Great flavorful food. I went there twice. First time was on a weekday, the service was fantastic, and they were tentative. The second time was on a Saturday night and they were very busy. Not my first time here, another place was unexpectedly closed so this was a backup. Wasn't really in the mood for sushi so I went with the yakiudon. It was tasty, portion was good. And everything was to my liking. Thick udon noodles with a slight chew and tender chicken. Healthy amount of vegetables mixed in, tied together with a light and simple broth. Overall, nothing ground breaking here. Solid value at $14 so if you have some friends who want sushi but you don't or you're tight on cash, good option. My wife and I really enjoyed our experience at Nami. The night we went in I was a bitterly cold night in Providence. We had actually planned on going to a different restaurant, but it was closed without anything saying their hours had changed or they were on vacation. Nami was not too far from the other place and so we went there. I love the atmosphere and hip/classy feel to the dining room. The server was very friendly, but so soft spoken it was hard to hear him. I just really wanted some miso soup and some sushi, but many things looked great on their menu. One little bizarre thing was that it listed a Clam miso soup on the menu, but when I asked about he said they did have a vegetarian miso soup but it wasn't on the menu. He did tell me they were redoing the menu. The miso soup was really good. We ordered a variety of sushi, which was also very tasty. I found it a bit odd the way they did their rainbow roll, which rolled all the fish inside the roll instead of fish layered on top. Also, the crunchy veggies inside the rainbow roll didn't really go with the rest of the fish very well. The Christmas Tree roll was my favorite and was delicious! I have to mention an odd circumstance about parking in their lot. When I came out of the restaurant there was a car blocking us. Apparently, since it's a small lot they tell people you can block cars but you have to be willing to move it once a table is done and wants to go. Nami has some of the best food in Providence let alone sushi! We came pretty early on a chilly Friday night and had no issues finding a table. The restaurant itself is dimly lit but inviting and hosts a large bar. We were sat close to there. I enjoyed our waitress and the server she was training. They offered prompt and kind service. There was also a meal deal where you could order a selection of sushi rolls, appetizers, or classic rolls for a cheaper price. For my dinner I ordered the spicy scallop, Samurai, and salmon with mango. They also brought out spicy mayo and eel sauce for us. The sushi is fresh, the portions are generous, and the ingredients are high quality. I thought the prices were reasonable as well. This is definitely a gem among Italian restaurants and I highly recommend! Parking can be tricky but there are normally spots along side streets you can park at and walk over. read more

It's beautiful and comfortable inside of this sushi spot on Federal Hill. I've been coming to Nami for about a decade now and always know the food will be fresh and delicious. They have Sapporo on draft here! Always love a Sapporo with a hot sake! I've only ever had the sushi here so I can only speak to that, but it is fresh fish and the chef specialty rolls are worth the ~$18 price tag. Federal Hill can be tough when it comes to parking and most restaurants in this area will be a slightly higher price than I'd be comfortable going to on a regular basis. The staff here is friendly but has not always been this way over the years. Oh! This is also a nice date spot if you're a foodie and want to filter out any picky eaters! read more

Great omakase experience! We will definitely be back for special occasions! The chef explained each course really well, and we were met with flavors that were delicious and well balanced! It's always fun to watch the chef make each piece too! We had an additional server who was responsible for drinks and clean up, which made the whole process really smooth. The fish was also really fresh. The best quality sushi I've had in RI so far. There were also some types of fish I had never had before (even though I've done omakase in many places before), so it was great to have new experiences! You have to be willing to try any dish at an omakase experience! We also tried a few cocktails, which were delicious too! Nami was also very flexible with my reservation scheduling which I really appreciate. My husband and I had an unexpected free night the night before we were scheduled to attend the omakase experience, so we were really thankful they let us shift it up a night. Only downside is that the omakase experience is a little pricey, as expected. I will definitely reserve