Our family built this home in 1965 and have lived without air conditioning until now, and at long last we decided to take the plunge, but... how to pay for the increased electric bill? With solar PV of course! We hoped to find a company that could handle both, and got bids from several. Action AC was not the lowest bidder, but we liked their ideas (zone control, heat pump with backup furnace, larger capacity solar PV) and decided to go with them. We weren't disappointed. Once we decided on Action AC, they got us on their schedule promptly, took care of all permits, connected us with related contractors (we wanted to begin the whole project by sealing and insulating the attic and we needed to finish it with some framing and drywall work to make a closet out of the old furnace room), and even communicated on our behalf with those contractors to coordinate work and ensure quality. Greg Gill, the owner, knows his stuff and responds to requests effectively and fairly. Benjamin Jones, who manages the solar PV projects, is very communicative and personable and follows through promptly. For example, since we were going with solar panels we decided to get an electric car (Chevy Volt--we're loving that, too), and Benjamin jumped on board, included the solar PV capacity needed for both our car charging and new AC needs, and even included a level II charger as part of our job. Greg gave us what seems to be a thoughtfully designed HVAC system, and he suggested and followed through on some significant discounts that helped take the rough edges off the total cost of our projects. Action AC's crews were outstanding. We've seen crews who blew in and back out at warp speed before we had a chance to digest what they were doing, and others who seemed to take forever to get the job done. Action AC's crews were a nice blend of efficiency and care. They sure didn't waste any time, but they also didn't seem to want to cut corners--they appear to pride themselves in their work. Refreshing. Both the HVAC crew and the sub-contracted solar PV crew were hard-working and efficient, but communicative as well. So if we needed to make a decision or suggestion, they took time to discuss with us, consult with their managers or other technicians, as needed, and come up with a solution. We ended up having a lot of confidence in them and their work. We're very happy with our systems--both HVAC and solar PV. We'll be signing up for Action AC's HVAC maintenance contract, and we'll be spreading the word on this very dedicated and responsible group of people, who seem to be as excited about a good HVAC or solar PV design as you or I would be about our own home improvement project. read more

After receiving 3 quotes from 3 different companies in town I decided to go ahead and replace my old HVAC system with the new Lennox AC and heater purchased from Costco with Action AC as the main installation/service contractor. The sale reps from the other 2 companies simply gave me the pricing quotes but didn't tell me exactly what system (specific models, etc.) I was to get and that was not very assuring. Given the choice of either Lennox "platinum", "gold", or "silver" system I went with the "gold" one which was the Elite EL16XC1 series AC, Merit ML180UH series heater, Venstar digital thermostat (with wifi) ColorTouch T7850, and its companion wireless temperature sensor ACC-TSENWIFI. My air duct in the attic was also completely redone and all the air vent registers got replaced. The ColorTouch wifi thermostat and wireless temperature sensor were free upgrade as courtesy of Mario R., my comfort specialist, and Action AC. The smart phone apps, and user manuals must be properly followed in order to configured and sync the two. During the consultation Mario thoroughly explained to me the whole process and diligently did a walkthrough around the house to figure out a way to bring the whole system into the house. We ended up getting the large system through the side fence of the house because the front and side doors of the house weren't large enough. Eddie, Adrian, and Reuben appeared to be knowledgeable and were efficient during the installation of the system. At this writing we only have the system for a month and have been using the AC a few times but so far we're very happy with our decision. read more

We had our dual ACs and dual furnaces replaced thru Action Air/Costco. Only Lennox available per Costco, but consumer reports rates Lennox as top 10% as NOT needing repairs the first 5 years. Units are quieter and more powerful than our old units. Salesman Bob Feindt was pleasant, courteous, and had the right amount of follow-up and wriggle room on price beating out two other competitors. Lead installer Byron was absolutely awesome dealing with our difficult install which entailed several days work relocating these new units to the other side of the house for a future remodel. We didn't want conduits on the outside of the house, so this job was more difficult retrofitting thru the walls! Many challenges which Byron and crew Ben, Shannon, and Brian stayed calm and worked thru them. All were super courteous and super hard working, particularly Byron who with his Team, worked a bunch of overtime hours during a couple of the hottest days in Scripps Ranch to make our install near perfect. I'm a real discerning detailed customer and Byron was a real craftsman who satisfied us completely. Any comment or question we voiced, Byron would immediately, and very politely address. He and his team would work so hard they'd scarf a 15-20 minute lunch and jump right back to work. Only concern was Action AC seems to schedule their installs a bit tight and might want to inject a bit more time for difficult installs like ours. Time will tell the next year as we go thru hot and cold seasons, but for now, the Action Air and Byron & his team has a solid 5 rating from us here on Yelp!!! read more

