    Gluten Free Coffee Cake
    Alex C.

We came across this place on our way through Providence and decided to check it out since there were several gluten free options. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is very cozy, they have several types of seating options and it seems like a nice place to come and get some work done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are dozens of different pieces of art for sale as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered a cold brew and a slice of their gluten free coffee cake, which was moist but crumbly at the same time. It paired really well with the cold brew which was smooth and flavorful. The cookies were extremely tempting and the sandwiches smelled amazing, I need to come back to try out more items!

    NOVEMBER RAIN

Small format is a cute, small café on Wickendon Street in Providence and somehow I had no idea about it until I forced myself to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. This cafe has several small and large size tables indoors as well as a few smaller tables outside adjacent to the street. I was absolutely clueless about what to get to drink and eat at this café. I asked the employee at the front and she gave me a thorough breakdown on what's on the menu. After much contemplation, I decided to go with NOT 4 VAMPIRES, which has Hashbrowns, Sharp Cheddar, Veggie Sausage, & house-made Whipped Garlic on a Everything Bagel (vegetarian). This sandwich was really delicious!! The overwhelming flavor was that of the sharp cheddar and hash browns as the vegan sausage was more mild. This sandwich looks small, but it will make you stuffed (in a good way), so come hungry. I also had a White Raz Mocha Latte and it had the perfect combination of coffee flavor along with some sweetness. The white raspberry mocha flavor is not one you see so often, so I'd go for it if you come. I can't say enough about the staff. Everyone that I've encountered there are hard workers, very kind and super knowledgeable. Please give them their well deserved tips because they certainly deserve it. -ODL Connect with me! Food: I love their breakfast sandwiches here! We tried the "not 4 vampires" sandwich on an English muffin, cheddar scone and on an everything bagel before. All versions were yummy! I also tried the November rain and it was also really good. For drinks, the salted caramel latte, the miso brown sugar latte, and the pistachio latte were my favorite! All are so good! Service: Their staff have always been so nice and friendly. Love the service there. Ambiance: It's a cute and small cafe. There are about 4-5 tables inside with seating so it's not that tiny. There are some nice art and plants inside as well. They also have some outdoor seating available as well. Parking can be tough because there's mainly just street parking. It's one of our fav new cafes in RI!

4 words: Miso Brown Sugar Latte. That's what the magicians at Small Format made for me the other day. That's what turned my day from disaster into doable. The employees here are so kind. I knew my latte was going to smack just by my interaction with them. That's when you know the aura is STRONG! As well as the Miso Brown Sugar Latte, I also ordered the "November Rain" sandwich which was egg, turkey bacon, hash brown, pepperjack, & sun dried tomato aioli. I asked them for hot sauce & gluten-free bread. This was my 2 PM breakfast of champions & it exceeded all expectations. Enthusiastic 5/5 stars!

A delicious smoked turkey, turkey bacon, avocado, and aioli sandwich. Super friendly and quick service, so glad I stopped by.

Very sweet!!!! I stopped in quick for a latte and to check out if there were any vegan pastries, luckily there was one matcha lemon frosted sugar cookie left! I mentioned I was on the way to a job interview and the barista wrote me some luck and love on the cup that truly just made my whole day. I wish I took a picture of the cookie but I scarfed it down SO quick, it was so delicious! The seasonal maple latte I tried was awesome, can't wait to come back here & to try the other vegan specialty drinks & items!!!!

Not 4 Vampires - subbed egg for the vegan sausage

Small Format, perfect name for this little hole in the wall coffee shop. I've walked by so many times wondering, how is that spot? Looks fun in there.. Well today is the day. Parked my car down the street behind coffee exchange on Alves way and walked up. You can probably find street parking closer, but I like the walk. I bursted through the door all excited and didn't even realize they don't technically open for another few minutes- the staff was insanely nice though, 2 kind people greeted me with a smile, a good morning, and a welcome in. I took my time digesting the menu, asking some questions and I was happily given some recommendations. I ended up going with the "Not 4 Vampires" and what an aptly named sandwich this is. There is so much garlic flavor packed in here that I could feel my Italian ancestors smiling down on me from the great beyond. This is an ultimate comfort food sandwich. A grilled bagel, topped with a crisp and fluffy hash brown, whipped garlic, cheddar cheese and I subbed an egg for the vegan sausage. I really enjoyed it. It was so tasty, and the greens were perfect for eating up all the bits that fell out of the sandwich (and they will). It's jam-packed. Be warned, not for the faint at heart when it comes to garlic. Personally I can't have too much. I also got an Americano, tasted and looked like they used a light roast espresso- pulled a double shot and topped with roughly 3-4oz of water. It was such a nice ratio of espresso to water, I could still taste the espresso and it maintained a nice crema. So many places will just dump 12oz water over a few shots of espresso and call it a day, not here. Very well executed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I thought the space was fun, it's laid out to maximize the space, and the staff is amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's also pretty much full service. They'll take your drinks to you as well as the food and will clean up after you head out. Will absolutely be back here. They have quite an extensive list of flavored coffee drinks/specialty lattes they make, not my preference, but if it's yours, might be worth the stop in as I believe they make most of their ingredients/syrups etc in house, similar to their condiments for the food.

