It seems every year I come back to this place and every time is an interesting experience. The service was mediocre and the food was average. When I first discovered this place, the food was good. When I returned today however, the food is no longer what it used to be. I always thought the food here was good, but this time was not. Their buffalo chicken sandwich was not good. The sandwich came out cold. The buns were cold and hard, the chicken wasn't crispy even though it was drenched in buffalo sauce I can tell it was old because there was no texture whatsoever. No flavor also. It was really bland it needed seasoning. Their Buffalo sauce was also bad. It was literally TABASCO. I can tell what hot sauce it was. It didn't even taste at all like buffalo sauce which is easy to replicate or even buy. Salad was a decent portion with the sandwich but the dressing wasn't what I remembered it to be. It tasted bland, lacked flavor. The salad was dressed but the dressing didn't taste like anything. It was more sour tasting than Caesar dressing. The breakfast panini portion was also SMALL. I was a bit surprised. Such a small sandwich with a small side of mash and gravy for $20+ Overall the experience wasn't great. Thinking back, I always remembered about this place and how good the food was and wanting to return. I don't live in the area and drive 40mins. What was once a great restaurant with amazing vegan options has become a shell of itself. Our recent brunch takeout order is the last time we'll be supporting them. We ordered a vegan version of the SunCafe Breakfast Plate with 3 slices of BeLeaf bacon, waffle, and extra crispy hashbrowns. What we got was partially uncooked hashbrowns and 2 half-sized vegan bacon "squares." I called to request a partial refund for the breakfast plate and was offered an in-person credit. I asked for a manager and was hung up on. When I called back, the gal said that there was no manager on duty and did not know if/when one would be on-site. I then asked how to contact the owners and was angrily told to email them before being hung up on. She would not give me her name. Came here Sunday at 2pm. Plenty of free parking at the meters today and a small parking lot for the restaurant. 20 minutes and no water has been brought over yet. There's 3 tables of us looking around for a server. My friend who made our reservation said our table was given away because there is no host upfront and people just ask a waiter can they take a seat. She called the waiter out on it and they moved the party of two to a two top table Around 35 mins after being here all the tables near us food starts coming out, so they must of waited longer and the kitchen is caught up. Heard a lot of apologizing from the main waitress outdoors to different tables. Maybe they're understaffed? I saw the "host" buss a table while sitting someone at it lol. My friend kept promising the food would makeup for the service. Just saw another couple complain about never being approached. Onto the positives: the beyond meat burger was amazing. I don't know what I love more about this place...the food or the cute oasis they've created. I can't choose but I do know my absolutely favorite thing on the menu is their Strawberry Cheesecake. I daydream about it constantly and I can't manage to be in the area without wanting to stop in for a slice. To me it's hands down the best vegan cheesecake I've tasted. It's so yum it's never had a chance to have it's pic taken because I scarf it down so fast. So I posted some pics of the hummus and Reuben I had. Both yummy in their own right. This cozy little vegan restaurant serves some of the best vegan food I've ever tasted in my life. Took my mom here for her first vegan experience, and it was nothing short of lovely. We got there around 1:30, and it wasn't too busy. We sat on the outdoor patio and ordered Matcha Latte with oat milk and agave, the Omelette (it's made with mung bean, pico, spinach, veggies, mushrooms, Violife Parmesan and sour cream, topped with avocado) and a side of Caesar Salad, and I got the Baked Lasagna (brown rice noodles, walnut pesto, marinara, cashew ricotta & spinach, topped w/cashew cheese). Both dishes were so delicious. Our server, Paul, was nothing short of a lovely human being. Service was great, and we received our food in a timely manner. I spent my birthday with 3 other Tauruses a few Saturdays ago...it was fully packed with only 2 or 3 servers who did an amazing job. However, I ordered the Eggs Benedict as did my friend...and they were served to us halfway through the meal of my other friends...the eggs were cold, watery and bland...I never knew that poached eggs could be so dull...I ordered the Lox and Avocado Benedict...the Lox (tiny portion) on the muffin, with avocado slices on the side not on the muffin. Truly unappetizing... I called the restaurant to tell management. I called twice...I never received a call back..I was asked from the first call, why I didn't tell the server or request another dish...but we were already waiting halfway through the meal of my friends and didn't want to wait another 20 minutes to eat. On March 8, 2026, I was threatened in the parking lot by a Sun Cafe employee who verbally intimidated and harassed me. I've been a Sun Café customer for seven years, and it was my favorite restaurant, but this incident was terrifying and has made me afraid to return. It took a week to calm down and write an email to the owner/manager. I did not get a response, so I wrote a 2nd email to let them know that if I did not hear back by then, I would share my experience in a Yelp review. I let them know that I would prefer the opportunity to resolve this directly with them first but I received no response. I stopped by Sun Café that afternoon for take out, but instead decided to relax and sit at an outdoor table. A busser named AJ was standing near the door, and I asked him if they had the dessert I wanted, which had been sold out lately. He said, sharply, "I don't know, you'll have to ask your server." I asked if I needed someone to seat me in order to sit outside. He abruptly said, "Yes, I'll seat you." [[HIGHLIGHT]]I followed him to one of the benches near the fire which was not on because it was hot outside. Those seats don't provide enough back support, so I asked if I could sit in the corner where it felt more comfortable. He abruptly said, "No, that table is reserved."