Jason Kong sold us a system that is not producing enough power. Original plan was to add more panels towards mountains and 2 in front where the sun is positioned most but he added more panels towards the wrong size. I am still paying $2,500.00 per year. Now I have to add plenty more panels. I would use other companies to get panels from. Two solar companies told me the same the panels are not positioned for maximum savings. BUYERS BEWARE. Always get 3 estimates and bargain. The panels are way over priced. Each time system produces less power, I have to send them so many bills for a small amount refund. The owner does not seem honest and so is the staff does not care for wrong installation. And they always argue that a tree is in the way, by looking at google picture which is over a year old and the skinny tree is on right side not in the sky blocking the panels. read more

Update #4 the onsite photo SolarMax has we (the homeowner's) provided when we became aware the conduit was kinked. If we were aware of tampering, why would we mention it?! We came to SolarMax as homeowner's for a resolution. We were willing to pay for any correction needed that we were not aware of. This is when SolarMax stated it was tampered by another contractor and were completely unwilling to work with us to resolve the issue and voided our contract. However, as stated, several SolarMax technicians have been to our residence and at NO time did they identify or report the kink in the conduit!! It is the responsibility of the original contractor to make sure the equipment is up to code and again none of the technicians who came to fix the split wiring (SolarMax work performed not to code) mentioned anything, nothing! read more

I DO NOT recommend this company unless you have lots of time on your hands to babysit your system. Today is 7/8/25. 4 years ago we were sold an amazing and little to no maintenence system by the sales rep that came to our house. We were also told they would monitor our system. The system we actually received according to my conversation with customer service today, can't meet our electrical needs. As far as monitoring, nope. If they do and notice a problem they don't tell you about it. After 2 years of running as promised, our system shut down for over 4 months and we had no idea. We found out our system was down when we got a $1000+ bill from Edison. Apparently we have to go out DAILY and look at our unit to verify the system is on. It has since shut down a dozen times or more and we sometimes don't catch it in time due to life getting in the way and then get a ridiculously high electric bill. We called for a tech to find out why our system keeps shutting down. They claim we are tripping the system from using too much energy. We are actually using less than when the system was designed. They charged us $500 for the service call due to our system tripping to tell us it is our fault THEY designed a under performing system. Go with a different company that honors what they promise. Their installer fried my air conditioner and won't admit it even when the repair company confirmed it. My production was below what they guaranteed on the first year after installation. They just find ways to justify it (didn't clean the panels or there's something blocking it). I had solar system and 2 battery packs installed and it was a great experience with SolarMax and Brandon Mezzanatto. The whole solar installation went without a problem and I was contacted every step of the way. I received communications from every department that was involved on the installation and SolarMax arranged the city and fire dept inspection. I have to give a shout-out to Simon C. He's the sales lead on my parent's solar system. He went above and beyond his job description to figure things out for us. We ended up with a lot of questions regarding the system and instead of going through customer service, he was able to answer them or get things done without going through hoops. A good salesperson should always be knowledgeable about what they are selling and how it operates, and he has the knowledge to back up his products. You'll know you're in good hands with Simon. The pain point with solar is dealing with the city and Edison (power company); so those are understandably out of SolarMax's hands, as frustrating as it is dealing with the inspectors. read more

Report to them about "Riso Low" error with GRI red, but never received respond. Checking online and found out this is something to do with panel issue. I have total 24 panels and still received over $150 every month for bill, I am pretty sure this is something wrong with the existing panels, I have this problem since I got the house from previous owner which over 3 years ago. Look like they don't want to fix the issue since previous owner also report the issue to them too. Hopefully this post will help. read more

I was referred to SolarMax Tech by my brother who installed his system over a year ago. When my husband and I did our research we agreed that they seemed to be very responsive, that was so not the case. We signed our contract over 2 months ago and paid our deposit and have basically not heard from them since unless we initiate contact. We live in an area that required HOA approval, we gave them all the info at the end of October so that it could be approved in the November meeting. They did not submit the paperwork because they thought we needed additional signatures however they never contacted us to tell us this or to get clarification for their error in reading the documents, so this created a months delay. Our HOA met 4 weeks ago and when we heard it was approved we sent a message with a copy of the approval to our rep at SolarMax who responded "Great News" and has not contacted us since. We heard from another rep 2 weeks ago stating that they were still waiting for HOA approval. We sent another copy of the approval letter to him and again have heard nothing since. We were also told they would get all the city permits, which we still have yet to hear about. After reading some of the comments here, we have also talked to "Jeff" about a month ago, who said he agreed that our project had fallen thru the cracks and yet still no one has bothered to contact us. At this point we are wondering if this project is even being worked on or if we can get our deposit back and move on. read more

