Three years after installing solar panels we decided to upgrade and add a battery storage backup system. It allows us to use our solar power when the power goes out. Can't be more happy! Ok, so I bought my house in 2020 and in my past rentals (I wasn't in Escondido) I rarely had to run my air so fast forward to I move into my house middle of Summer in Escondido and it's soooo hot so I have to run my air non stop I was shocked when I got my electricity bill it was minimum $600 in summer, so I decided to possibly look into solar but the sales people were always so pushy it was such a turn off I decided to hold off. Fast forward and the least expensive SDGE bill even when not running ac or heat was about $250. My average bill over the past 3 years is about $550 per month. I got phone calls and people knocking on my door all the time offering solar but again they were very pushy and often rude... one day on my drive home I got a call from a local number I answered and it was a guy offering solar but he was actually nice (Ben is his name) and not pushy so I actually said to him ok you know what you aren't rude and pushy I would be happy to hear what the owner Peter has to say so two days later Peter comes over and goes over what he suggested for my solar plan I was of course asking a ton of questions I'm sure being super annoying and he answered everything without being pushy, without getting annoyed and was just very matter of fact so I ended up moving forward. Another thing is I have friends that were getting solar too, two other houses and mine was done before theirs and they started their process before I did. Both friends it took over a year from start to finish to get their solar installed, mine was done within 4 months and the entire process was so easy between Peter and his wonderful assistant in the office Laura who stayed on top of everything to make sure the process went smoothly. Let's talk about installation day... the guys were on time, so professional, and they did such clean work. They cleaned up everything so nicely and I don't know if you have ever noticed but not all solar is created equally take a look on people's houses you will notice that the solar isn't positioned clean. Anyway so they get me all set up and I have this app where I can see how much energy I'm producing which I am obsessed with and I just got my first month bill (with solar you pay SDGE once a year, it's called a true up will) and my true up so far was only $50!!!!! I'm so happy!!! I mean I am SO HAPPY! So my solar is costing me $300 a month until I pay it off, yes, it's an investment but I'm still paying $200 less per month that I was before so it's a WIN and when solar is paid off it will be even more amazing. I am always skeptical of large purchases where I have limited knowledge. I called about 5 companies, including Costco, before I called Peter at 180. Peter was the only one that sounded engaged in what I was looking for and even understood and minimized my skeptical concerns. We like our solar panels and system. It has brought our electricity bills down from about $300/month to less than $200/year. We designed the solar array to cover about 75% of our usage, and we ended up producing 130% of our needs, all of which went back to SDG&E. When we started paying attention to our usage, we naturally started conserving more, buying more efficient appliances, etc. Our problem is the roof. Before our panels were installed, we asked if we would need a new roof, and they said no, our 25-year-old roof was in good shape. Within about 8 months, we noticed roof leaks in our living room. The cathedral ceiling rising up from the fireplace showed horizontal lines with spacing that exactly matched our solar panels just above the ceiling. 180 Solar came out to investigate and pointed out several flaws in our roof and said that the leak had nothing to do with the panels. More recently, we have had other roofing companies come out and tell us that it really was the panels that were causing the leaks. The leaks stopped for a year or two due to lack of rain, but they've been back during the past year. 180 Solar has offered to give us an estimate on how much it would cost them to come out and remove the panels so we could replace our roof, but we haven't heard from them yet regarding a $ figure. The other companies say that we could lose our solar warranty if someone else worked on the system. It would have been nice if 180 Solar had let us know our roof was bad before they installed the panels, 8 months before our leaks began, but it didn't happen that way. We like having solar panels, but are frustrated regarding our roof. I guess my advice is to get professional roofers to come out and check your roof, rather than relying the solar installers to give an honest evaluation. read more

I've heard some real nightmares about solar panel installation. I would love to say we did our research... but the truth is, from the friendly cold call knock on the door to a very no-pressure and informative consultation from Rob Laverty, we felt comfortable proceeding with 180 Solar Power. I appreciate the time this company took to explain financing options, answer questions and even hop on the roof with me to take sun readouts and problem solve the shape of trees we didn't want to cut down. Peter Stern was incredibly helpful and engaged in making sure we had a layout that would provide the most output while also keeping us happy. After a misunderstanding with our roofing contractor, Peter was quick to step in. The installers were very pleasant - taking time to explain the schedule and process. They were very respectful of existing landscaping and didn't leave behind a scrap of trash. Furthermore, the inspection process following installation was a breeze! Communication from Ashley Bailey in the office was informative and every single 180 Solar Power employee I interacted with was courteous and respectful. I had idly considered going solar for some time but didn't really know anything about it and hadn't bothered to find out. I DID know I desperately needed a new roof for a solar installation and just to stay dry! One day I noticed a flier in my mail from 180 solar. The ad presented both a technical and financial perspective, and the strong-arm methods I'd been seeing on TV were absent. I decided to call 180 Solar and after a pleasant consultation, agreed to hire them to bring us solar power. First, the roof was replaced, including the fascia and 20+ sheets of plywood. My thirty-year-old roof was in really bad shape but the finished new roof is stunning. The roofer who works with 180 Solar is a real professional and I couldn't be happier with his crew's efforts. While the roof was being done, our electrical panel was upgraded and then the inverters and panels were installed, also a neat, professional installation job done by that team. Thanks Peter, Steve and Steve! On December 11th, SDG&E gave us authorization to operate the system. 