My husband and I prefer posting up at the bar to chat with the bartender and watch the action behind the bar. My friends and I were lured in becoz the beautiful decor and typewriters on the wall. A 30-something male, dark hair and light complexion, came to our table after we sat down and he silently put some napkins on the table and apathetically asked "what do you want" to our whole group. Who the heck speaks like that to a group of customers when they sit down? We try to lighten the air by jokingly asking the man, "everything ok? You having a rough day?" He then aggressively said he was fine and did we want a drink or not. Um. no thanks. Bars are a dime a dozen on this street and we will go take our business elsewhere~~ If you don't want to serve people or communicate with others, don't get a job that's 10% skill snd 90% social skills. read more

I was walking by during an urban exploration and was enticed by their happy hour. The place has a super cool vibe with great music. I think the hidden bathrooms are fun, too. The bartender, who I can only identify as the person working on 2/14/2016 designated 10, CD-1, was friendly and very knowledgeable. He clearly seemed to take some care with his cocktails. For my drink, I was tempted to have one of my standards, a Sazerac or a Negroni, but I wanted to try something new. I chose the Aviation, as I like creme de violette and gin. It was a bit on the sweeter side for my tastes but had a nice, floral tartness. I appreciated having the high quality Luxardo cherries with my drink. Loved the vibe of this spot! I'm a huge nerd so I really enjoyed the books and vintage theme. Tried a few cocktails and they were all strong and delicious. My favorite had an early gray infused gin, so smooth. My fiancé really liked his drinks as well. Came here with coworkers on a Wednesday. I can't speak for the drinks since all I had was water, but my coworkers had a great time so I guess it was pretty solid! We love the way the bar looks! The library theme is pretty cool. We came in on a Saturday evening around 7 pm. The bartenders were too busy to acknowledge us unless we came to them. We even sat at the bar and the bartenders were more interested in grabassing their coworkers than attending to customers. The reviews are not really correct. But I liked the bartenders they were really kind. And that definitely helped. It's a nice atmosphere, more hype music. They dim the lights so it is a bit darker. The bathroom is behind a bookshelf. So that was neat. It was a bit busier. But the drinks reminded me of a hype place like viewhouse, where it's nice to go but their cocktails are not good. But compared to other bars like The Wild or Union Lodge No1, this missed the mark on quality. I guess I was expecting like a quality cocktail. But it was just like every other place downtown that pours cheap liquor. If it were $8-10 for drinks I could see that. But they were like $13+, mine was sweet and lacked of quality liquor. A lot of people were here, but I probably won't be back. Great customer service though, I do appreciate that. But I think if they want to lean more toward quality, I would come back. read more

I was not here for too long, because we had friends over at The Front Porch. It is in a cool and hip area called Larimer Square. The ambience here was really cool with the dim lighting and the fake bookshelves that were doors to the bathrooms. I thought that was really cool... The bartenders here were nice and attentive and poured awesome crafted drinks. I was not here long enough to give it a detailed review, but I enjoyed my time here. I have really tried to like Roosevelt and I just don't. Having been here for both happy hour and late night I have experienced both crowds and just am not feeling the vibe here. I will give them credit for the cool interior of the place. I love the bookcases and I love the hidden bathroom doors. Reminds me of the Library Room of Buddakan in NYC, but with a hipster twist. Speaking of hipsters, I have never seen so much flannel nor so many ironic mustaches, pairs of overly tight jeans, or over sized specs in one room. Whether you go during the day or late night, this is the place to be for the Denver hipster crowd. The service here is terrible, as the servers are all very busy being hipsters and ignoring their customers. We went here on a dead Thursday evening and had to walk up to the bar to get served, 15 minutes after our server delivered our menus and said "be right back". I watched her for those 15 minutes dawdle at the end of the bar on her phone, probably looking for a new fixie. Once we ordered our drinks (from the bar), it took forever for them to be made and delivered back to us. The most complex drink was a dirty Shirley, there was no muddling involved. Another thing that is odd, they don't serve any food, which seems completely counter-intuitive to me. Not even bar nuts! We left shortly after we finished our outrageously expensive drinks as they have no happy hour pricing, very silly to me as even the most expensive places on Larimer offer sweet happy hour deals. When I came here late one night, I met possibly the most arrogant bartender I have ever encountered. He clearly saw me, looked away and started busying himself with polishing glasses. Having been a bartender before I know that you don't sit there polishing glasses while you're 4 deep at the bar. I elbowed my way to the front and finally got my drinks, which again took forever to make. There was an eye roll and everything from him when I ordered-sorry to ask you to do your job. Needless to say, he did not receive an overly large tip for his overly large attitude. I don't mean to bash the whole hipster movement that has taken Denver by storm, but I get really tired of the whole reverse snobbism thing and arrogance that seems to go along with it. I would rather have courteously served, better priced, and more delicious drinks at Ocean Prime across the way. read more

