I ordered the chicken strips with fries, while my partner ordered a two-piece chicken dinner with macaroni salad and spicy rice. Although we had to wait a little while for the food, it arrived hot. We both agreed that it was some of the best fast-food fried chicken we had ever eaten. The chicken was moist and the batter was crispy. My fries were good, and my partner's macaroni salad and spicy rice were both flavorful. We especially loved the biscuit. I also couldn't help noticing that although the dining room feels like something of a relic, it is very well maintained. There were no dirty tables and no trash on the floor. I was genuinely shocked when the cashier came out to ask how everything was and whether we needed anything else. Most fast-food chains seem determined to eliminate as much human interaction as possible. Pioneer Chicken was a refreshing reminder that fast food can still be friendly, clean and satisfying. Pioneer Chicken is a winner in my book!

The Bicol Express sauce was too sweet for our taste, while the filling itself was quite dry. The sauce on the duck pancit was also extremely salty. We were hoping our drinks would help cleanse our palates and balance out the meal, but they were forgotten and didn't arrive until the very end. To top things off, after we paid, our credit card wasn't returned to us, and we had to ask another server to retrieve it. Overall, this was a really disappointing experience, especially since we chose this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and had such great experiences here in the past. We know they're capable of providing a much better experience, which made this visit even more frustrating. After this experience, it's unlikely that we'll be coming back anytime soon. That said, because our previous visits were so enjoyable, we might be willing to give them another try in the future and hope this was simply an off night.

I got it with the faux chicken, which had a really meat-like texture and just the right amount of tenderness. The carrots and bean sprouts were crisp and added a nice crunch. It wasn't too heavy and I felt really good afterwards. Parking is really easy either at a metered spot in front, on the residential streets on the side or in their adjacent parking lot. It was missing the amount of savoriness I was familiar with. However, it did have the sweetness that I've usually tried in pad thai from other restaurants. The soy meat did have a similar texture to that of traditional chicken, but it left an aftertaste that I didn't really like. The soy chicken had the same mostly sweet flavor as the noodles. It was even better putting lime on the noodles, and the vegetables helped in adding good flavor. As an appetizer, the fried tofu tasted good with the sweet and sour sauce. I was able to finish the whole appetizer before I got my noodles. The ambience was quiet as I was the first customer, but it gradually got louder as more people arrived. There was a mosquito that bit me, so that wasn't fun. Looking back, it's ironic that this happened inside a vegan restaurant. That aside, I was regularly checked in on by the staff and had my water refilled. Service is definitely a strength here, and it was nice seeing locals talk with the staff.

To me, this is what one would call BAIT AND SWITCH. Now let's get on to what was ordered.. My wife ordered the Vegan Egg Scramble.. and mind you, the photo that they showcase both on Yelp and Google, is FAR FROM what they served. The key to this dish is the vegan egg... not the veggies... .and you can see from our posted photos, from this a.m. there's barely anything there... which is why my wife didn't eat it. This business shows that you can still have all the flavors and not rely on cheese and meat. They focus on the flavors and not what would make non-vegans feel comfortable.
