Such a cute and perfect coffee shop on the East side of Providence. The croissants are to die for and flaky beyond belief. We tried the Banana Chocolate and the Hot Dog. Yes, hot dog. It was a deliciously crisp hot dog in the most flaky croissant-style bun. Our drinks were a fresh-brewed iced tea and the seasonal Pumpkin Tiramisu Latte. We sat outside on their little patio and enjoyed the ambience.
I'm driving back to our B&B late afternoon and I see people gathered outside Brown Bee Coffee. Are they online? Is there a wait for coffee? Inquiring minds want to know and I want to see what's buzzin' so I found a parking across the street and headed towards the Brown Bee. The second I walked in, I knew I found a hidden gem in Providence. The baked goods look like a true professional baked them. Ever grab a tray of croissants from Costco? I'm sure those bakers question their life. These baked goods look like the bakers put time and true methods to achieve the level of a quality baked goods. Take for instance their pain au chocolat. Simple, yet elegant with a classic golden hue. Brown Bee, I commend you on your mad skills. My wife and I stopped in for coffee. I see a great line up of coffee choices: Halva Latte, Pistachio Latte and a Bee Latte made with cayenne. That sounds a little too on the wild side so I ordered two Spanish lattes. Made with condensed milk, smoked chocolate and a sprinkle of sea salt, this is perfect for a cloudy afternoon. I also order a cookie to split between us, a Brookie. The lattes were perfection. The sweetness from the condensed milk and the smoked chocolate gave the drink a nice balanced flavor. The Brookie? Fudgy, chewy and the right amount of chocolate made this an afternoon delight. Just passing thru, thanks Brown Bee Coffee for a great Providence experience!
I was really sad this morning when I woke up and was no longer visiting Providence RI because I couldn't have Brown Bee Coffee. :( It was so GOOD. The Spanish latte was a standout. Also, the peach cinnamon roll as big as my head was an incredible on the road snack for our day tripping around the area.
My first coffee shop experience in PVD! Brown Bee has a super cute ambiance and fast and friendly service. I got an iced White Chocolate Cherry Matcha, but tasted neither white chocolate nor cherry so that was a bit disappointing. The matcha itself was pretty strong though, which was nice. Their pastries looked so good, but I didn't have the stomach space to try haha. It's laptop-free on weekends. 7/10 would recommend for now, I'll definitely give them another try.
I've only been once so far but I was very impressed by the quality of the pastries. I tried a cafe latte croissant and really enjoyed it! Super flaky and a lot of delicious flavor from the filling and garnishes. It was very busy when I stopped by midday. They were out of some items already (I missed out on trying the French onion croissant before they replaced it with another menu item). I did find a spot to sit outside but I can see it being even harder to find a seat during peak times. It's a bit off the beaten path yet it's known and popular for a reason. I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying more items and of course the coffee!
It was a Wednesday afternoon, and I was craving a good latte. I had seen this place on social media and added it to my list of cafes to visit. There is a parking lot in the back, but I was not sure if it was for the café or apartments downstairs, so I just found street parking nearby. The inside gave me Spaniard vibes because of the cream, smooth walls and dark wooden accents. The following were the two things that instantly caught my attention when I walked in: They have merchandise on display for sale and it seems like high quality material and they had a vehicle made of croissants on display, maybe about 1.5 ft x 1 ft x 6 inches. They have their pastries on display which helps visualize what you're getting before buying it. They are unique and big in size. Their drink menu is good and includes a mix of teas (including matcha) and coffee. I went with the bee latte which was supposed to have honey, cardamom, and cayenne. I was interested in seeing how sweet, herbal/minty, and spicy would taste together. I was also [easily] self-convinced into getting a Za'atar croissant. After our order came out, we walked outside and sat at their patio area which has about 5-6 tables enough for two people each. The latte was good. I appreciated how it was not sweet, but I did think the cardamom was too subtle. It seemed like the cayenne was powder just sprinkled on top and I might've inhaled half of it on my first sip, so I was dying a bit. The Za'atar croissant was given to us in a brown paper box with the outside of their building drawn onto it. Since we asked for it toasted, it was warm and extra crispy/flaky on top. It was flat (about 1 inch thick) and about 6 inches in diameter, so big enough to share if you're just interested in a light snack. The inside of every swirl was packed with olive oil, middle eastern herbs, and lots of sesame seeds. Although it may take away from the traditional flavors and way of eating it, I wish it came with something to dip it into like whipped cream cheese or smashed olives. Nonetheless, it was delicious. On weekends, they have a laptop free policy which I think it good to allow for more people to enjoy, rather than people taking up tables for a while to do work.