From start to finish Action knocked it out of the park. I got multiple bids and I was surprised how different each company was. Action was the only company that presented me multiple options and educated me on all the different types of systems there are. I never knew how many existed. All the other companies tried to give me their pick and didn't really give me options. Needless to say I was never wowed by others and the white glove treatment from others was so over priced I'm not sure how those companies sleep at night. Action was head and shoulders above the other companies that came out. I ended up going with the Daikin Fit system through Action. I loved the fact that the outdoor unit was slim and the system was really quiet. Action was the only company who presented an option like that. While it wasn't the cheapest option, it made the most sense for our needs. They were booked out further than other companies, but it was worth the wait. I see why they have won best of San Diego multiple times. David A did my install and absolutely knocked it put of the park. He and his partner knocked out the install in 2 days. They were extremely clean, professional, knowledgeable, and had my system up and running in no time. The system is so quiet you can barely hear it when it's running. I've had the system now for 2 months and have loved every minute of its comfort. I keep our house at 72 degrees and it only raised my SDG&E bill by $90 a month. If you are thinking about getting a new system call Action, you won't regret it! read more

The bottom line is they were everything I could have hoped for and I highly recommend them. After last summer's extended heat wave, I decided it was time to install central AC. I also wanted new ducting and a new furnace for my 30-year old house. Calling around for estimates was pretty much a pig-in-a-poke exercise, but fortunately Action Air was one of the contractors I called. At the time I called, I didn't know they were associated with Costco. The other four companies that gave me an estimate were in and out in about 30 minutes, and only asked me what the square footage of my house is in order to calculate my "load." Eric from Action Air spent almost two hours with me, not only explaining things and answering questions, but measuring each room of the house and factoring in variables such as ceiling heights, my double-paned low-e windows, and my skylights. And he was the complete opposite of a pushy sales person, which I really appreciate. The two-day installation was smooth and very professional. The two installers, as well as everyone else I dealt with from the company were polite, friendly, and most importantly, knew their stuff. Because of their relationship with Costco, you get a Costco money card worth $100 for every $1000 you spend. I exchanged mine for cash at Costco with no problem at all. Just had a fantastic experience with this company. Came to them through Costco and had one of their sales guys come out to look at my unit. Long story short, my previous AC repair guy had looked at my less than 10 yr old AC and told me it needed to be fully replaced. Larry Swain from Action visited my house to give me a bid on the new system. What happened next was extremely surprising and frankly pretty rare in any business, let alone AC/HVAC repair/replacement. Larry said he believed I was being taken for a ride by my previous AC repair guy. He felt there was no reason to replace the system and even offered a quick fix of a leaky valve free of charge. I was shocked, simply shocked. In this day and age to have a company come out and not only be honest with you but actually fix your problem for free is just extraordinary. Larry knew it was a quick fix and empathized with a consumer who was being taken advantage of, 5 minutes of his time potentially saved me thousands. This is the height of integrity and honesty, and as Larry put it "this is how Action does business and it is how we have always done business." I've been a customer of Action Air for about 12 years. It started when I needed to replace the cooling unit in my wine cellar. The company I bought it from arranged for Action Air to install it. Ken was the technician they sent. He was amazing. He installed it, and offered a maintenance contract. I gladly accepted it, and on a regular basis I would receive a call telling me it was time. After a period of time, I asked Ken about a maintenance program for my air conditioning unit as well. He signed me up, and has taken care of that as well. After some time, it was time to replace the wine cellar unit. I called Ken, he took all measurements, photos, etc. The following day, Robert called me with a quote; and three days later Ken installed a new, self contained unit. Now, nothing can go wrong. Then recently, it was time to replace the air conditioner. Again, I wanted Ken to come out. This time he came out with a man from sales, they identified the problems and suggested a unit that would work much more efficiently. That was about a month ago, and everything is working great. All those 5 star ratings don't lie. I compared with 3 other possible contenders and felt like Action offered the most reasonable offer and I'm glad I made this choice to install a new AC and furnace in my house. Andy and George were the 2 techs doing the install and while I wasn't here during the install, my wife was, and she was very impressed with how diligently and courteous they both were. It was blistering hot the day they put the unit in and had to do a lot of work in the attic so I can't even imagine the working conditions that day but they were great and did a really good job. They ran across a glitch with the pre-installed Freon line from the attic through the wall to the outside in that either we or the previous owners of the house drove a nail into the drywall and hit the copper line dead center (1 cm to the right or left wouldn't have been a problem) so Andy and George had to spend extra time dealing with cutting out drywall, plugging the line, replacing and even re-painting the drywall where it looks almost good as new. They never complained about the hassle and were professionals all the way. I liked working with Bob the sales guy and just felt like these folks were straight shooters throughout. read more

