I'm driving back to our B&B late afternoon and I see people gathered outside Brown Bee Coffee. Are they online? Is there a wait for coffee? Inquiring minds want to know and I want to see what's buzzin' so I found a parking across the street and headed towards the Brown Bee. The second I walked in, I knew I found a hidden gem in Providence. The baked goods look like a true professional baked them. Ever grab a tray of croissants from Costco? I'm sure those bakers question their life. These baked goods look like the bakers put time and true methods to achieve the level of a quality baked goods. Take for instance their pain au chocolat. Simple, yet elegant with a classic golden hue. Brown Bee, I commend you on your mad skills. My wife and I stopped in for coffee. I see a great line up of coffee choices: Halva Latte, Pistachio Latte and a Bee Latte made with cayenne. That sounds a little too on the wild side so I ordered two Spanish lattes. Made with condensed milk, smoked chocolate and a sprinkle of sea salt, this is perfect for a cloudy afternoon. I also order a cookie to split between us, a Brookie. The lattes were perfection. The sweetness from the condensed milk and the smoked chocolate gave the drink a nice balanced flavor. The Brookie? Fudgy, chewy and the right amount of chocolate made this an afternoon delight. Such a cute and perfect coffee shop on the East side of Providence. The croissants are to die for and flaky beyond belief. We tried the Banana Chocolate and the Hot Dog. Yes, hot dog. It was a deliciously crisp hot dog in the most flaky croissant-style bun. Our drinks were a fresh-brewed iced tea and the seasonal Pumpkin Tiramisu Latte. We sat outside on their little patio and enjoyed the ambience.
I was really sad this morning when I woke up and was no longer visiting Providence RI because I couldn't have Brown Bee Coffee. :( It was so GOOD. The Spanish latte was a standout. Also, the peach cinnamon roll as big as my head was an incredible on the road snack for our day tripping around the area.
I've only been once so far but I was very impressed by the quality of the pastries. I tried a cafe latte croissant and really enjoyed it! Super flaky and a lot of delicious flavor from the filling and garnishes. It was very busy when I stopped by midday. They were out of some items already (I missed out on trying the French onion croissant before they replaced it with another menu item). I did find a spot to sit outside but I can see it being even harder to find a seat during peak times. It's a bit off the beaten path yet it's known and popular for a reason. I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying more items and of course the coffee!
My first coffee shop experience in PVD! Brown Bee has a super cute ambiance and fast and friendly service. I got an iced White Chocolate Cherry Matcha, but tasted neither white chocolate nor cherry so that was a bit disappointing. The matcha itself was pretty strong though, which was nice. Their pastries looked so good, but I didn't have the stomach space to try haha. It's laptop-free on weekends. 7/10 would recommend for now, I'll definitely give them another try.
It was a Wednesday afternoon, and I was craving a good latte. I had seen this place on social media and added it to my list of cafes to visit. There is a parking lot in the back, but I was not sure if it was for the café or apartments downstairs, so I just found street parking nearby. The inside gave me Spaniard vibes because of the cream, smooth walls and dark wooden accents. The following were the two things that instantly caught my attention when I walked in: They have merchandise on display for sale and it seems like high quality material and they had a vehicle made of croissants on display, maybe about 1.5 ft x 1 ft x 6 inches. They have their pastries on display which helps visualize what you're getting before buying it. They are unique and big in size. Their drink menu is good and includes a mix of teas (including matcha) and coffee. I went with the bee latte which was supposed to have honey, cardamom, and cayenne. I was interested in seeing how sweet, herbal/minty, and spicy would taste together. I was also [easily] self-convinced into getting a Za'atar croissant. After our order came out, we walked outside and sat at their patio area which has about 5-6 tables enough for two people each. The latte was good. I appreciated how it was not sweet, but I did think the cardamom was too subtle. It seemed like the cayenne was powder just sprinkled on top and I might've inhaled half of it on my first sip, so I was dying a bit. The Za'atar croissant was given to us in a brown paper box with the outside of their building drawn onto it. Since we asked for it toasted, it was warm and extra crispy/flaky on top. It was flat (about 1 inch thick) and about 6 inches in diameter, so big enough to share if you're just interested in a light snack. The inside of every swirl was packed with olive oil, middle eastern herbs, and lots of sesame seeds. Although it may take away from the traditional flavors and way of eating it, I wish it came with something to dip it into like whipped cream cheese or smashed olives. Nonetheless, it was delicious. On weekends, they have a laptop free policy which I think it good to allow for more people to enjoy, rather than people taking up tables for a while to do work.
