We were also extremely fortunate that an earlier installation slot opened up, allowing HPM to fit us in just in time to take advantage of the expiring tax credit -- something we truly appreciated. The installation crew was excellent: professional, efficient, and respectful of our property. They did great work and made sure everything was cleaned up before they left, which really showed their attention to detail and pride in their work. Sun Run was out of the question, and even Tesla themselves weren't able to meet the final project demands when they first designed my system. OC Solar was the only who actually met my needs and were on top of the whole project timeline. Look no further than these guys. Shaun was so incredibly thorough, honest (there were points where he told me that because of my super low energy costs in Azusa, the system really wasn't necessary) and over-communicated throughout the process. I've recommended him to family in the area. Big fan. I ended up moving to it honestly because I wanted the future equity addition to the home and...because I thought it was badass to have solar :) We had issues with my HOA and the city of Azusa (confusion on their ends) and his team handled the months of back and forth with ease and grace. The job took 4-days, really 3.5-days with the first 0.5 being a crew who peeled off the old shakes the first day and some supply delivery. 2nd was delivering more supplies, checking for dry rot, replacing as needed, and starting the plywood, and waterproofing. 3rd was shingling and gutters (separate crews), 4th finishing everything up including painting the vents to match with the new roof. I was first approached by REC Solar while shopping at Costco where a young man took the time to introduce me to REC Solar and their 10 year partnership with Costco. I learned that REC had put full solar systems into more than 40 Costco Warehouse Stores and that REC had a huge cost advantage through the tremendous Volume they purchased in their partnership with Costco. I was talking to several other Solar Companies about installing solar on my home so I gave him my name and contact information and a time for an at home meeting with one of their sales representatives. A few weeks later, armed with extensive competitive information, Amir Maki, from REC came over on a Saturday around 2 PM. Amir turned out to be an amazing representative for REC. Unlike the competitors who pushed hard to close the deal right away, Amir patiently answered all our questions. He carefully walked us through our Southern California Electric Company bill and pointed out areas we could potentially save using solar. He took the time to tell us about the origin of the solar panels and the very high quality they represented. Amir had done a lot of homework before he came. He had our past year electric bills and had used Google Earth to bring to life what he felt was the best design for our home. He recommended the maximum number of solar panels he calculated that would fit on our southern exposed roof and laid out a proposal that would provide me the maximum benefit from these solar panels as they would receive full sunlight for the entire day and provide power at 100% of each panel's capability. He explained how using other areas of the roof with different facings would denigrate the maximum utilization and recommended we consider the design. His proposal for the solar was based on the finance option I chose which was one where the solar financing company owned the panels and is 100% responsible for their maintenance and upkeep for the next 20 years. After twenty years I will own the panels and can elect to continue in a similar plan or just take over and enjoy the all the savings. The panels are guaranteed for 25 years. The pricing proposal gave us a set fixed rate every month that will not ever go up over the 20 year agreement (Unlike my electric bill that goes up 5% to 15% per year). I will still have a bill from Southern California Electric for the months that my power usage exceeds the solar production. I earn a credit for the excess power produced. The estimate is that my Southern California Electric Bill will average less that $25 per month. All in all my savings over the previous year is estimated to be almost $900 in year one and I will avoid the price increases from Edison (they are asking for 15% next year to help offset the closing of The San Onofre Nuclear Plant. We signed up with Amir that very day. He gave us four hours of his time as we had many questions. He followed up on everything we discussed, still keeps in touch, kept a close eye on our installation has become a real friend. He explained that an engineer would visit to be sure his initial design was feasible. The engineer sent me a design showing all the panels fit and where they would be as well as the placement of meters and new electric panel. With the utmost confidence I recommend Amir Maki to anyone considering Solar. I have also learned that Amir is very typical of the culture at REC Solar. Their entire customer service staff is exceptionally proactive and very quick to respond to a phone call. After signing our only fear was the installation but that was done directly by REC Solar and there was no need to worry. They obtained the permits from my city (La Verne, CA), scheduled the installation in advance and were absolutely the most professional workers I have ever had. In three days my house was completely wired (including a new electric panel to meet city requirements), the new meters were installed and the solar panels were in place the system was tested and the city inspector came and approved their work that very day. After a short wait on Edison for final approval our system was turned on this month. REC has a website where they post your usage daily taken from their meters via wireless signal. Since mine has started I have used less power than my panels are producing and Edison's website estimates my bill in February will not exceed