I've walked by this place numerous times, but could not partake for one reason or another, until my recent birthday. After Ocean Prime dinner we had some time to kill before a comedy show at Comedy Works, so we finally made the stop. I love this place, the drinks are handcrafted and delicious. The interior decor is sophisticated, but not pompous. The bartender was super sweet and made crafted and stiff drinks for us. She was all about taking care of the patrons, even though she was the only one there and everyone decided to arrive at the same time. I didn't mind the wait, as I watched her bustling the bar; it was quite entertaining to me. I would definitely recommend it, a great bar with one of the best decors in town. Extremely disappointed with my wife and I's experience at Roosevelt. The ambiance and location is great. However, the staff who helped us was not. Our bartender Ally, was extremely drunk. She forgot my wife and I's orders multiple times and was outright rude to us at some point. Luckily one of the bar backs recognized what was going on and was able to help us get our orders in. When we did get our cocktails, we had little to no time to enjoy them because our bartender kept hounding us to get another round. Overall, the place has great potential but needs to figure out this staffing issue. read more

Roosevelt was the last bar that I went to in Downtown Denver and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun this place is! I ordered the Skinny Dipper, which came highly recommended by the bartender. He mentioned that his wife always gets this cocktail whenever she visits the bar. I had minimal expectations for Skinny Dipper since there's carrot juice in there, but it ended up being one of the better cocktails I've had. I would describe it as creative and refreshing. The menu was kick ass but since my eyes were a bit heavy I opted for the classic espresso martini. In my opinion one of the best in Denver! It was thick and creamy and served its purpose of propping us up before dinner and drinks with some friends. When we came in it was pretty empty (given it was fairly early) but they had awesome tunes & even better service. I made a reservation Wednesday night for Saturday, we had a group of 12 people for my husband's 40th. We got there right on time, if not a little earlier and the GM ends telling me that they don't really make reservations or hold tables. I was so confused as I had a whole text string showing my reservation was confirmed for the two booths in the back of the bar. After talking to him for a few minutes, he said we can sit in one booth after the group that was already there left. We were waiting for a table at a restaurant down the street so we decided to stop at Roosevelt to grab a drink or two in the meantime. I had read some reviews about it and had done some research and had decided not to make any effort to come in before getting to Denver. However, since we had to wait and it was close by, we decided to go ahead and give it a go. I would say that I should have made this place a destination to go to on it's own. I was worried about how other reviewers were saying it was dark, loud and cheap with their unoriginal cocktails. I found my experience to be quite the opposite. It may have been because it was during daylight, but the place was lit nicely (when we walked by when it was dark already after dinner it was still lit nicely) and the garage doors were open. It was funny seeing people come through the window vs the actual door. The overhead music wasn't too loud for us to speak to each other or the bartenders. We liked the eclectic mix of music that was playing, as we both like multiple genres of music. The décor is super cute with the bathrooms behind bookcases and printers on the wall. The service was great. It was a bit slow getting our drinks but I was watching him make them and that added to the fun experience. The guys behind the bar the night we came were hilarious, friendly and just plain fun. They are also pretty organized and clean AF! I was impressed by the cleanliness of their bar. And now to the best part... the cocktails. I didn't find them to taste like they had cheap alcohol in them. I didn't see them using cheap alcohol either (although I know you can refill a bottle with cheaper stuff, I don't think they do this.) We ordered off the house specialties menu and not one drink we had wasn't delicious or was watered down. I would actually probably say the dirty blonde was one of the best cocktails using grapefruit I've ever had. I was sad I had to gulp it down when our table was ready. Found this bar visiting from out on town, went on a whim with some people I met at another bar and I'm super glad I did. This place is fantastic. From the drinks to the ambience to the bartenders, Roosevelt delivers more than just a wide variety of drinks, they deliver a great experience as well. I tried the White Rhino (pictured), Dirty Blonde, Margherita, French 75, Autumn Nurse, and Vieux Carre -- not all at once of course, but throughout the course of the week. All of them were affordable, delicious, and prepared excellently. Also, small detail, but I absolutely love the fact the bookshelves in the back are not only doors to the bathrooms, but real bookshelves as well. Pick up something random and read it at the bar if you wanna look studious. Shout-out to Jeremy for going above and beyond and helping me choose what to drink and to Kristy for bearing with me and making sure I was safe. Came here after being re-guided by the doorman at Canopy to a classier mixology type lounge and not the college party we had accidentally attended at Canopy. The place is great, beautiful setting, music was amazing, some people were dancing downstairs by the bar area but it is mostly a lounge. They closed down at 2 am but the highlight was Sterling who created the most amazing drinks for us with just us picking our liquor (gin) and mentioning the lighter the better. He is a genius. One of them I didn't even try to finish. 3) they needed a card on file to start a tab and what do you know....the next morning my friend got a call from her bank saying her card information was stolen and she only used her card at this bar. This is one of my favorite bars in Denver. As a writer, the typewriters on the wall and the secret doors behind the bookshelves are one insanely awesome. Ordering drinks like "The Poet" out of a hard cover book is fun and unique. The last time I was there we had great conversations with the attentive bartender. I do know he was working as fast as possible trying to keep up with the growing crowd while his manager offered up no help. That business practice could use some revision. Overall this place has an incredible vibe and great location. I only get to visit when traveling there for work. I definitely recommend stopping by. Though, with all of their bookshelves throughout the bar, how cool would it be if one of the bookshelves had a secret book lever you could pull to enter a speakeasy within the bar?? The interior is laidback and upscale, from the dimly lit raindrop bulbs hanging over the main bar, to dark finish of the wood, to dark typewriters meticulously arranged on a brick wall, and bookshelves throughout the bar, it has a chill ambiance with upscale vibe. The menu is hidden within books on the tables in the front few pages and the remainder of the book are conversation topic questions with space for you to write down your responses within the book. If you're out on a date in this bar, and you run out of stuff to talk about, you can always count on the Roosevelt book to help bail you out with interesting conversation topics! Cocktails: group favorites were the Strawberry Fields (bubbles, strawberries, and foam!), The Aviation (lavender-strong cocktail), Free Ice gin cocktail, and the other cocktails in general too, but we all wanted more of the strawberry fields cocktail after tasting that! Stopped by for a pre-dinner drink. I had a strawberry cocktail and it was awesome! My husband ordered a beer. The service was good and we decided to go back after dinner for a night cap. We came back about 8:30 and they were full. We were told a 15 min wait and because it was like 3 degrees outside we could wait right inside the door. We waited but (through no fault of theirs) no one left and our table never opened. We left after about 45 min.