Before the installers, I met with an amazing professional named Bob who was my consultant. From the time of our free In-Home estimate appointment to when the install was complete, Bob made sure the job was up to my expectations. He worked with me, asked tons of questions, and made sure he completely understood what I was looking for with the budget I had. He responded very quickly when I had more questions, and ensured me that only the best would come to the home. From initial inquiry to completion of the installation, I Action was superb. Bob inspected my home, logged in data and provided a detailed printout of options during the visit. He carefully reviewed my input and provided sensible guidance. Costco's incentives equalized Action's cost while enabling me to choose the most professional firm among the four I contacted. Later Bob and Casey visited to map out the installation plan. Subsequently, Bob helped me alter m basic system to provide more effective propane heating vs the heat pump I had initially requested to work with solar. Tim and Victor were the installers. They were both very professional and competent working diligently through the week to complete my complex installation involving new ducting, relocating the furnace, adding a/c and setting up three zones with Nest thermostat controllers. Our home AC unit completely quit on us, at the worst time (early August). My wife and I could survive without it, but we have two young children, and they just don't nap or sleep when it's 84 degrees INSIDE the house! We were fearing the worst, like several thousand for a new unit. My wife and I figured the best case scenario was going to be $500-600 for some repair. In the end, it was only a bad capacitor (a common problem, apparently). Finally charge: only $317. Since the repair was only half of our best-case scenario expectations, we went ahead and had some preventative/proactive work done on top of the repair to try to extend the life of our AC unit (14 years). Our technician was Bill. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and explained things in terms that non-HVAC people (like ourselves) could easily understand. He was on time, and super-efficient. The diagnosis, repair, and preventative work all only took around 45 minutes! We definitely recommend Action Air, and will be looking to have them do our regular HVAC cleaning and servicing in the future! read more

When I read some of the reviews I wondered if we were dealing with the same company. We contacted Action Air Conditioning and Heating (now Action Air Conditioning, Heating and Solar), to replace a 30+ year old furnace. We had previously replaced a furnace at another home which worked perfectly so we expected the same level of service and we got it. The high-efficiency furnace has worked with no problem for about two years now. We had the ducting replaced because it contained asbestos and we planned to add A/C down the road. The duct work was exactly what we wanted. They even replaced the ceiling grates. The recent heat wave reminded us that it was time to do the A/C. We contacted Action again and just like before, Tony came out and explaned our options. We had the matching A/C unit to the furnace installed and it was just as advertised. Both units are high efficiency, low energy unit which have saved us $$. They are quiet and reliable. Both product and support couldn't be better. I've used them three times now without a hitch. So two years ago my compressor stops working, the fan stops after ~30 minutes and the unit gets hot and shuts off. The HVAC company i called (to remain nameless - hint supported by Home Depot) come out and try to convince me the 10 year old unit is over the hill, the compressor is shot and I should spend $14K to replace the whole system. I didn't of course. Then one day walking through Costco, I signed up for Action Air to come out and give me a quote. Larry comes out and says, "so whats up". I tell him the story and he tests it and it looks good, but it fails after ~30 minutes. Larry recommended an experienced service technician check it out. Ken comes out (on time) and does a thorough analysis and in the end determines a loose connector at the capacitor is the likely cause of the overheating! He replaced the wire, replaced the capacitor for good measure, dressed up the cable management, and checked the system operation. Guess what, system works like a champ again for ~$300 service call. I will definitely use Action Air again and recommend them for honesty and quality. read more

