Greatest coffee shop I've ever been to. I lived in Providence for just over a year and went there every day with my girlfriend. The baristas knew us and our order, and it was always made extremely well. I've since moved a bit further away but just came back for the first time in 6 months and to my surprise they remembered us and knew our order right away. I recently came back to Coffee Exchange to purchase coffee for friends since I knew they really enjoy Coffee Exchange. Next to the order counter, there is a collection of Coffee Exchange's sustainably sourced, and freshly roasted, specialty coffee. A staff member welcomed me and asked how he could help. I informed him I was looking to purchase a pound of the Guatemala Chajul American Roast and Colombia Fudam American Roast. He asked if I wanted it to be grinded and I said yes. Then, he asked if it was for French press, chemex, espresso, or drip. Since I wasn't sure what brewing method my friends used, he asked if they lived locally and I said yes. Since different methods require different grind sizes to optimize extraction and flavor, he didn't want to grind it and the taste to be negatively affected. He informed me that my friends can bring the coffee beans to Coffee Exchange and they can ground it for them. I appreciated that and he was very friendly. read more

We came on a weekday morning around 11am, and every table was taken! Great ambiance, but definitely very busy with many people working on laptops. 4/5 Caramel Latte -- sustainably sourced house roasted beans, personally I expected a bit more roasty notes from the espresso. Visited Coffee Exchange on a Saturday morning, super packed! Luckily, the line moved fairly quickly and getting a Mocha Blanca didn't take too long. There was a good amount of seating, but the location is super small so you are kind of sitting on top of the next party. They have a good selection of coffee drinks and pastries, as well as a separate section to buy beans. I liked it, would definitely return to grab a coffee to go. read more

I loved this coffee spot. The staff was friendly, I got a decaf coffee and it was phenomenal. It reminded me of Stumptown coffee, smooth and delicious. I sat outside on the back deck, sun shining, leaves falling, I was in my element. The place was busy around 10 ish on a Thursday morning, there's seating inside but the deck is where it's at. Their bathroom is so weird, it's behind the counter into their kitchen area. I mean, it's like the worst place for a bathroom because everyone waiting on line sees you going in and sees you going out, it's a super poor set up. Ten years later. No bike racks. This is a bikeable city, it's an area that pulls in tourist dollars as well as serving the students and residents of the East Side. Bike racks make it easier for customers to park and shop. read more

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The ambiance is comfy, cozy - exactly what you'd want from a coffee shop. There is a parking lot behind the building that provides off street parking, and there is limited seating indoors because so many people love to come here and sit and stay. This is one of my husband's favorite place to get coffee (to drink and to get ground coffee to make at home). We have been multiple times before the pandemic and now after. Before, it was a busy place for people to sit, relax and visit...nice seating area indoors and outdoors...Now after the pandemic, it's pretty much a take out place. Still the quality of the coffee is top notch. As the story of this coffee shop goes, on January 1st of 1984, Mel, Rose, Charlie and Bill Fishbein, limping out of a financial disaster, opened Coffee Exchange in 375 square feet in the Fox Point neighborhood. Coffee Exchange sold coffee beans, coffee and tea paraphernalia, filters, mugs, and coffee makers. No brewed coffee was served until several years later when an old Eterna Espresso Machine was rescued from the junkyard and given a new life. The business was enhanced in 1991, when the store moved across the street to a place 20 times the size of the original location, and purchased their first small-batch 12k Diedrich coffee roaster. Today, we still love to get their ground coffee! read more

I've been there both to sit and get some work done, as well as to enjoy a drink with a friend while playing some cards. I don't drink coffee, so I always get the hot chocolate, which is so good here. First, this place is conveniently located on a strip with many options for food but also window shopping and India point park for a good walk before or after stopping here for a drink and/or snack. I'm not a huge coffee fan but I mostly came for their alternative options such as teas. I ended up getting the small iced chai (16 oz I think) for about $5 and it was delicious. It definitely had the signature chai taste but it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet which was good. I added some cinammon on top. I think they were also good with not adding too much ice. It took a few minutes to get our order but you can tell they were busy with previous orders because of the heavy traffic they get (which is a good thing, people must like their drinks). I also like how you can watch them make your drinks since it's an open "kitchen" environment. The inside is really nice, with plenty of seating and some window seats. They also offer fresh coffee beans to purchase by the pound, from a variety of difference countries and roasts. Parking is a bit tough since it can be a busy street but there are some side streets for more options. read more

Cute little coffee spot recommended by our friend. Apparently just opened back up, also have an upstairs seating area. Coffee was tasty, creamy. Been going with cortado's more lately. Sat and read on the kindle with the wife for a bit. The bathroom situation is awkward - it's behind the service counter, you have the go in between where you order drinks and the whole bean coffee counter, it feels like you're not supposed to go back there but lo and behold it's back there. It's awkward to line up - where is the line, are the people just in line for their drinks and not the bathroom, etc. Just a poor design for customers. Coffee exchange is hands down my favorite coffee shop in Rhode Island, potentially ever. I'm always a sucker for a good mocha, and I'm sensitive to caffeine so decaf espresso is usually a must for me! A lot of other decaf espresso drinks that I've tried end up compromising on the flavor, but not coffee exchange. It is delicious, consistent, fast, and so aromatic every time. The staff are always friendly, and there are two levels to the coffee shop filled with small tables that lend itself to the perfect place to meet up with a friend, read a book, or study. This is hands down the best coffee you can get. As a New England girly, I want an iced coffee all seasons of the year but making a decision on what to get here kills me every time I visit. Their hot coffees and espressos are gorgeous. They have you order and pick up on the porch (as of last time I went) and I actually love this simply because it was sooooo cramped before, I could never see the full menu and was overwhelmed by being squished with everyone inside. On the porch I can fully see what they offer and decide and then chill on one of the seats. Now that I'm no longer local, parking is the only thing that keeps me from coming every week. read more
