I've only been once so far but I was very impressed by the quality of the pastries. I tried a cafe latte croissant and really enjoyed it! Super flaky and a lot of delicious flavor from the filling and garnishes. It was very busy when I stopped by midday. They were out of some items already (I missed out on trying the French onion croissant before they replaced it with another menu item). I did find a spot to sit outside but I can see it being even harder to find a seat during peak times. It's a bit off the beaten path yet it's known and popular for a reason. It was a Wednesday afternoon, and I was craving a good latte. I had seen this place on social media and added it to my list of cafes to visit. There is a parking lot in the back, but I was not sure if it was for the café or apartments downstairs, so I just found street parking nearby. The inside gave me Spaniard vibes because of the cream, smooth walls and dark wooden accents. The following were the two things that instantly caught my attention when I walked in: They have merchandise on display for sale and it seems like high quality material and they had a vehicle made of croissants on display, maybe about 1.5 ft x 1 ft x 6 inches. They have their pastries on display which helps visualize what you're getting before buying it. They are unique and big in size. Their drink menu is good and includes a mix of teas (including matcha) and coffee. I went with the bee latte which was supposed to have honey, cardamom, and cayenne. I was interested in seeing how sweet, herbal/minty, and spicy would taste together. I was also [easily] self-convinced into getting a Za'atar croissant. After our order came out, we walked outside and sat at their patio area which has about 5-6 tables enough for two people each. The latte was good. I appreciated how it was not sweet, but I did think the cardamom was too subtle. It seemed like the cayenne was powder just sprinkled on top and I might've inhaled half of it on my first sip, so I was dying a bit. The Za'atar croissant was given to us in a brown paper box with the outside of their building drawn onto it. Since we asked for it toasted, it was warm and extra crispy/flaky on top. It was flat (about 1 inch thick) and about 6 inches in diameter, so big enough to share if you're just interested in a light snack. The inside of every swirl was packed with olive oil, middle eastern herbs, and lots of sesame seeds. Although it may take away from the traditional flavors and way of eating it, I wish it came with something to dip it into like whipped cream cheese or smashed olives. Nonetheless, it was delicious. On weekends, they have a laptop free policy which I think it good to allow for more people to enjoy, rather than people taking up tables for a while to do work. read more

I heard about this place through a friend and I still can't believe they have been open since 2024 and I've never heard of them! I was sold as soon as I read their menu and saw that they had a Halva latte. This is one of my favorites and I can only get it at cafes near Boston. If you haven't had it, it's a must try. Halva is a sweet confection that is sesame based. Brown Bee definitely delivered on this one. I hope it stays on the menu! My wife had a pistachio latte that is made with homemade pistachio syrup. It was 10/10. We didn't plan on eating, but we did end up getting one of their cinnamon rolls with a homemade cream cheese frosting. It was fantastic! They have plenty of seating and although we waited inline, there were several seats available and we got to enjoy our drinks and cinnamon roll. This place is worth the wait in line. We will be going back again this weekend. I want to try the everything croissant with cream cheese baked inside! We may also try one of their breakfast sandwiches. My only recommendation is that they add little chalk boards for each of the croissants with what they are as they had to keep telling everyone what each one was. Still a 10/10. read more

My first coffee shop experience in PVD! Brown Bee has a super cute ambiance and fast and friendly service. I got an iced White Chocolate Cherry Matcha, but tasted neither white chocolate nor cherry so that was a bit disappointing. The matcha itself was pretty strong though, which was nice. Their pastries looked so good, but I didn't have the stomach space to try haha. It's laptop-free on weekends. 7/10 would recommend for now, I'll definitely give them another try. read more

What a cute coffee shop! It reminds me of the coffee shops we discovered in Paris. My husband and I shared a cafe latte croissant, which was very light and filled with a light cream. Wow by far the best and most beautiful croissants you can get in Rhode Island! The pastry display is the first thing you see when you walk in and it is STUNNING! It will make choosing your pastry treat of the day very challenging. I have had the everything bagel croissant and the pistachio croissant, both were amazing. Their london fog tea was excellent, as was the matcha latte. The only thing Ive had that I didn't love was the halva latte, but I am excited to continue trying new things! I came here twice to try to get some work done and it does have a decent number of tables and access to outlets, however they are SO popular that it can be tricky to find a spot to sit. They also ask that you not stay more than about 90 minutes to allow for turnover for more guests. Also they have a no laptop policy on the weekends. read more

Brown Bee is by far the best coffee shop you're going to find in RI. While the selection may not be extensive, every drink is a total hit, but the real star of the show is their pastry case. The croissants put La Salle to shame, and the seasonal selections never fail to grab my attention. Most recently, I went with my best friend to get their S'mores Cinnamon Roll, and all I can say is that I'll be back soon! The hot one is recommended for chocolate lovers, but the control roll (non-hot) is perfect for marshmallow lovers. If you can only stop at one place for breakfast, it should be here. read more

