I'm a huge matcha girlie, and I've been on a quest to find good matcha in PVD- Ceremony definitely hit the spot! We got the Dalgona and Strawberry matcha lattes, of which- surprisingly to us- we liked the former more (just felt like the strawberry way overpowered the matcha). The dalgona was not only interesting to crunch on, but also provided the perfect amount of sweetness once it melted into the drink (could also appreciate the matcha much more in this drink). Ambiance was nice and casual with lots of tables to hang/work at, but it was really busy. Service was fast and friendly. I'll definitely be back to try more, 8/10 would recommend.
This spot serves some of the richest and most flavorful Coffee / Matcha around. The service was excellent, and I loved that they also have a cozy café bar offering adult beverages, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I would definitely return again!
Ceremony is a matcha focused cafe on College Hill in Providence that has built a following well beyond the immediate Brown University and RISD crowd it sits closest to. I walked into a space that is bright and well designed, with large windows bringing in natural light on a sunny day and a layout that works for both sitting with a drink and getting some work done. The matcha program is the reason most people come here. I noticed the menu follows seasons and trends in a way that keeps the offering from feeling static, and the flavor combinations go beyond what most cafes in the area attempt. I tried the strawberry matcha, which is the most liked drink here, and it was decent. The hojicha latte is a strong alternative for anyone who wants something with a roasted, earthier quality rather than the grassy brightness of standard matcha. Sweetener is an add on rather than included by default, which is worth knowing when you place your order, particularly if you are accustomed to cafes that automatically offer a simple syrup option. The menu also extends into wine and cocktails for evening visits, which gives the space a different function than a typical daytime cafe. Consistency on the matcha is mixed, with occasional issues around mixing and clumping that affect both the flavor and the texture. When it is well made, the quality is evident. The cafe gets crowded and loud during peak hours, so visiting on a weekday or arriving early on weekends gives you a better experience of the space. Parking in the area is manageable compared to most of Providence. For a matcha focused cafe with a unique menu and a bright, comfortable space, Ceremony is worth knowing about.
This place ruined all other matches for me. It's just so far superior, it's in a league of its own. Then the cuteness of the Teddy floaters.. stop it now. Just take my money. I like the one on south main a little better, people tend to "camp out" in the cafe on brook street with laptops and very hard to get a seat. No food which usually means you'll need to make another stop somewhere else but the matcha is truly unmatched.
Ceremony is a great cafe near Brown. The matcha drinks are all delicious and actually have a good amount of matcha flavor. They're not overly milky which is a problem I often have at other places. I also really like the large selection of hot teas you can get. They have lots of fun seasonal flavors which I always love. I haven't tried many of their snack items, but they have plenty of selection.
A place where you can actually work and enjoy good matcha and more! They have wine and cocktails too! Worth a try if you're having a tough day or just want to experience good food and drinks with a friendly atmosphere. Hard to find parking so walk if you're nearby. Good onigiri and tayaki!
Tucked away in a vibrant corner off Thayer Street, this modern coffee and tea shop is a true gem. From the moment you step inside, the clean, minimalist design and natural light create an inviting, calming atmosphere. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a blend of classic favorites and innovative seasonal drinks. Whether you're in the mood for a velvety matcha or a refreshing yuzu spritz, everything is brewed to perfection. The baristas are clearly passionate about their craft- friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to offer recommendations based on your taste. Served with attention to detail that borders on ceremonial. Whether you're working on your laptop, catching up with a friend, or simply taking a moment for yourself, Ceremony feels like exactly where you're meant to be.
Ceremony is an Asian-inspired cafe in Providence. It's conveniently located near Brown University, so it gets plenty of traffic from students. Parking is tough in this area, so you're going to have to cross your fingers and circle around. We popped in on a Sunday afternoon to get some drinks before a road trip. It was PACKED with college students studying in groups. There's a decent amount of tables for individuals or groups of two, bar seating near the counter, and a communal table near the back for large groups. The cafe itself is beautiful. Very minimalistic decor, clean, and bright. They have Asian pastries and snacks available for purchase on display, as well as refrigerators filled with canned beverages, liquor (wowwww), and cold foods. Near the back area, they have merchandise and local pottery for sale. Now onto the beverages. There weren't any prices displayed on the menu... personally, that's a pet peeve of mine. You can look them up online... and boy, they are steep! They even charge you ten cents for no ice lol. Since this is an Asian-inspired cafe, most of their drinks have matcha, yuzu, ube, black sesame, masala chai, etc. It's one standard size for all drinks. The owner is passionate about supporting