What a cute coffee shop! It reminds me of the coffee shops we discovered in Paris. My husband and I shared a cafe latte croissant, which was very light and filled with a light cream. We would definitely get it again. For a beverage I had an 8 ounce Americano, which is really good and complimented the croissant nicely. I love that they serve it in actual ceramic mugs as opposed to paper cups. We also bought two packages of coffee beans so we can brew them at home.
Wow by far the best and most beautiful croissants you can get in Rhode Island! The pastry display is the first thing you see when you walk in and it is STUNNING! It will make choosing your pastry treat of the day very challenging. I have had the everything bagel croissant and the pistachio croissant, both were amazing. Their london fog tea was excellent, as was the matcha latte. The only thing Ive had that I didn't love was the halva latte, but I am excited to continue trying new things! I came here twice to try to get some work done and it does have a decent number of tables and access to outlets, however they are SO popular that it can be tricky to find a spot to sit. They also ask that you not stay more than about 90 minutes to allow for turnover for more guests. Also they have a no laptop policy on the weekends.
Food/Drinks: This place is definitely a must try. I'm usually an iced coffee type of girl, but their hot lattes are actually very, very good. I also love that they add a little design touch to the drinks. I also tried their croissants, and they are delicious. From the ones with fillings to the plain ones, they are soft, flaky, and the perfect size. I feel like the prices are reasonable for what they serve. Location: They are located in a college area, so they tend to be very busy. I usually go in, grab my order, and go. I have never really sat down to eat there because there is usually no space. It is a very popular coffee shop, but I am not surprised. The interior is modern and cozy, and they do have a good amount of tables. It is just always busy. They do not have private parking, so you have to find street parking, but it is usually not an issue unless there is a big event going on nearby. Most of the time, it is pretty easy to find street parking. It is a very casual coffee shop and perfect for grabbing coffee with a friend or two or going on a coffee date. Service: The service has always been friendly, attentive, and quick for the most part. Considering the number of people that come in, they do not take as long as you would expect. Definitely a place I will be going back to whenever I get the chance!
I went to Brown Bee for the first time and it was really tasty. I liked that you could get fun coffee drinks that weren't overly sweet too. I had a filled croissant that was delicious and light. My friend has a latte. We went around 11 and the line wasn't too bad, but a lot of things were sold out already. We were able to get a table pretty easily too. It is pretty expensive and not somewhere I'd go too often based on the price but definitely fun to check out.
So freaking good! I stopped in later in the day so unfortunately all of their pastries were sold out. I'll definitely have to try them next time. The interior is incredibly well done and feels like such a cozy and inviting space. I don't always love matcha, but knew that is what they are known. I tried the cherry white chocolate matcha and it was delicious. I wish it was closer to me because I would be in all the time. Parking is what you'd expect for the area and I did have to loop around twice to snag a spot. Can't wait to try other matcha flavors!
Loved everything about this cafe! The pumpkin croissant was spectacular! But the chocolate chocolate sea salt cookie was the best cookie I've ever eaten! I didn't expect the pumpkin puree within it. Flaky and flavorful. The pumpkin spice latte was pure Heaven. Flavorful and rich, it tasted like Autumn in a cup. Can't wait to return here.
I can't compliment that baked items enough. There was a group of us, so we got to try a bunch of stuff, and the pistachio crunch croissant was AMAZING. I would say the same about the Zaatar olive oil croissant was SO yummy. The egg and cheese sandwich was also so good. I have to admit though, it said it was an egg and cheese sandwich croissant, it wasn't clear to me that it was made on an actual croissant (because of the word sandwich). On the other hand, I ordered matcha, and it was mediocre/average. The coffee americano was decent though. Shout out to that staff for being accommodating and friendly.

