We were happy with Sunrun until a part under warrenty needed to be replaced. It took months for Sunrun to obtain the part and install it. While waiting for the part our SDG&E bills were high. Very disappointed with Sunrun. After the solar installation, we had our roof inspected, and the inspector confirmed that the installation crew caused extensive damage throughout the roof, including cracked and missing tiles. We were informed the damage is severe enough that we may now need an entirely new roof. To make matters worse, Sunrun has not been willing to properly help resolve the situation and has been giving us the runaround instead of taking responsibility. There have been at least 5 service visits that still haven't resolved the issue, plus 2 no-shows/cancellations after I took time off work to be there. On the most recent one, I got conflicting explanations from customer service (technician sick vs. parts not available). Awful company. After having leaks following installation, Sunrun sent out 7 contractors over a year to assess the situation. Each told us that they were going to recommend that Sunrun do repairs and then we would hear nothing until they would send it another contractor to try and get a different answer. Now a year later we still have no resolution and they want to send two more contractors out to assess! Regret ever doing business with them. Like so many other reviews have stated, Sunrun door-knockers are the worst. They completely ignored our prominent "NO SOLICITING" sign and interrupted my girlfriend and I while we were watching TV in our underwear. We only answered the door (after putting on pants) because we thought our new neighbors were coming to visit. As soon as they said, "We're from Sunrun" and started their sales pitch, I pointed to the big NO SOLICITING sign and said, "You guys must be stupid if you think this sign doesn't apply to you". One of them replied, "You're not very friendly". Gee, I wonder why? Will it ever get through their tiny brains that they shouldn't ignore "No Soliciting" signs? Alas, I know from other reviews that they ignore the signs. I would never do business with people who disrespect our request to NOT be interrupted just so they can make a sales pitch. We've had our solar for about 3 years. In May, a part went out and no one notified us. We didn't realize our solar was offline until we received a $600+ bill in June from SDGE. When we called, they said that they wouldn't have the part until AUGUST 25th. The woman on the phone said she would submit a claim so that we could be reimbursed for about $1800 extra that we had to pay for SDGE from May through August. We literally got solar because of the insane cost of running our AC in summer. With two babies (one is a newborn), we can't not run it. Anyway, they finally fixed it and have refused to reimburse us at all. Choosing Sunrun was a mistake. read more

Worst solar company EVER!! They hounded us for over a year for their business, we finally acquiesce to have panels put on our home in June 2023. The huge rains came in January and February of 2024 only to find we had major inside damage and roof leaks due to the improper installation of the panels. I have made numerous phone calls, sent emails and NO ONE from Sunrun will return any calls or correspondence. Save yourself the aggravation I am going through and choose a different company. HUGE REGRETS!!!! We've suffered issues ever since installation. Two years of not producing and not fixing the issue. SUNRUN mistakenly connected our batteries to a little shop on our property that takes hardly any power. So the non used shop at night have battery back up not our house! They only just realized their error and then said we have to pay to switch it to power our home. THey are trying to accuse us that we wanted an unmanned shop to have back up power over our house- anyone can see that is not logical. The Sunrun rep, who sold us the system, even told managament that we wanted out house to be backed up by the batteries not the shop. Like the other reviews, I wish I could leave negative stars- this company does not have any customer service and they lie! May have to take them to court or arrange a class action lawsuit. read more

We have complete regret for ever letting this company put 26 panels on our roof. The whole system has broken down twice. Both times running into summer with all of its sky high electricity costs. One star only because I'm forced to. This company has horrible customer service. Initially, the representative Melissa Rosenthal was very responsive but once we signed on the dotted line she became the hardest person to get a hold of. They damaged our roof at the time of install causing a water leak and although they supposedly fixed the outside, we are still awaiting the repair to our water damaged ceiling. Prior to the installation, Melissa told my elderly Mom that the entire roof would be pressure washed. That didn't happen. She promised my Mom a $1000 referral credit if my brother and I moved forward. She didn't explain the process throughly resulting in only one referral credit. When they finally sent someone to our home to follow through with the pressure washing of our roof they sent us a clown that not only failed to finish the job but left oil stains on our driveway. We ended up reaching out to customer service and after an email to Melissa and her boss they agreed to send someone out. That guy finished the roof but couldn't get the stain on our driveway out. We reached out to inform her and on 10/23/23 she texted saying that they would be back out by the end of the week. Well, as of the writing of this review a week later, the repair to out ceiling and our driveway are still outstanding. Buyer beware!!! If you have other options you are likely better going with a different company. This company is doing their best to master the bait and switch marketing technique. read more

