We were very happy with our choice of San Diego County Solar. They upgraded our main electrical panel (and handled all the communications and interactions with SDG&E so we didn't have to,) installed solar panels on our roof, installed a Tesla Backup Switch, and installed a new Tesla Powerwall battery. They managed the whole project, kept us informed, scheduled all necessary inspections, and obtained Permission to Operate from SDG&E. They also did a great job of working with the roofing company we selected to install a new roof. They communicated directly with the roofer (so we didn't have to serve as a middleman in the communications,) and coordinated schedules with them to ensure the mounts for the solar panels were installed at the correct point in the roofing process. Some other aspects of the business relationship we liked: San Diego County Solar did not request final payment (50% of the total) until we had Permission To Operate from SDG&E and were satisfied that the project was thoroughly completed. They were very responsive to emails and phone calls from us during the entire project. They also sat down with us at the end of the project to walk us through all the new hardware and software we received, and gave us a nice binder full of all the warranties, manuals, and reference materials we need to manage our installation going forward. First off, they answer the phone. I didn't need to leave a message. It was difficult to find a company to help me with a SolarEdge warranty problem. But, even though they didn't install my equipment, and they are very busy, with the solar tax credit issue, they went out of their way to work me through the problem. I am neutral about SolarEdge equipment, as they are a bit difficult to deal with despite their very good warranty. My thanks go to Tim of the SD County Solar service department for quickly replacing my defective SolarEdge inverter. Originally our residential system was installed by Sullivan. So when it stopped working, I couldn't go back to our installer for help. I left phone messages at three local solar companies. Two called back. One company offered to talk to me on the phone for a charge of $99. Ugh. By contrast, Tim talked to me on the phone three times, coaching me carefully about how to deal with the manufacturer to get an under warranty replacement inverter. But the latter installers suffer from being only able to offer a certain brand or two of panels, a limited range of Inverters (not able to use say, module optimizers or microinverters) - and no special installations. Moreover one is made to feel more like a number, rather than working with Craftspersons. And the former are still earning their chops with the latest fun technologies.... So when I was got a good, fair Price Quote from Mike Davidson, and he and his Asst. Matty confirmed they could do a custom, Solar Carport with lovely mono panels, with SolarEdge Optimizers and Sensors for Temp and Irradiance, I was happy to enlist them for my Solar. Mike is a magician! We had been thinking about solar for a while but weren't really planning to do it any time soon, and then in late February we found out about the March 30th deadline for better rates from SDG&E and figured we should try to jump on it before we missed that opportunity.