Came here one Saturday night while in Denver during a snow storm. Trendy bar. Bar area is fairly small. There are cool bookcase doors to the bathroom. There is an upper area where you can sit with a group of people. A diverse group of people; some dressed to the nines, others in more casual close. There is a DJ there spinning great music from top 40 to old school hip hop/r&b. Can't imagine how packed it would be in the summer or a warmer night. read more

Three things about the Roosevelt that I love: 1. Their cocktails. I asked the bartender to make me 3 creative drinks not on the menu and so he did. I don't even know what was in mine, but the bartender nailed exactly what I was feeling. 2. Their bathrooms hidden behind large bookshelves. Okay, even as an adult hidden rooms are freakin' cool. To have it in a bar is so awesome. Beware though, there are real books on the book shelf and I accidentally pulled the wrong ones and many of them came falling down. 3. The ambiance and vibe. This isn't your divey college bar. It's more of a laidback but upscale place where you can get a damn good cocktail. The decor is also very cool. I felt like I was in a modern writer's hangout pad. I was into it. If you love a good cocktail and good vibes, check out the Roosevelt. If you're not having a good time, there are plenty of other spots close by that you can wander over to. read more

Awesome little craft cocktail bar! Came on a Monday night before a concert at The Ellie, several people here but not overly crowded. Excellent selection of craft cocktails, anywhere from $10-$16 which is pretty good for craft drinks downtown. The ambiance is unique and subtle but charming. We will be back! read more

This bar is a bit of mix! The decor with the typewriters on the wall, the bartenders with facial hair that actually cut the rinds of the fruit in front of you for your drinks, and the drinks themselves really resonate with me being 30 and trying to be sophisticated when I drink. However, the music was more reminiscent of a frat party from my college years due to the deafening sound of 2006 club music that was blasting throughout the bar. The drinks were so good though, that after a few, the music didn't seem that bad. So, if you can ignore the music, highly recommend! read more

What a neat place! I've never been to a bar by myself before but I'm glad I choose Roosevelt for my first time! Did a little solo trip to Denver and wanted to explore the area before dinner. Saw this was a block away from my reservation and came in. It wasn't super packed yet, which was great. The vibe here is top notch. If you're like me and love all things old school, then this is the place for you haha. The upper level has couches for seating with bookshelves built into the wall as their displays. The bottom level has the bar and high table seating and tables. The bottom is also where the full wall of typewriters is!!! So cool. What I probably liked best was that the menu itself was also a book. The first few pages were devoted to the actual menu and the rest of the books were pages of different prompts -- what was your favorite vacation? most embarrassing moments? song recommendations? etc etc. and people actually had filled them out, so it was fun to read those while drinking. To top it off, when I went the bar was playing a lot of old school hip hop so that was another win in my ...book (hehe). Also as everyone else has mentioned, the bathroom is accessible by pushing the bookshelf doors near the bar. It felt real speakeasy-like, even if it was just to go to the bathroom haha. Other than that, my one drink was delicious and fairly priced. Don't think I've had a cocktail with coconut water until then so that was a new experience for me. I've been meaning to try Roosevelt for awhile now and glad I finally did. Loved the decor - themed yet minimalist. Loved the bartenders - proud of their cocktail list yet willing to create new. Loved the cocktail - totally me yet 100% their creativity. Long story short, any bartender who takes the time to listen to my paradoxical preferences, especially on drinking days with a mild tummy ache, earns 5 Stars in my book. (Get it? BOOK!) While I'm mad I cannot recall the bartender's name who made me heaven on ice, I do have a picture of him climbing the ladder for my Goose Melon (which I USUALLY hate Grey Goose). Ask for Issac. Dassit. On a real note: My girlfriend and I were visiting Denver and decided to check out Larimer Square and stumbled upon Roosevelt. It was between this and the Front Porch; this was the better decision. The bartender, Issac, attended to us quickly with waters and got our drinks quickly. We then asked for a drink off menu and he didn't disappoint. All drinks were made with such creativity. It was very mesmerizing to watch the bartenders work. The atmosphere is lively and definitely not your typical college bar. The bathroom is a hidden bookcase (super cool) and yes, they're real! Check it out. read more
