The avocado toast is so bad. The toast tastes like a thick, dense supermarket packaged wheat bread-it overpowers the very thin layer (VERY THIN) of pureed avocado. There was nothing but a few cherry tomato halves on top. There was onion in the very thin layer of pureed avocado. It's like they 'buttered' the bread with avocado cream. Basically you taste bread and onion. In photos on Yelp, you can see in the past there were radishes, greens, figs, etc. on the avocado toast, but not today; there were only cherry tomatoes. The worst part though, was that thick, dense supermarket-quality packaged wheat bread. The second worst part was how little avocado there was. Third worst, no chunky avocado pieces, it was baby-food smooth. That avocado toast was a waste of $12. Good avocado toast has a thick layer of chunky avocado, thicker than the slice of bread. We LOVE the coffee/date shake and anything else we order. Our servers are always sweet, helpful and attitude-less. Nice little spot that usually has a wait and high traffic during peak days and hours. I been there 3 times and every time it was around 8 pm on a Friday. Getting a table is easy if you set up with Yelp reservations. Twice I been able to get table same day. As for parking there is a big lot across the street just be careful when Jay walking but other than that they have little lot in front with valet on some days. I usually deal with street parking. Food wise it's good for what it is. Solid options and delicious for being vegan. Only problem is price. It's a little bit on the high end for "healthy" foods and makes you wonder why people are willing to eat junk for less but either way you're paying for the naturalness and quality. Taste is not amazing like you have to go, I am not vegan but I would rather go to few other spots, (4 letter word that starts with S and ends with E) and enjoy the food there for its taste. After a run/hike at Runyon Canyon we realized we needed to eat healthy. And the nearest vegan restaurant was SunCafe. I've never heard of SunCafe so I was like what the Hec? Idk what the hype is all about. Food was okay. I ordered the mushroom soup and the veggie gratin both were okay. A bit salty. So 3 stars for food. The service: just awful. I sat at a table in the bar area. For some reason there was a dishwasher tray with dishes next to my table on the bar. Not cute. Then another customer complained about something to a manager. The manager called over one of the staff and proceeded to discuss the complaint with her on the restaurant floor. Not professional. My waiter was not super attentive. It's pretty much needless to say how great this place is. The interior design is so cute and nice. There is a valet parking but hey there is ample street parking as well. Love the food. It's ALL VEGAN~~~ And you do not need to sacrifice for taste. We had lettuce taco, very healthy option that comes with lettuce leave instead of tortilla shell. we also got tempeh stir fry, It is so savory and good portion size for sharing with friends. Their lot is small and fills up quickly. On top of that, it is difficult to maneuver in and out of it because it is so tiny. You can find street parking in the residential areas nearby, but that in itself is also a hassle because the streets are narrow, windy, and on an uphill. Ambience: outdoor and indoor seating areas both look spacious and nice. We sat outdoors. Food: we ordered chorizo tacos (chorizo is soy free!), and the fresh burger?, with lettuce for bun (they have GF bread available). Forgot the name, also soy free! And a Caesar salad (GF croutons!). We went GF for this meal. ALL were delicious! The sauce on the burger was our favorite. I could not make this at home, and I cook quite a bit. This is a talented chef! Although people rave about their desserts, we opted out of because the sugar free is sweetened with agave (acts like high fructose corn syrup in the body). Not crazy about that. It's probably the easiest, and certainly better than yucky stevia . I wonder if you could create more fruit-sweetened recipes? Just throwing it out there. I really love this place, I've been going here for seven years. I love the jicama nachos, the cookie dough cheesecake is like crack to me. I was really hoping they wouldn't add fake processed meat when the food is so fresh with real organic, delicious, clean ingredients. Seeing that on the menu was a bit of a disappointment. Although my favorite time to eat suncafe is for brunch, their dinner has some good options also. My favorite brunch item is their tofu skillet which has and abundant of vegetables and potatoes which is topped of with soft tofu all baked in a skillet with slight spicy flavors which creates an amazing omelette like texture. Their pancakes are sweet, dense and gritty which creates a balance between sweet and savory. Four stars for the slow service even when there is no one at the restaurant and the cashew sauce that's always on top of everything. Word of advice- If you are soy free or nut free, this restaurant is pretty hard to order items from but they are accommodating to oil free requests and are more than accommodating to modify items per your request. read more
