Sushi cafe is located in the food court at Providence Place Mall. We saw sushi and thought why not try it. We ordered the any 2 rolls for $10.99. For this, I chose the California roll and shrimp tempura roll. There were 8 pieces of the California roll and 6 pieces of the shrimp tempura roll. My husband ordered the Green Dragon and Volcano roll. The prices are a little steep for the quality of the food. The rice was a bit overcooked and mushy. Also, some pieces were falling apart. The flavor was there, but overall not good sushi. The women who took our order and prepared our meals was nice and service was fast. She did wear gloves when preparing the food. I do not think I will be returning here.

The flavor is the best part which is important but the temperature wasn't as cold as I think sushi should be served. The rolls fell apart and weren't tight, they were difficult to eat. The soy sauce was virtually tasteless and was served in a to go container; it tasted like brown water so I'm not sure what was going on with it. The ginger was an off flavor as well. Both rolls and a bottle of Diet Coke cost $25 but this perhaps could have been just a bit better to get up to 4 stars. I was basing the review on what I was expecting for the money, not that I was going to a high end sushi restaurant.

Today's Special: (from top to bottom) salmon+avocado, california, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura
    Valerie C.

idk why I got a sushi craving at the mall lol, but I walked over and saw that "Today's Special" was $10 for 16 pieces of sushi so I just went with my instinct. The special consisted of 4 different rolls: salmon + avocado, california, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. All of them tasted fine- it was cheaper and lowkey tasted the same in comparison to another sushi place I go to in Providence, so overall this was the better deal. The shrimp tempura was my favorite. As expected, I didn't get full with what I ordered (that always happens with me and sushi), but it's one of the better places I've eaten at in the Providence Place Mall food court.

It's Mall food, so you're expectations can't really be that high. But surprisingly, I like the Sushi here. I have tried tempura shrimp rolls in the past which were delicious for a great price and recently had some simple avocado roll. What can I say, the avocado was nice and fresh which is the most I can ask for. Fast service, friendly, relatively low prices and good food. Only complaint is that they should clean the seating area a little more often.

It's seriously one of the better choices you can make for yourself in the food court asides from getting a salad. The prices were fair for fish and the service was fast. This place uses very good grade salmon belly. You can tell by the white ripples/lines in the salmon. The fish was fresh and not dry. The ginger and wasabi were also very fresh. I'd come back.

Lunch special. 16 pcs for $9.99. Prepared with bare hands to boost your immune system.

Hmmmm. Lunch special (16 pcs for $9.99) was good.... but: The employee prepared the makis with her BARE HANDS. No gloves. [...]! Never again.

Best sushi place in Rhode Island by far. Ive tried lots of places none beat this one. Great food, great customer service, everything is just perfect.

Really craving sushi I thought I would take the chance with this mall cart. Contrary to other reviews I found my salmon and rice to be tasty and fresh. A little on the pricier side for a plain roll but it did it's job.

What makes good sushi? Most people would say the freshness of the seafood when in fact it's the rice. In fact most fish that is used in 4star sushi is slightly aged (it's not fresh caught) Some is especially if used as sashimi. So the rice at Sushi Cafe is high grade sushi rice and would have earned another star if it wasn't for the fact that the ratio of rice to protein on the nigiri sushi is completely off. Also the filling in the California roll is unbalanced. A little more crab and less cucumber. It is one of the healthier options in the Providence Place food court so it gets points for that also.

Horrible service for Latin people I go whit my daughter and the woman send my foos in one container I take the order in bad mood because

horrible service for latin people the persona take the order very bad mood and the woman service one container different for all person used one plate and for my little daughter used one container

I'm not sure what possessed me to stop here and eat sushi. Blaaahhhh - where do u begin. Well first off - it's not fresh...I mean mall sushi can't be fresh - and it wasn't. The rice was overcooked, the fish (tuna and salmon) looked on the brownish side, the wosabi wasn't hot at all. Nothing about my dish was appealing. Let's just call this sushi a warm mushy madness. I should have gone with my gut next time and not stop here and eat.

    7.99 lunch. Big rolls!
    Craig W.

Not sure why people hate so hard on this place. Yes, it's mall sushi. So we lower the expectations a bit. But I was pleased with mine. I got the $7.99 lunch deal with two rolls. I got the salmon avocado and shrimp tempura rolls. I'm pleased. And they're big! Not skimpy. Maybe even a lot title too big. Anyway, for a mall food court, I'd certainly return.

Our server even came over with the check because she thought we had already eaten and our table cleared but was shocked to learn our food hadn't even arrived yet. The outdoor seating could also use some updating, with awkwardly placed table legs that didn't lend to a four top and peeling tabletops. But maybe we should have been tipped off by the emptiness of the restaurant compared to every other on a weekend (got last minute reservations). We started with the lobster acting like escargot and the organic chicken nuggets and caviar. The lobster was tasty but those tiny morsels basically amounted to $5 per grape-sized bite (at $30 for the dish). The included biscuits were dry and unappetizing. Take two. Nuggets and caviar. Rare to have caviar on a menu so we decided to try it. We figured the "chicken nuggets" might be euphemistic for something more extravagant. Hmm. Not so much. Literally chicken nuggets reminiscent of Raising Cane's with a dollop of crème fraiche and a tiny teaspoon of caviar (for $40). Did I mention tiny? To the point of barely tasting anything. The food wasn't bad - just ridiculously overpriced for the little you got. Not recommended. Following a little bit of a disappointing app service, we moved on the entrees. We hoped for a turnaround. We had ordered the scallops, tuna, sole and lobster mac and cheese for 4 of us. The sole was nicely fried on a bed of succotash. (Though it wasn't clear to me I was getting a dish that looked like fried catfish). The plate was huge and overall very good. On the flip side, the tuna was tiny and my son was still hungry afterward. Portions seemed rather disproportionate with each dish. My wife complained the scallops were smaller than expected - especially at this price point. And lastly the lobster mac was beautifully presented in a lobster shell but flavor-wise was nothing to write home about. We don't take any left over home. We skipped dessert after the mediocre showing (and paying the fat bill). I had mixed feelings about writing this review. All the food was decent, but IMHO ridiculously overpriced. Indeed, at half the price, I would have been reasonably satisfied. I realize people need to make a living, but I can only say that I left disappointed. We won't be back. Honestly, I wasn't gonna write this review. No one likes having negative feedback. I don't really enjoy giving it and writing all this is work. However, we're currently out of town and had two amazing meals thus far. And the family couldn't help commenting that both meals were together were cheaper than the disappointment at TP Seafood. Even the RI Monthly review seemed to comment on the same. Next time, we will walk right by and head to dinner at Gracie's instead (on the same block). Maybe the location is jinxed? RIP Res - which I actually enjoyed.