What a cute coffee shop! It reminds me of the coffee shops we discovered in Paris. My husband and I shared a cafe latte croissant, which was very light and filled with a light cream. We would definitely get it again. For a beverage I had an 8 ounce Americano, which is really good and complimented the croissant nicely. I love that they serve it in actual ceramic mugs as opposed to paper cups. We also bought two packages of coffee beans so we can brew them at home.
Wow by far the best and most beautiful croissants you can get in Rhode Island! The pastry display is the first thing you see when you walk in and it is STUNNING! It will make choosing your pastry treat of the day very challenging. I have had the everything bagel croissant and the pistachio croissant, both were amazing. Their london fog tea was excellent, as was the matcha latte. The only thing Ive had that I didn't love was the halva latte, but I am excited to continue trying new things! I came here twice to try to get some work done and it does have a decent number of tables and access to outlets, however they are SO popular that it can be tricky to find a spot to sit. They also ask that you not stay more than about 90 minutes to allow for turnover for more guests. Also they have a no laptop policy on the weekends.
Food/Drinks: This place is definitely a must try. I'm usually an iced coffee type of girl, but their hot lattes are actually very, very good. I also love that they add a little design touch to the drinks. I also tried their croissants, and they are delicious. From the ones with fillings to the plain ones, they are soft, flaky, and the perfect size. I feel like the prices are reasonable for what they serve. Location: They are located in a college area, so they tend to be very busy. I usually go in, grab my order, and go. I have never really sat down to eat there because there is usually no space. It is a very popular coffee shop, but I am not surprised. The interior is modern and cozy, and they do have a good amount of tables. It is just always busy. They do not have private parking, so you have to find street parking, but it is usually not an issue unless there is a big event going on nearby. Most of the time, it is pretty easy to find street parking. It is a very casual coffee shop and perfect for grabbing coffee with a friend or two or going on a coffee date. Service: The service has always been friendly, attentive, and quick for the most part. Considering the number of people that come in, they do not take as long as you would expect. Definitely a place I will be going back to whenever I get the chance!
I went to Brown Bee for the first time and it was really tasty. I liked that you could get fun coffee drinks that weren't overly sweet too. I had a filled croissant that was delicious and light. My friend has a latte. We went around 11 and the line wasn't too bad, but a lot of things were sold out already. We were able to get a table pretty easily too. It is pretty expensive and not somewhere I'd go too often based on the price but definitely fun to check out.
So freaking good! I stopped in later in the day so unfortunately all of their pastries were sold out. I'll definitely have to try them next time. The interior is incredibly well done and feels like such a cozy and inviting space. I don't always love matcha, but knew that is what they are known. Parking is what you'd expect for the area and I did have to loop around twice to snag a spot. Can't wait to try other matcha flavors!
Loved everything about this cafe! The pumpkin croissant was spectacular! But the chocolate chocolate sea salt cookie was the best cookie I've ever eaten! I didn't expect the pumpkin puree within it. Flaky and flavorful. The pumpkin spice latte was pure Heaven. Flavorful and rich, it tasted like Autumn in a cup. Can't wait to return here.
I can't compliment that baked items enough. There was a group of us, so we got to try a bunch of stuff, and the pistachio crunch croissant was AMAZING. I would say the same about the Zaatar olive oil croissant was SO yummy. The egg and cheese sandwich was also so good. I have to admit though, it said it was an egg and cheese sandwich croissant, it wasn't clear to me that it was made on an actual croissant (because of the word sandwich). On the other hand, I ordered matcha, and it was mediocre/average. The coffee americano was decent though. Shout out to that staff for being accommodating and friendly.
Brown Bee Coffee is a must visit for incredible coffee and croissants. I ordered an incredible chocolate croissant and latte. The croissant was buttery perfection and the right amount of airy. The latte I ordered with oat milk was brewed expertly. It's a cute cafe close to Brown University (hence the name). The barista I ordered from was sweet. There is a good amount of seating inside and some outside. I got my order to go, but it looked cozy enough to read in. I'd recommend coming here. read more