small, family-owned tea farmers in Asia, so she sources her products directly from them. We ordered... *Dirty Matcha 2/5 (~$7) - A latte made with milk, a shot of matcha, and two shots of espresso. I could tell that the matcha they use is high quality because of its vibrant green color. It was earthy and slightly bitter with a natural sweetness. However, the espresso was terrible. I'm not sure what kind of coffee beans they use, but it ruined the whole drink. It's what I imagine murky pond water would taste like... maybe they didn't add enough milk? *Keemun Milk Tea with boba 2/5 (~$8) - Keemun is a type of Chinese black tea with toasty and smoky flavors. They also added lavender syrup, which made it taste very floral... Too floral that I felt like I was drinking perfume. I did not like this at all, but my +1 did. Just a disclaimer... the boba they use is red bean popping boba, which I wasn't a huge fan of. Service was on the slower end due to how busy it was. Maybe I ordered the wrong drinks, but I most likely wouldn't come back if I was in the area. It's a cute cafe to get some work done, but the drinks are overpriced for the portions. I didn't love it, but maybe you will.
Customer service needs a bit of work here. I walked in and the cashier said nothing to me but said hi to the customer behind me. The girl continued to just pick and choose what customers to say hi to. This whole interaction spoiled the whole experience to be honest. Most cafes are inviting and warm this one was cold and standoffish. On to the drinks: -Mango Matcha Latte: this was SO disappointing. There were fibrous pieces of the mango in this drink. I had so much in my mouth throughout the drink. See photos. I threw this drink out after a couple sips. The matcha was so watery and milky. For $7 I would expect them to at least strain the mango puree. -Brown Sugar Hojicha Latte: this was good but not good enough to come back. Overall, service definitely needs work.
Cozy cafe with quality drinks. On the pricer side ($7-10), but good for an occasional treat or meet up with friends! Matcha Latte was a bit bland/tasteless, so my friend had to add some additional simple syrup to bring out the matcha flavor. I was obsessed with the seasonal pear caramel matcha latte the first time I got it - with the pear adding natural sweetness to the earthy matcha. Second time I got it though, the matcha was a bit too bitter to my liking. Service is standard; they get the job done!
This is clearly a popular college hang out spot! There's a little section of cards and gifts and a refrigerator section with some treats to take home. I wanted the ube latte but I'm not sure if they don't have it anymore or were temporarily out. I got the hojicha latte instead and it was tasty. I also grabbed a matcha roll cake slice. I enjoyed the sweet treat. They have a bunch of interesting drinks so I will be back. Parking was tricky. Service was pleasant and answered my questions about how to get my drink (hot or iced, less sweet etc).
This was on my list of places to visit in Providence. It's so nice to see the boom in matcha cafes so I was pretty excited. The matcha was ok, not too bad. I ordered a dirty matcha latte with oat milk. It was definitely not too sweet which is great because I usually ask for half-sweet drinks. The place was packed with students, but there were some tables outside which was fine for a spring day in RI. Also recommend trying the halva babka. It was pretty sweet (so perfect to pair with a less sweet drink) and a big enough piece to share with someone. I will say- we asked for it to be warmed up, but they were unable to do that :( idk why
Good coffee, nice staff. I liked the ability to self order on the screen. The presentation of the espresso bears was an awesome touch. I would come back here again.
5 Stars for a great strawberry matcha latte and phenomenal cappuccino. This coffee and matcha shop has so much more to it than a typical coffee shop. It has a ton of Japanese treats in the fridge as well as shelves. They also have a bar and sell wine and fun cocktails. They brew Bolt coffee (a local brewer and coffee shop) and make a truly exceptional cappuccino. Like, really really good third wave style espresso drinks that I've not found at other shops in Providence so far (two week visit). I was initially worried their iced strawberry matcha latte might be too sweet, but that was fortunately not at all the case! It was balanced and mild. Just be sure to stir it up! They also have some pastries and baked goods from Seven Stars Bakery, and we thoroughly enjoyed a small lemon cake. We'll likely be back in our last few days in town because we became quick fans! read more
Ordered: Iced French Vanilla Espresso Latte (~$7) + Espresso Teddy (~$3) Iced Mont Blanc (~$8): cold brew coffee with a slightly sweet orange flavor and a smooth orange forward cold foam topping Aya's take: Ceremony is conveniently located close to Brown University and I can totally see this spot being popular during the school year. I like the branding, brightness of the cafe, and the fact that there's a decent amount of seating. I got the Iced French Vanilla Espresso Latte + Espresso Teddy which was well-made, bold, and enjoyable. I think the Espresso Teddy is actually made with cold brew and not espresso which I expected given the name and would have preferred. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the slow melt and the boost of caffeine I got as I kept sipping. And it's super cute! The Iced Mont Blanc was also a good try; the sweet orange flavor was subtle and surprisingly enjoyable adding a bright taste to each sip. If I'm ever back in Providence, I would totally come back and maybe try their matcha drinks. read more