Brown Bee Coffee blew me away. I had been waiting for this experience for quite a long time, with building expectations, but believe me, my high expectations were most certainly met. I ordered the blackberry mocha latte, and it was literally perfect - no notes. Perfectly sweet with amazing flavor. I also got the strawberry cinnamon roll and French onion croissant - both had perfect presentation and incredible taste. The store itself was very put together and very art-deco. If I had to complain about one thing, it would be the price. But for a once-in-a-while treat, I 100% recommend. Everyone come to Brown Bee!! read more

A very aesthetic coffee shop with decadent pastries and good coffee. There were so many creative variations of croissants and the chocolate banana almond croissant was delicious! It was filled generously with banana puree and the croissant was super flakey and buttery! I also enjoyed my brown bee cold brew on tap which was very flavorful. They also had some merch as well which was fun to look through. The service was very quick as well. Overall, it's a very photogenic cafe and a fun stop if that's what you're looking for! read more

Vibes, drinks, food - all delicious!! We are here on a Sunday morning around 10am and there was a line out the door. It moved pretty quickly and menu was posted in multiple spots for people to view before they ordered. The pastries are all in the case when you walk in and look so good! We ordered the brown bee cold brew, chai, and s'mores pastry and everything is super yummy! Would come again for sure to try other options. Price is a bit high but quality is great! Lots of seating inside and tables outside as well. read more

This was one of the most pleasant café visits in a while. The staff was polite and despite the constant stream of patrons and packed seating area, they greeted every single person with excitement and a smile. The space was adorable. It felt like you were in someone's home, it was cozy, comfortable and honestly, I didn't really want to leave. Now, the croissants.. Lord, the croissants. The amount of care and time that goes into these needs no explanation. It's plain to see and you can absolutely taste it. I'm no croissant connoisseur, but I enjoy what I think are good ones from time to time. This was exceptional. Even traveling abroad in Italy and France, trying out either similarly layered pastry or croissants themselves, these rivaled and surpassed them for me. I may get beat down for that opinion, but I'll die on that hill. Point is, they were really, REALLY good. My wife and I were taking turns sharing bites out of these croissants and there are few times a food is that delicious on all fronts, taste, texture, aroma (etc.) that it captures every bit of your attention and you can just enjoy the moment and not be swayed by anything else. You're saying "dude they're just croissants..." but I'm saying, please try them and go enjoy someone's company while you share the experience together. read more
Pastries were great but I wish they were labeled to streamline not having to ask what each one is when it's not readily identifiable. Also I really wish they offered the breakfast sandwich daily instead of just weekends :( read more

I think the aesthetic is what's selling this place. I will say that the croissant was very good! The place is also adorable. It's just overpriced. The coffee wasn't flavorful. I got the pistachio latte and my friend got the specialty cold brew on the menu. Both were just not that good for the price. The pastries were cute, very flaky which was great. The filling just was jelly on one side and chocolate on the other. They also have indoor and outdoor seating a merchandise available for purchase. read more

Genuinely shocked by all the wonderful reviews. My husband got the Brown Bee Cold Brew and had me take a sip because he was so shocked at the rancid flavor. it was the most disgusting coffee I've ever tried, it tasted sour? They also did not have any decaf options. In this day and age that seems crazy, i've never had an issue getting decaf anywhere else. My french onion croissant was okay but definitely will not be returning. read more
As one of Providence's newer cafes, Brown Bee Coffee has certainly added some fierce competition to the mix. They are known for their specialty croissants (and will soon be debuting an expanded menu!), and these massive, flakey, buttery, tasty, creative, and delectable croissants are some of the best I've ever had. I personally think they are the best in the area. These croissants are certainly big enough to share, but you may find yourself hoarding every bite for yourself. I also LOVE that the staff offers some samples of breads or croissants while you wait in line to order; It's a nice touch. They have great lattes as well. The Bee Latte, which is made with honey, cardamom, and cayenne, is the perfect blend of sweet and spice, and the milk texture was excellent. I also tried a cortado, and it was a proper cortado with equal parts steamed milk and espresso. The décor and aesthetic of Brown Bee Coffee needs its own paragraph to describe how quaint, cozy, and cute the café is! As you enter the door, you are enveloped in a warm color palette of browns, tans, and creams. They have some plush bench seating with comfortable padded chairs across. There is also a communal table for customers to share. The arches in the middle of the space have become iconic and add to the rustic charm. Brown Bee's branding is truly on another level. Cups, napkins, plates, containers, they did it right. I have also purchased one of their T-shirts and it is very high quality. If I could live in this café, I would. Though, they did just announce limited seating time to 90 mins, so there goes that dream. But, in all seriousness, Brown Bee Coffee is a wonderful additional to Providence. It has become one of my staple cafes and I enjoy every trip. I highly recommend paying a visit and enjoying the full Brown Bee experience. read more