When I arrived there was a line out the door on Sunday, but it moved quickly. Once we ordered, we found a comfortable table and chairs, though they were close to the other tables, so we got to eaves drop on the couples on either side of us. My husband I made it in the door witching a few minutes. I ordered drinks and a seasonal peach cinnamon bun and a pistachio crunch croissant to go. The bun came out first, warmed and massive the bun was cooked all the way through. My husband and I split a peach cinnamon bun and it was delicious. Drinks took a little longer, though were very well made. We had asked the pistachio crunch croissant to be boxed, and enjoyed it later. It was delicious, though the white chocolate frosting on top didn't add much. With the variety of seasonal and regular offerings, there's lots of treats to try here! read more
I ordered the pistachio latte. I recommend asking for extra vanilla if you like your drinks sweeter! For food I got the everything croissant stuffed with scallion cream cheese. This was one of the flakiest croissants I've ever had and I wouldn't change a thing. Delicious! Went on a weekend morning so there was a line but it moved very quickly. It's a cute little place. The food looks amazing. I got a chocolate croissant and a croissant bread pudding. I also got a mocha latte. The chocolate croissant was delicious. It was flaky and soft and so big! My latte was very good and not overly sweet. If I was in the area I would definitely come back. The bread pudding is for later. Not sure how it tastes. read more
This spot has been very trendy on all social media lately~ they seem to specialize in matcha and I'm a fan~ they CAN make a good match and the mango or lavenders flavors are sweet but not overwhelming. The pastries are interesting and picture worthy. Large and very flake but didn't taste too fresh for a 8am cafe stop. The fillings are good. I'm more interested in the drink menu because they do serve a good coffee or matcha drink. Place was clean, new, and has a water station for free and options for milk and sugar to mix in~ there is one bathroom, which has a great mirror and was clean but the door doesn't lock. I was so nervous and went as fast as I could to prevent a fellow cafe goer from walking in. This place did offer seating, but it probably gets busy quick. There's street parking and a small parking space behind with a total of 6 spots. Interesting and trendy cafe and very out of the way for me. Glad I tried it! read more
Brown Bee Coffee shop is really an unique gem in the College Hill neighborhood in Providence. The food, particularly the croissants reminded me of my trips to Paris. The croissant is flaky, buttery, crispy and such a delicious treat. The Brown Bee Coffee website describes how Pastry Chef - Alisia Custodio "honed her skills in the heart of French pastry making, interning at ENSP in the South of France." It is clear that she along with all of the employees at this cafe have attention to detail and value their contribution to the success of the business. I ordered the Egg and Cheese sandwich that has the house made round croissant, soft scrambled egg, amercian cheese, chives (+3 add beef bacon). This was absolutely phenomenal. I don't remember having beef bacon and it was soo good. I mean, pork bacon is better in my opinion, but the beef bacon isn't far behind. It tastes more like pastrami in flavor and texture. I also ordered the Iced Spanish latte which had condensed milk, smoked chocolate sea salt. This drink is legit!! It's one of the best, if not the best coffee drinks I've had in Rhode Island. The predominant flavor is chocolate, but tastes mildly savory because of the salt and perfect amount of sweetness. You would think that the condensed milk would over power the drink, but it doesn't, it's very well balanced! This shop is spacious with many seats for two or more people, its very clean and they have merchandise on sale as well! The staff are highly professional and efficient. They greeted us with so much warmth, they were knowledgeable and very efficient. This is a well run business with top notch products. This is now one of my newest fav coffee spot! Food: - We ordered the egg and cheese sandwich on a croissant and it was sooooo flakey and delicious. Your hands might be a bit on the greasy side at the end, but it was well worth it. I ate every last bit. - I also ordered the iced pistachio latte with oat milk and it was so good! They put bits of real pistachios in there too. It's not too sweet and has a nice rounded taste. - My husband ordered the iced Spanish latte and that was a wow to me. A bit sweeter than the pistachio latte but not overly sweet. They made it with a good ratio of ingredients. Service: The staff were so friendly. They loved that we brought our own cups (gotta be sustainable!). We got our orders pretty quickly too. Ambiance: It's a cool spot! Looks like some retail happening in the seating area but overall there's a lot of space for seating inside and some on the patio outside too. The vibe is really chill. We sat outside and made some sparrow friends as they enjoyed our croissant crumbs too haha Definitely going back! read more