I also love that they add a little design touch to the drinks. I also tried their croissants, and they are delicious. From the ones with fillings to the plain ones, they are soft, flaky, and the perfect size. I feel like the prices are reasonable for what they serve. Location: They are located in a college area, so they tend to be very busy. I usually go in, grab my order, and go. I have never really sat down to eat there because there is usually no space. It is a very popular coffee shop, but I am not surprised. The interior is modern and cozy, and they do have a good amount of tables. It is just always busy. They do not have private parking, so you have to find street parking, but it is usually not an issue unless there is a big event going on nearby. Most of the time, it is pretty easy to find street parking. It is a very casual coffee shop and perfect for grabbing coffee with a friend or two or going on a coffee date. Service: The service has always been friendly, attentive, and quick for the most part. Considering the number of people that come in, they do not take as long as you would expect. I went to Brown Bee for the first time and it was really tasty. I liked that you could get fun coffee drinks that weren't overly sweet too. I had a filled croissant that was delicious and light. My friend has a latte. We went around 11 and the line wasn't too bad, but a lot of things were sold out already. We were able to get a table pretty easily too. I really loved the croissants! They were incredibly friendly and offered us suggestions when I asked what to try. I ended up leaving with 4 croissants and a coffee roll for just 2 people (oops!) my only complained were they don't offer decaf coffee. As someone with a heart condition it wasn't super inclusive. Also the didn't have napkins out and available. You had to ask which I thought was odd. The inside was very busy and compact, but we were able to grab a table as they have courteous 90min max on all tables. So freaking good! I stopped in later in the day so unfortunately all of their pastries were sold out. I'll definitely have to try them next time. The interior is incredibly well done and feels like such a cozy and inviting space. I don't always love matcha, but knew that is what they are known. I can't compliment that baked items enough. There was a group of us, so we got to try a bunch of stuff, and the pistachio crunch croissant was AMAZING. I would say the same about the Zaatar olive oil croissant was SO yummy. The egg and cheese sandwich was also so good. I have to admit though, it said it was an egg and cheese sandwich croissant, it wasn't clear to me that it was made on an actual croissant (because of the word sandwich). Brown Bee Coffee shop is really an unique gem in the College Hill neighborhood in Providence. The food, particularly the croissants reminded me of my trips to Paris. The croissant is flaky, buttery, crispy and such a delicious treat. The Brown Bee Coffee website describes how Pastry Chef - Alisia Custodio "honed her skills in the heart of French pastry making, interning at ENSP in the South of France." It is clear that she along with all of the employees at this cafe have attention to detail and value their contribution to the success of the business. I ordered the Egg and Cheese sandwich that has the house made round croissant, soft scrambled egg, amercian cheese, chives (+3 add beef bacon). This was absolutely phenomenal. I don't remember having beef bacon and it was soo good. I mean, pork bacon is better in my opinion, but the beef bacon isn't far behind. It tastes more like pastrami in flavor and texture. I also ordered the Iced Spanish latte which had condensed milk, smoked chocolate sea salt. This drink is legit!! It's one of the best, if not the best coffee drinks I've had in Rhode Island. The predominant flavor is chocolate, but tastes mildly savory because of the salt and perfect amount of sweetness. You would think that the condensed milk would over power the drink, but it doesn't, it's very well balanced! This shop is spacious with many seats for two or more people, its very clean and they have merchandise on sale as well! The staff are highly professional and efficient. They greeted us with so much warmth, they were knowledgeable and very efficient. This is a well run business with top notch products. This spot has been very trendy on all social media lately~ they seem to specialize in matcha and I'm a fan~ they CAN make a good match and the mango or lavenders flavors are sweet but not overwhelming. The pastries are interesting and picture worthy. Large and very flake but didn't taste too fresh for a 8am cafe stop. The fillings are good. I'm more interested in the drink menu because they do serve a good coffee or matcha drink. Place was clean, new, and has a water station for free and options for milk and sugar to mix in~ there is one bathroom, which has a great mirror and was clean but the door doesn't lock. I was so nervous and went as fast as I could to prevent a fellow cafe goer from walking in. This place did offer seating, but it probably gets busy quick. Your hands might be a bit on the greasy side at the end, but it was well worth it. I ate every last bit. - I also ordered the iced pistachio latte with oat milk and it was so good! They put bits of real pistachios in there too. It's not too sweet and has a nice rounded taste. - My husband ordered the iced Spanish latte and that was a wow to me. This is a cute coffee shop on a historic street. We visited on a Friday afternoon. We had to wait to order and wait to get our drinks but there were quite a few people there for a small place. A clean, public restroom was available. There was seating inside and outside. The staff were mid-friendly. It's perfectly located near the pedestrian bridge, making it the perfect stop before or after a nice walk on the water. The pastries and croissants were beautifully crafted and equally delicious. I personally loved the pistachio crunch croissant; they did not skimp out on the creamy filling. Coffee was OK- cold brew can be a hit or a miss at most places, and this one was pretty watery. I have seen mixed reviews on service, but from my experience, the staff were kind and courteous, and drinks were served fairly quickly. Saw this place on IG and had to take the wife for a breakfast coffee date. Did...not...disappoint!! She got a hot one and me.. iced. All was great, I will say this, I know it's a French thing, but those of us allergic to tree nuts would LOVE a stuff croissant too. So all the ones with Pistachio, Hazlenut, & Almonds are off limits. That is always a disappointment for me. Super cute inside and the bench seats were so comfortable. However, I visited the shop with the hopes of preparing some work on my laptop, when I was approached by an employee who respectfully let me know they do not allow laptops AT ALL on weekends for "dining only services." I completely understand this policy, but this cafe does not offer dining services such as being waited on, clearing off tables, etc. I waited in line, approached the counter to pick up my coffee, and took a seat at a dirty table that I cleaned myself. Oh man, I wish I had a Brown Bee near me! We came by on a weekday before strolling along the river and these pastries were absolutely delectable. We decided to get a couple of the seasonal options (the pumpkin spice croissant and maple pecan cinnamon roll) as well as the banana croissant and split it. The croissants were so buttery and flaky, I loved the pumpkin spice one in particular, it was filled with this cream that tasted exactly like a pumpkin pie. Definitely giving strong Thanksgiving vibes and it looked beautiful! The cinnamon roll was good but if you know me, you know I don't like a cold cinnamon roll and this one wasn't even warmed up a little bit! Such a bummer. It had a great flavor though. Bread pudding was amazing: my favorite hands down. The bacon egg and cheese croissant was also very good; the croissant was soft and chewy and the eggs were perfectly fluffy. I thought the French onion croissant was a fun concept and good, but it wasn't as soft. Same with the strawberry chocolate croissant; in addition, when my friends and I split it four ways we didn't realize there was chocolate filling on one side and strawberry on another, so we didn't get the full strawberry chocolate experience. Beautiful interior. Cashier was very friendly. Visited for the first time recently, and I have to say the quality of product is great! A very pretty little spot, with the baked goods perfectly displayed front and center upon entry. I do though wish the product was labeled in the case vs just a list taped to the top of the case. My service was friendly, though I have a feeling one of the croissants I wanted was being made, but instead I was told it wasn't available. When I was there (around noon on a weekday) they had pistachio, cafe latte, z'atar, everything cream cheese, chocolate, plain and strawberry chocolate croissants on display. I ordered the blackberry mocha latte, and it was literally perfect - no notes. Perfectly sweet with amazing flavor. Staff was friendly, but it was really loud; the music made it hard to concentrate. I ordered an iced london fog and it was really watery, from the first sip (i.e not from the ice melting). It was like milk mixed with oversteeped black tea. London fog is supposed to be made with earl grey, which has notes of bergamot and citrus. This had none of that. Admittedly, a lot of "earl grey" out there is pretty awful, but you'd expect such a fancy coffeeshop to have earl grey that tastes like it. Idk maybe their coffee is great, but that was some of the worst tea I've ever had. Also, the only way it tasted like tea was the hints of bitter oversteeped-ness. It was a VERY pale drink. read more