their minimum charge of $9.00 per month. In fact they sent a letter saying my bills from them will be so low they will now only bill me annually. REC Solar, Amir Maki, REC's Customer Service and Installation Teams are simply the best there is. One final thought - REC Solar's proposal was the least most expensive of the companies I received proposals from. AMAZING! My complaint starts with this being the 3erd time I reported to your company that you need to educate your employees. Maybe their ignorance is shared by management/ ownership. Time to be schooled: When someone has placed postings in clear visible view stating "NO SOLICITING" followed by defining what that means and giving examples of what is considered SOLICITING, if your employee or representative of your business ignores,continues, &/ or argues the fact that this IS a law that needs to be followed, I highly suggest re-education and/ or termination of employment if continued. Especially when a resident of a home has to make it clear verbally & by physically pointing to the large sign laminated in the middle of their front door in order to reiterate the importance of what is being said. . Illiterate he may be, but once told that I was not interested, even after being lied to when the kid was acting as though he worked for some large corporation, that was taking names of neighbors and stating they were "going to be fighting Edison in court over their high costs", is breaking all kinds of laws. I.e. impersonation, false advertising, misrepresentation, fraud, slander, defamation,, etc.. & could be followed up by my calling the police making a report, & suing in court, leading to my victory, & possibly opening up more cases involving other neighbors, anyone he collected personal information from under false pretenses, & SCE would follow I'm sure. To have an immature punk kid tell me, " no I'm wrong", doesn't look good for you. #1 I am correct & it's unlawful & I didn't need to give a warning. My posting was sufficient enough to sue if I so choose. #2 when initially asked if he was SOLICITING he responded "No!" You wasted my time on 3 occasions now... the 4th will be addressed to you in writing, just because you received so many negative reviews and complaints with BBB & changed your name your business/CEO/COO/PRESIDENT/OWNER are still held responsible. #3 To make matters worse for you on all counts... that was the same ignoramus that came to my door last time with the same approach just different set up. Sounding official w/ clipboard to take name s & #s, breaking all the same laws. Which means 1) you didn't fire the rude kid that when he didn't hear what he wanted last time ... had the nerve to raise his voice and puffed his chest out when he demanded "I'm here to speak to the real boss of the house. The man of the house!", No man lives in this house. I strongly recommend that homeowners do very careful homework before signing anything with Sunrun, especially under California's NEM 3.0 / Solar Billing Plan environment. I evaluated Sunrun as part of a broader solar + battery proposal process. Their proposal was dramatically more expensive than competing bids -- roughly $45,000 more than the next highest proposal and about $70,000 more than the contractor I ultimately selected for a comparable solar and battery project. The bigger concern, though, was not just the price. Sunrun pushed lease/VPP-style structures very hard, and the economics were terrible. One lease path would have cost me approximately $250,000 over the life of the agreement for a system I would not truly control. Under NEM 3.0, battery control is critical. If the homeowner does not control when the battery charges and discharges, much of the potential savings can disappear because the system may not be optimized to minimize expensive 4-9 PM peak grid purchases. In my view, that turns the arrangement into something closer to paying interest on an extremely expensive solar loan while giving up control of the battery operation that is supposed to create the savings in the first place. Homeowners need to understand the NEM 3.0 trap: solar production alone is no longer the whole game. Battery dispatch strategy matters. If a company controls the battery, or if a VPP/lease structure limits your ability to use the battery for your own rate optimization, you may not get the savings you expect. Before signing with Sunrun or any similar provider, I would urge homeowners to ask very specific questions: What is the total lifetime cost of the agreement? Who controls the battery? Can I opt out of any VPP or third-party dispatch program? Will the battery be programmed to minimize my 4-9 PM peak imports? What are the removal, transfer, buyout, and end-of-term costs? What happens if I sell the home? What is the true cash price compared to local independent installers? In my case, once I compared Sunrun's proposal against other reputable contractors, the value simply was not there. The pricing was far higher, the control terms were worse, and the lease/VPP structure appeared designed to benefit Sunrun more than the homeowner. For anyone considering solar under NEM 3.0: do not just look at the monthly payment. Look at total lifetime cost, battery control, rate-plan optimization, and whether the company is actually designing the system around your savings -- or around their financing model. read more