Attention attention attention do not buy Solar from this Solar Max company. They are crook. Pacifically if you go finance the solar from them. You will never finish paying the balance and if you want to pay faster you still have to pay a whole interest they charge which is a lots . Meaning you do not get the interest break from paying faster to . So the benefit always to the company not to the client. For example my payment is $250 every month for 15 years and my solar cost $25,000 So if you make a payment every month $250 a month . The financing you pay go the interest and the principal . But Solar Max company when you make a payment $250 a lot going straight to the interest only not to the principal ,so you do not see your balance going down that the one make me very upset. I never Financing with the company that takes A whole payment to the interest and not paid the principal and I can prove it because I have my payment summary from Solar Max . So be careful to go finance the solar from Solar Max this is my experience with this company very disappointed and I still make a payment . Just had a 4kW solar system added to my existing solar and I have to say, I had a great experience with SolarMax and John Brookshier. I wish I would've used them the first time. John was on top of the job the whole way though. When any issues came up during the approval process with the city or with Edison, John jumped on it and resolved it before I had to do anything. I never had to lift a finger. The installers were polite, efficient and fast. One day and done! They completely cleaned up when they were done and left nothing behind for me to clean. The system is now done, up and running and I couldn't be happier. I would absolutely recommend SolarMax to anyone looking for Solar and I would suggest asking for John Brookshier specifically when you call. read more

Over the course of this project I must have called 5 different people including a question about how to pay and no one would ever call back. WARNING!!! DO NOT DEAL WITH SOLARMAX!!! Working with Solarmax is like getting caught in a rabbit hole where they never intend to resolve anything, they just keep going round and round until you get so dizzy you pass out. Don't be fooled by them, I've been trying to work out their unethical business practices and give them a chance to do the right thing and fix things for well over a YEAR! Here are a few things we experienced which I don't want to happen to you: 1. Started billing us before the system was complete. 2. Charged us TWICE the going interest rate. 3. Oversold the capacity we needed. 4. Promised to have supervisors call, but they NEVER did. 5. Overcharged our credit card requiring us to call in and get the refunds. 6. Illegally Discriminated against ONLY US (yes they told us this - they decided they were no longer going to accept OUR credit card payment contract in September even though the notices in the mail every month said January 2020.) 7. They intentionally stopped processing our payments trying to force us to give them our ACH banking information. When we refused they started assessing us LATE charges. 8. After trying to deal with it every month, they are now saying it has taken too long to work through so they can't help! 9. Requested a conversation with the Senior VP which they say will call, but NEVER happens. Once they get your money, you won't hear from them except to extort you. Taking advantage of seniors seems to be easy pickin's for them. I have detailed notes with dates, times, who I spoke to and what was discussed. It is bad enough when we get taken advantage of but shame on us if we don't say anything and save others the same pain and frustration we've gone through. It is only if we tell each other what is going on that we can make businesses and brands get back to ethical business practices. Our residence met with the Regional Manager Jeff of So. CA, covering all Riverside and OC; he is the top dog in addition to being with the original and current founder of the co. We've interviewed about 6 solar co.s before we selected SolarMax, on account of its many years longevity, financial security, warranty, expertise, available products we selected for project, Jeff's patience in addressing our exhaustive inquiry and details, breadth of knowledge, assurances, and professional demeanor. After honing out details on contract revision after revision, a Bomb was dropped on us on the day of our signing the finalized contract. Without warning, Jeff cancelled the online contract and documents!! Then, he emails me and states the tilting support system for our solar array paneling for our flat roof would be over an additional $2000! He didn't ask us first if we would agree to this sudden upcharge! No apology was even given in the email! He just cancelled! Since day one, he knew we had a flat roof when he was informed of the project, which he did not bother to come see us for an appointment because of COVID-19, and everything would be okay online?! We passed on by SolarMax because we wouldn't be able to get all of our inquiries and concerns addressed. I guess word got out to him that there would be no business with our residence, and a personal visit appointment was suddenly made. Second, he knew we wanted and was normal a tilted/angled solar paneling was required because the panels would achieve maximum exposure and performance, and the panels would require lesser dust and wash-off maintenance on account of owner's responsibilities. My wife especially and I spent countless hours researching, analyzing, and comparing solar companies. We had selected SolarMax also not being the least expensive (least expensive was over $4000), but due to a balance of product, service, warranty, security, company, and terms. Yet, after all the agreed upon terms on the final contract, SolarMax and Jeff smashed and stumped down on us hard--without any provocation, cause, nor deserving of disrespectful treatment we received here. When I called him after being bewildered after reading his email, he simply stated he "didn't know" how much the tilt support system would cost. He's the Regional Manager--not a line staff salesman who knows less! He knew since Day One our prerequisite flat roof, and tilt support for the panels!! After a few days since the visit to final contract signing day, he didn't even mention of a cost for the support system--because that's already factored in to our project's price!! Imagine what would have happened if the project was underway through SolarMax, and they all of a sudden dropped the Bomb on the project, and told the owners they have to pay additional $$$ more for something unforeseen, or else they pack up the equipment and walk away if the owners don't pay, leaving your roof exposed to the weather and elements. By the way, we heard from one SolarMax customer: they had problems getting a defective inverter replaced after several calls and being given defective replacement inverters; SolarMax finally gave in to correcting their problem--after what they went through. I now have 34 panels on my home from SolarMax and have been impressed by their product, pricing, sales and installation teams. For someone considering solar, keep in mind there's been a big rush as the federal tax rebates are now on the downward slide. For people considering solar,go bigger than you think you're going to need, keep in mind local planning departments are overwhelmed with existing work and this will inevitably slow down your installation times. Be patient with whomever you work with, particularly the sales and project managers who are the true front lines of the company. I had a fantastic experience with Mark Andrews and Kyle Evans who did everything they could to make the best of a tough situation and got it done. We had our solar panel system installed in November 2019. The sales dept and project manager were thorough and excellent (Darvin & Elizabeth). They were timely in their communications throughout the initial process of approvals, etc. However, our initial install team was inept & did a sloppy job. After complaining to Solar Max, the original team was yanked off the job and a new crew came to correct it right away. Once the system was up and running, we have been very pleased with the company. We had a relatively minor issue 4 months after install. Called Darvin and he sent a crew promptly to address the matter. Great customer service even months after!! (The only reason did not give 5 stars is that the initial installation crew was terrible and bungling. They were apparently a subcontracted crew but should have been vetted better.) read more