There's been a buzz around Brown Bee Coffee that opened on Saturday, September 14th. Brown Bee Coffee is a café that sells precision-poured coffee and handmade in-house croissants. On Saturday, Brown Bee Coffee opens at 8:00am and I arrived at 8:05am. As I approached Benefit Street, there was a line out the door. The menu is posted on the window so I took a picture of it and decided what items I wanted while waiting in queue. Some of the marble-topped café tables inside were taken already by people or by items saving the seats. Inside the color palette is a medley of dark browns (woodwork), tans, beige, and cream. This color palette is seen on the packaging as well. When it was my turn, I took a look at the items on display and since there were no labels on the baked goods, I asked the staff member which items were what. He was friendly in explaining and patient. I ordered a chocolate banana almond croissant ($8.41), pistachio crunch croissant ($8.41), matcha cookie ($2.84), and a matcha latte ($5.61). I had wanted some other items like a butter croissant, but they were not made yet. I received a box with the two croissants and a parchment bag for the matcha cookie. WOW. When I got home, I cut the pistachio crunch croissant in half and the pistachio cream was oozing out. It had a really good pistachio taste and not overpowering. I also really enjoyed the matcha cookie and you can really taste the matcha. My husband had the chocolate banana almond croissant and it had house-made banana almond and dark chocolate baton filling. It was also circular compared to the standard shape. Both croissants were flaky with many layers. The matcha latte was also very good.
