Very challenging communication. Poor follow up. Inpatient service. Frustrating and easily avoidable delays

Our roof and solar installation went ok but the real trouble started when they turned on net metering and now we are paying double what we did before solar. We have reached out to Sunlux for support multiple times over the months and they still refuse to send anyone out to look at our system. Instead they blame LADWP, but at least the LADWP came out and tested their meter and said it was functioning correctly. There support after the fact speaks volumes about them, so I would caution anyone to use them. I am now in a situation where my only option is to speak with an attorney because they have completely stopped communicating with me and we are loosing money every month after giving Sunlux thousands of dollars which was supposed to save us money. read more

If you are shopping for solar, STAY AWAY from this dishonest company. I wish I read all the reviews before I signed the contract. Please, read other reviews. Luckily, I'm finally able to cancel my contract. It took me 3 months to realize that they just kept making false promises and were not professional at all. Where do I start, first roof estimate was no way near accurate, it was way higher ($5000) than other roofing companies' quotes. (I got 3 quotes) Finally they agreed to reduce 5k to match. Then the solar quotes was the highest among all the other quotes I had. I negotiated with the salesman Jerry and finally got 2K down. What I didn't know was, he tricked me to "upgrade" to Boral Saxony 700 instead of 600(original quote) . He said 700 is more expensive than 600 ($821 difference) which is a lie. I later found out it's not the case at all！ Then, after I signed the contract, gave them the deposit, Jerry asked me to pay $8000 more for plywood which he promised in writing it's all included. Why? Because he stated that made a mistake????? Jerry offered to pay $5000 out of his pocket and asked me to pay another 3K. I told him I can't afford it then he said okay, All included( all these happened in one day) sketchy right? Then I asked them to revise the contract stating plywood is included but never got update one. Weeks go by, nothing happened, Finally I reached to their boss to ask for explanation, owner Mike talked to me like 5 mins, saying he was going to dig it up then I never heard from him again. Another week goes by, no answer whatsoever. Then they just sent me an email asking me to sign the cancellation letter. No explanation, no apologies, nothing. We signed it anyway cuz we want to get our deposit back. I'm blown away by their false promises, lies and unprofessional attitudes. You have been warned! I'm updating my review after Garrett took the time to coordinate to have a couple of fixes related to the gutter that was poorly done (piping was reversed and was leaking). There was ownership over some snafus that happened throughout this process, which ultimately what is causing me to change my review to 5 stars - their customer service clearly shines through and they will want to fix things. I would ultimately say: if you're going with Solar, use Sunlux. If you're going with roofing, I wouldn't recommend Sunlux until they figure out their craft here. In either case scenario, their customer service will take their diligence to try to remediate things as much as possible, which is more than can be said about most service companies. read more

Our experience with Sunlux was great. The salesperson was knowledgeable and walked us through the process of selecting the right amount of panels for our roof. The design department worked with us through the permit and layout process. When the panels finally where installed about 6 weeks later we where very happy. I spend several months researching and getting quotes from multiple solar contractors. Let me tell you it was a big learning experience. At the end I decided to go with Sunlux. They give me the best price and best guarantee than the other three solar companies for the system I was looking for.. They really took care of me and made the most effort to earn my business. I went solar in December 2019 and chose SunLux after having several companies give me quotes. I had them redo my roof and install some panels. I did not have any issues with the work they performed and was actually quite pleased with how the project turned out. I was told at the time of sale that I should expect a $10-$20 monthly bill from Edison for using power and staying on the grid. I was also told that the power my panels would produce would offset any energy I pulled from the grid. I know that was only an estimation and there's no way to project what is going to happen year to year, but I wasn't expecting what happened next. At the beginning of January I received a bill from Edison for over $700! This was what they called a true up bill and was charged based on the extra energy I used throughout the year. I had no idea this was even possible. I called Edison and they said I had to take it up with SunLux. This is where my major issue came up. I called and they opened a service ticket. I received a phone call from Mike Valencia (VP OF SALES / FOUNDER). Mike said they would send out a technician to look at my system. A few days later the tech showed up and said there was nothing wrong with my system. A few days later the same tech showed up