This was my second time visiting and for my birthday and it flopped a bit.. I came on a Sunday at about 10am, there wasn't a long line like there usually is on Saturday which was nice. the service from the employees was great too ! I asked to dine in ( my receipt said so as well ) but received my pastries in a to go box. I then waited about 10 minutes for my second drink to come out, turns out they forgot to make it. I was pretty disappointed with my visit but the employees were kind to fix up the issues ASAP though. read more
I've been trying to make it out to Brown Bee since it opened, and finally got a chance to a few days ago! I got the bee latte, and a strawberry circular croissant and a croissant that was similar to an everything bagel with cream cheese inside. The croissants were both delicious and rather filling! They had a perfect flaky crunch to them, since they weren't exactly like regular croissants. The bee latte was pretty good, but after about an hr, all the cayenne settled to the bottom and made it hard to drink. Next time, I would probably do without the cayenne. The inside of the cafe was super cute though, and I'd definitely stop by again! read more

Brown bee coffee is a small cafe on College Hill serving freshly baked croissants and other pastries. Founded by a Johnson & Wales pastry chef, the baked goods are both beautiful and expertly made. The highlight of the cafe are the croissants. They are filled with decadent cream and the layers are flaky and buttery. There is serious croissant competition in Providence but this is a top contender. My favorite is the caffe latte, but I'm curious to try the savory croissants next time. There is a modest coffee selection too, but I think the main draw of this cafe are the croissants. Arrive early for the best selection as they tend to sell out! read more

the service was great and everyone was very nice. we went on a friday morning and it was extremely busy, no seating left. we got a butter croissant (ordered the chocolate but it was sold out) and a croissant pudding, they were okay. the drinks were also just okay. we spent $50 on our order and were a tad bit disappointed. the place was decorated nicely and was very aesthetically pleasing. overall, if you like an aesthetically pleasing cafe, try it out for yourself. read more

I love the aesthetic and ambiance of this cafe/bakery. Everything is very cohesive and it feels like the exterior/interior, branding, pastries and coffee tell a complete story. The pastries were amazing and some of the best quality in Providence. The Mango Matcha was lacking in matcha flavor, I would recommend adding more matcha powder or switching to a stronger powder. The cafe is very busy which is a good sign and the menu Looks Good, and the Baked Items Look Good. Notice those are about the look. This feels like their main driver "insta baking" they also have a somewhat tacky count of their instagram follower count displayed. The Brown Bee is supposed to be coffee, milk, and honeycomb, not sure how that comes out to the same flavor as black coffee but ok. The French Onion Croissant was a face sized croissant with a drizzle of French onion. Extremely underwhelming. The chocolate Strawberry croissant fares better imitating a jelly donut with a core of chocolate and strawberry. Last was a glazed croissant. Which was good but hardly worth writing home about. Three baked goods and 2 coffees $40 the price and taste don't quite line up for me. A shorter version is only come here if you absolutely love croissant dough. read more

I tried going at 8:30 AM on a weekday, but they were already out of the pistachio pastry. The next time, I got there earlier, at 8 AM, and it was totally worth it was really good! This place is worth the wait and does not disappoint. Even with a line out the door, the cue moves fairly quick and you're able to read through the menu that's posted on the window while you're outside. While we were waiting, someone from the staff came by and offered everyone slices of a fresh baguette - a nice touch! Once inside, there's so much to admire; the pour-over coffee lineup, the massive croissants out on the counter on display, the readily available water cups to quench your thirst, the chic lighting, the merchandise hanging in the corner, the dozen tables and matching chairs to get cozy in, AND lots of outlets to plug in to for a nice study-friendly environment. This place isn't just about the tasty beverages and pastries - it's the total, welcoming ambiance. We got there at 9:30am on a Saturday and luckily got a table after ordering. You can expect to pay about $10 for a beverage and treat. We stayed for about 1.5 hours and spent our time enjoying cappuccinos, doodling, and writing. Very cute little cafe, very small though, so it can feel a little cramped. The staff were friendly nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered a vanilla matcha and split some croissants with friends. I felt as if the pistachio croissant needed more flavor the filling was just sweet and the French onion toppings could have been distributed across better. They were both good nonetheless. The banana chocolate almond croissant was amazing, I would absolutely recommend! My drink was good too. Overall a nice place. read more
Providence's newest coffee shop is an adorable addition to Benefit street with cozy vibes, comfortable seating, plenty of outlets, and functional wifi! I stopped in to grab a latte and a croissant, and both scratched the itch. The chocolate inside the pain au chocolate is delicious and rich, with nice crunch and flakiness in the pastry. I've also tried their French onion soup croissant which has a nice flavor although it's not super mind blowing. Would highly recommend stopping in, though the line can get long! read more