Ceremony definitely overpromised and underdelivered on expectations. It would have been a complete disappointment if not for the visually appealing presentation of the drinks. Driven by heavy social media presence on Instagram, this shop proved to be a classic example of a cute concept that fails on execution. The shop features a modern, clean aesthetic but suffers from highly inefficient operations. The layout makes it unclear where the ordering line actually begins, and the printed menus do not match the menus displayed on the wall. This forced a rushed ordering process, leading me to order a standard Strawberry Matcha. While the drink's presentation was pretty, the flavor was only average and did not justify the steep, overpriced cost--especially for an establishment located in a prominent college area. Color was on point but flavor was very milky and slightly tart. I don't say this often, but it needed sugar. Service was interesting. Drinks are served filled to the brim without lids. You retrieve the lids yourself in a separate counter area. This design flaw was highlighted when a nearby couple spilled their entire order onto the floor simply while walking over to get a cap. Rather than stepping in immediately to help clean up the mess and offer new drinks, the staff stood and stared at this couple for longer than they should have before offering assistance. Also, I would've liked a teddy bear too but didn't see it on the menu so I didn't order it. Between the high prices, lackluster service, and operational confusion, the overall experience does not warrant a return visit. Go get a sugarcane drink around the corner instead! read more

Overall: 4.5/5 [take out] We were lucky to find free metered parking right across from Ceremony since it was a Sunday. Ceremony has large glass windows, allowing you to see all the happenings inside. They offer a range of Asian-inspired drinks and food options, from egg sandos to hojicha lattes. Beyond being a coffee bar, they also feature a ceremony room and a bar that serves both mocktails and cocktails! Although it was crowded, it felt like organized chaos. Iced Strawberry Matcha ($6.50) + Oat Milk ($0.50) + Honey ($0.75): This was really good. The strawberry puree wasn't overly sweet, and it does require a bit of scraping off the cup's sides in order to mix it in. The drink itself was well-balanced with a smooth texture, and the perfect level of sweetness, even with the added honey. Iced Caramel Pear Latte with Espresso ($6.25) + Oat Milk ($0.50): I'd never seen a drink like this, so I had to try it. The espresso flavor came through without being overpowering or bitter and was complemented by subtle hints of caramel and pear. The cashier mentioned it was on the sweeter side, but I found the sweetness just right. The flavors also worked surprisingly well together :) I definitely recommend checking out this cute coffee shop. After we got our drinks, we enjoyed a stroll through Brown University and then headed to our lunch spot. read more
Ceremony really specializes in different tea, and matcha flavors. So if you're looking for simple ice coffee this may not be it. I arrived right when they open and asked to try " The Dalgona" ice coffee which is advertised as having a rich complexion of sweetened espresso and milk making this drink very rich and creamy but was told they are sold out even when coming in early. So I opted for the ice brown sugar latte with whole milk. If I'm honest this did not wow me enough to make this my go to coffee spot. Flavor of the brown sugar was really lacking. I was hoping to get a nice dark brown glaze covering around my cup with the bursting flavors of espresso and just got bland coffee. Parking is inconvenient a.k.a no parking at all, they oddly don't put tops on the lids, and the straws are paper which made it hard to drink my coffee since the straw got all soggy. The space was really nice though, the music they had playing was relaxing and everything was super clean. read more

Tried the strawberry matcha and wow- this matcha is the real deal. It's my new obsession. I have one at least 5 times a week. (Crying into wallet). The atmosphere is like a cozy study zone, packed with people pretending to be productive (same). They even offer matcha classes that I'm dying to try though they fill up faster than I finish this latte. Hopefully, one day I'll snag a spot and become a matcha master. read more

Got the yuzu matcha and a ceremony latte (black sesame latte hot). Quick service, lots of seating but very occupied. Street parking. Cozy vibes. Didn't love either of the drinks we tried. The black sesame latte wasn't very sweet or nutty, the yuzu matcha was refreshing but not for me. read more

Ceremony has been on my list of cafes to visit in Providence and it didn't disappoint. We stopped by while we were in town on the Friday after Thanksgiving around 3pm and it was pretty packed. By the time we got our drinks, it cleared out a lot and we got counter seats. Seems like a popular place for people working on their laptops. I got the Adzuki Matcha Latte, which I really enjoyed. Not too sweet, and it had a nice balance of matcha flavor with the red bean. read more
My sister and I ordered the strawberry matcha latte and the yuzu lemonade and they were both delicious! The matcha was a layered drink with the matcha, the milk, and the strawberry puree and it was subtly sweet and balanced. The yuzu lemonade is more on the tart side and reminiscent of a seltzer when you get it sparkling. The ambience and the space was also very nice and relaxing and the staff were very friendly. Would come back again to try their other drinks! read more

