What an appropriate name for this restraint! The whole experience was superMega bien! Our waitress (I think it was kristy) was the nicest person ever. We had the beets and queso arepas to start. The beets were light, refreshing and delicious. The arepas has a nice pesto underneath and some type of sour cream I'm guessing on top. Lots of ooey gooey cheese! Muy delicioso! Then we did the patatas bravas and the shrimp soup. The shrimp soup was spicy and fully of flavor. The patatas were cheesy, soft and almost luxurious. A perfect bite to balance the spiceness of the soup. I had the spicy margarita (2 in fact) to drink- they were not spicy. I think they threw a jalepeno in there pretending to add spice- but as a spicy margaritas goths was on the low end. We were hungry after arriving in Denver and having a long first day. It was getting late and realized we were near a restaurant that had been recommended to me. Thankfully the dinner service was coming to an end and we were seated and served quickly. We ordered a lot off the small plates side even though the server tried to warn us! The food came out FAST! (Good for my hanger!) the ceviche was definitely the favorite, patatas bravas were solid, the arepas were good too! The only let down was the saffron arancini as it lacked flavor. I've been to Super Mega Bien twice now. The inside is always busy which adds great ambiance to how they have things set up. It's not a traditional ordering process and they have waiters bringing around carts of food. You do have a dedicated server to make sure you get all of the items you want and drinks. Dim sum + Latin American cuisine = Super Mega Bien. The name really says it all. Not only is the inventive fusion of the style of dining with the style of cuisine delightful, the food is delicious. My husband and I had dinner hear to celebrate our first 6 months of marriage. The menu includes shareable larger plates, as well as a continual cart of dim sum items that rotate every week. While many of the salads and large plates looked great, for just the two of us we wanted to enjoy most of what the dim sum cart had to offer. We enjoyed: two orders of the latin spring rolls (one at the beginning and one at the end - they were that good). I think they were mainly stuffed with squash and cheese, served with some spicy aioli. My husband had ceviche and ribs, I had ropa vieja with plantains,and we split carne asada with chimichurri. The ceviche and carne asada stood out especially - the asada in particular was cooked perfectly - it melted in the mouth. The portion sizes were ample and we were stuffed when we left. Our drinks were good - I had the el picante and my husband had some red wine. We were seated at the chef's table, right next to where the dim sum dishes come out, so we always got first choice and very fresh food. We also got to see everything as it was being made. Our service was friendly and frequent, and we can't wait to come back soon since the dim sum menu changes frequently. I'm a huge fan of traditional dim sum so when I found out this place was doing it with tapas I had to come. I was not disappointed. We ate all the things. Ropa vieja with plantains. Yum. Tender and juicy. Yucatan style ceviche. Bright, tangy, and big 'ole shrimp. I shot that leftover juice Peruvian style. Brazilian coconut shrimp soup. The creamy and mild sweetness reminded me of a lot of Thai Currys. Jamaican jerk chicken wings. Tangy, garlic-y goodness. Portuguese smoked halibut dip. It was like mashed potatoes with a hint of fish. It was weird but delicious. Vegetarian Mexican spring rolls. MY FAVE. So much flavor with the black beans and corn. We had the family salad, carne asada, Pupusa (& then a 2nd one!), fried plantains, chicken wings (beautifully served on bone. See pics!), a virgin piña colada, spanish rice, rice & beans...phew! & boxed up plenty of leftovers for tomorrow! Affordable, elevated food! Christi our server was a sweetie! As was our hostess & well the whole restaurant that seemed to take turns serving is as dishes became ready. Goodbyes and thank yous from the bar as we exited. I have since did curbside and they operated out of the window of Work N Class. ---- Tucked under the Ramble Hotel and next to Death & Co - this is a fun experience to do in a group. So - it's Dim Sum..... Well, not really. Dim Sum has Cantonese origins and related to Yum Cha - which is a pairing with Tea. Most Dim Sum items are steamed or fried and also paired with a tea house while soldiers were on the road. At first - I thought this would be fusion of Latin/Cantonese flavors tapas. I was so excited thinking this will be like lots of Peruvian/Chifa plates or traditional Japanese/Venezuela cuisines, etc. It's not and it is only and mainly Latin flavors. With that said, it's still cool, but not Dim Sum. Latin Tapas in a minor pushy cart styles for the small plates and you can absolutely order large plates for the table. This restaurant has been on my To Dine List since we moved here a year ago and I finally dragged my boyfriend for a night out. We found street parking and came into the restaurant and were greeted with a friendly and warm welcome. We were quickly sat and given the choice of inside or outside. We came at the end of happy hour (TUE-SAT 5pm-6pm) and our server said that usually the restaurant is set up dim sum style with carts of different shareable plates coming around but since it was slower that we could order and bring it out for us. The happy hour special is $2 off dim sum, draft beer, wine and house cocktails. We first ordered a spicy margarita and the agave mojito, both were well prepared and balanced. The agave mojito is very smoky and that was right up my alley. We then got the patatas bravas, pork wings and pao de queijo. I love the little unique twists on each of these apps. The chimichurri sauce was such a nice bright twist to the pao de queijo! We then took the recommendation of our server and got the Green Chile Pork. It was so tender and because we were undecided about whether we wanted the steam buns or the tortillas, our server brought out both! Each vessel made the dish so different but equally as great. The bao buns were a unique transition between two cuisines and the tortillas gave the authentic traditional approach you'd want from this food. I arrived right before happy hour ended so I started rapid fire ordering small plates $6 special on HH and a delicious red wine cocktail (their version of a sangria) Refreshing and a good amount! We were able to get seated right away on a Saturday, but we were only able to order one "dim sum " area before leaving after 30 minutes. There was only one good runner, who