On a fun and busy street like Wickenden, Small Format still stands out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not only because of its colorful exterior or unique interior with different types of seats and interesting artwork.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Small Format stands out with their friendly and welcoming staff, delicious coffee, and tasty food. When you visit, make sure you try their Coffee Cake... it's amazing!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Small Format is an adorably cute cafe on Wickenden Street in Providence. The outside is colorful and definitely stands out on the street.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is tiny, but it's quaint and cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Be aware, however, that there is no restroom at this cafe, even for customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered a hot Brown Sugar Miso Latte with oat milk and the Not 4 Vampires breakfast sandwich with an egg added. Wow! I loved both of these items! The latte came in an adorable green glass mug and was sweet, but not too sweet. I liked the flavor combination of miso and espresso with the natural brown sugar sweetness. My critique for the latte would be that the milk texture was more like milk foam, rather than a nice, smooth steamed milk. But I still enjoyed it. The breakfast sandwich was so, so good! It was big and hearty and outrageously tasty! The garlic flavor was very pronounced, which I LOVE, and the sandwich stayed together as I ate it. It was like a comfort meal and it kept me full for a while. I also liked that it was served on a cutting board - very cute. The workers at Small Format were super friendly as well! Everyone was nice, helpful, and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great environment to enjoy your meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would 100% return to Small Format, and I highly recommend for others to give it a try too!

Uhhhh woah. This place is amazing and I'm so glad we came across it. We were in town and I wanted a good coffee. This popped up so we gave it a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location isn't very big but so cool inside, the aesthetic was such a mixture of styles but it was so cute.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of small groups hanging out and some people working. Truly a place for everyone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The coffee drinks were fantastic and the baristas know what they're doing. The star of the show was the Not 4 Vampires. If you like garlic. Woah. It was AMAZING. Great coffee, great breakfast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a cool spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What an adorable coffee shop on a busy, fun street in Providence.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is comfy with different types of seating for your different moods, beautiful art installations and crafts displayed (and for sale), and a super fun menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had a lavender latte that was simply perfect. Not too sweet. The lavender simple syrup is house made, and they assured me I wouldn't be disappointed. They were right! My friend got a breakfast sandwich that made me very jealous. The folks working were so inviting and kind. Looking forward to going back!

I got the salted pistachio latte. The description of it tasting like melted pistachio ice cream is a great description. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is small but has done a good job at maximizing seating options while keeping the space interesting and airy feeling[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

A friend and I came in and put our names on the waitlist, waited for about 45 minutes at a bar down the street, and then had some of the most fulfilling tapas ever! We got a Prosciutto & Salpicao board, the Queijo de Cabra, and Frijol Dip. I also got a nice portuguese red wine that paired well with some of the cheese we received. We sat in a very sweet and cozy nook and enjoyed every minute! I will be back when it's warm out and the front patio is open!

At their front patio, they had the World Cup game playing, but the back patio felt cozier so we opted for that. The inside though was a strong second since the lighting is very low, creating a cool and calm environment. Walking through the restaurant to get to our table made me realize that each table is unique, no two are decorated the same or have the same furniture. It was a hot day but the overhead mesh cover blocked out a lot of the sun. Our waitress made us feel very welcome from the start and told us about their drink and food specials. My friend ordered Guatemalan beer as well as a Spanish beer. For food, we ordered the plantain fries, octopus, calamari, and shrimp salad, and grilled lamp chops. The seafood salad came out first. According to the menu, it was going to be paired with cornbread. It looked like sourdough bread but had a far denser consistency. I was expecting the salad to have lots of shrimp to act as a filler but surprisingly, it was about 60% octopus, 25% calamari, 10% shrimp, and 5% onions. The seafood was very flavorful, tasted fresh, and cooked perfectly. The portion size was great for two. Next came the plantain fries, which I was least impressed with as it was essentially fried plantain chunks. I think it would have been better if they were cut into smaller pieces that can be easily dipped and consumed in one bite. The plantain was gently ripe, so just a little sweet and the dipping sauce was like a less sour sour cream. Lastly, the lamp chops came out and the presentation was wonderful. They were a bit skinnier and less tender than that I was expecting, but flavor wise they were good. We enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service here.

I was lucky to have tried North when it was open so when I saw the former chefs were preparing the meal for Chef Night, I knew I had to sign up and was so glad I did. The meal was stupendous! The first course was shrimp and corn fritters. The fritters were filled with shrimp and corn and you can visually see the shrimp and corn. It wasn't overly doughy and the sauce was delicious! Chef Andrew described the dish and he told us that the shrimp was locally sourced from Dune Brothers. The second course was noodles with tomato and pepper dashi and grilled fish. The noodles were fresh, but it started to get a little clumpy. The dashi was really flavorful. The third course was miso tres leches cake with sakura whipped cream. This course I was the most excited about and it totally blew my expectations. Chef Andrew told us that they hand picked sakura petals and made their own whipped cream. The tres leches cake was moist, dense, and airy. The dessert was definitely the star of the show. Bravo to chefs Andrew McQuesten and Stephen Sternkopf for a wonderful locally sourced meal.