unannounced and needed to install something into my wireless router because my system was having signal issues. Good thing I was home because I had no idea he was coming over. After that, I heard nothing from the company. NOTHING. I emailed Mike multiple times over the next few weeks and he did not respond. I emailed the lady who set up the service ticket and she did not respond. I called Mike and left him a message which he did not return. After not hearing anything about why I had a $700 bill, I called SunLux again and spoke to a representative who said she would look into it and expedite a response. Guess what happened? That night I got not one but 2 emails from Mike. The first to tell me that my system had under produced by over 800 kWh, that I had used more energy then the previous years and that 2020 was an anomaly due to the fires and rain. He also said they would send me a check for around $120 due to the under production of my system. The second email was received after I told him I was going to post a Yelp review regarding their lack of communication. Mike assured me that, just as with 2020, my situation was also an anomaly and that it was not representative of the way the company communicates. This review is to serve two purposes: 1. inform future solar customers that what they tell you in the consultations is not 100% accurate. Be aware that you will be charged for excess energy used and make sure you read your entire electricity bill to know exactly where you stand month to month on energy cost. I thought the $10-$20 monthly bill was all I was supposed to pay based on my conversation with the sales rep, so I never even bothered reading my whole bill. That was my fault, but don't make the same mistake otherwise you will have a $700 surprise come the new year. 2. Let the company know that their lack of communication led to this review. I had no issues with anything until my multiple emails met no response. If I had been told it would take several weeks to figure out the issue or that they were working on it and would get back to me soon or anything at all, I wouldn't have felt so ignored. Mike obviously gets his emails, he emailed back at 10 pm after I told him I was going to leave a Yelp review. Why couldn't he just take five minutes over the past few weeks to respond with anything instead of repeatedly ignoring my messages. $700 is a lot of money I was not expecting to spend. I realize that I need to be more diligent when using my electricity and reviewing my energy bills so that this does not happen again. What I would also like to have happen in the future is that when I call for assistance or email for help, I get as prompt of a response as I did when I was first interested in purchasing solar. After months of research, my husband and I finally installed solar panels on our home. We had a fantastic experience with Sunlux. After putting the sales agent through his paces with my many questions about the materials, the esthetics and the process, he passed with flying colors. He was very patient and informative. He was the only one (of many) who took the time to make sure I understood how each component worked with the system. The system we purchased was designed for our needs and energy usage not just the square footage of our home. The engineers were very helpful with designing multiple options for the panel placement. I certainly didn't make things easy for them. Each person I interacted with was helpful and professional. The installation took one day. A team of five very polite men worked together efficiently and neatly. They cleaned up perfectly before leaving. The city inspection followed a week later. The inspector was very impressed with the quality of the installation. At that visit, one man from Sunlux took care of all the painting of conduit to match our siding, roof and trim colors. They actually color matched all the paint! The system is up and running. I have an app on my phone that keeps track of the energy production. It was all seamless. I highly recommend Sunlux and our sales agent, Mark Trujillo. Mark has stayed in touch throughout the entire process to make sure I was happy with the progress and final result. One final note. Sunlux was less expensive, provided a better warranty, uses high quality panels and has excellent customer service from start to finish. I am so happy with my Sunlux experience! After going through the process I would definitely choose them again without hesitation. I initially reached out to Tesla Solar, which seemed great at first. We had a good initial meeting, the proposal looked good, and the gentleman that did my inspection was so nice. Then everything went sideways. After my inspection, the initial estimate went up $8,500 for additional costs. I called my local utility company to verify what Tesla Solar was telling me was needed. My utility company sent someone to my house to inspect and verified it was not needed. Suddenly, I had a hard time getting ahold of my Project Manager at Tesla and the engineers could not agree on the requirements. Every few weeks they would just send me an email asking if I had signed the documents yet. They didn't want to discuss what the utility company said. That is when I called other companies, including Sunlux. My sales contact, Rob Martinez, worked with me and answered all of my questions. After reviewing the proposals, I