My friend showed me this cute coffee shop! They have a ton of delicious croissants and pastries. I got the French onion soup croissant and my friend got the chocolate strawberry croissant and both were delicious! I would love to try more of the pastries since there is such a large selection. The service was quick and efficient considering the line was out the door. There were a couple of indoor tables and seats for people to sit but a lot of people seem to do take out with their coffee and pastry! read more

I really loved the croissants! They were incredibly friendly and offered us suggestions when I asked what to try. I ended up leaving with 4 croissants and a coffee roll for just 2 people (oops!) my only complained were they don't offer decaf coffee. As someone with a heart condition it wasn't super inclusive. Also the didn't have napkins out and available. You had to ask which I thought was odd. The inside was very busy and compact, but we were able to grab a table as they have courteous 90min max on all tables. I loved the decor of the bathroom and the simplicity of the main room. read more

Brown Bee is such a cute, well decorated cafe with ample seating inside (and some outdoors). It's perfectly located near the pedestrian bridge, making it the perfect stop before or after a nice walk on the water. The pastries and croissants were beautifully crafted and equally delicious. I personally loved the pistachio crunch croissant; they did not skimp out on the creamy filling. Coffee was OK- cold brew can be a hit or a miss at most places, and this one was pretty watery. I have seen mixed reviews on service, but from my experience, the staff were kind and courteous, and drinks were served fairly quickly. Overall, I would definitely recommend Brown Bee for its croissants, atmosphere, and location. read more
An absolutely adorable providence cafe serving up high quality matcha. If i'm not mistaken, this cafe is Palestinian owned which makes me want to support them even more! The person working was so sweet and helped me decide on vanilla mango matcha that was absolutely delicious. I loved that it wasn't overly sweet and you could taste each flavor. Wonderful! read more

This place was INCREDIBLE! first time checking it out in the area and the staff member was so friendly and helpful. Because we arrived close to when they were closing they even gave us extra treats which was so kind of them the coffee and pastries we tried were so so yummy. There was plenty of seating, people chatting, taking pictures, studying etc. very diverse crowd, welcome and friendly environment and I can't wait to come back because everything about this place is a 10/10!!! read more

Brown Bee is always amazing! The croissants are so decadent with flavors unlike anything you'll get at other coffee/bakery locations in croissants. So glad they started doing breakfast sandwiches too! The cafe itself is super cute inside and well themed! It's clear they thought about every detail of the space. Service can be hit or miss, which is why I've deducted a star. We waited almost 45 minutes for the breakfast sandwich to be ready after getting there right when they opened. We've had other experiences that a coffee takes 25 minutes. If you're okay with a wait, it's worth a visit! read more
Saw this place on IG and had to take the wife for a breakfast coffee date. Did...not...disappoint!! I ordered the chocolate croissant and a bacon, egg, & cheese sandwich, which BTW comes on a croissant!!! It was buttery & delicious. My wofe ordered the same, and we each got a latte. She got a hot one and me.. iced. All was great, I will say this, I know it's a French thing, but those of us allergic to tree nuts would LOVE a stuff croissant too. So all the ones with Pistachio, Hazlenut, & Almonds are off limits. That is always a disappointment for me. Super cute inside and the bench seats were so comfortable. I will say get there early, it gets crazy busy with line out the door. Staff was super friendly! My wife even said this should be our Saturday morning routine! read more

