Woke up smelling a chemical this morning and had a headache, sent a request on Yelp to check if this company can offer help or at least gain some knowledge of It the smell was from the ac. When the dispatcher called back she said they are 2 weeks out because they are helping people with small children and others that do not have air. (Something to that extent.) From what I have extensively read, In most cases it really boils down to the installation of the equipment. With communicating HVAC systems many of the systems problems are due to faulty installation as some installers don't have the experience or expertise to do it correctly. Unfortunately the estimate received was well beyond what we could justify spending and not stress out - as this was more of a want than need. Easy to call and schedule, and I did not have to wait weeks for an appointment. The tech guys came sooner than expected (good thing) in a company van, wore work uniforms on and acted professionally. Within the hour, they got the problems identified and fixed. However this did not come cheap, and to mitigate the higher than expected bill, the tech did offer me a yearly service plan for a $20.00 @month. It covered parts and labor and if I recall, included a summer service call to inspect both AC and furnace units. By signing up, got a $100.00 discount on my repair bill. Did not mind paying more for a professional and fast service. Just wish, during my initial call, the representative had mentioned me those pricing options and plan, so I knew what to expect. I highly recommend Approved Air Conditioning and Heating! Mike and his son Nathan not only matched a deal that we'd gotten from another company but it was great to know exactly who would be in our home for the several days it took to do the install. Our home was built in 1976 so not only did it not have A/C, our furnace and ducting was original and very, VERY dated (and non-efficient to the max). We had a new furnace, new ducting, A/C of course, and a few additional vents cut/installed. They were very professional and kept the place as clean as possible, vacuuming as they cut and as they went. They even sealed off the vent in our baby's room to keep any additional dust out until the very last moment! Their price and guarantees are great and it feels good to know that you're supporting a local Father & Son business. We're of course not hoping for a hot summer but we're excited that we won't have to suffer any longer if it does come. We used the heat once or twice after the install and it was fantastic - you really could feel a huge difference (as in it actually heated up the house) from beforehand. When we tested the AC I was freezing within a matter of minutes - I had to beg the guys to shut it off! Our only "complaint" about them is that we really didn't get any guidance or "final walk through" once the install was done; I'd made sure my husband was home for the final day but other than Nathan telling us about the app for the unit and a super quick run down on how to connect it we weren't given much direction. I'm not docking any stars - I just think a quick run down on what is what would've been nice. They were always on time and cleaned up the garage each night so that we could pull our cars back in. Shortly after the visit, he sent over a contract with the pricing and a description of the work to be completed. My husband and I went with Approved Air because of Mike- he came across as an intelligent professional who would do a great job for a reasonable price. We scheduled the work to be done a few months after the estimate. Mike and his son showed up at 8 am the day the job started and stayed all day. They showed up again on the second day at 8 am and completed the job. How often do you get a very good price, combined with a contractor that does exactly what they say they are going to do, and they start and finish on time? That was my experience with Approved Air Conditioning and Heating located in Vista, CA. My project was a lot of work and Mike Gentry could have come up with any number of reasons why it was going to take longer. When I saw him working routinely from 7:30 AM until 6:30 PM I knew he'd get it done. My project entailed 2 furnaces, 2 A/C units, 2 electronic air cleaners, and 2 UV lights...in 2 different locations in the house. I interviewed 6 different vendors...many of them the big names in San Diego County. Sales people of these companies would come and recommend the equipment and you never got to meet the actual folks installing. I've learned from handling numerous contractors in the past that you get better workmanship from owner\operator contractors providing they have experience and good client ratings. I always check out their truck...if there is no pride in how they maintain their own equipment I avoid them. From the beginning it was apparent Mike Gentry knew what he was talking about and did not try to oversell me. He also didn't nickel and dime me with changes...he routed an A/C discharge line to the outside of my house where I could harvest the condensation water for irrigation. Furthermore, Mike and his son Nathan cleaned up after themselves as the work progressed. I felt totally confident leaving them alone in my home. They also applied for approval as a YGrene Contractor (recommended over Hero) so I could get a better interest rate. His son Nathan helped me download the APP's for control of the Honeywell 9000 thermostats on my I-Pad. It's sweet lying in bed in the AM and firing up both furnaces.