Buyers, leasers beware. Because I can't give negative stars, I had to put 1 star. Our experience with this company has been nothing short of frustrating. A sales representive who was referred to us by a neighbor came to our home to present a sales pitch to me and my mother who lives across the street. My mother and I both signed the contract on Febrauary 9, 2016 and I was online April, 27 2016 and my mother had our systems up and running a few days later. I had a few issues with the Project Manager when she failed to schedule an electrician for installation so I had to be rescheduled but lied to about her lack of organizational skills and blamed it on rainy days which fell on the weekend days which they don't work. I did the power purchase agreement as did my mother which covers maintenance. (Its says that multiple times throughout the contract) Since I've had the solar panels installed, which hasn't been 2 months, we have a pigeon problem, which involves pigeon feces on our house, roof, cars and yard, as well as multiple bird nests under the panels. This question was addressed at the sales pitch because I had read the reviews of other solar company customers. My mother and I were told at that sales pitch that they place the solar panels low enough so birds are not a problem but if we have a problem to contact Sunrun to put on roofing spikes and netting. Our neighbor who referred us had the same issue and said just to call Sunrun and they will come out and take care of it. He did it so it should be easy, right? So I call the 855 number on the equipment and speak to a customer service representative that tells me that they don't cover wildlife issues. So I mention that my neighbor called and had his pigeon issued addressed. She said well not many people have this issue so they changed the contract as of May 26, 2016. She said it would cost me $800-$1800 for netting and roofing spikes. I came back at her and asked how can you change a contract that I signed in February. I received NO notice of changes nor did I sign any addendum to that contract. I'm seriously over this company. I handed 2 referrals to coworkers that I will be rescinding because no way do I want my friends roped into a lousy company that makes up the rules as they go. What a great journey it has being with Horizon solar. I have being quite impress how fast it has being. From the initial signing of the contract with Barbara Bennett on Jan 22, 2015, I am official PTO (permit to operate on 3/31). I guess one explanation is that my panels didn't not require me to install a new double panel power box. Addition reasons for the fast service are as follows 1) great knowledge, friendly and personal relation plus an exceptionally deal that Barbara was able to magically make 2) constant emails and phone calls with updates with every steps of the installation process and 3) Barbara was reachable at most time of the day (up to 9pm) for questions and answers. I am ready now to enjoy the high generating power that my 17 solar panels will hopefully generate up to 12k kwt/yr for my 2400sq ft, double story home (to be continue after summer to write about my true savings) I have read thru most of the review for Horizon solar and none has being negative once someone was able to sit down with a sale person to be educated on solar. Yes, the company could improve on their marketing approach and stop the cold calls and door to door sale person. But Barbara likes to work in a referral based and personalized all leads to make sure your energy needs are customized to your lifestyles. In short, with California going thru a continuous drought, hydropower plants will be affected; thus translating to higher future electricity bills. I wish I had paid closer attention to the reviews before choosing Sunrun. Unfortunately, I strongly regret moving forward with their service and would advise others to proceed with extreme caution. Sunrun assured us that at least 95% of our energy usage would be offset by solar, significantly reducing our electric bill. This has not been the case. We continue to receive JCP&L bills averaging $350-$400, in addition to our monthly Sunrun payment. Despite making numerous lifestyle and energy-saving adjustments, our electric costs have not decreased. Based on our monitoring and documentation, it appears that the solar system is not generating the energy promised and, in fact, may be drawing power from the utility company instead. The Sunrun app itself reflects minimal to no production during times when generation should be occurring. When we contacted Sunrun multiple times to address these concerns, customer service repeatedly stated that the panels are "healthy" and "working properly," without providing meaningful explanations or solutions. They have been unwilling to work with us to resolve the issue. To make matters worse, when we discussed shutting down the system due to nonperformance, we were threatened with legal action for breach of contract, despite the fact that the system had failed to meet the performance expectations promised at the time of sale. Overall, our experience has been extremely disappointing. The lack of transparency, poor customer service, and failure to deliver on contractual promises have made this a costly and frustrating decision. Additionally, they refuse to send someone to check on the panels, and according to them, we have to pay for that. The initial smiles during the signing of the contract turned into tears of frustration and disappointment. They became shockingly unresponsive, and my sales representative shifted blame onto the city when, in fact, the city revealed that the solar system was designed based on someone else's house, leading to non-approval. After 13 months of relentless delays, the installation finally happened, but without any prior notification, they reduced the panel count from 18 to 8. Worse yet, communication with the city for inspection was neglected, further delaying system activation. The loan documents expired, and despite repeated attempts, Sunrun failed to send the documents, consistently sending them to the wrong recipient. Resorting to contacting the CEO for assistance yielded no improvement. The customer experience managers demonstrated shocking unprofessionalism, refusing compensation for their failures. Their proposed solution was to remove the panels without penalty. In short, my solar panels still remain inactive, and the entire process has been marred by incompetence and poor communication. I strongly caution anyone considering Sunrun to thoroughly read reviews and explore alternative, more reliable