Coming back to SunCafe after about three years felt nostalgic -- it's one of those places that's been part of the vegan scene for a while. I went with the Beyond Burger and a jackfruit taco. The burger was solid; flavorful, well put together, and something I'd definitely get again. The taco was a nice addition too. The space is still beautiful and has that relaxed, sit-down energy that's perfect if you're not in a rush. I will say, I would've appreciated a little more guidance when it came to choosing items on the menu, especially with so many options. But overall, the food still holds up. SunCafe is one of those wonderful restaurants that are hard to forget and easy to return to for several reasons. First of all, it features a cozy at-home feeling (this was probably once a house) both indoors and outdoors. I love sitting outside and enjoying some fresh air with a little sunshine--as long as it's not too hot. At night, they light up the patio with some pretty cute lights and a fire pit, which gives it some extra charming vibes! Second, they have an extensive menu, so there's plenty of options to pick and choose. This restaurant is mainly vegan and organic (which I LOVE!), but I recently noticed they created a vegetarian menu and just read a recent review stating they are also serving fish now. I know this can be very disappointing for vegans because it may seem like a purpose shift; and although I am vegetarian, I feel you because it was such an unexpected change, and the thought of cross-contamination is concerning--especially with fish. I am not sure why they decided to make this change because I've tried vegan sea food from many places and it's always been a hit. Now back to the point of why it's worthwhile: Third, food is amazing! Although kind of pricey, they do serve adequate portions, and organic restaurants are not too common, which is why we pay extra for it when we can. My favorite dishes are the Vegan breakfast burrito, Belgian waffle, Jackfruit and Mushroom tacos, Lasaña, and I recently tried their Portobello sandwich, which was delicious! I also love their fresh juices. However, their iced matcha was not my favorite; I only ordered it twice but both times I had it, it lacked in flavor because it either needed more matcha or less milk and ice. Everything else has always been fantastic. Lastly, everyone who works here is always so sweet and welcoming. Service is usually fast when I go in the morning-afternoon. However, I did dine-in once at night and it was slow, but pleasant nonetheless. I love this place! Thé lettuce wrap tacos are a great appetizer, any pizza with their cashew cheese is fantastic (I always ask for extra) and thé juices are so tasty and healthy. I've tried the nachos and penne as well and both were delicious. Service is pretty good, you seat yourself and someone takes your order. Everything we have had at SunCafe has been soooooo flavorful! From nachos, to smoothies, to benny- all have been excellent. The service can be a bit hit or miss, sometimes it's a bit slow when it's not even busy. And both times we have dined here, they play explicit hip/hop or rap, which is not the most chill to dine to, especially during brunch. My biggest regret about SunCafe, though, is that they started to serve fish and dairy. I understand this may open them up to more business? But for those of us that love a non-contaminated kitchen, the business decision to add animal products to the menu (and therefore in the kitchen) is a bummer. read more

I love SunCafe! It always hits. The nachos are a go-to for me and they did not dissapoint. The uncharged amethyst i think its called is amazing! Love a good mocktail/tonic. It's so pretty! It's overpriced as heck. The place is super cute though. The staff is nice but they will forget about you repeatedly. If you say "yeah I need another five minutes to look at the menu" they will give you 30. I paid 18 dollars for avocado toast. Now that's on me. That said, it was decent. I wish you got a little more. I wish the bread was a little thicker. I think you can get a way better avocado toast for a better price at black heart coffee. Speaking of coffee, the coffee here is pretty mid. Probably use the same cheap syrups they use everywhere. That's fine though this is a restaurant and not a coffee shop. I would never choose to go here but I don't mind when I end up here. I came here for brunch yesterday and was disappointed to see they are no longer vegan. I am happy that they still have the same vegan menu but I was a little worried my meal now might not really be vegan, since so many of the same menu options are now on the pescatarian menu. Nevertheless, the service was great and friendly and prompt. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived and we were the only ones sitting inside. We opted for some flavored lattes and French toast and waffles. The quality wasn't as good as it used to be and the French toast wasn't quite as flavorful but I did still enjoy it. I particularly love their coconut whipped cream. The restaurant is cozy yet gorgeous and their patio is amazing. It had been chilly when we arrived or I would have sat out there. I tried the Mac and Cheese and the Blueberry Cheesecake. The Blueberry Cheesecake was delicious, it's a beautiful purple color with fresh blueberries layered in the middle. The Mac and Cheese was interesting, in terms of taste it was decent but the top baked layer was a bit hard and rubbery. I agree with many of the past reviews that certain items need more work. I am a former customer of SunCafe for their Delicious Vegetarian Options this review isn't concerning the food but server's knowledge on food ingredients, I came in the other day to crab a bite to go I also ask the person at front if there was any dessert free of Nuts because I have a someone who is extremely allergic to them he seem very sure of he's response and gave me couple options short story short we ended at the Urgency Care for their crust contain NUTS now this isn't something to play with you server's and waitress should always be sure of what you are serving in someone else's plate I called and all they did was apologize I'm glad the situation did not escalate and he's now recovering from this stupid mistake. What a gem within the city! We had just spent a long day of walking and riding at Universal Studios and it was pretty late by the time we reached the car.... We had 2 vegetarian's and 1 that will eat anything, so we wanted something beyond standard chain fast food. I did a quick Yelp search, of course, and discovered SunCafe. Fantastic spot for everyone! I've been vegetarian for over 10 years and SunCafe is authentically vegan in the best way. They offer everything from raw kale lasagna (a personal fave) to cheesecake. The food is always so fresh and delicious. The dining is so fun as they offer a gorgeous outdoor patio and cozy inside seating options. The staff just make the restaurant a 5-star experience. Everyone is so kind, from the wait-staff to the cooks. Very easy to park here as they have their own lot and plenty of on-street parking. Its also close to Universal Studios and Ventura. Unfortunately, like most vegan places, they have had to add some pescetarian menu items to reach to a wider audience. I know this can seem a bit disappointing to some, but it's completely understandable and actually works if you bring a friend who typically prefers non-plant-based protein (a.k.a my bestie lol). If you've had it you know why I say that; if you haven't, have it. They service all types of cuisine - from French American to Italian to Japanese (including sushi and ramen!) to Mexican and even Greek/middle eastern. Well this was fantastic!! The "chicken" and waffles were sooooo good! My granddaughter had an açaí bowl and still lived up on our meal. I've been coming to SunCafe for years and had a really upsetting experience when I came in for brunch. I went to sit in the outdoor firepit area, which has always felt like a communal space. Since there were no open tables, I politely asked another woman if I could share hers, and she said yes. A redheaded waitress came over, assumed we were friends, and when I explained we weren't, her tone immediately shifted. She sharply told me it was "wait to be seated" and walked away. I went inside to calmly ask if I had done something wrong, and instead of a simple explanation, she became hostile and accusatory--saying I was "encroaching" on the other guest's space. The interaction felt public and confrontational, and I left feeling bullied, singled out, and unwelcome. As a woman coming in alone for brunch, that already takes a certain level of comfort, and this made me feel unnecessarily uncomfortable. I now understand there is a sign indoors, but nothing clearly visible outside, which makes this confusing. This isn't the first time this has happened either. What made this unacceptable was not the policy--it was the way it was handled. I reached out through their website and never received a response. I've always enjoyed coming here, but this experience completely changed how I feel about returning. read more

I can't say enough good things about SunCafe! An amazing assortment of both vegan and gluten-free options. They also seem to have started serving fish and eggs as well for non-vegans. Everything here except what is in the paper printed menu is V/V+. On top of that you'll find that these are some of the best recipes produced so they're not only healthy their delicious as well. The paper menu seems to accompany the regular menu in case someone in your party happens to not be V or V plus. Portions were larger than expected, and can easily be split between two people and most cases. Desserts can go up to four for the larger skillet and ice cream sandwich. Because this restaurant is actually fairly spread out between a very large patio and a large segmented interior space, service can at times be a bit spotty because it's hard to see every customer in every location. put on the plus side this means your meal is not interrupted every five minutes with someone checking on you or taking things away. The dessert display at the front of the restaurant is a preview of the coming attractions and yes, they are as delicious as they look in the case. I love places like this where you completely forget that you're actually eating totally meatless things because the food is so delicious it never crosses your mind. There's anything different about it other than it's really great. There's parking for about 12 cars in the small lot in front of the restaurant and another dozen or so street parking with meters. This restaurant is also very ADA compliant. There's a small selection of zero alcohol tails, and I didn't see any nonalcoholic beers on the menu. But they do have a very wide coffee and tea selection. And their smoothies and other blended concoctions are extremely tasty and well worth the prices. read more
