    potato salad
    Neha N.

Food was amazing, the potato salad was done so well, the sushi and sashimi were all generous portions and incredibly fresh, and the staff were all very kind. It's a small cozy restaurant on Newbury with all hand written menus and a very authentic feel. Recommend going for their all you can eat or à la carte, some of the freshest and best sushi in Boston!

Ambiance is very clean, dim, and classy. Staff is friendly and efficient. We got the bosso signature maki with tuna, the nigiri sampler, and the uni udon. The bosso signature maki was great! Lots of flavor and very yummy. Overall a bit pricey for what it is, but still an enjoyable meal.

AYCE sushi (6 salmon nigiri, yellowtail maki, 2 ground tuna, marinated tuna nigiri, 2 sea bream nigiri)

This was such a disappointment. They offer AYCE sushi only on Sunday afternoons (1 PM-6 PM), and I absolutely would not recommend. It's $49 per person and several items are at additional cost, such as an extra $3 per piece of unagi (eel). There are other sushi spots that are much more worth your time. When new customers arrive, the staff loudly announce their entrance. It feels like an attempt to replicate Yume Wo Katare's signature moves, but ends up creating an incredibly disruptive ambiance because customers aren't all seated together. It definitely cuts into your enjoyment of your meal and feels out of place. The AYCE menu is mostly nigiri with a handful of maki options, and it shows - the quality of the fish would never stand on its own as sashimi. In fact, most of the cuts of fish are less than ideal. My top preferences were the salmon and yellowtail, but the tuna was mediocre enough to be unconvincing to someone who really loves tuna cuts. Even more intriguing was the rice in the nigiri - while tasty, it was poorly formed, often falling apart as soon as you lift the nigiri from the plate. For someone who frequently eats sushi/nigiri, I was shocked that the quality of the preparation was consistently so poor, across multiple orders. The one redeeming quality was the service. For a restaurant that limits you to ordering only 6 pieces per round (probably to limit how much you can eat in one seating that is limited to 70 minutes), our server was pretty good at staying accessible so you could put in the order for your next round. I highly recommend either spending a little more for an omakase experience (Akami), or getting AYCE for cheaper (Yamato II).

We came in on Mother's Day , trying to spend quality time with my children, good ambition environment, fresh food ingredients, friendly service, just a little pricy . I would come back for special occasions.

People need to stop sleeping on this spot and give it a go. I've been to Japan a few times and have had some of the best sushi omakase meals but around Boston...nothing great. This spot is incredible and I'd love to come back. We had: Bosso's Omakase Nigiri (such good variety) Standard Tokyo Nigiri ( great!) Chicken karaage (good) Black cod with miso (so good)

Sushi by Bosso did not come to play. The 13 piece Bosso's Omakase Nigiri had me questioning all my life choices (in a good way). Every piece felt like the chef was personally trying to ruin all other sushi for me. From buttery toro to briny uni to that perfectly torched eel; each bite hit like a plot twist I didn't see coming nor want to end. The Black Cod with Miso? Cod bless this sushi joint, the dish was absolutely unreal. Sweet, caramelized glaze on the outside, and inside it was fall-apart tender, buttery, and straight up addictive. Like if dessert and dinner had a baby and it went to culinary school. We went at 5pm in the middle of the week, so it was easy for us to grab a patio table without any reservation. The vibe changes towards night time from chill to a more fun and intimate environment. This is a sign for you to go try them out! TL;DR: I'm emotionally attached to this meal.

This place opened around the same time as sakabayashi, another sushi spot in Newbury/Copley. It would be easy to pass by with the shops stacked on top of each other along Newbury. The inside is dim like a lantern lit experience. The menu is handwritten, which I've never seen before, so it gave a personal touch to it. I was here for sushi and sushi only so I went with one of the sushi sets. Sadly, the quality of the fish did not align with what I was expecting. A lot of the places put wasabi between the rice and fish but the amount they put in my option overpowered the flavor of the sushi. I was very curious about the dark miso soup so I got it and that was extremely salty, I couldn't finish it. We also got the potato salad which looked like a goofy goober sundae and had some curry on top. They were nice enough to give us sushi and dessert free of charge which was a kind gesture on their part as they saw I was taking pictures of my food. They were also very accommodating for my friend who had a shellfish allergy in working on how they can tweak the sushi set she ordered. My favorite thing was the ice cream. You put a hojicha sauce on top which just felt like putting oil on it so I was confused but it gave an extra flavor to the ice cream which was already very rich. Not sure if the mochi was made in house but that was really delicious. Also random but I love a nice bathroom and their bathroom was small and petite but has a sliding door which I loved.Interesting new spot in Newbury but the food didn't hit like I thought it would. What a rare and incredible sushi experience on Newbury! I love the focus on nigiri's and sashimi's because it really brings out the quality of the fish! The miso salmon was top tier, but the wagyu skewers were sadly overcooked. I loved that we got to sit in the patio (go before it gets cold!!) This is such a staple sushi restaurant and I definitely will be back

    Omakase Nigiri Set
    Winni Z.