options. This company's track record is riddled with complaints, and a comprehensive research is essential to avoid the drama and frustration I experienced. We got the inspectors out! Woohoo! The Sunrun inspector called me 2 days ago and setup today for him and the city inspector to do the final! The Sunrun inspector also brought a painter to paint the conduit running down the side of the house, Now for the bad part! The solar system didn't pass city inspection! It had a loose ground on the j panel and the j panel wasn't easily accessible, and Sunrun needed to provide design plan they should have provided at the begging of this whole process! Now I guess I will be waiting for this to get fixed and then wait on another inspection! I emailed my "project coordinator" about my inspection results anticipating a reply but it's now after 10 am the next morning and no contact yet. I apparently have a "project coordinator" that hasn't read the companies definition of his job! Read the following from Sunrun website! I found the below reviews to be completely false about Sunrun and about them being Liars. My experience with Sunrun and their Sales Rep Brandon Walker was fantastic! Unfortunately, I did not qualify for solar because of my current rate structure with SCE it is significantly different than most. He was completely honest with me and did his due diligence in explaining my SCE bill and how they charged me for my power. In fact, he went on to say that, "He could not lay his head down at night knowing that he would be ripping a homeowner off." What integrity! I had several other companies come into my home before Sunrun showed up and they all said that they could save me a significant amount of money and tried to get me to sign on the dotted line with high pressure techniques. I am so glad I did not sign anything, as after Brandon explained my current situation with SCE and the fact that I am receiving cheaper power than most with special discount rates because of my health issues. I signed up for Sunrun and have had solar panels on my roof since March. In July, the panels stopped working, and Sunrun contacted me so they could come and fix the issue. When the technician came to my home, he informed me that my battery had also not been working correctly and was only operating at 30% capacity. Ultimately, the technician was terrific and was able to fix things quickly. My solar panels were not working correctly for over a week and my battery had not been working since Sunrun installed it. During this time, my Edison bill also skyrocketed! When I reached out to Sunrun so I could receive credit, they told me I was ineligible to receive one and would give me $75 for the inconvenience. I requested someone contact me, and they refused to. I do not recommend Sunrun. If you purchase solar panels from them, you will have some relationship for the next 10-20 years. You do not want a relationship with a company that treats you this way. If Sunrun does read this, please reach out to me. I would really like to resolve this issue. read more

Do NOT let this company near your home. By far the worst possible experience and totally regret chosing them for solar. They have great sales people that say all right things and promise to do things right, but they have no clue how bad their own company is at delivering. their communication is non existent. they blame issues on contractors and never know whats goin on. I am having to hire my own contractors to fix everything they did wrong or did not complete and paying thousands out of pocket. someone from their social media damage control will respond and offer to look into this, but they wont, been down that path for months. I read read the negative reviews before chosing Sunrun, and didnt head the warnings... Please dont make my mistake! My only goal is to help warn as many potential Sunrun victims as possible so they wont have to go thru a horrible experience. Ken Fong's customer-first philosophy is top-notch. He took the time out of his busy schedule to help us figure out the ever confusing Edison bill conundrum. Most impressive for us is that he wasn't even our representative from the company we used to install our solar panels; he was referred to us by a friend. After four years of being bounced back and forth between the solar company and Edison with no concrete answers or solutions, Ken was able to figure it out in less than 5 seconds after looking at our Edison bill. We have had sunrun reps visit our home three times in just one week asking us to sign up with them, when they ring the doorbell and we do not answer they start banging at our door. We do not need solar as we literally just signed up with a different provider. The rep I spoke with today asked me several questions that we shouldn't have any reason to be asked of and just to be polite I went along with it and in spite of informing politely to the SunRun rep Petra at my front door that we would like to not be visited any longer by this company I was told it would continue to happen and "its one of the perks of living in Southern California". That makes no sense at all, I shouldn't have three separate visits banging at my door three times in just one week and to have my request be flat out refused is not right. I tried calling Sunrun's hotline asking the same thing also went nowhere as I was connected to someone in a call center who said I have to have an account with them to be removed from their list. Sunrun solar is absolute worst company to work with. I was charged $584 for a warranty call. They came out and did a 20 min warranty call to fix my my communication error I was having. they tell me the tech did a system inspection but the manager could not tell me what he did to prove that the tech did that. Now they will not waive the fee and will send me to collection if I don't pay. The worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They said they would look into this and contract me and still no reply!! Please