I have texts proving it yet the manager and director of the company won't honor it because it's not on the contract. I truly believe this is fraud. What they are saying about working with me is not true. They told me they could not help me and that I needed to pay for monitoring in order to make sure that my panels were working. Paying for monitoring would cost me extra and bring my solar bill up to $300 a month. By the way $300 a month is what my electric bill was averaged out to for the year. So there is no savings. Along with paying Solar Max For my panels I also received an electric bill of $1200 this year. At this rate I am paying more for solar then I would have just paid for my electric bill. I have very pleasant experience with the whole process. Alex was very patient comparing cost and product, then quoted fair price and offered easy payment plan. Then they worked with our difficult HOA and got all necessary document with city . They were so helpful scheduling for me cause I had to travel overseas . Also I had to reschedule the installation due to my own misplanning . They were so nice about everything. Wow. These folks rock. 100 percent American panels. So don't like the Chinese ones. Yuck. So GREG the sales associate was a Rock Star. Super professional, great personality. Treated me like family. I now have zero electric bill. Great for environment. And based on study I found adds 6 to 11 percent to value of home. People love no electric bill. So based on those numbers, with my solar costing under 20k, 2800 square feet house worth 1.2 million, the value it added was approximately 100k based on 8 % value to home. That means 20k made me 80k. I had a great experience with Solarmax! I had a 26 panel-7.8kWH system installed in December and we couldn't be happier. Mark Andrews was our salesman and Mark was great! He answered every question by phone, email or txt easily within 5 mins. In fact, now that the system is installed, he is still answering my minor questions quickly. We had our Solar Max system installed in December 2018. Before going forward with Solar Max, We interviewed and had meetings with 2 other solar companies. We were very impressed with the Solar Max program and really liked working with salesman, Dan Cooley. Dan explained everything in detail and was very patient, as I had multiple questions. We had a slight hiccup with our installation but Dan was on it immediately and addressed everything. Everything made sense to work with Dan and Solar Max. There are so many gimmicks and bait and switch deals out there - Solar Max definitely does not operate this way. Everything was very straight forward and the strength of the company is very strong.
