolls in the past which were delicious for a great price and recently had some simple avocado roll. What can I say, the avocado was nice and fresh which is the most I can ask for. Fast service, friendly, relatively low prices and good food. What makes good sushi? Most people would say the freshness of the seafood when in fact it's the rice. In fact most fish that is used in 4star sushi is slightly aged (it's not fresh caught) Some is especially if used as sashimi. So the rice at Sushi Cafe is high grade sushi rice and would have earned another star if it wasn't for the fact that the ratio of rice to protein on the nigiri sushi is completely off. Also the filling in the California roll is unbalanced. A little more crab and less cucumber. It is one of the healthier options in the Providence Place food court so it gets points for that also. read more

Not sure what possessed me to eat here while I was getting lunch with family in Providence Place Mall, Rhode Island. Oh yes, it's the only vaguely healthy option - and it certainly is healthy. I'm not sure why I was charged $11 for a small roll when there were other options of the same or lesser price for a 16 piece sushi platter ($9.99), and I had just a few small pieces. Family immediately said 'why are you getting sushi from a shopping mall', which I've got to admit, made me think. Oh yeah. That's not really where you go for good sushi. I think I was overcharged and that put a bad taste in my mouth from the off. I didn't know how much i would be charged, and they should have explained my options a bit better, as it is confusing and inconsistent pricing. Everyone else got a filling meal from the Chinese place next door and other spots for around $7 - 8. I know sushi is different but it was not good value and the quantity was tiny. The water was also overpriced which I got after I'd finished my meal. As the only healthy place to eat a meal at Providence Pl: 5 *. Great idea. For what it is: 2 *. Overpriced and unimaginative. Sushi didn't bind together well. Didn't come with anything except soy, ginger and wasabi. Barely felt like a meal, and cost 50% more than my family's meals at other outlets. read more

One of the better places in the food court my four go to rolls are the chicken roll the California roll the fried shrimp roll and the fried chicken roll. Always made to order with pickled ginger and wasabi . The portion size are descent so if you want to try sushi and and you want something that's a little healthier than the rest of the food court than sushi cafe is the place to go. read more

This restaurant is downright disgusting. I love sushi and I've been eating it practically my whole life. I've never once had any issues with it until I ate sushi from this restaurant. Not only did the service suck because they forgot my order and didn't apologize for making me watch while they served 4 customers after me, the food sucks because it's given me diarrhea. I've never had diarrhea from sushi before. How bad does their food have to be to do that to me? Or maybe it was the fact that they mistakenly put my food on a plate for dine-in instead of in a container for take-out like I requested. So what did the chef do to correct it? He moved the sushi from the plate to the container with the same filthy hands he used to wipe the area down with a disgusting, old rag he used to wipe everything. He even used it to wipe my container! Did he have to transfer all that bacteria to my container? It didn't register with me at the time because I was so focused on "I need to hurry up and eat before the movie starts" that I didn't put two and two together until I reflected on it afterward. Don't waste your money eating here. It just isn't worth it. Everything about this restaurant is fake. Even the Chinese workers dressed in Japanese outfits. They obviously don't give a crap about quality or sanitation. read more