The restaurant location is unassuming on Newbury Street, but I love the blend of coziness and chaos once you step through the doors. The service was excellent, and our waiter was friendly and funny. This might not be the best place for a work meal (at least not during the Friday dinner rush), but it is a great place to catch up with the girlies! When it came to the food, I can't say I was impressed by everything we ordered. I was not impressed by the nigiri I tried from the omakase set--it felt mushy and slightly too fishy. That said, I thought the consistency of the rice was great, and it was the perfect amount. I found that the black cod got very heavy very quickly, so you may want to split it with others. I see why the potato salad is the staff recommendation--it was a perfect mix of creaminess and crunchiness, and it was definitely my favorite item we tried that night! Otherwise, it's hard to go wrong with the chicken karaage. For drinks, my friends ordered an Aviation (which they described as lemon-forward and refreshing) and a matcha drink (which they described as tasting like an espresso martini with chocolate and a sprinkle of matcha on top).

One of our fav sushi places in Boston! Service was very polite and the place felt very homey yet upscale. My favorite was their mackerel pressed sushi -- seriously addicting! Their omakase set was also a good way to try each type of nigiri. Really great high quality fish. Their dessert was also amazing! Definitely will be coming back again.

This was a really good experience! The restaurant is dark. The servers/waiters are super sweet and nice. They were super helpful with the menu. We had a reservation for 8:15pm, but they were accommodating with seating us earlier at the bar. There were 4 of us. We ordered the daimyo jumbo maki, fatty tuna maki, bosso's nigiri and signature sashimi plate. The miso soup was a dark brown rather than the typical lighter miso color. The fish was all fresh and of high quality. Everything was tasty. The makis were the best part of the meal!

    Reika H.

I've been to this restaurant twice now and tried their omakase menu as well as their Sunday all you can eat nigiri deal. Both times I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish as well as the generous fish to rice ratio of their nigiri. Many all you can eat sushi places like to pack a lot of rice in their nigiri but Bosso does not do that and they make sure to present the fish as the main star of the show. We also ordered their matcha espresso martini which was very delicious! The staff are very friendly and accommodating and welcome every single customer that walks in. Would definitely go back again especially for their Sunday all you can eat menu!

Beautiful interior with sake bottles adorning the shelves and relatively quiet when we went. Our server was friendly and, in true Japanese fashion, announced our arrival to the kitchen who shouted in acknowledgment. Although we stuck to the safer basics on the menu, including the sushi and black miso cod, each dish was done well and for a reasonable price. The sushi was fresh and flavorful and we ordered hot sake to pair with our meal. I recommend the mackerel pressed sushi which was satisfying, and reasonably priced as an appetizer. One thing I disliked was the fact that they charge $5 for a bowl of white rice (which we ordered to pair with the black miso cod). That is an unreasonably high price, and was a glaringly stark difference compared to the other menu prices. I hope they consider adjusting that to $3.50 or $4.00 (at most) moving forward.

I am always surprised at how full I am when I leave! I'm stuffed every time. There is complementary miso soup with all of the bowls I've tried, outlined below. I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Each fish comes with two pieces (except the mackerel for which there are four), and I liked the sampler style for the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and izumidai. - Maguro Toro Don: so much tuna! And all such high quality. The otoro was so fatty that it practically melted in my mouth without chewing. - Sake Maguro Hamachi Don: a mix of salmon, blue fin tuna, and yellowtail. I liked the yellowtail in this a lot and found that it stood out the most from the other two fish in this particular bowl!

The second time I went back, I ordered take out so I could eat it at the airport for dinner. I ordered the Sake Maguro Hamachi don, added ikura and negitoro. Again, so impressed with the quality of the fish and the size of it. They didn't skimp out and really enjoyed the thickness of the sashimi despite it only being 3 pieces. It was a very satiating bowl. Cant wait to come back next time again!

Whether you're here for high-end sushi, creative small plates, or comforting kitchen dishes, everything is executed at a very high level. We ordered a massive spread, and almost every single dish was a hit. The Raw Bar & Sushi: * Oysters: These were 10/10. Incredibly fresh, perfectly halved, and meticulously cleaned--not a single piece of shell in sight. We loved them so much we had to go for a second round. * 8pc Omakase & 6pc Aburi Set: Both sets were fantastic. The Aburi (torched) set is a must-try for that smoky melt-in-your-mouth texture. * Uni Nigiri: Even my wife, who usually avoids raw fish, was won over by how creamy and fresh the Uni was. * Tuna Tataki: This was the only "just okay" dish for me. It had good flavor, but I think it would have been elevated with some shredded daikon and a colder temperature. Kitchen & Family Favorites: * Foie Gras Appetizer: Rich, decadent, and a perfect way to start the meal. * Sea Bass: My son absolutely loved this; he finished the entire portion with rice. * Snow Crab Roll: An excellent option for those who prefer cooked rolls. * Tonkotsu Ramen: We finished off the meal with a hot bowl of ramen, which was the perfect savory "topper" to a great dinner. The Experience: The service is efficient and the wait times for food were surprisingly short given how much we ordered. One of the biggest takeaways was the value. The pricing is very fair for this level of quality; back home in Nashville, a meal like this would have easily cost significantly more. The Verdict: While I would love to see a few more small, refreshing salad dishes on the menu to balance out the richness, I left extremely happy. This is a top-tier dining experience and a definite "must-visit" whenever I'm back in town!