researched the equipment on each proposal. The pricing was all competitive, but the equipment Sunlux quoted was far superior and the reviews were great. That is when I signed with Sunlux. Everyone I talked to, emailed, or that came to our house was friendly, professional, and overly polite. From my Project Manager, Emma Stadler, to the techs sent to our house for installation and inspections, everyone was knowledgeable and amazing. Emma kept me informed every step of the way and I did my part by emailing or calling when I had questions. Every email or call was responded to quickly. Do not use this company. My husband and I both feel cheated by this company. When I expressed my concerns with this company regarding my issues I was told I was "the worst customer" and I was treated very horribly. I do get that they probably have bad customers but I was just calling to clarify the rebate because I learned we were given/understood the wrong information. I asked to speak with the manager and a woman called me back and told me I would hear from Mile (the owner) however that was a week and a half ago and no response. We were given wrong information, and during installing one worker said "I don't care what it looks like, it's not my house" thankfully another worker came down and asked me how I wanted it because we had an issue with the layout. When getting solar you rely on these companies to help guide you and treat you with respect. This company gave us none of that. I would not recommend this company and the sales rep Bill Young, I would not recommend even taking a phone call from him. We were contacted by the regional manager with apologies and wanted to make things right by working with us to design a system to fit our needs. In the long run, we decided to go with a different provider in the East Bay Area who was more familiar with PG&E. I contacted SunLux for a estimate to purchase panels for our home in Fremont, CA in Northern California. I was concerned that the company is based in San Diego but SunLux has been advertising heavily in the Bay Area on the radio and a yelp reviewer in the Bay Area gave them high marks. After my limited experience, that 4 star rating from the Bay Area was NOT my experience. I was contacted by Cheryl, a marketing specialist, after I sent in a request on The SunLux website. I told her my concerns about SunLux not being based in the Bay Area, but she told me that SunLux has a regional office in Livermore. She also said that they could do an internet based meeting where we go over an Internet demo while speaking to a representative over the phone or a representative could come to our home. If I'm going to spend $10k, I want someone to come to my home. I sent Cheryl my PG&E usage for the year and she said she would send me an email with a meeting confirmation. 3 days later and no email confirmation, I contact Cheryl letting her know that I still did not get a meeting confirmation. She apologized and sent an email confirmation that day. Unfortunately, the meeting was for an Internet meeting. I contacted Cheryl letting her know that I requested an in house meeting. She apologized and sent a new meeting confirmation for an in house appointment the following week. So the day of the meeting finally arrives. My husband comes home early to be at the meeting. A few minutes after our meeting time, I get a call from in unrecognized phone number from Fresno, CA. which is 3.5 hours away from Fremont. I answer the phone, thinking maybe the representative is based in Fresno, but is lost and on his way. I was correct that it was the SunLux rep, but has asks if we are ready for our internet demo. I let him know that I was supposed to have an in-house meeting. He then said that generally the initial meeting is about what SunLux can do for us and would last about 10 minutes. If he had the electricity usage info maybe he would have more information to present to us. I point out that I sent that data to Cheryl, which he in turn tells me that I'm correct (DUH) he has the usage information in his files. UGH! There are plenty of solar providers in our area and I told him that since they were not prepared for this meeting, they did not have to sent up a new meeting. They had their chance. Sunlux.com is the worse installer of all. They been trying to fix one section of my roof leak for the last three months. They can't never get it fix. The whole team is incompetent of fixing the roof leak. The worse part is they won't lead me go to get my own roofer to fix it. I did that once on the other section of my roof and it fix, but they won't reimburse me. They said it's not their cause even though they are the one that replace my roof. I would give them a F. They are good at Fxxxing up stuff but can't get anything right. Just like when they install my LG batteries that it doesn't work. The worse part of all is when they remove the batteries, they created a surge into my house that damage all my equipments. They should not even get one star. Highly recommended, especially if you think you got roofing issues. I'm glad I didn't give up on my solar project because I almost did. Back in 2019, I was ready to move ahead with the project and went to energysage.com get quotes. I've had over 10 quotes and I actually even signed up with another installer at the time (not SunLux) and started the project. Then shortly after the project started I