Oh man, I wish I had a Brown Bee near me! We came by on a weekday before strolling along the river and these pastries were absolutely delectable. We decided to get a couple of the seasonal options (the pumpkin spice croissant and maple pecan cinnamon roll) as well as the banana croissant and split it. The croissants were so buttery and flaky, I loved the pumpkin spice one in particular, it was filled with this cream that tasted exactly like a pumpkin pie. Definitely giving strong Thanksgiving vibes and it looked beautiful! The cinnamon roll was good but if you know me, you know I don't like a cold cinnamon roll and this one wasn't even warmed up a little bit! Such a bummer. It had a great flavor though. Bread pudding was amazing: my favorite hands down. The bacon egg and cheese croissant was also very good; the croissant was soft and chewy and the eggs were perfectly fluffy. I thought the French onion croissant was a fun concept and good, but it wasn't as soft. Same with the strawberry chocolate croissant; in addition, when my friends and I split it four ways we didn't realize there was chocolate filling on one side and strawberry on another, so we didn't get the full strawberry chocolate experience. Beautiful interior. Cashier was very friendly. Busy with a line out the door when we got there at 10:30 AM on a Saturday, and we just managed to snag a section of the large table for the four of us, but it got less busy when we left. read more
Visited for the first time recently, and I have to say the quality of product is great! A very pretty little spot, with the baked goods perfectly displayed front and center upon entry. I do though wish the product was labeled in the case vs just a list taped to the top of the case. My service was friendly, though I have a feeling one of the croissants I wanted was being made, but instead I was told it wasn't available. Totally fine, I was able to pivot, and as I said, all the croissants were delicious! Light and fluffy with perfect lamination. I do have to mention that I also had one of the most delicious lattes ever! Overall, job well done. read more

Came to this location several times. The teas are really delicious and the staff is really friendly. I ordered the Chocolate Banana Croissant and it was amazing. Both crunchy, creamy filled with banana cream. It was very filling. The sitting area is very causal and looks like a cool place for students or who ever wants to bring a laptop too. Love to come back and try more of their specialty pastries. read more

My mind has expanded. This blueberry lemon latte was so awesome (very sweet!) and definitely worth the (very long) wait!! The blueberry lemon roll was also SUPERB. Everyone was so kind and their options are just incredible. High quality food/bev and cute inside. I'm a fan. buzzzzzzz read more
Croissants are a genuine weakness of mine! And it can be hard to find the perfect flaky and delicious one. Brown Bee has HUGE, intriguingly flavored croissants. When I was there (around noon on a weekday) they had pistachio, cafe latte, z'atar, everything cream cheese, chocolate, plain and strawberry chocolate croissants on display. Every one looked delightful! I went with the cafe latte and the everything cream cheese. As mentioned they were giant and both were generously stuffed with filling. The everything one was the perfect savory and salty mix with lots of scallion cream cheese. The cafe latte was stuffed with a light latte flavored cream. I want to go back to try other other flavors, particularly the chocolate strawberry. This could definitely be a new habit! read more

There's been a buzz around Brown Bee Coffee that opened on Saturday, September 14th. Brown Bee Coffee is a café that sells precision-poured coffee and handmade in-house croissants. On Saturday, Brown Bee Coffee opens at 8:00am and I arrived at 8:05am. As I approached Benefit Street, there was a line out the door. The menu is posted on the window so I took a picture of it and decided what items I wanted while waiting in queue. Some of the marble-topped café tables inside were taken already by people or by items saving the seats. Inside the color palette is a medley of dark browns (woodwork), tans, beige, and cream. This color palette is seen on the packaging as well. When it was my turn, I took a look at the items on display and since there were no labels on the baked goods, I asked the staff member which items were what. He was friendly in explaining and patient. I ordered a chocolate banana almond croissant ($8.41), pistachio crunch croissant ($8.41), matcha cookie ($2.84), and a matcha latte ($5.61). I had wanted some other items like a butter croissant, but they were not made yet. I received a box with the two croissants and a parchment bag for the matcha cookie. WOW. When I got home, I cut the pistachio crunch croissant in half and the pistachio cream was oozing out. It had a really good pistachio taste and not overpowering. I also really enjoyed the matcha cookie and you can really taste the matcha. My husband had the chocolate banana almond croissant and it had house-made banana almond and dark chocolate baton filling. It was also circular compared to the standard shape. Both croissants were flaky with many layers. The matcha latte was also very good. I can see why people were waiting in line so early and it was definitely worth it. I just wished they all the baked goods ready by the time they opened. read more

Me and my fiancé came here for the first time and it did not disappoint! I had the pistachio croissant paired with a vanilla matcha, and my fiancé got a Spanish latte with a chocolate croissant. Everything was amazing--the croissant was so yummy and perfectly fluffy on the inside. We'll definitely be coming back! read more