this for special occasions and for guests in town! Got here for an early dinner. Booth seatings next to the big tv for Sunday football was great. Came for sushi and sashimi mainly. First off, the green tea that they served was wonderful. Individual pot filled with loose green teas and roasted rice, and can be refilled! Love the strong tea flavor. Friendly chilled vibes here! The server was very nice. We had the omakasa platter to share and two other rolls and Ikura nigiri and toro sashimi. Omakasa platter: Nami maki was ok, too much sauce that was a bit overpowering. Spicy salmon was ok... I prefer the salmon not to be minced. Surprisingly, they gave you real crab meat in the selection. That was pretty nice. Fatty salmon nigiri was tasty! They have good oily texture and they were thick cut!! Yellowtail didn't have much taste to them here... Also I think the sashimi and fish pieces should be cooler temp. They tasted room temp which I thought was pretty weird. Scallop sashimi was the best tonight!!! Toro sashimi was only Chu toro not the fattest kind!!! Bummer! Yellowtail scallion maki was awesome! Chunky pieces of hamachi and the seaweed was crispy and fresh! Bathrooms are super clean! And the bar has tons of seatings! Also hibachi sections on the other side of the bar and sushi dining side. I've been frequenting this business for close to 7 years now (idk why I never took the time to review) and let's just say I choose this restaurant for my birthday dinner year after year. We take friends and family here from out of town and swear this is the best/freshest sushi in the state. Nami has remained so consistent with their food and service throughout time, including the pandemic. I often see the owner (Wendy?) working alongside her staff. A friend from Chicago explained to me about an omakase dining experience [omakase (Japanese: お任せ, Hepburn: o-makase) is a Japanese phrase, used when ordering food in restaurants, that means 'I'll leave it up to you' (from Japanese 'to entrust' (任せる, makaseru))]. I always wanted to try it but I didn't know of any restaurants in Rhode Island that offered this dining experience. Someone recommended checking out Nami on Federal Hill. $100 per person, 16-course tasting menu, reservations required. DONE & DONE! I booked it for our anniversary dinner. Came here on a Friday evening and there were only a few tables taken. We were seated quickly and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant looks very modern and spacious. We ordered the Nami Bowl for two. This has white rum, coconut rum, melon liqueur, blue curacao, orange juice, and pineapple juice. It was really good and it was a huge bowl. We started with the Harumaki which is fried shrimp spring roll filled with cabbage, shitake mushrooms, and wood ear mushrooms. Served with chili garlic sauce on the side. This was okay, not sure about ordering it again. I ordered the Sunshine dreamer which is shrimp tempura and avocado, topped with lobster salad and spicy mayonnaise. I made reservations for 7 PM on a Friday night for the Omakese (I leave it up to you the chef) Experience. We were brought to the sushi table where there were 8 seats set up around the chef. Our chef's station was a total party of seven who reserved the Omakese experience for the night. Most of the chef's choices were imported from Japan and some were from Hawaii. 1st - the squid, which was very tasty, popped in your mouth when you ate it. 2nd - Monkfish liver pate. I was a little scared at first, not going to lie, but it was great. 3rd - amazing piece of tuna with some truffle on top. Amazing! 2nd favorite 4th - Mackerel, which is usually fishy tasting, but wasn't with the garnish. 5th - Charred Japanese diver scallop. Amazing! 6th - Shrimp...delicious! 7th - Yellowfin Tuna...Very good! 8th - Charred Salmon Belly...the absolute best (melted in your mouth). 9th - Japanese Red Snapper...Very good! Touch of citrus. 10th - Uni (my least favorite) texture and flavor wasn't for me. 11th - Kobe beef with Uni....Fantastic!!!.. the Uni was fine with this pairing. 12th- Tuna with gold and caviar, tie for 3rd favorite 13th - Smoked Salmon (smoked from a cocktail smoker) Amazing! 3rd favorite. 14th - a hand wrap...very good 15th - Homemade Miso soup with clams 16th- Cheese cake, imported from Japan! OMG DELISH. We ordered ALOT of food and for the fact that we spent a little over 120 all together, the portions were very very generous. I'm originally from Boston but have heard a few good reviews about this place in RI so I had to try it out. The day we came without a reservation, we were told it would take a week in advance to book an omakase; so definitely keep that in mind. An omakase with 16 courses ranging around $100 each is almost unheard of. The price did not effect the quality of the food either. Attached are some pictures if my favorite dishes. I'm not sure if the courses are set already but everything I had was delicious, fresh, and flavorful. The cocktails were alright and the sake selection could have more of a variety but the food made up for all of that. I forgot our server's name but he was attentive throughout the whole dinner. I visited Nami last night for a late-night dinner. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant was dimly lit, and it had a super cozy vibe for a dinner date or small group outing. My boyfriend and I shared the Nami bowl for two for a drink, we almost didn't finish because the bowl was huge. We shared the Sashimi Mini Sampler, the Evil Angel, and the Samurai roll. The sampler was okay, I really only liked the salmon, which was super fresh. I really liked the Samurai roll, which is spicy scallop and avocado with yellowtail and jalapeno. We also ordered the Shrimp Hibachi with fried rice as well. The Hibachi was really good, should have asked for some yum yum sauce on the side. However, I wish it would've came with a noodle option instead of fried rice. I honestly really enjoyed my experience at Nami. Our server was really nice and patient. Parking is in the back. Food was ok. But note that for the sushi set for one, the "classic roll" included only refers to a FEW of the rolls in their entire classic roll menu - which they also don't specify. Since it just said "classic roll", we thought it was ok to pick anything from that menu and the waitress did not correct us OR mention that anything would come with an extra charge. When we got the bill and saw this, she was very quick to call the manager over (almost as if they expected that to happen...). Nami is my go to for sushi in Providence. I would never think to go to Federal Hill for sushi but don't let that stop you! They have a small parking lot but I usually park on Broadway and walk over. The inside is dimly lit but it's a big restaurant. There are booths and tables. I always start with the Lychee Martini. It is one of my favorite martinis in Rhode Island. The drinks are always strong and flavorful. I've tried a few different ones but I always go back to the Lychee Martini. Their menu is huge since they are a sushi and steakhouse. I'm tempted to try the whole menu but their sushi is just so good! I always get the special roll called the Passion Roll. It is eight huge pieces with spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, tobiko, tempura crunch, and wakame. I tried few appetizers and I really enjoy them. Takoyaki is a classic, but I wish they gave you more than five. Sushi Sandwich sounds unusual, but offers a great amount of spicy tuna. It's a sleeper hit! The Dragon Ball not only looks scanning, but it tastes amazing too! The mixture of the sauces really completes the dish. Thoroughly surprised by this Japanese gem off of Atwells. Went there tonight after a week of Italian and American food. The menu is packed with delish hot food and good variety of Cali rolls, sushi and sashimi. Really liked how you can order sashimi two pieces at a time. Also was blown away that they served blue fin tuna sashimi without the hefty price tag. Our server was super friendly and on top of it while the kitchen prepped our food quickly. We could taste the freshness in every piece on our sushi for 2 entree we ordered to share. We ordered a couple special rolls, pork buns, and an assorted sashimi appetizer. The rolls tasted great. Lots of fresh fish, good seasoning, not too sweet. Definitely recommend the Pink Lady roll for something fresh with salmon, and the Ichiban roll, which was warm and had soft-shell crab. The sashimi was delicious and very fresh. We came here for lunch on Saturday. The interior decor is impressive. A more higher end Japanese restaurant than what I was expecting. Placemats, cloth napkins, top shelf liquor and I spy a bottle of Caymus by the bar. The order came with 4 pieces of shrimp and a variety of asparagus, sweet potatoe and they even included broccoli for my daughter. The agedashi tofu was good - the sprinkling of sesame/seaweed on top was a nice touch. We also got spicy crunchy tuna roll, spider roll, eel/avocado roll and super white tuna. Everything tasted fresh. I thought the tuna roll could have been rolled a bit tighter as I was afraid the stuff was going to spill out. I also got the lychee martini. At first glance, I was worried that it was going to be too strong because it was 'clear'. When my friend makes lychee martinis, she uses lychee juice for added sweetness which causes it to look more cloudy. Nami's lychee martini was strong but delicious! Nami has Rhode Island's only omakase (chef's choice), and it overwhelmingly exceeded my expectations, so much so that I went to bed thinking about this sushi and woke up the next morning thinking about this sushi. To be honest with you, I