was told they discovered my roof had issues so the project was cancelled. I cancelled in part 1) the installer didn't do roofing and I didn't want to deal with multiple contractors and 2) the unexpected cost in the project. And apparently, the installer wasn't too excited about either, it seem. I guess most installers out there just want the easy installs but that's not the real world out there. I all but had given up. Then 6 months later I decided I give it another try and recalled Sunlux had given me a quote prior but never followed up on it. Explained my situation to Tracy, my Sunlux consultant and he said my roof issue can be handled by Sunlux. He was very responsive to my needs, customized a system that I want and even had a great suggestion on the panel placement. How it looks is as important as the power for me. All that within my budget. So with contract signed, this is typically where most solar project fall apart (right?) and this is what I heard from my neighbors with their solar project from a different installer. Nope, not with Sunlux. The project moved quickly and it stayed that way. I got coordinated with the project manager Jennifer and she made sure all my concerns were addressed. Even with Covid, the project took no more than 3 months and the bulk of the wait is with permitting. It only took 2 days for roofing and other 2 days for the panel install. Truly, truly, truly a person of their word. This is an older house on a hill; requiring a new main electrical panel, coordination with Edison because our old service line from Edison had been damaged in an earthquake plus TWO permits with the City. Many salesmen from Solar City, SUNrun and Horizon wasted 6-8 months of my time and could not put it together. SUNLUX promised they do everything IN-HOUSE so they could relocate and install the new main electrical panel, coordinate with Edison as Edison relocated the new underground service and complete City permits to MY total satisfaction ----AND THEY DID. Oh yes--- they also installed a fantastic 9.012 kW system just the way I wanted it. The arrows on Edison's electrical meter are now pointing to the left (back to Edison) --- Very Cool and I don't have to worry about the IRS this year also Very Cool. Please do yourself a favor and do not e have in business with this company. Please see it for yourself and try calling them. They only have sales people answering phones and have no customer service. I created a service ticket in early June and they told me 3-5 business days to get in touch with me and set up a visit. Don't take my word for it and try it yourself. They only respond to new potential clients. It's almost July and Lorena (the person that sent me the email with the ticket confirmation) keeps ignoring my emails (I am on my 5th email today). Sunlux is super professional. They installed our solar within 2 days of the approved permit. Our Project Manager Erika Garcia is super efficient and responsible. I had an issue with the power on Friday night after the installation and sent her an email at 12:17 AM midnight. The tech shows up at my door the next morning at 8AM. When I saw the tech, I am speechless with their service. Jerry Hong is my sales representative, very knowledgeable about the solar, and usually, reply to my text in a minute. My salesperson (Chris) was very honest, informative and professional. There was no sales pressure at all. He explained the entire project in detail and satisfactorily answered all my questions. He was extremely patient with me when I called him numerous times with questions I had pertaining to my internet solar research I conducted as I was educating myself on solar. I got several quotes prior to choosing Sunlux. Although Sunlux was a little more expensive than others (not much), I chose Sunlux because of the professionalism Chris displayed and because they are a large professional company who is dedicated to customer service. I believe in "you get what you pay for" and I am extremely pleased with Sunlux, as I got much more than I paid for. I am very happy I chose them for my project. My project manager (Berlyn) was outstanding. She was constantly communicating with me by either phone, email or text. She kept me apprised of every step of the project and was always responsive to me whenever I called her. She always got back to me immediately. She was professional, polite, informative and defiantly dedicated to customer service. She always made sure I knew what was happening, kept me in the loop, and that I was pleased. It was a pleasure working with Berlyn. The project took a little over 3 months to complete, but that was due to permitting issues and not the fault of Sunlux. None the less, Berlyn was in constant contact with the building authorities and moved things right along. The installers were very professional, polite and defiantly demonstrated pride in their work. The installation was clean, seamless and it looks fantastic. All the electrical is hidden in my attic and out of sight (except for my inverter). My roofer was Troy Roofing who was subcontracted through Sulux. Although I am not a fan of subcontractors, Sunlux changed my opinion about subcontractors. They were in contact with the roofer the entire time and I never had to deal with the roofer directly. Troy Roofing did an exceptional job on my roof. The guys worked 3 hard long days in 100 degree weather. They