180 solar also set us up with on-line access to our system's data so I can keep an eye on what's going on daily, monthly and annually. The computer nerd I am likes that. I still need to have a couple of eucalyptus trees trimmed to remove shade and maximize the energy output from the panels, but I'm seeing the output I expected. I was referred to 180 Solar Power from a co-worker who had them install a system at his house in the Temecula area. Their prices were very competitive compared to the leading companies in the area. I was specifically looking to get an over-powered system compared to my last year's SDG&E bill so I could get an electric car. 180 worked directly with my HOA to get approval and were very accommodating as I secured financing. The job took a day longer than anticipated but I'm glad they took the extra time to make sure it was done right. They fixed a roof tile that cracked AND they found a few others no where near the panels that they also replaced since they had a couple extra! Peter was good about keeping me up to date with SDG&E's process and we were online within a week from job completion. I got the system installed in May and the power generated really offset the use of my AC this past summer. Only one word of caution - the post office in their area tends to lose mail and a few things I sent to them never arrived or came back to me looking like a lion got a hold of it. A little over a year ago I decided to take the leap and go solar. I had already replaced my grass with turf, my roses with drought resistant plants and was suffering with a continuously growing SDG&E bill. Replaced all my light bulbs with LED's - helped but only slightly. Getting ready to retire I knew I was either going to freeze or melt because my income was not going to be able to manage the ever growing electric bills. I contacted 180 Solar Power and scheduled an appointment with Peter Stern. He didn't call me - I called him. He came to my home - had me show him my SDGE bills that showed usage, etc. and developed a solar efficient solution (that, to be honest I was a bit skeptical of) and a schedule for implementation. I checked out their credentials with the BBB and customer recommendations, listened to a few other competitor presentations - and eventually took the leap into 180 Solar Power. I needed to do some roof repair - Peter gave me the name of a quality roofer, Scott, who proved to be outstanding, then the panels were installed in a timely fashion - right on schedule as Peter had promised. From the day the panels were installed - I have not had to pay one - not one! electric bill and it's been 14 months. I went from a $600 - $700 a month bill to -$100 - -$69 a month bill each and every month (yes, negative amounts). I only pay for gas - which is around $50-$80 / month, I can monitor the solar production daily on my computer and have nothing but praise and thanks to Peter Stern and his staff. All I can say is "WOW"! We set appointments with three major (heavily advertised) solar providers and then on a lark called 180 Solar Power (they had great Yelp reviews). The three majors came and did their "dog and pony" shows and were all very impressive. Then Peter came out from 180 Solar. He not only pointed out the flaws in what we had been told (without bad mouthing any competitor) but also proceeded to solve our solar needs and at less money. Then within a week our system plans were approved by the city and the system was installed. When their crew was done it was impossible to tell that construction had even happened. Two days later the city inspector said it was a picture perfect job and that he was really impressed. We are too and we are looking forward to our $5 per month electric bill (we have an all electric home with average bills in the $300 per month range). We selected 180 Solar after interviewing several companies and found Peter to be genuine and hard working. After much initial paperwork and miscommunication (unrelated to us) they were pretty speedy in getting our solar installed. The reason I am giving them a 3 is due to poor communication. We were not kept up to date regularly on what was happening and what the next steps were. We missed a couple of appointments because people showed up at our house without prior notice or scheduling. We came home in the middle of the installation with no one to be found and a new ground wire coming out of our house. Again, no explanation until we called. Once the project was done we eventually had to call them about when they wanted us to send the final check. (Previously, the office secretary had come to our house to pick up checks). We also were given an app and eventually my husband figured it out but it would have been nice to get a bit more guidance. Overall ok, but the customer service is lacking and there are a LOT of solar companies to choose from. read more

My biggest fear I had before the installation,was if they were going to damage my roof. After having the system for a year and going through a few very heavy rains, I have not had any problems. I don't do a lot of reviews, but there are certain experiences that are either so terrible, or so wonderful that you just can't help but give a review. In this case it's the latter. My husband and I were a little skeptical about getting solar because there's so many companies out there and we just didn't know who to trust. I was kind of paralyzed by indecision. But, I really wanted it because I love to run the air conditioning and my husband doesn't like to see how it makes my bills go up in the summer. Also it seems my bills keep going up every year. A friend of ours used 180 solar power and he loved the experience so much he couldn't stop raving about it. So we met with a solar rep right away we both felt very comfortable. He was straight to the point and he gave us a very good deal. I had had a couple other quotes in the past and the other guys that came out were way too pushy and their price wasn't even as good. Everything he said he would do for us he did which I really appreciated. I had a lot of questions and he had no problem answering them.