We've had Sunrun for years, and when things were new it was all great. However, now that the system is aging and panels are starting to go out, I'm seeing a different side of Sunrun - a very bad side. We are less than halfway through our warranty period on the panels, yet Sunrun refuses to repair broken panels unless you pay them to come out and do an "assessment" on your system for $195. Each and every time I've tried to get an appointment scheduled to repair the panel, they've flat out told me that there is nothing wrong with the system, even after I have provided visual proof of a missing panel from the array on both the inverter data screens and detailed info on the inoperative panel from the SolarEdge Inverter monitoring app, which they set up. Buyer beware. They will sell and install a system that they will later leave you high and dry when things start failing. Their response was literally "we don't see a problem - all of your other panels are operating fine". Steer clear of Sunrun. The company - and their support staff wouldn't know customer service if it sat on their faces and wiggled. read more

I signed up for SunRun through Costco, and my system was installed in August of 2024. We planned our new car and an ADU based on the promises of solar savings through SunRun. After evaluation and calculating 32 solar panels would be needed based on our plans, Mark Ecalnir the SunRun representative promised us we would only be paying $60-90 a month for SDGE and likely even get money in return from SDGE . Since we got the system it never got a regular connection, and have been paying $400-800 monthly to SDGE, on top of our monthly payments to Sunrun, so close to one thousand dollars a month, plus the new car payment. Over six months later, we look into the system and find out it has not been working well for months. The maintenance crew kept rescheduling and pushing the visit out without any real explanation, however they kept charging for the unit. We have not seen any savings despite paying for extra solar panels to handle our home and the ADU, and we have not even finished building the ADU, I can only imagine how much more electricity will be once it is completed. It has been a nightmare as we now have an electric vehicle and can't even charge it without running up our electric bill. We contacted Costco after several failed attempts on getting the issue fixed through SunRun. Based on Yelp reviews, Costco has been aware of the negligence and SunRun's poor performance for over two years yet they still get to lure customers into long contracts with false promises at Costco. Further research revealed that SunRun is marking up the batteries and solar panels 130%. Sun Run sells Tesla batteries for $20 k, when they sell from $8-10k. When a company this big, is marketed at Costco you expect near whole sale prices, but you get the opposite. They are buying wholesale and marking up by over 100%.All of the products they sell are marked up by over 100%. This is not aligned with what you would expect from Costco and it is very disappointing that most people expect good customer service, fair prices and customer satisfaction. We got none of that. We also found out that there are more than 200 reviews on yelp from unsatisfied customers. If Costco is aware of this, why is Costco still doing busines with them. Is the partnership pay out that good, to keep Sunrun in their stores. Also if we would of had a business licence number , we could have done further research and found out that they are crooks. The licence number was not displayed at Costco and also not displayed on their vans. Where does Costco draw the line? The system has not worked properly for months since the day it was installed and have never seen the savings, in fact only having to dish more money. The contract has been breached as SunRun did not hold up their end of the contract. If I stopped making payments, then there are disciplinary consequences for breach of contract but in this case there are no consequences to them. I got an email from SunRun from Maria Borja after trying to communicate with them the burden that the lack of performance has brought upon my family, and they offered to reimburse only a thousand dollars. How did they come up with this amount, when the expenses don't even come close to that number. People be aware! Look up their license at cslb.ca.gov , license number 750184 and secondary 969975. I want this contract terminated as it is only a reminder of the burden it has caused my family. I am embarrassed to say that I believed the lies. Our Sunrun experience began when a now former friend approached us at a gathering and started talking to me about the benefits of solar. This Sunrun representative met with us multiple times and lied to our faces in our home. There were promises of savings and freeing ourselves from the SDG&E monopoly. Instead, the salesperson was lying to us about which billing rules we would fall under once our system was installed. Shame on us for believing an old friend without doing our own fact-checking before entering into an agreement. Once the system was installed, it didn't work properly. The battery backup was not functioning properly and it took several visits by multiple technicians for them to figure out that some wires had been installed incorrectly. The whole operation felt rushed and in hindsight, I am guessing that they were rushing to install so we wouldn't back out. Eventually, the system was brought into working order but not before several months went by with large SDG&E bills due to the partially-functioning system. To their credit (and maybe the only reason for the one-star review instead of zero), Sunrun provided credits for the months that their system was behaving like their company - underperforming and inept. I confronted our salesperson about the fraudulent information that was provided to us at the time of sale. There were discussions about training and protocols but in the end, the salesperson just stopped responding to us. GHOSTED. In a professional setting. Disgraceful and actually quite telling - if your house is built on lies, then truth is an unwelcome guest. A good question to ask might be: Why would a company include a clause in a contract that frees them from any information communicated prior to the agreement being signed? The only answer to that is to bury the lies. (One of our Escalation Experts even admitted that it's not uncommon for salespeople to stop responding to customers. What?!) Based on some of these other reviews, our case is not unique. A lack of accountability and a disdain for honesty seem to feature prominently in Sunrun's ethos. Our story has more layers but we will spare you the details of our exchanges with multiple Escalation Experts. (Another good question to ask might also be: Why does a company need an entire department dedicated to escalations?) The summary is this: if you see a Sunrun representative in your neighborhood or at Costco, be polite to the people but be firm in avoiding their company. Deception is one way to build a business but it's not sustainable and it certainly shouldn't be rewarded by giving them more business. read more

