The French fries were also a standout--crispy, flavorful, and some of the best I've had. Here's why I won't be back: When we were seated, the host dropped four laminated 3"x5"(ish) cards with a QR code on the table. The cards were pretty beat up, with the lamination peeling apart. I'm not a fan of looking at a menu on my phone, but figured I'd roll with it and give it a try. The menu is extensive, and the web page poorly designed. Once you're able to navigate to the part of the menu you're interested in, typically two items can be viewed at one time. Finding more menu items or comparing with dishes you already saw takes a frustrating amount of scrolling back and forth. When I had had enough, I asked the server if I could have a printed menu. There are none. The QR scroll is the *only* option. What happens if I don't have a smart phone, I asked? "I have to stand here and recite the menu," she replied. "And it's huge." I told her that it was very frustrating, and if not for the fact that I was with three other hungry people, I would've gotten up and left. I won't be back. Like I said, the food was good and plentiful. I don't know if I got what I would've liked best, because I finally got tired of scrolling and just settled for what was on the screen at the time. Not everyone has a smart phone, and those that do don't like scrolling a large menu on a six-inch screen. Do your business a favor; stop pissing off your customers. We ordered their Huevos rancheros (tequila sunrise) and breakfast tacos and did not eat neither plate. Personally I did not think they were picture worthy so I didn't get a picture of them. Well, bad news first. It gets super crowded and there is often a line to get in and parking can be a bear. But the line moves pretty fast. Once in the service is pretty fast and they will get your order right. They are very nice and can guide you through the menu. They have vegan, gluten free, and vegan options. We have been there several times for breakfast and lunch. They have a full bar and it looks good, but we have never tried it. The place is very clean and cute. It is small, but it is comfortable and they have some outdoor seating and a counter. The food is so good. We love their pancakes and their French toast. They have huge portions and a wide selection of pancakes and French toast. My favorite is just their regular stack with eggs and hash browns. Their French press coffee is great. Quick service and fast to be seated. Our waitress was really helpful helping us narrow down between several options. She however did not mention just how gigantic the portion sizes were. You can park in the lot that once was Rite Aid for a fee apparently. The wait wasn't that long to get a booth. Not to big of a place so wait could be long for a large party. The menu has a lot to choose from. Have your phone ready to scan the QR to check out the menu. You choose the Hash It Out. You can choose from ground beef or turkey. I went with the turkey. Hash was great because it was made fresh. Some places give you that ready made hash. Not here. The portion was just right so I could still have room for the reason I came here. The pancakes. I ordered the Black Magic for me and the family. Three massive stacked pancakes made with Oreo topped with whip cream. The pancakes were good without the syrup. Honestly it was like having a cake. I really enjoy the raspberry and lemon flavor combo in general with pastries so this combination in pancake form was a natural fit for my taste buds. Regardless, there was a good amount left over because it was so massive. Mom's French Toast is their classic dish that put them on the map. It was good. However, it wasn't anything that I couldn't have whipped up myself at home with thick pieces of toast like they used. However I would have cooked it in bacon grease from wood smoked bacon grease! Still good though. The biggest let down was the Red Velvet pancake. Fortunately they only give you one pancake and not three like the Barry Yellow. As someone who has baked my share of red velvet cakes, finding a great recipe for the batter is important but what will make or break things is the frosting. This one fell short on the batter and the frosting. Without real cream cheese frosting then it's not going to cut it. The Griddle has been one of my absolute favorite places in LA for 20 years. I used to live in the neighborhood and came here all the time! My go to was usually the baked potato omelet, or sometimes the breakfast tacos. Or if I wanted something sweet, I'd go with the blueberry pancakes with blueberry sour cream (not TOO sweet!). Pro tip: the pancakes are HUGE, so if an entire plate of them is too intimidating, you can order just a single pancake. Also, at least once - maybe on your birthday or some other day you're feeling particularly decadent - you have to try the red velvet pancake.