Ceremony is a cute cafe and very popular among Brown University students. When I arrived around 9:30am on a Monday during the semester, there was only 1 seat available in a long table. If you come back during school break, there is plenty of seating available and a lot quieter. In the warmer nicer weather, there are tables outside as well. There is free Wi-Fi and the overhead playlist is great for studying and doing work. Ceremony offers Asian inspired beverages with matcha, black sesame, and hojicha, traditional Asian pastries & snacks in the refrigerator and on display, a selection of local pottery and tea wares sourced from China, Taiwan and Japan, crochet kits, and so much more. After ordering, the staff will call your name when your drink is ready. I've had their Lavender Matcha Latte, Strawberry Matcha, and most recently Rose Matcha Latte. Their drinks are high quality, not overly sweet, and has a hint of floral. In my personal opinion, I wish it had more of a floral taste. The drinks definitely are aesthetically pleasing. It's definitely worth a try. read more
Price 3.5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Interior 3.8/5 Not a lot of seating Drinks 2.7/5 Service 5/5 I had quite some expectations for this place as it was very packed. Unfortunately Me and my friends were not all impressed I got a lavender matcha with a bear my total was $9.72 .... It's very pricy. The Hojicha with black sesame was the same the price but all I could taste was nuttiness. The matchas were ok it lacks the strong flavor of matcha and sweetener. My friend also ordered a drink hot but instead received it Iced - they were very busy though so it's understandable. Overall for the price this place is not one I'd recommend. read more

I got a Strawberry Matcha with coconut milk and a Rose Matcha with a Strawberry Teddy. Both matchas had a great color, but somehow tasted more like milk than matcha. The actual strawberry syrup in the strawberry matcha was a bit tart and tasted like it was fresh, definitely not artificial at all, but if you're expecting something sweet like Blank Street strawberry matcha, you're in the wrong place. The Rose Matcha had some rose petals and the rose syrup had a "barely there" flavor. The Strawberry Teddy did not add additional flavor to the matcha after it melted. I do not think either matcha was worth the cost. I came on a Sunday afternoon, and despite being very crowded, service was pretty fast (less than 10min wait). The staff seemed very professional and like they had their process down to a tee. The cafe itself was beautiful and simple. I liked the light woods and they had lots of other little japanese snacks for sale. Not sure I would ever come here again because it's a bit pricey, but if I did, I would not get a matcha, but try one of the other drinks. read more
Ceremony is one of my favorite cafés and I visit their Brook Street location regularly. It is a modern tea house with creative and unique offerings. I have ordered most of their menu items, experienced the private tea ceremony, and attended their 2023 mid-autumn festival event. I cannot recommend this spot enough, so let's dive into some of my favorite things about Ceremony. o Food/Drinks Although Ceremony's food menu is limited, they do have some of the tastiest tea snacks around! The Chinese mooncakes (seasonal), Taiwanese pineapple pastries, and Japanese Taiyaki are delicious - not too sweet, but the flavors still stand out (red bean and lotus fillings are my favorites). The store has also recently expanded their food selection to include traditional Asian street foods and dishes including onigiri, tea eggs, and yubuchobap. As for their extensive drink menu, you will find carefully crafted concoctions such as the Adzuki Matcha, Black Sesame Latte, and Ube Latte, as well as a large selection of loose-leaf tea sourced from their partner farms across Asia. Oolong tea is my preference, but each tea is delightful in its own way. Plus, when you choose to dine-in with a tea order, they usually provide some crunchy rice snacks as an accompaniment, which is a nice touch. The tea and espresso-based drinks always keep me coming back for more. o Ambiance Every time I step foot into this storefront, feelings of calmness and serenity wash over me, and I can't help but take inspiration from the décor to incorporate into my own home. The space is light and bright, and minimal, yet thoughtful. It's a lovely space to sit and chat with a friend or to get some work done. I will give everyone a fair warning that it can be very difficult to secure a table. The seating is not plentiful, and guests are usually there for an extended time. But I've gotten lucky with getting a seat at the counter (because they don't allow laptops in that area), and some outdoor seating is offered. o Service For the majority of my visits, I have experienced friendly workers who are warm and welcoming and excited to talk about tea! In more recent days, I have noticed a lot of new faces behind the bar, but each employee seems to have the same level of intent and concentration when building your order. This is a typical café style of service - order at the counter, pick up your items when your name is called - standard and efficient. o Value Most drinks are upwards of $6. This can be seen as a bit expensive, but at the same time, the pricing is justified based on the quality of ingredients and their uniqueness. Worth the price in my opinion! Plus, they have a great rewards system for returning customers when you sign up through Toast Tab - 1 point for every $1 spent and you can claim the reward at 50 points for a $5 discount. o Overall, I highly recommend taking a trip to Ceremony on Brook Street or South Main Street in Providence. It is a wonderful café with expertly integrated Asian influence that will most certainly not disappoint. read more
