This place had amazing ramen! Honestly some of the best ramen I've had in a while. I found this place based on it being highly rated on Yelp and near the bar I was at for a work happy hour. I came in hungry and left satisfied! The staff was so nice as soon as I walked in. I wanted ramen and let the owner recommend his favorite. He recommended the short rib ramen and said the broth was very rich and the meat was very tender. That broth was fireeee. It was love at first bite. He wasn't lying! First time at Ebisu; went on a Saturday right before closing (around 9:30pm). There is a lot with free parking. We didn't make reservations; the place seems very casual. We were only table there, though a few people came to pick up food. We ordered a beer, hot tea, ramen nodded and some sushi. All came out very quickly. This was a convenient location to meet for dinner so that's how we ended up here. They have a parking lot and street parking. The staff is welcoming and there's plenty of tables. There's a pretty big menu and we ended up getting a bunch of tapas. They were all delicious. The fried shumai was delicious. The gyoza had great flavor and a nice sear. The chicken wings were tender with a great flavor (we got teriyaki). The Taiwanese pork belly bun was delightful. The baby back ribs were decent but to be honest I was so full by the time they came I only had one. They were definitely tender and a decent flavor. The yakitori was tender and flavorful. Came here for my 73rd dad's birthday recently so party of 6, and they took a reservation on short notice, accommodated us running behind and then provided outstanding food and service with a smile. The pork katsu was so crispy and flavorful. We got the spicy level 1 and it packed a punch but didn't make you breath fire - a good spicy level. The thing I love about Ebisu is that they have a build your own ramen. If you have friends or kids who are picky eaters this is a great way to get them to try ramen. The menu was extensive besides ramen. They had these delicious spicy chicken buns that i could've ate several more of and my go-to every time i visit... the Ebisu Tower. This is my 2nd time here. The first time was a much better experience. This time, albeit less impressive, still a good experience. The Korean pork belly was dry and not "melt in your mouth" smooth like the last time. It was probably not cooked long enough? The Tako yaki appetizer was creamy in the middle. My personal preference is to have the middle much firmer with some bounce when I chew on it. When it is creamy like that, I am not sure if it intentional, or just undercooked. I am not sure about everyone's preference but I like my pancakes without the runny undercooked middle. Don't you prefer fully cooked pancakes? I sort of feel the same way about my tako yaki - fully cooked in the middle. I don't want to be nit picky, but the noodles on the spicy katsu ramen was blah. What is this? It had the consistency of somen - thin white noodles for dipping, not firm ramen. It certainly did not feel like a typical ramen that I will find anywhere in Kyushu or Kansai area. The noodles for the Kyushu champon was better. The kind I would find in Nagasaki or other major cities in Kyushu. One awesome thing about this place, though, is that they have Japanese craft beer - Hitachino Nest. They carry a few different kinds. My fave is the Uzu infused lagar. Very very good. Overall, I think this place gets a 4.5 star for the selections and the craft beer. If they can get the noodles and some appetizers to come out consistently good, then I will come all the time. You can't get better noodles than directly imported Nishiyama Noddles from Sapporo, Japan that I find at Ganko Ittetsu Ramen on Thayer. If this place can do something similar or do better, then I am your fan. The quality of the noodles is one major component of the overall character of a bowl of ramen; then the broth and the toppings. The ramen that win competition has all three components just right. This place is a good approximation of ramen and Izakaya joint in Japan. read more

Having read a number of the reviews, I just had to try Ebisu. As we entered the doors, a lovely young woman smiled and directed us to our table. Within minutes, I thought she seems familiar... And lo and behold she had previously assistant us at a Japanese restaurant on Federal Hill. MINDA is great with Customer service!!! I had a high expectations regarding the food and my tastebuds conclude; this cozy spot is the best for small bites/Asian tapas! Oh, I tried the Hakka eggplant, chicken honey bun, pork bun, gyoza, & delicious ramen! Had my son with me and he tried the soft shell crab with ponzu sauce, and was thrilled with the flavors and crispy texture! We'll be back !!! read more

I really wanted to like this place but I ordered the tofu appetizer and build your own ramen.. the tofu was supposed to be in a "light soy" type of sauce, it tasted like water with 2 droplets of soy sauce.. and I typically love tofu, this literally tasted like water and unflavored tofu. The ramen I ordered, I added seafood, enoki mushrooms, fish cakes(2$) and squid(also an extra 2$ or so), there was at MOST, a small clump of 4 stands of emoji, a single fish cake the size of about a quarter, and squid slices that would make up maybe another quarter.. I cannot believe that for the price of 20$, I basically got some half flavored miso broth and a spitting of seafood. Overall, not worth it, drive an extra 10 minutes to Providence for some ramen. I really wanted to like this place. It seemed clean on the inside and I'm sure there are things on the menu that are decent but as for the tofu appetizer and ramen, please do better. If you can get a full sleeve/handful of enoki mushrooms for maybe 2.50$ at the Asian market down the street, you can throw more than a few strands in a bowl that costs a base of 18$. read more

