My friend suggested we come here and honestly I was initially a bit skeptical mostly because I don't like raw fish. There was only one [other] time I had a poke bowl that I enjoyed. My first impression was that it was clean in the inside, very spacious with lots of tables, and decorated very nicely. I got really excited when I saw shrimp and chicken on the menu. To not stray too far from the original vision of this dish, I went with the shrimp bowl with brown rice. In a couple minutes it was ready. They have a little water dispenser which is convenient. I loved every bit of it. All the flavors worker really well together, except next time I would ask for less scallions. It was a perfect meal since I wanted something that wouldn't be too taxing on my body since it was later at night. The price was fair, somewhere around $14. There's lots of street parking and it's in a good area. One thing I appreciated too was that we ended up staying a little past close but they were never rude about us overstaying our visit or kicking us out. They just gave subtle hints by cleaning up.

We recently attended a fundraiser and they used the Hometown Poke food truck for their catering. The choices of of Poke bowls were really good, from vegetarian to some full of animal protein. I got the Korean Kick build with some delicious fresh ahi tuna, kimchi, spicy chili sauce, cucumbers, carrots, onions, scallions, garlic crisps, and sesame seed. It tasted delicious and very fresh. A winner for anyone looking for food truck grub in the area.

Such a gem. Perfect place to eat, work, or get some studying done. The place has the perfect balance of not too loud or not too quiet. I will be back. Enjoyed the hometown classic

Hometown Cafe & Poké Bar food truck was at a Brown University event on Sunday, April 21. Their menu consisted of their signature poke bowls. I had their Shrimpin' Ain't Easy (I love that name). The Shrimpin' Ain't Easy bowl had steamed shrimp, jalapeño, and sriracha aioli sauce. It was very yummy and I definitely will be having them again next time I see their food truck. The portions were a good size too.

Salmon was delicious and well-marinated. Portion size was also pretty good. For the downsides, the pineapple still tasted frozen. It was very cold and not fresh at all. The texture inside tasted a bit hard in some spots. The mangoes were not as bad, but those did not taste fresh either. I liked the interior. Great lighting and decoration. Seems like a good place to study or work. Service was excellent. The staff were so friendly!

I love Hometown Poke! I'm so glad it's in my neighborhood because it's a go to for a fast, healthy, and delicious meal. When you arrive, you can pick between a pre formulated bowl in normal or large, or use the order slips to make your own. Generally, I make my own bowl because you can select unlimited toppings, and I like too many of them. It's also nice because in addition to size, you can say if you want all rice, half rice half greens, or all greens for the base of your bowl, so you can really customize to your hunger level. There are non raw options if that is holding anyone back. In general, bowls are made in a matter of minutes for dine in or take out. The dine in experience is really enjoyable because the restaurant is decorated so nicely with plants and good lighting. There's also a nice patio in the back with picnic tables.

My initial review came before I had even moved to Providence (or Rhode Island), but now years into living here I can confidently say this has become a go to spot and only gotten better! Any time I don't want to cook or am looking for a healthy and quick meal I pop over to Hometown. I love that they also are a spot I can pick up local chocolate (Aura's) and the addition of bubble tea is also very exciting!

Toast with red onions, smoked salmon, microgreens, and edible flowers. Some kind of cheese spread underneath. Super good.

Hi, I'm obsessed with this place. A $9 acai bowl?? sure, it's frozen mango, but who cares. It was delicious. I actually ended up ordering one of the toasts as well, and it was UNBELIEVABLE. The back patio is sunny and quiet and perfect for immuno-compromised people (me) who can't eat indoors. The iced tea is also very good. Very lemongrass-y, but it really works. Staff is nice and mellow and pleasant. Will definitely be back for Pokè soon.

Hometown Poke has the freshest poke I've found in Rhode Island. When I think of poke, I think of Hometown. More importantly, they just celebrated their one year at this location! There has been some changes in how they take orders and even the way the ingredients are prepared, but everything has been for the better and I'm excited to see them grow. Those girls work hard and they deserve this awesome place! The shop features some local products like Aura's Chocolate and Whisk Me Away's baked treats. For the poke bowls, I love that the toppings are unlimited (of course avocado is extra, there has to be a limit ;) ). I would give 5 stars, but I would need to try the acai bowls and toasts first. I honestly forget they offer those on the menu and only visit when I want poke.