No stars would be honest. I discovered recently that the roof has a leak from a stain in the upstairs bedroom. Had my roofer up on the roof checking it out and he clearly said it's a solar install issue. He marked the area where the problem is and it's directly under the solar panels. He said whoever installed the solar didn't know what they were doing and did a half ass install. They didn't put any flashing by screw and bracket. And they misaligned the hole for the screw and did not place proper flashings. Thus, there is water seeping between under lament and the bracket. I have a 10 year roof warranty and my roofer who is highly competent said although he knows what the problem is and how to fix it is not allowed to touch the solar and remove panels. Plus it's live. So, the one star is trying to call Sun run, good luck with that. The few times I called I left my number with a recorded line and it said a rep will call u back in ten minutes. That was 4 hrs ago and then when they did call me back it was to set me up with a battery backup. I told the girl I have an issue with a roof leak now from their improper solar install. Worst customer service EVER ! We were originally with Vivent (8 years ago) and they were great and then Sunrun bought them out. We live in a duplex, and our neighbor's roof caved in and our roof was really bad so we had no choice but to do our roof at the same time our neighbor was, HOA rules. The roofer said our roof was 40 years old and so bad that they should've never put solar panels up on that old roof. It took forever for Sunrun to take the panels down so we couldn't get our roof completed for awhile, and we were not allowed to hire anybody to do it. When we requested the panels to be reinstalled, we kept getting voicemail messages and nobody was calling us back to set up the reinstallation. We ended up going through three canceled appointments before they finally installed them. The company that installed them left piles of trash from their work all in our backyard. I complained to Sunrun over a year ago about the months that we did not have solar because nobody got back with us to reinstall the panels. I asked for a discount because the panels were not on during the hottest months when we were running our air conditioner and our True Up bill almost doubled. I got a message finally from someone and they said that they were going to give us a discount for all the trouble. We actually asked that they waive the fees which was $170 per panel and we have eight panels, this is ridiculous. They told me I needed to talk to Vita and when I called her numerous times she never got back to me and nobody else got back to me. Finally three weeks later after complaining a lot, Vita emailed me back and said she had been out sick. I told her that's no excuse because as a manager myself, if I'm ever out or any of my employees are out, someone always takes their phone calls and checks their email for the ones that are missing. This was a high priority. Nobody checked her emails or followed through. In the meantime, we were running up high electric bills with no solar and then of course once I complained, they scheduled it and rescheduled it again two more times. This is the worst company ever, if I could get out of the contract I would. I tell everybody I know, including our neighbors do not use Sunrun!. We hadn't heard back from them in over a year, so we figured they did the right thing and wrote it off. Now we've been getting daily messages from them for the reinstallation costs, and threatening letters. I've tried for weeks to come to some kind of compromise and have been switched to various case managers that say they are going to work on it and get back to me, but nobody has. Since then, my wife and I have both been harassed by Brad and even his supervisor David Nunez, who called me from and unknown number to me without leaving a voicemail entailing who he was. The messages that my family have been receiving from Brad are not only harassing, but flat out disrespectful and unprofessional. We have tried to contact David's supervisor, Biss Larson, but have not received an answer. We had our panels installed in February of 2023. Noticed in November 2023 we had a couple of leaks in a bedroom. I called and they came out in December and I was told a couple of nails had went through which caused the leaks. I called texted and emailed Athan Vo several times in December and got no response. This went on through January. On February 11th 2024 they came and took down the panels to fix the roof. Again, I called texted and emailed Athan Vo to get a date for the repairs with no response. Finally I called the gal that we set the system up with and she helped to get a date set. I stayed home from work on the given date and nobody showed up. Found out that I did not have to be home at all. It is now April 9th and we have another leak and again Athan Vo won't call or respond. We have had our panels down since February 11th and Sunrun is still charging us along with SDG&E. The worst experience EVER!!! After Sunrun installed our solar we started having roof leaks. The kept sending out contractors who said the solar was not installed correctly and caused the leaks. We kept complaining and sending pictures and videos of rain coming through our dining room ceiling fan and lights, which are under the solar panels and they kept sending out contractors that said the same thing. The last contractor said Sunrun needs to replace our roof because our attic was flooded and we were getting mold. They refused to accept blame. I called last week to request the contractors reports and they refused to send them saying they didn't have them. I am now looking for an attorney to sue them. They lie and are very deceitful. We never had roof leaks before and cannot afford a new roof or an attorney. The customer service ladies are reading a script and do not know anything else.
