Date: 01/30/2022 I'm no Vietnamese Cuisine connoisseur, but I am confident in my taste buds and Super Pho - Waialae has now become my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. I've been introduced to pho in 2015 and tried countless restaurants since then from Las Vegas Nevada, Denver Colorado, Los Angeles California, Toronto Canada, Copenhagen Denmark, and of course Oahu Hawai'i. My go-to dishes are combination beef pho and spring rolls, and Super Pho - Waialae takes the #1 seat for both in my list. Their pho broth is so light yet so flavorful--the balance of spices is just so perfect that it will win over your tastebuds instantly. What made their spring rolls the best were the vermicelli and chili pepper paste. The chili pepper paste itself was a game changer--it was pretty tasty and it had a really nice kick. The vermicelli was not plain vermicelli where the noodles would stick to each other making it inconvenient to pull apart, but instead was nicely coated with some liquid that could be fish sauce. Whatever it is though added flavor to the vermicelli. I've never had spring rolls like this before, this is not your typical spring rolls, Super Pho - Waialae went over and beyond. For the first time ever I went to the same Vietnamese restaurant two days in a row. This second time I went, I've switched it up a bit and got oxtail soup and spring rolls. The oxtail soup was amazing. Just like the pho broth, it was very light yet very flavorful. I don't know if the broth contained high amount of spices, but whether there was a lot or not a lot, the meat flavor peaked. The meat was so tender, and the napa cabbage was cooked just enough for it to have nice soft, yet crunchy texture. I'm more of a soup person myself when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine, but after these two experiences I'm curious and excited to see how great their other dishes are! read more

Sometimes you can't trust some of these Yelp hipsters who don't know real Vietnamese food. 1) the only Vietnamese restaurant I know of on Oahu that serves 7 course beef. I don't like to write one star reviews. There is usually a redeeming quality, that will bring a rating up to a two star. Not today. We have been coming to this place for at least 5 years. Love the papaya salad. Full and tasty, loaded with goodness. Mama San always takes care of my hubby, who loves extra cilantro, peanuts, and veggies. Prices have increased about 20 percent, understandable in these crazy times. We support local business, and have ordered take out multiple times during Covid. I called tonight to order a take out, and asked for a rice plate with garlic chicken, spring rolls, papaya salad, and 2 bahn mi sandwiches. The guy who answered the phone was unsure if they had garlic chicken with rice. I said multiple times, I want a rice plate- then he said he had lemongrass chicken. He asked someone in the back, and then said ok he has garlic chicken but only with fried rice. I asked him again, what, no rice plate with garlic chicken? He said, he has garlic chicken but with fried rice. I'm like ok, whatever my daughter wants garlic chicken, she'll get it with fried rice instead. I asked him to repeat my order, and he said fried rice with garlic chicken. Done. Paid $70 plus dollars for our meal, pick up my daughter from work and go home to eat. Get home, open up our food and find a fried rice plate with bits of chicken skin. No garlic chicken plate. I called them back to voice my disappointment, we were missing our garlic chicken from our fried rice garlic chicken plate. The guy that answered, seemed pretty apologetic- took my name and number and said they would credit me for the garlic chicken plate the next time we went in. It was late, we were tired and was just about to start eating when my phone rang. It was the same guy, and he said oh, I spoke to the chef, and he said he added the garlic chicken in the plate. Omg. I said really? Forget it. Im coming back in and bringing the plate back. You're actually calling me back to tell me I'm lying about the chicken? I don't want any of the food anymore. He said ok, fine, talk to the owner. I went back in, brought everything back and asked for a refund. He cut me off, saying he was there when the "new guy" answered the phone, and took my order for a "Fried rice with garlic chicken" I said no, that IS NOT what I ordered. I ordered a rice plate with garlic chicken. The guy said they don't have rice plate with garlic chicken. They have rice plate with lemon chicken. Then came back and said yes ok they have fried rice with garlic chicken. Maybe the language barrier is to blame. I did ask him to repeat my order. I did not want a fried rice with small bits of chicken skin. I felt I made myself pretty clear when ordering. They don't even have fried rice with garlic chicken on their menu. They do have under their rice plate section: Lemon or garlic chicken. Which is white rice, chicken and vegetables. Maybe I could have ordered by the corresponding number, but the last time they didn't update the menu and there was a different mix up. Bottom line is the guy pulled a super bad and sassy attitude, mama came out and said he was wrong and he still wouldn't refund my money. He said no. She said yes. They started arguing and he grabbed my plate and slammed it in the trash. Finally got my money back, and I will never spend another dime here. Thanks to the worker who ruined it for me. read more

