Just like many others, I have called and emailed for service and I can not receive a call back. Stay away from this company. There are so many other solar companies that will provide service. This is NOT one of them. Fail! I wished I never did business with them. All solar systems will require service from time to time. Pick a company that actually gets good reviews for service. While I did have a bad experience with GR8 Energy previously regarding help with an enphase gateway, I found out that this was due to the company going out of business for a time due to the challenging political climate solar installers and homeowners have found themselves in. After posting my initial review, the owner did reach out to me and help direct me on how to get help, which in my case was simply utilizing the warranty through Enphase. Further more, I have recently used GR8 Energy to install a home battery system for emergency backup power and as a way to minimize my electric bill. GR8 Energy thoroughly answered all my questions and helped build a system which matched my needs and expectations within a budget that I was comfortable with. Installation and detail to work went seamlessly and the work crew were polite, respectful, and ensured that I understood how to use the Enphase App to manage my battery system. To conclude, I was very pleased with the sales and installation experience, and have been so far pleased with the new home battery back up system. I've called and left a message with a person who took my contact information, and said she would inform Ross. I have not received a response. Just look at other reviewer comments on this site. Had multiple issues with the install. First the ballasts they used weren't approved by the inspector, which delayed the process and caused additional thousands of dollars to be added to the cost. Then there were some issues with getting the inspection approval. Then issues with the PTO. Then issues with the voltage of the system which caused more delays and more thousands of dollars. This all took almost 2 years and about $6k additional to the project. Then after a few months of the system mostly working, it has stopped responding and generating, and I haven't been able to reach anyone at GR8 energy for over a month. This has caused the system to be a huge time and money sink without generating nearly enough in terms of energy bills to offset the cost. read more

I'll just start by saying that Earl Kapule, GR8 Energy's sales person, is awesome at explaining everything there is to explain about solar. The process of purchasing and everything that goes along with that was an easy experience. The problems that I've experienced have come after the fact. I'll start with the latest and work my way back. For months now, I have received a message indicating that the Envoy is not reporting. The app provides you with a step by step on how to resolve this. I followed the exact steps, yet it did not solve the problem. I called their office and was able to get someone to check things out. This was the week prior to Thanksgiving. He mentioned that another app was needed that only employees had to sync the Envoy to my wifi. Still nothing. He mentioned that the antenna on the Envoy might not be working. He called the office and mentioned that someone would contact me on Thursday of that week. He said that he would come back as well. I don't remember his name, but I have his phone number. I texted and called him, but no return call or text. I've called and left several messages on the company voicemail. I guess no one picks up. I thought that maybe it was because of the Thanksgiving holiday, but I've called since then and I get the same voicemail message. I've sent emails and nothing. I also sent a text message to Earl Kapule, the sales person, to see if he could help me reach someone that can help. I still have not heard from anyone. So I mentioned that this was the latest of events. Here is the other item. GR8 Energy offers a referral program. If I refer someone, and they purchase, you get a monetary compensation. After the great customer service that Earl Kapule demonstrated, I was more than happy to refer my friends who were seeking solar panels. The first referral that went through was not a problem. I was compensated soon after my friend had solar panels installed. The second one was the problem. Again, my friend had his solar panels installed. The app where you have to submit the refer had a pending payment for the longest time. I felt bad that I had to keep reaching out to Earl about this. It got to the point where he just paid me out of his own pocket and that he would get reimbursed from GR8 Energy. It took over 6 months before I given the referral compensation. I've had other friends inquire about getting solar. They have asked for information through GR8 Energy. I don't feel right about recommending GR8 Energy. It's not because of Earl. Like I said, he was awesome. I would give him 5 stars here. But the customer service is horrible. read more

What a great company to work with! I looked for a solar company through yelp and got a few calls and quotes. I went with this company because I felt comfortable talking with Ross and the price I was given was fair and within the range of the others. After talking to Ross, he sent one of his colleagues right away, Hebert, to check out the property and do some measurements. He also came by to visit and checked out the property at a later time. He answered all of our questions whenever we came up with it, no matter the time of day (I texted after their hours). I think it is very important to feel at ease when dealing with businesses and we were. They took care of everything paperwork related through emails (signing, etc...) they scheduled our RMA with SDGE and the minute sdge was done, Hebert and his team were here the very next day! They are very courteous and knocked on the door when they got here and when they were leaving. They cleaned up after themselves and again, the professionalism was there! Oh! And they painted all the conduit to match our house color as well... which turned out nicely. Now, we are just awaiting for the final inspection from sdge and off or on the grid we go! Also, just waiting on the email for the app for us to download and monitor our usage but they said it'd be a couple days... almost to the finish line!! My first year on Solar and SDG&E just sent ME a check! I posted last September, 2017 right after my new Solar system was installed. My "True Up" bill from SDG&E just came and after 1 year of use (October 2018) they paid me $100. So no monthly SDG&E bill anymore and my usage from SDG&E was less than I actually produced! I was in the market for a solar system and I took the time to meet with 8 vendors. I used Yelp to find most of them and after talking to all of them, I decided to use GR8. Ross took the time to explain various options and we went back and forth via emails and texts and then we made a decision on a system that met all my needs. There were many moving pieces due to my 100 A service. One of the most important decision was to come up with a solution that is expandable (not using up the entire service panel) and trouble-free​ for years to come. This meant going with a RMA from SDG&E and installing micro-inverters​ rather than using a single phase inverter. Ross was patient and also took the time to generate multiple quotes for me. After we made the decision to go