Wow! On the road home from the Cape Sunday night and hungry. Stopped into Ebisu because it was the highest yelp eating around and still open. WOW! Amazing authentic Japanese ramen. So good we ordered 2 to go. Their broths are amazingly rich and full of flavor. We tried the miso and chicken there and the 30 hr pork to go. Generous portion and fresh ingredients. Straight up 5 stars on the food. Decor was drab, only negative, but that's not why we were there. And we will def stop in again, even if only togo as we drive up and back a lot. I ordered some udon noodles, my husband went to pick it and was super impressed with their ramen selection as well. He mentioned going back to try himself. I cannot comment of their service because this was a take out order. But, the noodles I got; my husband ended up eating them and I had a can of soup. It was noodles in sauce. A thick heavy sauce. Over the phone, I asked if udon comes in a broth. They said yes. That's what I ordered...I thought. My husband came through the door with a frown, apologizing. My friend told me about Ebisu and how the restaurant had many dishes to try so I went for it. I probably over ordered and that is okay. Very clean restaurant with your standard interior with bar seating as an option. I tried their sushi rolls, ramen with pork, and katsu chicken with curry and white rice. Sushi was fresh and delicious. The ramen broth was really savory and I enjoyed the noodles to be a little more broken. Pork had a great sear flavor. The highlight for me would be the fried katsu with curry. White rice obviously helps and the chicken crunch with the curry hit all the right spots. Custom Ramen?! DOWNSIES!! Winter up here can be brutal so a hot steeping bowl of flavorful broth loaded with your choice of noodles and fillings sure hits the spot in more ways than one. As soon as we walked in, the service was impeccable. I ordered some edamame to start me off while I browsed the menu and that's when I realized they had a custom ramen option which enhanced my dining experience with panache. The prices were extremely attractive and the portions were hefty making this noodle spot make you want to send your "noods" to all. I enjoyed a serving of hot sake alongside my meals and thanked my food sense of direction for landing me at this location. Currently, my favorite ramen spot in RI. I could eat their spicy honey chicken buns once a day and never get sick of them. They also have a make your own ramen, which I need to try next time. They have another location in Providence that I've heard is just as good, if not better. The service is always fantastic and the ramen is always steaming and delicious. After other local ramen spots have fallen short of my expectations or even closed their doors, Ebisu has never let me down. It's less pretentious and fancy than some other ramen spots, but I've found their food to be way better than those other places. We are huge fans of Ebisu from their original location. After trying almost literally every bowl of ramen the state of RI has to offer, we have decided the Ebisu has the best solely based on their super long simmered, rich and flavorful ramen broth. We adore Ebisu's make your own ramen as well as their miso doughnut dessert, which is just mind blowingly delicious. This Ebisu was right on the mark with their ramen topped with flavorful and well cooked toppings and that slow simmered broth, just like the flagship restaurant. We also ordered the potstickers, and they were well cooked and sitting in a perfectly vinegary and soy dressed sauce. This location is a little brighter inside, with freshly painted walls, and smells like a newly turned over dining room. The guy that waited on us last night here, was so friendly, he really added to the positive experience we already were having here. Prob should've known better than to come on Valentines Day to try this place out. We didn't want a full dinner, so figured a few small plates would work out. There is parking lot, so that's already a plus! We figured it wasn't a fru fru upscale place so we would be able to get seated quickly - we were mistakenly WRONG! The place was jammed and the kitchen was so backed up, they wouldn't even seat us for 20-25 mins. We decided to just wait it out. As we waited - we could hear the hustle and bustle of the entire restaurant staff. It was popping! We were finally seated about 30 mins later but were warned we wouldn't get food until another 25 mins later as all other patrons were still waiting as well. We said ok - ordered drinks and our food and waited patiently. We got our drinks pretty quickly and one of our food orders (Spicy Honey Chicken Bun) but the rest of our food - we waited and waited and waited. The drinks were just ok but the Chicken bun was delicious. The bao bun was warm and fluffy and stamped with the restaurant's name (cute touch for those drunkards who might forget where they are during the night). The chicken was juicy and the sauce was perfect mix of spicy and sweet - we were anticipating the rest of our meal.... Sometime after the wait, all of our food came flying through. Brussels sprouts, pork belly bun, crispy calamari (with a yummy mango chili sauce), beef tongue and the Tsubai Maki Roll. I have to say, the food was very worth the wait. Everything was delicious. I typically don't like raw sushi (sue me), but this one was really good - flavors worked perfectly together. Although it was 2 hours from the moment we walked into the place until we paid - the waitstaff was so incredibly sweet. They repeatedly came by to apologize and thanked us for our patience as they had not expected this sort of business for the day. They had just opened and had been slow for the week so the unexpected traffic threw them off completely. To top it off, they kindly offered us a complimentary order of that yummilicious spicy chicken bun we started with. Great customer service truly goes a long way. We are excited to go back and try their other options, particularly their Ramen (they have a build your own ramen option!). I love this place. LOVE LOVE LOVE! Restaurant is spotless, and has a cute ramen vibe. The service is quick and everyone is super nice. Now the food - SO GOOD! I tried Spicy Miso Ramen, Miso Ramen, Nagasaki Ramen, Spicy Pork Katsu Ramen (Level 2) and Sapporo Ramen - so I have been around...haha. My favorite is Spicy Miso and then Spicy Katsu but they are all good. That soft boil egg is cooked to perfection. The sushi is so fresh. As for appetizers, I would recommend Hekka Eggplant and the chicken wings (so so crispy - love the miso sauce). Tako Yaki was ok. It was good but I've just had better. The Geso (squid) was chewy and the serving was TINYYYYY - so I recommend you skip that one. Spicy Honey Chicken Bun was ok - I wouldn't order it again but makes me wanna try the pork belly version. I go there for the ramen mostly - it is better than any other ramen I have had in Providence. My only negative comment is that their hot oil is not very good. It's not very spicy or flavorful.