demonstrated pride in their work and they did an excellent job. I highly recommend Troy Roofing. In summary, I am extremely pleased with Sunlux Solar and the outstanding job they did. They totally exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them for your solar project. You will not regret it. I've been a SunLux costumer for 4.5 years now and so far, my investment has been excellent. So far, I've paid close to nothing for electricity; it's something I really don't worry about anymore (wish I could say the same about water and gas). When I've had issues with my system, the company has always followed through and has fixed the problem, every time. Recently, I experienced a problem with my inverter--it simply stopped working. I reached out to a representative, who created a service ticket. I was told that a replacement would probably take a few weeks to ship and install. When I asked why it would take so long, a rep. explained that parts were harder to receive due to the world-wide supply issue. It isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened to me during that last few months; I've experienced similar challenges when I had problems getting my car serviced, and getting children's medication, etc.; unfortunately this problem with my solar panels took a little longer, but in all honesty, I understand that I can't fault Sunlux for the downtime. Fortunately CJ, a logistics administrator, sent me plenty of updates regarding the status of my service ticket. She was also very good at replying to my emails. Finally, after a little while, my system was fixed, and is now up and running. I feel confident that if I ever experience another problem, Sunlux will have my back. read more

I was overall very happy with SunLux's service and installation of my solar system. Great customer support throughout the process. Got an initial estimate very quickly. The on-site audit took nearly 2 weeks to occur, seems like they should hire more of them. After the on-site audit, received the layout on my roof. Because I have a TV dish, I asked them to change it so there was access to it. Two iterations iteration (couple day turnaround each time, seemed kind of slow to me) captured my desires. After that the installation (one day) and inspection happened the next week. Great to see my meter going backwards! Would highly recommend SunLux for solar installation. Watch out for this company! They extensively advertise on my favorite radio station, KFI. They claim that not only do they sell and install solar systems, they are a certified roofing contractor. I was considering installing a solar system but also needed a new roof on my house. Their salesman came to our home on August 1 and submitted both a Solar panel proposal and a separate roofing contract proposal for $12,745. We decided that it didn't make economic sense to install the solar panels because we don't use enough electricity to justify the $26,000+. solar panel cost tha However, I notified the salesman that we would agree to the roofing contract and we sent the company the $1,000 deposit that they requested. Later, we were advised that they had made a mistake and had not considered the full square footage of our roof. We waited a few weeks for the promised revised contract. We never received the revised contract but instead got a text that it would take $28,000 for them to do the roof job!!!! Although Garrett Kramer From SunLux customer service posted that he had received our review and would be working with us to try to resolve our complaints, after fumbling around for a few weeks he came back to us and advised that the contract would have to be revise to $28,000 instead of $12,745. When we refused to accept the proposed modification, Garrett indicated the contract was voided!! This is despite the fact it was signed by Sunlux and is not "voidable" without our consent. We are going forward with arbitration to enforce our legal rights. I certainly would stay away from this company. read more

After posting my unsatisfied review I was contacted by Garrett (customer service manager) who was able to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Since my review my system has past inspection and is now running fully functional. I appreciate Garrett taking my concerns and addressing them with urgency. read more

I had my solar panels installed and approved for running. The problem now is customer service regarding the LG box's that allows me to monitor my panels. This box has not worked and I've called and emailed and texted. Jessica has not responded in the pass two weeks. I just want to be able to monitor my panels. The service was great up until I had a problem. Please fix my box. read more

Don't trust SunLux. They are not "experts in roofing" They're just out to make a easy buck on easy projects only. The salesman was great but the company couldn't back it up. I took entire morning off from work to meet their roofing manager for our project as scheduled and they never showed up. We followed up and they said that they decided the job was too complicated so they weren't gonna do it so they didn't come . They didn't have the courtesy to contact us and cancel appointment. Very disappointed and so annoyed to keep hearing their false adds on radio. pS our roof is rolled composite , on a very low pitch. The beams have few wedge risers to give it a stepped look. read more