Wow! How horrible was the service here??? I cannot believe how long we had waited for our food. I usually go up the road, but since I been fasting past 48 hours prior surgery I just been hangry AF. Like anything, I understand if you are short staffed. I get it but damn 2 people for all 4 sections. Come on man? I was feeling like having a sandwich,a veggie sandwich so I thought of a Bahn mi. I was in Kaimuki so I yelped around and I came upon this place, parking was right in front which makes me think maybe it's meant to be.... so I went and ordered me the BBQ chicken with pate bánh mì, extra veggies add jalapeños, please!!!! I was so happy the bread came out crunchy on the outside warm soft on the inside the chicken was so tender and juicy. The pate was fresh pink not grey and gamey, very delicious and the vegetables aplenty I was so happy. Haven't had a sandwich like that in a very long time you guys gotta try it. It was a cold & rainy night...........does it sound like one of the Snoopy cartoons? Oh, wait...........I think they said "it was a dark & stormy night?" Lol! Never mind........going off track here! Monday night was a cold and rainy night, & pops wanted pho for dinner. We normally go to our favorite hole-in-the-wall joint in the Moiliili neighborhood (Pho Nina), but when we got there, they were closed for renovations, so we had to look for another place to go for pho. That's how we ended up at Super Pho in Kaimuki...........just across the street from the Kaimuki Park, or just next door from a 7-Eleven. There is parking available in a private parking lot, but there are not too many stalls available. Lucky for us when we got there, we were able to find a parking stall, as there were two open stalls available when we got there. Upon walking into the restaurant, we were greeted right away, and the worker told us to sit down at any open table. After getting seated, we had to wait quite sometime before someone actually came by to drop off some water, menus, & eating utensils. Shortly after, a grumpy waitress (an elderly Asian lady with blonde hair) came by to take our order.........I could tell the service was not too friendly here, not sure if she was having a bad day or what? On the bright side, after placing our food orders - pops got the combination pho, & I got the chicken pho...........our meals came out really fast. What can I say about the grub? Now, I'm not an expert about Vietnamese pho, but I can tell you I've eaten more than my share of pho through the years. Overall the pho wasn't very good, as it was extremely salty! Pops noticed this first hand and mentioned it to me..........upon tasting his pho, I could confirm my pops finding, then I dug into my pho, and I could tell that the broth either used a lot of MSG, or something else to make it real salty. What I did like about this place is that they provided a lot of veggies for the pho. I guess we were kinda spoiled, as our favorite pho joint makes a very flavorful pho broth. We tried to finish what we could, then left the joint. Food prices here were pretty comparable to the other Pho Restaurants I've been to. Super Pho apparently has (3) restaurant locations - one in Chinatown on N, Pauahi Street, another location at the Ala Moana Shopping Center, and of course the location in Kaimuki town. So this is my second time here. Last time I was here was awhile ago and we just ordered the typical pho. I'm kind of an adventurous eater so when my friend mentioned authentic, I immediately agreed. It looks like any typical pho restaurant. the workers there were Friendly. The bathroom tho was located outside. I didnt like that but atleast they had one. So? My friend ordered the food for us. The first part of it was the beef salad which was so delicious! Then they brought out the big tray with fixings to make a wrap with 5 different types of beef cooked in various ways. It came with a sauce and rice paper. Omg It was so delicious! Just keep in mind you're gonna have to use your hands. Then came the beef fondue which is kinda like shabu shabu. The broth it was to be cooked in was a pineappleish taste but it was good. And lastly they brought out a porridge to top off the meal. You can order more of noodles or veggies etc for a small cost. Wanted a quick meal and it was a cold night. Son had a basketball right across the restaurant, at Kaimuki Gym and as we scoped around the area, we found a brightly lit pho restaurant! It was pretty packed, when we first parked, but after 5 minutes, it quickly cleared out. It was about 7:30pm. We got seated right away. There was a cute little corner table. My husband ordered the Pig Feet Pho & I got the meatball pho. We usually like to taste the broth before we spice it up. The Pig Feet Pho had a flavorful garlicky taste. It was sooo good! It really didn't need anything! My meatball pho was also delicious. I love spice, so in no time, it was filled with sriracha, hoisin, & their house garlic sauce. They gave a lot of vegetables, including scallions! I've never seen scallions before & it was a nice change. Very refreshing with lots of veggies. My only gripe is that I thought it was a little pricey for pho. Two bowls of pho came out to $36 ($29+$6 tip). A little to steep for my pocket for pho, but at least we tried it and it was still yummy! read more