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I told him that I saw the reserved sign on a table on the other side of the patio but that there was no reserved sign on the table I wanted. He claimed they had many reservations for groups of 3 and 4 arriving soon. I told him that I'm a regular customer and that I often call ahead to reserve a table. When I arrive, the table has a reserved sign on it. He said, "I guess you're going to get your way," in a rude tone, and I said, "Thank you." I understand the restaurant business, and I would never ask to take a 4-top table when it was even slightly busy. There was only one table occupied outside. It was a warm day, and the other customers present were at tables inside. Two parties of two came in after me and they sat outside. They were served before me, but I was okay with it. I just wanted to relax. When the server came to take my order, she kindly let me know that they did not have the dessert I wanted. I asked her why they haven't had it lately, and she said the bakers aren't coming on the weekends. I decided to try something different but didn't care for it, so I asked for a to-go container to take for my husband. I sat for another 20 minutes, paid the bill at 3:06 p.m., and headed to my car. AJ was standing in the parking lot beside the garbage. I don't know how long he had been there, but it seemed like he was waiting for me. As I passed by, I heard him say something to the effect of, "I want to talk to you." I thought he was going to apologize for being so unfriendly. Maybe he was having a bad day. Instead, he threatened me and said, "Don't ever talk to me or any of my co-workers like that." I was thrown and said, "What are you talking about?" "You were arguing with me." I said, "I come here regularly and reserve a table. There was no reserved sign on the table, and the place was pretty much empty." He said, " You are still arguing with me." I felt afraid and I told him that I wanted to talk with the manager. He said his boss was my server. I went inside and spoke with her and told her how upset I was that AJ approached me in the parking lot. She apologized and told me why he didn't want me to sit there. She said he should have explained that and should have said I could sit there this time because it was empty. I told her I would have appreciated that. I told her that this was my favorite restaurant and that I regularly introduce it to people who have never heard of it. Because of this incident, I didn't want to come back. She said that she would talk with AJ. She was very kind and treated me the way I felt any business should treat a customer. I actually own a business, and quality customer service is essential to our success. In my email to the owner, I said I loved their menu, the atmosphere, and some of their servers who go above and beyond, like Ricardo and Jack. That's why over the years I have recommended Sun Café to anyone who asks for dining suggestions. My hostile encounter with AJ changed that. Because I've heard nothing back from the owner ensuring customer safety, I won't recommend Sun Café to anyone. I will continue to seek out other restaurants, which I wouldn't have done if this hadn't happened. read more

Not crazy about the hotel, but found myself at this fantastic place several times. They are open every day, all day and night. Driving from San Bernardino to San Francisco, I needed to stop for some food before heading up north. I found SunCafe on the map and directly along my route so I stopped by for a quick brunch. I sat on their cute outdoor patio and perused their all-vegan & all-organic menus. So many delicious options that made it difficult to choose! I chose the 'Just Egg' veggie omelet with a side of Caesar salad. I also ordered the White Truffle Pizza to-go so I could easily eat while driving in the car. I'm a big fan of Just Egg, so I really enjoyed the omelet. The veggies inside are well-cooked and seasoned nicely. The Caesar salad arrived really dry so I had to request more dressing. Overall the portion size is perfect for one person. I thought the white truffle pizza is a bit dry, even when it came out fresh, but at least it made it easy to eat while driving. The crust is made from whole wheat and it is topped with a white truffle sauce and a variety of veggies. Overall, the flavor is good but can just use a little more sauce. I drank an amazing dirty chai latte and she got regular coffee. Only complaint was the coffee was a dark roast; she prefers medium or light. No biggie! The brunch menu is substantial and varied. The coffee and tea menu is similarly bigger than I realized, since I'm used to coming here for dinner, alcohol, or smoothies. Every vegan restaurant is a fav for me! We stopped by on a Tuesday at around 7pm and were able to squeeze into the parking lot and grab a spot by the heaters on the patio! We ordered the "favorites" per the menu: the raw nachos, lasagna, and mini mac n cheese. The mac n cheese was definitely a FAVORITE--wouldn't have guessed that it was vegan as it was super "cheesy!". The nachos were great as well, but I didn't love the jicama chips as they were not supportive of the toppings. I ended up going home and baking it so it would be slightly crispier. Lasagna was so so good as well, again, would not have guessed that it was vegan! We also ordered some "cheesecake" to bring home. At $15 a slice, it was slightly expensive but so so good. Not creamy like an actual cheesecake, but it had the texture of frozen yogurt (not the actual dessert like Yogurtland but as if you froze some greek yogurt at home). FOOD: I am basing this only on four items that we ordered. First, as a starter we ordered the gyoza. The menu indicates you'll get five. We received four. I'm not going to say that we complained because we didn't and, it may have been that this was the happy hour size/price and I tend to remain cool and pretty quiet about such things the first time I visit any establishment. The cauliflower steak dish (pictured) was good. I enjoyed it. The sauce was satisfying. The potatoes were well-seared, but I would have preferred some more seasoning for the two side veggies; they were dependent on that sauce for a lot of their flavor. The caramelization of the cauliflower was good on one side, but more of it on both sides would have given it that umami punch that it needed on its own. The French cut green beans were not al dente, but still retained their color and fresh flavor, so that's good. My companion had the baked lasagna. It is touted as their most popular dish. Dessert was the pistachio cheesecake. That earned the title of "best of the meal." It was well-presented, full of pistachio flavor, with a pleasant pecan/date crust. I'm a fan of cashew whipped cream, so I immediately took possession of the little decorative swirl on top with pistachios and goji berries. It wasn't cloyingly sweet, which made us both very happy. Just the right amount of sweetness, with the right-sized portion for its richness, made for a good end to the meal.