only had 2-3 portions of each item. We were able to grab one order of flank steak, but it was very salty and chewy. After waiting a long time with no other food coming our way, we were starving and left. We had such an amazing time here! We decided to sit at the bar as we thought that's where we needed to be for happy hour, but they said we could actually have it anywhere in the restaurant. We stayed at the bar, but that was good to know. We just stuck to the small plates that they brought around, but I am anxious to go back to try some of the entrées. I'll give you the TLDR first- this is one of the top 5 restaurants I have ever been to, and you HAVE to go! Okay, now to get into it. We arrived at 8:30 or so on a Friday night without reservations. We were seated almost immediately on the side by side booth area that faces our into the restaurant, and quickly offered drinks and got a rundown of the experience. It looked like the physical tables had a cart coming to them, in true dim sum style. At the higher counter area trays came around- we picked what we wanted, and our card was stamped. We tried the hummus (creamiest I've had in my life), the patatas bravas (also amazing- the crema really brought it to life) the steak with chimichurri (classic), and the ropa vieja (the plantains.... literally to die for). Seriously the ropa vieja was out of this world- I might get two next time. If that isn't enough to convince you to try Super Mega Bien... the prices were very reasonable, service was great, and the decor was such a cool eclectic mix of styles. Holy cow. Yes. The restaurant lives up to its name. It is indeed super, mega, and bien! And best of all? They've got killer happy hour deals. Nice atmosphere inside, although there isn't a ton of seating available. There's a bar right in the middle and the servers walk around with trays so you can pick from dishes that you see - so it's "dim sum" style in this manner. They'll then check off the dish from a slip at your table, just like traditional dim sum places do. We tried the ceviche, carne asada, pork wings, and spanish rice. - The ceviche was AWESOME - so light, fresh, and bursting with flavor. Seriously I would come back here just to eat this again. - Carne asada was so-so; the flavor was really nice and the chimichurri on top is delicious but ours was definitely overcooked so the meat wasn't very tender and the edges were quite burnt. - Pork wings were very unique because I've never seen this on a menu before! Good flavor, but nothing insanely special. Something that I would try once, but probably wouldn't order again in the future. - Spanish rice was the dish I was most looking forward to but unfortunately, this is the one that I was most disappointed by. It was totally covered in cheese and unfortunately, the cheese overpowered everything else in the dish. If it was lighter on this, I think it would be amazing. We had a great meal at SuperMega Bien tonight. We tried the croquettes, the ceviche, the mini corn pancakes, and had the half order of rice with shrimp and it was all really good - and I'm still full. We are pretty fortunate to have hooked up a little spot just around the corner from this restaurant and several others that are both fun and creative in the RINO district, but even if you aren't that lucky, a trip over is well worth it. The atmosphere was fun, the service was good, and I don't think you'll go wrong with any of the restaurants in that area. I'd suggest not taking your 8 year old, but no one kicked us out. You can share some of the larger plates and take full advantage of the dimsum cart as it rolls around. The fish stew has been one of my favorite meals paired with the rotating variety of bites offered from the cart. I will say that the Spanish fried rice was a disappointment but there are so many other delicious offerings that it wouldn't hold me back from giving this place five stars. My husband and I were really looking forward to a place like this - Latin American cuisine on Dim Sum carts? Sign us up! Unfortunately, we were sorely disappointed with our experience. We had an extremely long wait for a 2 person table, and then our server wasn't the most pleasant. We marveled at the menu (with lots of gluten-free options!) and the photos beforehand - anticipating delicious latin inspired tapas arriving on carts just like they did when we were kids. The food wasn't anything we've tasted before, and the food was cold and the delivery underwhelming. We had the shrimp ceviche, the wings, and the papaya salad (which was more of a spinach salad with some orange papaya on it, not green papaya for those of you who love the traditional thai green papaya salad). As a Cantonese girl who grew up with the Dim Sum culture, I think I was anticipating the same thrill of haggling down the carts zooming by with piping hot small plates and getting to pick and choose what you'd like. The Dim Sum carts in traditional tea lounges often come heated or somewhat insulated so your food stays hot or cold - the ones at SMB are small regular carts and I really only saw one cart the whole night since the restaurant is so small and you can barely move around in the small space. I must give credit for their attempt to merge the two cultures and make it fun, but I think my expectations were much higher than they should have been. read more

I read so many good things about SMB and I loved the concept of the dim sum service of tapas-style dishes so I was very eager to come here. The experience just didn't meet my expectations, I guess. I came away feeling mildly disappointed. I think this place was just not my cup of tea at all. I disliked the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was much smaller than I expected it would be and everything was crammed in as tightly as possible - there was literally only enough room between tables for the carts to fit in. The decor was kind of funky and interesting but made the space feel more like a punk rock bar than a place to enjoy a nice meal. It was also super, super loud in the dining room so there was no carrying on a conversation, which added to the bar feel. The food was pretty good though the portions are quite small for the price and nothing we tried impressed us, really. Service was good though, again, it was too loud in there for anything more than perfunctory discussion with our server so that was pretty unremarkable. So overall, for me, I'd probably give this place two stars because nothing about the experience made me want to come back, but I think two stars feels a bit harsh when nothing was truly wrong with the place. So, I'll give it three stars. Just not my cup of tea, I guess. read more
