Had high hopes for this place. The wait was long, but I can live with that (even though it was a Wednesday night). Then it took a looooong time to get the food. That wasn't as acceptable as I was getting hangry. One hour and 15 minutes after arriving at the restaurant, our food came. Fried seafood platter was greasy and undercooked. What a wonderful spot by the beach! Where do I begin? This is definitely a place the locals love, so you know the food, the atmosphere, and the service will be good...I recently relocated to St. Augustine and am lucky to have friends living here, so when I asked where to go, they immediately said sunset grille...and they were right! I met several really nice people at the bar, both patrons and bartenders. Hannah (I think I'm correct on her name) was nothing short of amazing! She is great at what she does, is attentive, a multitasker, anticipates your needs, and makes sure you have everything you need when dining (s&p, silverware, extra napkins...etc). Her cocktail was delicious too! I had a specialty mojito and it was very good! For lunch I opted for a blackened maui wowie sandwich (mahi-mahi made your favorite way) which was so fresh, so flavorful, and so filling! I also had the side salad instead of fries and their house key lime vinaigrette which was excellent. I usually make sure to snap a few pics, but I didn't get the chance! So, hopefully my word is enough...definitely visit Sunset Grille for a fun atmosphere with delicious food and great service! read more

Fish dip was bland, their special dry rub wings tasted like it was rubbed in sugar, fried fish sandwich bland with not fresh garnished, Alfredo heavy in heavy cream. PERFECT SUNSET We needed takeout dinner for a large group of grandparents, parents & young children. We searched for a location on the beach with food type variety and found Sunset Grille's menus to be diverse & perfect for our group. Ordering by phone was quick & easy, food was ready on time, checkout was fast and efficient despite the fact the restaurant was packed & overflowing, food was exactly as ordered, ready-to-go, hot & delicious. Note: the children's menu was not viewable online but they do have one with wide ranging selections. Will return to dine in next time. read more

We've come here for years until recently, I came in with my mom and with my 2 children and parked where I usually always have not realizing it was now a compact car area. I heard the manager asking around the restaurant about my vehicle, so I raised up and told him it was mine and he asked me to move it. I had literally already paid and was only waiting on my card back but he said I couldn't wait, I had to move it right then. So I did, across the street, then had to come back and carry my 2 babies back across the street, while pregnant might I add. It's a shame for a long time customer to get no understanding about a new policy with parking, we haven't been back since. Highly suggest the Buffalo cauliflower if you do go here. read more

My 3 friends and I were excited to try this restaurant our last night in St. Augustine (May 17th). What a disappointment! First of all, upon entering, it smelled horrible as if a dirty mop had been used in the foyer. Yuck. We were seated in a super noisy bar area (early evening) and greeted by an unfriendly server. I don't think she smiled once. But, we were still eager to try the food. Seriously?! It was mediocre at best. My seafood salad was tasteless, the dressing yucky sweet. My friend's steak was tough and sweet potatoes had no color or taste. The salmon apparently was not the best, either, even though my sweet friend did not complain. (None of us did.) "Deep-fried capers" sounded interesting, but they were just regular capers, most likely just poured straight out of a jar. What a huge disappointment. I gave the restaurant 2 stars only because the clam chowder was delicious. Other than that - Nah. Overpriced and totally underwhelmed. Most of all, disappointed in the unfriendly service. read more

Wow! All I can say is we've visited 3 times on our long weekend getaway! We use to live in the area 25 years ago and never visited this place . We came back for a get away And stayed nearby . Ate there for dinner Monday and lunch Tuesday. The crab bisque and the conch chowder were delicious. The grilled seafood sampler and the seafood salad were delicious. There is nothing better than to sit at Sunset Grill watching the sunset over the ocean, open air margarita in hand. Sigh..... Oh and there food isn't bad either! The Crab Bisque is hearty and really good here. I know this is a seafood restaurant but I had to try the Chicken and Artichoke Francaise - The chicken breast wasn't too bland as it was pounded slightly prior to cooking. It had capers, cream and artichoke stuffed into the middle... MMMNNNNN!!! There was pasta in this dish as well, but really? Who noticed! The chicken dish wasn't too bad but the seafood is expensive. Most dishes are just around $20.00. The service was good, then it got busy and we lost our server for a short while, but overall the experience and food here is delish!!! read more

Some where around the time when it gets weird that no one has even taken the drink order an overly aggressive server walks up and I kid you not said "what do you want?"............ NO NAME OR WELCOME OR EVEN A "Can I take your drink order?" Nope. Almost losing it I decided to keep my cool, I asked for water and he just walked away. Thinking to myself, "uh... So am I going to get the water or does that mean I should leave?" I left. I will NOT be back. And I assure you that if the nameless guy stays there he will drag you down too. This was going to be a 2 for me, but a last minute intervention bumped it up. So, big negative for me is the prices - most beach drinks were around $10, too much for a margarita in my opinion. Got the fried seafood plate - $20 for 3 scallops, 6 shrimp and a big piece of fried fish. The shrimp were delish, the scallops meh and the fish kinda strange. However, as we were wrapping up we mentioned to the waitress that the fish seemed like the batter wasn't right (We didn't eat much of it and did not want to take it home, so she asked) The manager took that off our bill and thanked us for letting them know. If you are eating here and deciding side dishes - the Caesar salad dressing was super bland, the beans and rice have lots of onions mixed in and the fried are pretty tasty. read more