had relatively low expectations for Providence omakase. I've been to Japan and didn't think Providence would be able to compare. But Nami blew my expectations out of the water. Boston Globe recently released an article about the omakase menu at Nami, and I just so happened to go with a friend the week the article was released. The beauty of omakase means that you don't know what the chef will serve you - it's the chef's choice. That means you could go back another week, and the menu would be different. For over 12 total courses (I imagine the number may change depending on the season), the $100 omakase menu was well worth every dollar. Omakase chef Stanley served us individually during our reservation. He had carefully curated a menu that honestly was a POEM. It started perfectly with tako (octopus) appetizer on a bed of edamame, and then followed with a gorgeous cold skipjack tuna (which bonito flakes are made from). The dishes were so balanced, with acidity and sweetness and savoriness and umami. The dishes were made in front of us as we watched the chef at his art. As the dishes progressed, we had bites like scorched scallop with caviar, the most melt-in-your-mouth salmon belly, halibut toro, tuna toro, unni, and wagyu beef. Pieces were torched in front of us, smoked in front of us, and presented in front of us. We made sure to eat ginger in between each bite to cleanse the palate. Some of these meats were imported from Japan itself. The meal wound down with a gorgeous charawashi (steamed egg dish). It was the perfect progression of a meal, and I was there for every taste, experience, and emotion of it. My heart and belly were so happy. I'm sending all my friends to get omakase from Nami. It's offered every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday, and you need to make reservations at least a week in advance to allow the chef to curate the menu. I've never gotten sushi from Nami before this, but the omakase was unbelievable. I couldn't believe Lil Rhody has this place to offer. read more

I had the shrimp shumai, hibachi shrimp, and wonton soup. The star of the show was the shumai. It was large, and exploding with flavor. I will stop by in the future just for that. The wonton soup was good, I could take it or leave it. The hibachi shrimp was great. The shrimp had a smokiness to them from the grill that added a nice touch to the dish. This 5 star goes out to the seriously delicious happy hour. Walking into Nami, the dark wood colored décor really creates that comforting atmosphere you look for in a Japanese restaurant. Grabbing a seat near the sushi bar, we were excited to try the menu. Calamari: Nami's not an Italian restaurant, but the batter wasn't too thick and the sweet chili dipping sauce was pretty bomb. Yaki Udon: Coated in the soy based sauce, the noodles really soak up the sauce and harmonize well with the fresh meat and vegetables. Rolls ($3 per roll): Depends on what type of roll you order, but in general the rice acidity is good and the overall freshness in taste is there. Chocolate Cake ($5): I know Japanese aren't known for desserts like chocolate cake, but this was seriously delicious. Topped with lightly melted ice cream, each bite is decadent and the consistency of the cake is like what you'd find in a fudge brownie. The third star for this review was the ambience, which is easily the best part of this restaurant. It is beautifully decorated and the mood is great for a date night or drinks. Let's talk about the food. I ordered a cocktail for two, an appetizer with octopus, and two sushi rolls. The cocktail was great and had plenty for the entirety of dinner with a date. The appetizer was basically inedible. After one bite, I quickly realized the octopus was very overcooked and rubbery to the point where it couldn't even be chewed, and the fried roll was almost tasteless. The Philadelphia roll tasted terrible and had extremely random proportions of salmon cream cheese and avocado in each slice. The avocado should have been thrown out a day ago. The rice was hard and old. The special sushi roll was so big it was impossible to eat, and the flavor was bland and just not appealing. Overall, this place doesn't value the quality of its food, which is a shame given the opportunity with its ambience and location. This is definitely a spot you go to for the vibe and drinks, since you are likely to end up next door having a nice Italian dinner without fear. read more

We ordered appetizers, sushi, ramen and the chicken teriyaki. The appetizers were delicious and they give you a great portion of food. For sushi we ordered one of the special rolls for the night and it was my favorite roll. The rolls were big and they all tasted very fresh and delicious. The ramen and chicken teriyaki were big portions and tasted delicious, we definitely had some leftovers!