We recently had a new Lennox Heater and AC installed by Action Air in Mira Mesa. Starting with the professionalism of Robert the sales Rep and the candidness of what needed to be done with the Duct system which was in bad repair due to rodents and a 30 plus life span. We had the ducting replaced. They came with a bid below the other quotes I received and the two other quotes were to "Patch up" the Ducting and it "should pass" the air leakage test??? Install was done by Ignacio, John and Sean. Great individuals and passionate about getting it all done right. Ignacio was great at explaining codes and the requirements set forth to comply with inspections. John and Sean did all the duct work and did a great job. I looked in the attic and it was a beautiful site compared to the old duct work. The install of the heater in the garage and the unit outside with the electrical work and plumbing looks amazing. Everything was cleaned up and looks great! We would highly recommend Action Air for your heating and cooling needs. read more

Update: After a phone call and subsequent visit from Action to inspect and service the new installation, my opinion of the business has improved. Their concern was sincere. Action installed a new central HVAC system in my home, which previously had none. Their pricing was competitive and the equipment is working well after 6 weeks, but the installation was sloppy. Most surprising was their attempt to cut live wires in the attic in order to move them. There were sparks and lights flickering, and it was loud. I heard one tech say that it looked like a roman candle. There were more wires to cut so I suggested shutting off the main breaker, which they did. Their explanation for not doing so before was that it was old and might not work (house built in '74,) yet they also expressed surprise that no breakers tripped when they cut the wire. The other issue was air leaks around about 1/3 of the air handler's perimeter, and duct/foil tape lifting. I've tried fixing the leaks myself as I don't think they would do better. read more

I just moved into a new home and had AC installed and my 30 year old heater replaced. I had 3 other estimates before meeting a neighbor that had used Action Air recently and was very happy with his installation experience. Steven Gill came out and gave me an estimate and a detailed account of the process. He also was able to set me up with a no interest loan for one year. He really knows his business. The estimate was significantly lower than the other estimates AND they use Lennox equiptment which is excellent quality. I had Byron and Egnissio as my installers and they were great as well. It was a big job because my house never had AC before so it was pretty involved and they were fast, efficient, and it went so smoothly. I was so nervous because it is a big expense I want to say I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I saved thousands of dollars, got fantastic service and top notch equipment that will add value to my home. Here in Oceanside, CA. My overall experience with Action was fabulous. I had the Lennox Elite Series 2-Stage Heat Operation furnace, with the Lennox Merit Series Air Conditioner, 5.0 ton capacity, installed, which I purchased through Costco. Rafael, Finn, and Gilbert were prompt, clean, professional, attentive, and just super pleasant to be around. My favorite moment was when Gilbert asked permission to enter the rooms upstairs (where our bedrooms are). Even though I knew that he would need access to the bedrooms in order to change out the vents in each room, I so appreciated the respectful nature of the question! The installation had a few hiccups which were resolved to my satisfaction. I find, as with any service in my home, it pays for me to be there, be attentive, and respectfully ask questions. There were a few things I noticed and wanted changed; the installers were absolutely responsive and did what I asked. The system is quiet and doing exactly what I want it to do!! Yippee! We have a 2 unit air conditioning system (2 story house). Several months ago the downstairs unit stopped working. After talking to friends and neighbors and checking on-line reviews we called Action Air-conditioning for service. Bill Sanford was our repair expert. He was on time, professional, friendly, efficient, and extremely knowledgeable. He not only repaired the unit but examined our system and found a duct problem in our attic which meant lint from our dryer was being blown into our attic. He fixed that and even removed the lint. We were so impressed by this company and Bill, we signed up for their service, knowing we would undoubtedly need future service calls. Fast forward to the heat surge we have had this past week. Our other air conditioner stopped working. We called and asked to have Bill be scheduled for our repair. Same awesome service by Bill.