Why is it so hard to find a great seafood place at the beach? This spot was the highest rated on yelp. Fried seafood lovers plate $19.99 included fried fish piece, 4 shrimp, 3 scallops and 2 sides. Part of the fish was undercooked, breading on scallops fell off. Shrimp were good. Black beans & rice (one of my fav foods to eat) tasted sour. Just okay, nothing worth remembering. My son had wings - they were large and the mild datil sauce was good. Our waitress Joanie was mostly MIA - only stopped by once to refill our drinks. Come on St. Augustine - step it up! read more

We came here while on vacation on Crescent Beach just south of St Augustine Beach Labor Day weekend. It was around 9:30 on a Friday night when we were trying to figure out what to eat. A lot of places around St. Augustine Beach we realized closed at 9. When I saw this place, I told my husband let's go for it because they were open until 1am and looked pretty good. We actually got our food to go. We got there just around 10pm and parking was a breeze. My husband went in while I stayed with our daughter in the car. I wanted something small so I got the Coconut Shrimp. He got the Ultimate Steak Sandwich and we got cheese sticks for an app. It took next to no time at all before he was heading back to the car, which was amazing since we had a tired toddler in the backseat. The food was SO good. The Pina Colada dip for the shrimp was amazing. He loved his sandwich and he is a picky eater. We loved the food so much the next night when we couldn't figure out what we wanted we decided to go back. I got the Ahi Tuna Tacos. He got the same sandwich he loved it so much. The tacos were AMAZING. I didn't use the casabi sauce since I hate wasabi, and it tastes like just like the stuff. But the tacos were juicy enough without it. We also got the buffalo dip which was awesome. We contemplated going back Sunday but decided to try something else. But goodness, we will definitely be back if we're in St Augustine! read more

Driving through Saint Augustine we saw a review for the Sunset Grill so we decided to dine there for Dinner. The service was great(waitress named Christine) our drinks came promptly. The grilled oysters were a 10 and the cheese in them was just the right amount. The Tuna Poke was unique with a variety of vegetables around the tuna. The ceasar salad tasted home made. My wife not a seafood lover had the grilled chicken sandwich. She enjoyed it and the fries were crisp and a step up for fries. To top this great meal the owner walks over to each table and talks to the guest. A fine eating experience. Found out he went to the same high school as my grandkids. A few local friends highly recommended this place, so we gave it a try as it's a little skip and a jump from our hotel. I had the sunset seafood pasta, which had sand dollar sized scallops covering the top. It was to die for! I just couldn't stop eating! My mom had the grouper, also amazing. It was just melt in your mouth amazing. Of course, it isn't a proper Florida meal without key lime pie. Mouth watering. It is SO GOOD that I'm going to alter my recipe at home, that is my signature treat. Lex was our server. He was fun, bold, and prompt. His service was exceptional. My mom and I played cards during our meal, and not only did he sit down to try and learn the game we were playing, but there was never any pressure to wrap it up and leave, even though the place was filling up on a Saturday night. Food is great here, but the price is way to high considering the market and good restaurants around. The owner is some loud mouth Italian guy who acts like the jersey shore punks. He started swearing at me when I ate at the bar because a song came on and he was yelling out his own made up lyrics that were degrading to the women in the area. We ate here 2 times on our vacation in St. Augustine Beach. It was good!!! First time we had the Crab Bisque, Clam Chowder french fries and spinach/artichoke/crab dip with tortilla chips... DELICIOUS!!! The crab bisque was sooooo good... So was the dip... and those french fries with Clam chowder were MMMMMMM!!! Wish I had some now.... The second time it was so packed that we sat at the bar and ate there... Had a mixed drink (some type of martini) it was delicious. Don't remember the name. And we ordered the Crab Fondue which was good but it was too much... Carb overload... Would be good to order with a party of 4 or 5 to share. Delicious... The food was great. The staff attentive. I had the grouper, and it was fantastic. I wish we would have understood that there were 2 different hostess stations and 2 waitlists. We were sat right outside the kitchen door and it was very busy, but overall it was good. The manager came around to ask how things were going and gave us 2 free can koozies. Wonderful dinner with he hubby and parents while on vacation. We all ordered different meals and all were wonderful! I had the Shrimp Lovers dinner, mom had coconut shrimp, hubby had a fishermans platter and dad had a pasta with shrimp and scallops. Food portions were large but flavorful and prices were reasonable with the most expensive being $19.99. We thought that was reasonable for fresh quality seafood that was expertly prepared. We were initially told there would be a 45 min wait to sit inside but got seated in about 20 minutes. Just an FYI that outside seating on the first level is seat yourself; the upstairs outside deck has a separate wait list and hostess, so head up the steps if you want to sit up there. We had to wait about 30 min for our good but considering it was a Saturday night and this place was hopping, we really didn't mind. Check it out if you're in the area! read more

Food was excellent. Just hope a huge party doesn't get seated just before you do (after you've probably waited 30 minutes or more for a table). We got our drinks and appetizers fairly quickly. But then it was an eternity before we got our entrees, which were great. By the time we got them, we had actually lost our appetites. BTW - I have absolutely no idea how another reviewer was able to watch the sunset over the ocean, since the ocean is to the east.
