I really wanted to love Coffee Exchange because the rustic, aesthetic vibes are totally my thing, but the energy was just... off. It's a great-looking spot in RI with a small patio and some limited parking in the back, but the atmosphere felt pretty unwelcoming. To be honest, as a person of color, I felt like we were treated differently than other customers. While the person taking our order was fine, the rest of the staff and even the patrons were snappy and rude, which really killed the vibe. It's a shame because the coffee itself is actually incredible. You can tell they really know what they're doing--the options are expansive and every cup is clearly well-crafted. If you're just in it for a high-quality brew and don't mind a side of cold energy, it might be worth it, but the lack of basic hospitality makes it hard to fully enjoy. A total "vibey" spot on the outside, but definitely lacked the warmth you'd expect from a local coffee shop. read more

Coffee Exchange is a pretty popular Fox Point spot, the vibes are classic coffee shop, love all the wooden accents. I got an iced matcha latte, which was decent with adequate matcha flavor, and I appreciated that they hand-whisked it. They didn't really have many interesting syrups though, but I suppose that's fair if the focus is on coffee quality. Service was relatively fast, there were so many people around. 8/10 would recommend! read more

A funky old house converted to a hip coffee house. Very cool and very busy. Customer service is top notch! After ordering my outstanding Americano, I noticed they have a nice variety of whole bean roasts and decided to pick up a bag to take home. Pretty typical of me when visiting a new town. They also have a great selection of souvenirs to include burlap coffee bags. As I was sifting through them the guy that helped me with the bag of whole bean stopped what he was doing to look down stairs to see if they had a specific bag and was happy to do it! I recently came back to Coffee Exchange to purchase coffee for friends since I knew they really enjoy Coffee Exchange. Next to the order counter, there is a collection of Coffee Exchange's sustainably sourced, and freshly roasted, specialty coffee. A staff member welcomed me and asked how he could help. I informed him I was looking to purchase a pound of the Guatemala Chajul American Roast and Colombia Fudam American Roast. He asked if I wanted it to be grinded and I said yes. Then, he asked if it was for French press, chemex, espresso, or drip. Since I wasn't sure what brewing method my friends used, he asked if they lived locally and I said yes. Since different methods require different grind sizes to optimize extraction and flavor, he didn't want to grind it and the taste to be negatively affected. He informed me that my friends can bring the coffee beans to Coffee Exchange and they can ground it for them. I appreciated that and he was very friendly. read more

There was a good amount of seating, but the location is super small so you are kind of sitting on top of the next party. I loved this coffee spot. The staff was friendly, I got a decaf coffee and it was phenomenal. It reminded me of Stumptown coffee, smooth and delicious. I sat outside on the back deck, sun shining, leaves falling, I was in my element. The place was busy around 10 ish on a Thursday morning, there's seating inside but the deck is where it's at. Their bathroom is so weird, it's behind the counter into their kitchen area. I mean, it's like the worst place for a bathroom because everyone waiting on line sees you going in and sees you going out, it's a super poor set up. The baristas knew us and our order, and it was always made extremely well. LOVE Coffee Exchange! Every single coffee i've had here has been great and the atmosphere is awesome. Coffee Exchange is a real staple on Wickenden St and really brings that local vibe. It's always pretty busy but they've got two floors of seating and it's a good spot to meet with friends or study/do work. Drinks are made pretty quick with quality.