Decided to have dinner here with my girlfriend and her mom. First of all, great ambiance for a casual dinner. I was startled when a large gecko jumped onto my shirt, and it gave the employees a good laugh. Later, the AC condensation wet my hair, but they kindly moved us to a new table. Food was pretty good. Joined Mum for lunch at this hidden gem up by 9th/10th Ave. Very clean and obviously a family owned business. Middle of the week and it was unusually not busy, yet there was just a handful of private parking spaces on premise. Street metered parking would be your best bet along a busy Waialae. Waitress and Mamma Chef were both absolutely friendly! We ordered the 7 Beef course for 2 ppl and it was way more than enough food for us. Loaded with lots of veggies/fresh herbs and beef prepared 7 different was that also included a beef salad, a beef porridge dish, and 5 other different beef dishes that were part of our rice paper meal. So very filling and they were both generous/accommodating with service and extra condiments upon requests. A lunch meal for under $40 which was well worth it. Stop in and enjoy a meal here. One of the most authentic style Vietnamese restaurants on O'ahu. They have WAY more than just Pho - in fact they have one of the more extensive menus around too. Try the Mi Quang Noodle Soup (Quang Nam's Styled Noodle Soup), and the Banh Canh Cua (Udon noodles (tapioca) w Crab Meat and Shrimp) - this is the only place you can get this dish. For something simple I get the Bun (vermicelli noodle bowls) w chicken and egg roll, the bbq pork is good too - this is very good for takeout. We decided to try out this place since our usually pho spot was closed. This pho place isn't to bad. For parking, I'm not to sure where else you can park besides on the street. The summer rolls where okay, I guess not how I really expected, the sauce though...usually I like the peanuts crushed or usually they are smaller pieces but for some reason they were like snack size bites. The pho, THEY GAVE A LOT. I'm surprised at the amount of noddles they gave! That's definitely a plus! And for the amount wasn't to bad $11.99. Will definitely come back! First thing I noticed walking in is that it is CLEAN! Decorated nicely, not too much and pretty spacious. We were greeted instantly. The area we were seated at had a table across and they had this curtain that goes in between for privacy. There is also a call button on the table for service. Our server was nice, asked if we had any questions and checked up on us during the meal. The menu has alot of selections! It's not your typical pho place. They have different types of noodle choices, soups, hot pot choices, etc. I ordered the beef combination pho. It was huge! I did not finish it! So don't come here if you don't really have an appetite. Their tendon is the best ive had! It melts in your mouth! Brisket was soft. Broth is flavorful and CLEAN! They give you a ramekin with all the sauces. So you might wanna request to not have some of the sauces if you dont like spicy. We drank complimentary water, and it's filtered! When your Vietnamese Yelp friend asks you to lunch at her favorite Vietnamese restaurant do not hesitate, just say I'm in! I did and I got to try so many wonderful things I would not have tried if I had vacillated with my response. I seem to be driving further from my normal stomping ground lately and it's a good thing as I'm trying new places and some great food. Super Pho is one of those new places for me. I've eaten Pho numerous times but what I had wasn't Pho. Lien asked if we were game to try the 7-course Beef meal. Yeah! One of my favorite things.....seven of them. The #144 is for two, there were three of us and thank heavens one of them was Lien because that girl can carry her share at the dinner table. We ordered the Summer Rolls just because we all love them, standard rolls, delivered with the standard sauce. First course: Lemon Beef Salad. Thin slices of raw beef, thinly sliced onions and lettuce with fresh squeezed lemon along with the seasonings making this an absolute winner. The lemon "cooked" the beef ala cerveche style. Next a huge platter with the requisite mint, basil, bean sprouts, vermicelli, rice paper rounds and a bowl of nearly boiling water. Lien quickly added cold water explaining if the water is too hot the rice paper sticks to everything making it difficult to roll up. This is where courses two through five came in. Beef Meatloaf, grilled Rolled Beef in net fat, a stick of BBQ Beef, Beef rolled in Lalot Pepper Ieaf (think beef in grape leaves). These were all meant to be rolled into the moistened rice papers with the veggies and dipped in the sauce we were given. I would never known what to do with all this without direction. Three quarters through courses 2-5 we received a plate of what I can only described as beef carpaccio with slices of onions both green and white. Accompanying the meat was a small hot pot of wonderful spicy broth to "cook" the meat in. He he, it was really good uncooked but I was told after the original bite to at least dunk it for two seconds for good measure. Course Seven: Beef porridge. Nice finish to the meal! I ordered the Durian milkshake at the beginning of the meal and enjoyed it thru the entire meal. Not as challenging as I was lead to believe and would order it again along with this entire meal! Come here for hot delicious veggie noodle Pho Soup & crunchy outside yet soft inside Spring Rolls, and your tummy will delight in you & love you Pho-ever! :) My visit: It was a super chilly cold windy day & on my way to see the UH mvb (University of Hawaii Men's Volleyball) game, my psyche began to convince my tummy that it needed pho. Not a difficult task as it seems I arrived at Super Pho in no time! Lol Easy to get to from the freeway, it's right below 7-11 on Waialae Ave across from the park. I pull into the back and