XO Seafood Udon: The restaurant specifically labeled it "wok-tossed," and it truly had a wonderful wok-hei鑊氣 (wok aroma), with an irresistible fragrance as soon as it arrived at the table. The shrimp, in particular, were coated with a thin layer of starch before being pan-fried, adding layers of texture and locking in the juices. When I made the reservation online I put that the occasion it was for was my birthday- I notice that most restaurants don't pay attention to this on OpenTable, but Fuji definitely did! We were seated quickly and with no issue at all, despite it being pretty crowded. The vibe was intimate and classy- a great spot for date night, or for dinner with your parents. At our table was a card (in the pictures) which was such a nice touch and was a great start to the meal. Our waitress was awesome, and it seemed like there was a floor manager too that was making sure everyone was happy. It felt like the staff truly cared and wanted to make sure everyone was having a good time and experience. Our waitress checked in on us multiple times, and was very helpful with the menu. Speaking of the menu, I was very pleased to see the amount of vegetarian dishes! You don't see that often at Japanese restaurants! For our appetizers we got the lobster Rangoon and spicy edamame. Technically the tofu is an app but you would never guess that from the portion size. The edamame were outstanding! They were spicy as expected and were so tasty. We demolished the whole bowl. The Rangoons were also amazing- the chunks of lobster were divine. I myself love lobster and crab Rangoons, so a combo?! Amazing. Both the edamame and lobster Rangoons are can't misses. For our entrees/ mains we got the crispy soy noodles, miss Waldorf roll, sweet potato roll, tofu, and fried rice. The miss Waldorf roll is amazing, and I can not wait to go back and get more sushi. Truly the best sushi I have had in boston. There are other upscale sushi restaurants I have been to that charge a pretty penny but taste like grocery store sushi. Fuji is not one of those- it was truly exceptional sushi. The sweet potato roll was also delicious! I am very picky about my sweet potato rolls and had one that I have dreamt about since I had it in 2022. I have finally found a sweet potato roll that matches my standards. The crispy soy noodles were also amazing! They reminded e of one of my favorite restaurants when I was a kid and it filled me with such joy to eat something with that flavor. The serving size was pretty big too, and they were not shy on the shrimp! Note though, they were a tad oily (I added a little bit of soy sauce to balance it out). The fried rice was also very good and tasted like a good bowl of comfort fried rice. My parents ate it with the tofu and liked it! The only dish I would want some change in is the tofu- it wasn't bad but compared to the other dishes it definitely lacked the flavor punch you get in the rest of the dishes. The sauce was okay with it. After dinner our waitress brought a slice of vanilla crepe cake and ice cream! This was such a nice touch and it was SO good!!!!! It was the first time I ever had crepe cake but I loved it! I'm not sure if they have a dessert menu or not (we weren't asked if we wanted to see one) but I would love to go back and get that cake again! Overall I am beyond happy that I picked this spot for my birthday- I had an amazing experience and amazing food. Will definitely be back!

When we walked into Legal, the place was dead, the music was awful, and the vibe was just not there. Shojo in Chinatown came up with great reviews and after looking at the menu and seeing that we could get a reservation, we headed over. It was a short walk from the Ritz and Chinatown is just such a fun place with great energy. When we walked in, we knew we had made the right call and were easily able to switch our reservation from a table to bar seats, which is always an added bonus. The place is low lit and the music is on the louder side, but nothing was excessive to the point that we didn't enjoy our time there. We ordered a variety of drinks while there - a Toki Highball draft, a spicy tequila drink with lemongrass, a few different types of Japanese whiskeys as well (they have a really extensive list). As far as food goes, they categorize their menu into Snacks, Baos, and Rice, Noodles, and Dumplings. There's a lot of vegetarian friendly options, which is always a plus for me. My highlights were the 7 vegetable stir fry, fried eggplant bao, edamame dumplings, and the Thai veggie spring rolls. The salt and pepper calamari was also really great. Everything was terrific and really unique. Service was good - not great, but they took notice of empty glasses and were quick to bring out food, so I have absolutely no complaints. Shojo is somewhere I'd absolutely return to when staying in the area, I'm really happy we all turned what would have been a very touristy, depressing experience into something with a WAY better vibe and time!

We also got the Sichuan Ribeye Bao which was good but felt too dry - could have used some type of sauce! The environment was fun.
