Tons of shrimp, crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato on perfectly grilled bread. Such a simple combination, but everything worked together so well. And the mountain of fries on the side definitely makes this a meal you could easily share. Of course, you can't go to The Griddle without getting French toast. Thick slices, perfectly golden on the outside and soft in the middle, topped with powdered sugar and butter. Add some syrup and it's basically breakfast heaven. This is definitely not the place for a light breakfast , but that's exactly why I love it. After being loyal customers for close to 20 years, my children and I went to the Griddle on Sunset this morning. My younger daughter has a service dog which they wouldn't allow into the restaurant , the manager was rude and dismissive demanding the dog's service papers, and her disability, which is against the law. I was absolutely DISGUSTED so we had no choice but to leave! We left! So it seems that the only way to eat at the Griddle is if you don't have a disability! This review is strictly for the food. My husband ordered blueberry pancakes. He got three GIANT blueberry pancakes. He was only able to eat one, and he's a big man! He took the other two home and I ate them for the next two days. They were so beautiful. I note that the pancakes came with some sort of yogurt topping which we removed. I recommend asking for whipped cream or butter on top, not the yogurt. I got the hoagie omelette. It was so delicious. It came with Italian sausage and my sausage was perfectly cooked with a little burnt edge - just the way I like it. I got a decaf coffee that came in a French press. Service was fast and nice. We have been there several times for breakfast and lunch. They have a full bar and it looks good, but we have never tried it. The place is very clean and cute. It is small, but it is comfortable and they have some outdoor seating and a counter. The food is so good. We love their pancakes and their French toast. If I could give a negative review I would Unbelievable! I've been coming here for over twenty years and have a service dog for a medical condition I have! She has been inside dozens of times with me. I went this morning with my SERVICE DOG, not a pet, they wouldn't let me sit inside and gave me a problem even sitting outside. I was asked for her papers and what kind of medical condition I have that I need a service dog, which are illegal to ask someone who has a service dog. Honestly it was like having a cake. I really enjoy the raspberry and lemon flavor combo in general with pastries so this combination in pancake form was a natural fit for my taste buds. Regardless, there was a good amount left over because it was so massive. Mom's French Toast is their classic dish that put them on the map. It was good. However, it wasn't anything that I couldn't have whipped up myself at home with thick pieces of toast like they used. However I would have cooked it in bacon grease from wood smoked bacon grease! Still good though. The biggest let down was the Red Velvet pancake. Fortunately they only give you one pancake and not three like the Barry Yellow. As someone who has baked my share of red velvet cakes, finding a great recipe for the batter is important but what will make or break things is the frosting. This one fell short on the batter and the frosting. Without real cream cheese frosting then it's not going to cut it. I used to come to The Griddle years ago and always remembered it being pretty good, so I was excited to come back after about a two-year break. Unfortunately, this visit was really disappointing. We had a group of seven people, including a baby in a stroller. Since the inside is pretty small and crowded, we asked if we could sit outside so the stroller wouldn't be in everyone's way. There was nobody sitting outside when we arrived, but we were met with a lot of attitude just for asking. Once we were seated outside, we were put at the table furthest from the restaurant, right next to a strong urine smell. The table closer to the restaurant was completely empty, so we politely asked if we could sit there instead. Rather than simply explaining why we couldn't move, the manager came over with a lot of attitude and was surprisingly rude and aggressive in the way he spoke to us. It felt completely unnecessary, especially since we were just trying to avoid sitting next to the smell of urine while eating. He refused to let us move and gave some excuse that honestly didn't make much sense. What made it even more frustrating was that those tables stayed empty for at least another 30 minutes while we were there. The food was also a letdown. We ordered the Fiesta Scramble, and it was very basic. Nothing about it stood out, and I honestly could have made a better scramble at home. We also got the banana pancakes because our server said they were one of their most popular items. They were fine, but definitely not worth the hype. For a place that's so well known for its pancakes, I expected a lot more. The one thing I will give them credit for is the portion sizes, they are huge. One order of pancakes could easily feed three people. Also, our server was very friendly and was probably the best part of the experience. Parking in the back is $5, although that's apparently controlled by the landlord and not the restaurant. Overall, I left wondering what happened to this place. Between the manager's attitude, being forced to sit next to the smell of urine despite empty tables being available, and the very average food, I was pretty underwhelmed. I ordered the Black Magic for me and the family. Three massive stacked pancakes made with Oreo topped with whip cream. The pancakes were good without the syrup. Here's why I won't be back: When we were seated, the host dropped four laminated 3"x5"(ish) cards with a QR code on the table. The cards were pretty beat up, with the lamination peeling apart. I'm not a fan of looking at a menu on my phone, but figured I'd roll with it and give it a try. The menu is extensive, and the web page poorly designed. Once you're able to navigate to the part of the menu you're interested in, typically two items can be viewed at one time. Finding more menu items or comparing with dishes you already saw takes a frustrating amount of scrolling back and forth. When I had had enough, I asked the server if I could have a printed menu. There are none. The QR scroll is the *only* option. What happens if I don't have a smart phone, I asked? "I have to stand here and recite the menu," she replied. "And it's huge." I told her that it was very frustrating, and if not for the fact that I was with three other hungry people, I would've gotten up and left. I won't be back. Like I said, the food was good and plentiful. I don't know if I got what I would've liked best, because I finally got tired of scrolling and just settled for what was on the screen at the time. Not everyone has a smart phone, and those that do don't like scrolling a large menu on a six-inch screen. Do your business a favor; stop pissing off your customers.