find a new nicely paved partially covered parking lot. Got out of my car and walked in under the partially covered driveway/parking area. Very helpful for those rainy days! It was a bit empty so I asked if they were open. Yes they are! They seat me immediately at the Ewa end of the restaurant. Both my tummy and psyche are at peace :D The waitress immediately brings me water and a menu. Their menu is nice, clean, very new looking. Incidentally, their tables and chairs are new too! Long gone are the glass covered white table cloths and rattan type chairs with the heart shaped backrest. Another couple walks in is also seated immediately. The man orders right away and his food comes right away too! I am impressed! "Hey, where's mine?", I'm thinking. Oh yeah, figure out what I want then close my menu so they'll come take my order! Just like that, the waitress arrives magically to take my order! Ha! I place my order. She's happy to adjust it to what I prefer. I order pho with rare steak but could I also add in tendon?! Yes, she can do that :); I also order the vegetarian summer rolls but can they be spring rolls (=fried)? Again she is happy to oblige. My pho comes out before I can take all of my photos of their new menu which for me works out bc I really needed to hurry eat then leave lol During my stay, she came by to fill my water once & I could have had one more but it was A-OK. I was supposed to be rushing! I ordered 2 items: 1) PHO (soup) WITH RARE STEAK (order steak on the side on separate plate so you can see the freshness) +some TENDON (mine was not a side order) Pho Vegetation: The bean sprouts & basil that go into the pho are pretty plentiful, fresh, crunchy. The lemon slices are juicy. I wonder why there are two thick lemon slices but when the bowl of pho comes out I understand why. Overall Quantity: Happily the bowl is HUGE and the soup generously fills the bowl :D I loved the size of the huge bowl! Broth Temperature: The pho is still hot enough too cook my rare steak even though I already cooled the soup down a bit by first adding in my veggies, lemon squeezes, & plum and sriracha sauces lol :P Gently swirl in your steak when your order first arrives if you like it more cooked ;) Broth Taste: The pho soup and ingredients are delicious. You can tell the pho soup base has been lovingly made - it is thick, sweet, & tasty the way a good broth is made, from bones boiled the day before with spices and fresh veggies so it thickens and is not watery or thin (my opinion & experience). Rare Steak: The rare steak served as thin slices on a separate plate looks and tastes fresh. Tendon: They were in there and actually were a good amount hanging out mostly at the bottom. Taste was fresh and bite had a good give that was just right (not too tough; not too soft). Pho Noodles: Are al dente meaning that the chew is perfect. The taste is fresh. If anything, I felt a little more noodles should be included. I've come here before & didn't have that issue which is, when I feel like my chopsticks initially don't get a good dig in, is when it feels too light on noodles for me so that's -1 star. 2) SPRING ROLLS with tofu & veggie filling. Note that both the tendon in the pho and vegetarian rolls as fried are not on the menu for either item (costs a little more) but the waitress was happy to make the adjustments for me. Thank you, Super Pho! Quantity: The price seems higher than other places but that's because one order here is twice the rolls, 4 rolls instead of just 2. Temp & Taste: It's piping hot, delicious, light yet not, fresh, & crunchy. I enjoyed it a lot! The fillings are easy to bite off and eat. Spring Roll Veggies: The accompanying pretty curly dark green lettuce leaves, juicy cucumber slices, fragrant mint, thin white noodles, & sweet fish sauce were also fresh and delicious. How to Eat: Make a lettuce wrap! Dip small qty noodles in fish sauce, add veggies + spring roll on top large piece lettuce, wrap, & eat! First introduced to this restaurant by Joie Y. Super Pho is located on Waialae avenue, across from the public park between 7-11 and Tamura's. I've been here a couple times, but usually go to different Vietnamese places if I find myself craving pho in kaimuki. Super pho is smaller than other Vietnamese places in the area, and the restaurant itself is oddly shaped. They offer a very extensive menu, like pages and pages of pho options, rice plates, noodle plates, salads and hotpot. The food items I've tried have all been delicious, I particularly like pad thai and lemon beef salad, but I've never really had bad experiences anywhere else, so super pho isn't exceptional. Recently, I came here to get pho take out. The service was so fast! 5 minutes after I ordered, I was walking out the door with a huge bag of food. They had prepared the soup and noodles separately, with an additional bag of veggies. They also gave me numerous containers of sauces. All for $10, and it was hot and yummy when I got home. I've always found street parking here, but I think there is a lot in the back too. They also offer yummy drinks and desserts in addition to their wide range of food options. read more

The best Vietnamese restaurant in Honolulu! I tried the grilled beef sandwich and vermicelli with spring rolls and bbg pork. It's super good. Highly recommended if you haven't tried. I get that prices for everything has gone up due to supply chain issues, labor, inflation, ingredients. Etc. I don't mind paying $17-20 for a bowl of decent pho. BUT charging $10 bucks for orange juice is absurd. read more