with GR8, the process was pretty straight forward. Ross and his company took care of the paperwork for Net metering application and the installation of the RMA and the permit for the solar system. Ross, Grace and the GR8 crew did the installation after the successful installation of the RMA and everything went quickly and without any issues. I couldn't be more happy with the whole process. I am pleased with my decision to go with GR8. We now have a solar system that produces energy that meets our needs and at a reasonable cost. After an exhaustive search for a company to work with, I was fortunate to find GR8 Energy to do my solar installation. Both Ross and Grace Fockler are great to work with and were pleasant and courteous in answering my questions and keeping me informed. The terrific service carried on with the installation crew including Rafael, Hebert and Omar. They had all the panels installed on the roof in one day and returned on a following day to finish the wiring, which included a panel upgrade, and system activation. Gr8 Energy what can I say only good things, I found them on Yelp and due to the high ratings I ended up going with them. I got a total of three estimates one from Costco one from Home Depot and these guys had better ratings and best price. After they did my estimate I didn't follow through not sure why but after about a month something told me to jump on the solar train. I emailed Ross the owner from the previous email he sent me and we got the ball rolling. He gave me different options to pay for it and that was nice to have. We got financing lined up and they were ready to install I think we even jumped the gun a bit because I live in a gated community with an association and thought they were going to handle all that but when I remembered it was the sales guy from Costco that offered to deal with my association. So after they were working on the solar I asked Ross to email me the plans and just forwarded them to the association along with the signatures. One of my neighbors was mad that we didn't get the signatures before the work started but we're still trying to get used to the association BS oh well at our old place we'd just do it not bothering to ask anyone. Overall our solar system works great they turned it up before we got the ok from SDG&E we were producing power and it was going into the grid but not getting paid for it until I got the email from SDG&E with the authorization to perform. So now I don't pay a monthly power bill just pay a loan payment which is a lot less than my normal bill so it is a win win. They did NOT try to upsell me, in fact they made sure I had just the right amount of panels to cover my usage with a reasonable amount of surplus for any future incremental needs. I'm super happy with the result both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. I have been blasting my A/C all summer and I'm still creating more kWh than I'm using (yay!!). Also worth mentioning: they partner with a bank that allows you to buy down the interest rate which is nice, and if you also need a new roof as part of the project, they have great partnerships there too. Response is extremely bad once you take service from gr8 energy. I got installed panels from them more then a year back. I plan to buy electric car so asked for a quote from Ross and Grace from Gr8 energy but there was no response for months. I was not expecting that so I called them. They told me that I need to take appointment and gave me time to talk after three days. I got a call, we spoke about 5 to 6 additional panels but again no response for almost a week. I am surprised how this kind of service level is surviving in such a competitive world. Hope this helps other customers who are in process of making a decision on solar panel installation agency. We are very pleased with everyone at GR8 Energy... we did a lot of research and met with 7 companies... Ross, owner, was great from the first meeting, and was able to give a very good comparable price for a very nice high-end product. After a lot of flipping back and forth on brands, budget, etc, and bugging Ross for about 6 or 7 different proposals, which he happily did, we decided on Panasonic 330w, are very pleased we did. These panels are really really nice. GR8 was able to jump on the project very quickly, which also involved a new roof. Ross took care of it all. Overall, I'm happy with the installation, but I'm dissatisfied with the attention that I have gotten as a customer. My dashboard was showing zero production from the system for weeks, and they never did anything to fix it. After I got tired of waiting, I downloaded the configuration software and fixed it myself. I'm also slightly dissatisfied with the amount of energy being produced by the system. I was told my energy bill would completely disappear, but I am still seeing about $10-$20 a month in electricity costs, plus the cost of the loan payments. EDIT: Since posting this review, I have seen a profound increase in effort put forth by Ross and his team. Our project took a long time. Installed in January and not up and running until March. After posting a bad review and contacting the company by telephone, we received lots of action on our project. Within a week, our project went through inspection and some hassles with our area's inspector caused a delay. GR8 energy sent their technicians to our home to make the changes required by the inspector on multiple occasions. They came through and we are up and running. They additionally offered to cover our cost for our electric bills for the long delay in our project. We are happy with the product we received thus far. My wife and I met with several other contractors over the course of our search for the right solar company, and in the end it was a no brainer to work with GR8 Energy. Where most of the other providers seemed more interested in selling a particular product they specialized in, or pressuring us to go with a more costly overall project, Ross was straightforward with what he saw our needs were. In fact, he went out of his way to make sure that we were not going to over spend on any of the aspects of installing a solar system (in some instances without us specifically asking)! I will also say that this was a very customer oriented process that Ross and his team provided us. We were never pressured to hurry up and make any decision. We looked into several different options in terms of panel and inverter manufacturers, and he was always happy to oblige us with new cost estimates. Our original installation about 3 years ago was great, knowledgeable staff and competitive pricing. The two star review is based on recent experience with them not cooperating with our roofer to help determine the source of a roof leak. We have been trying to work with Ross for a month to have his company remove a few panels so the roofer can find the source of the roof leak. We have left numerous phone calls, the roofer has gone out of his way to be available to come out any day/time that is convenient for GR8. With more rain coming, we need to get this resolved. I contacted them about a Mitsubishi ductless AC question on accident as I was trying to find companies that has certified installers in San Diego. Ross was the first person to call me back. Although he does not install any AC units, he kindly offered to give me referrals via his contact at Mitsubishi and sent the information to me a few minutes later.