On my crazy audition adventure yesterday, I had a bit of time to kill in between, and decided to check out Hometown Cafe & Poké Bar after it's been languishing on my bookmarks list pretty much since they've opened! The cafe is neatly tucked in a residential area off of North Main Street in Providence, and even though you might have to work a bit to find this hidden gem, your efforts will be well rewarded with some of the tastiest poké bowl creations ever! When you step inside Hometown Cafe, you're immediately transported into a curated millennial Instagram feed. Everything is done up in calming shades of cream with light pink accents and quirky pineapple details. They even have Hometown Cafe merch, like super cute t-shirts emblazoned with slogans like "Spicy AF" and "Fresh AF". I'll be back for one of those next time! There's ample seating at community picnic style tables with benches or sun soaked two-tops by the large windows overlooking the street outside. They also have a cute patio out back, complete with twinkle lights that's perfect for evening dining. Get there soon before the Rhode Island fall nights become too chilly! Of course, we're here for the food, and compared to some other poké I've tried, this is exceptional. The seafood is amazingly fresh and tender, and I ordered extra salmon because of that! If you want amazing quality fish-wise, Hometown's got you covered. The variety of toppings is equally impressive, and I loved the fresh mango that was on my bowl. If you're not in a creative mood, you can choose from a variety of chef-created options, but I enjoyed making my own from a checklist they provide at the entrance of the cafe. It really added to the fun and whimsy of this awesome restaurant. The only minus (which is easily fixable) was that my "pokerista" (it's a word now, deal with it) was a little heavy handed with the spicy mayo sauce. It kind of drowned out the flavor of the fish (which I wanted to taste since it was wicked fresh!), so be sure to ask for light sauce to avoid this. Even with the minor ding, I will say that this is worthy of the "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" rating because it's clearly the best poké place in Rhode Island. No matter if you visit their brick and mortar shop on Camp Street or the mobile food truck (still gotta get there!), you're definitely in for a treat!

Large Korean Kick bowl. Perfect after heavy weightlifting.

Ask the Community - Hometown Poké & Bubble Tea

Is there a way to get a poke bowl not in plastic?

They use a recycled paper/cardboard bowl on the to go orders. The bowl is sturdy and I have never had any issues with them. They do have a plastic lid, but you don't have to get it. If you eat there they have ceramic dish ware.

The volume of liquid wasn't too low. $4.25 I would give it 3 stars, but I know not everyone is good with money and many are willing to pay these prices on the east side Providence. Super flaky and a lot of delicious flavor from the filling and garnishes. It was very busy when I stopped by midday. They were out of some items already (I missed out on trying the French onion croissant before they replaced it with another menu item). I was sold as soon as I read their menu and saw that they had a Halva latte. This is one of my favorites and I can only get it at cafes near Boston. If you haven't had it, it's a must try. Halva is a sweet confection that is sesame based. Brown Bee definitely delivered on this one. I hope it stays on the menu! My wife had a pistachio latte that is made with homemade pistachio syrup. It was 10/10. We didn't plan on eating, but we did end up getting one of their cinnamon rolls with a homemade cream cheese frosting. It was fantastic! They have plenty of seating and although we waited inline, there were several seats available and we got to enjoy our drinks and cinnamon roll. This place is worth the wait in line. We will be going back again this weekend. I want to try the everything croissant with cream cheese baked inside! We may also try one of their breakfast sandwiches. My only recommendation is that they add little chalk boards for each of the croissants with what they are as they had to keep telling everyone what each one was. Still a 10/10.

The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items.

It feels like her place in the best way -- warm, proud, hands-on. Pastries are legit. Super buttery, flaky enough to make a mess, clearly baked that morning. No sad, sitting-around-all-day vibes. Ordered the breakfast sandwich and that tomato jam needs to be illegal. Sweet, savory, slightly tangy -- it completely makes the sandwich. I kept trying to figure out how to recreate it at home. Not happening. Crispy chicken sandwich was properly seasoned and not dried out (why is that so hard for some places?). Fries were solid too -- crispy, not limp. And the kale salad with roasted chickpeas and chicken made me feel like I had my life together. Fresh, simple, and actually satisfying. It's one of those places you stumble into while traveling and then immediately start googling whether you can justify going back the next day.