do not do business with them ever. I have posted on Nextdoor in my neighborhood and Facebook. I want to get the word out about this horrible company!! They said they would get back to me and I sent a follow up email with all my info still no reply when they state they would get back to me in 24 hours. Just another lie!! these guys installed some panels in june 2023 and actually told me that some of my tiles from my roof was cracked and they will come on a later date to replace them. the guy told me only a COUPLE of tiles were cracked. well today Sept. 7 2023, they STILL havent come by to replace them and i did had a guy come over to clean my panels today. this guy told me that whoever did the solar panel, did a horrible job. he sent me photos of my roof and holy moly. my entire roof needs to be replace cause these guys cant do their job right. i get it, it was in the summer, its hot up there but that is no excuse to leave my house with a broken roof!!! it rained and we had water leaking through my roof cause these guys are so bad at their job. now we have water damage on our walls and ceiling. im about to take legal actions if they dont come and replace my roof cause that is NOT PROFESSIONAL!!!! Terrible experience with Sun Run Solar Company! My solar system has been out of commission since November of last year due to a faulty inverter, and despite reaching out to their customer service representative, I was told that I wouldn't be receiving a refund for the months my system has been inactive. This is completely unacceptable and shows a lack of accountability on their part. As a customer, I expect a reliable and functioning system, and when it breaks down, I anticipate prompt repairs or compensation for the downtime. It's disappointing that Sun Run Solar Company failed to fulfill their end of the agreement and neglected their responsibility to rectify the situation. I would strongly advise against considering their services, as their customer support is unhelpful and their commitment to resolving issues is severely lacking. Terrible company. Our equipment was installed in September. They never submitted the application to operate. I found out in December when I called PGE and they had no record of our project. After I confronted Sunrun, they finally submitted the application to PGE at the end of January. In March I followed up with PGE because we kept getting the runaround with Sunrun. PGE told me they sent Sunrun a notice that our transformer wouldn't be able to handle the load of our system and that they would either need to change the equipment or wait for PGE to replace the transformer.Sunrun ne er told us about this communication. They answered for us that no changes would be made to our equipment and we would wait for the transformer to be replaced. All of this was communicated to Sunrun. They have been evasive and lied or omitted the facts numerous times. We have escalated it and gotten nowhere. They are the worst company ever. read more

Our solar went out twice this past year. First time we waited almost four months to get a technician out. After many complaints, the problem was fixed just for it to go out again in September. No one contacted us to let us know the solar wasn't working. Finally, when we noticed it ourselves, it took over a month to get someone out. Management offered a month's credit even though the last four months weren't working. To make matters worse, the technician that came out told us we have dangerous moss and branches underneath the panels, which is a fire hazard. Sunrun told us it will cost an additional 1500 to get them cleaned. So not only are they ok with letting our panels only work five months out of the year but now they want an additional 1500 for cleaning services. Oh, and the manager offered a 25$ credit for our inconvenience... Looks like it's time to contact the Attorney General. read more

Always get 3 estimates and bargain. The panels are way over priced. Each time system produces less power, I have to send them so many bills for a small amount refund. The owner does not seem honest and so is the staff does not care for wrong installation. And they always argue that a tree is in the way, by looking at google picture which is over a year old and the skinny tree is on right side not in the sky blocking the panels.

Ryan and Josh were so professional, efficient (from delivery of the panels to our garage to final installation was 3 days). We have a tiled roof type that makes installation difficult without damaging the tiles, and as a result many companies wouldn't even bid on the project. Their pricing was fair and their system for protecting the tiles worked great. Only a few tiles were broken in the process, and they not only fixed those but also fixed a few others that were broken but not by them. We were connected with Source Solar through an independent sales person. The design and software allowed us to very precisely see the cost of a design and the energy production. It has been very accurate and we ended up almost exactly using what we produced (we produced a little bit extra but also charged our car less during Covid). The monitoring app they installed has functioned perfectly and we are actually hooked on watching our daily intake and lamenting any passing clouds that affect our production. One time we noticed that a single panel seemed to be producing less than the ones around it. Although we weren't sure if it was just caused the the neighbor's chimney shadowing that panel more than the surrounding ones, they were out within a few days and swapped it out for a new one. Sure enough, the new one had better production. We are newbies to the world of solar energy, and they very patiently answered all our questions about the time-of-use energy plan, yearly billing, production and use estimates, the monitoring app, etc. We highly, highly recommend these brothers and would give them 6 stars if we could. The only thing we regret is not doing this years earlier.
