SunCafe is certainly one of my go to spots whenever I'm in LA. I usually stop by for their raw foods but today, I came through for some breakfast. As usual, they delivered. Their parking lot is small, but there is metered street parking. The dining area is spacious, with a spacious inside and outside. As much as I wanted a waffle or pancakes, I opted for their omelette which came with a side-I chose mashed potatoes and gravy- and I ordered a side of their mini mac and cheese. How am I gonna finish all this food? Luckily, the portions weren't huge. I certainly had room for dessert so I ordered one of those huge chocolate chip cookies. Honestly would give this place 5 stars if they had better service. And I'm not talking about "unfriendly" servers. But u have to wait FOREVER. Arrived at the restaurant at 10:51am, and it is now 11:07am, and other than the gentleman that sat me, no one has come over to ask me if I need anything. I mean, come on. I could have had a coffee to sip on while waiting. And this is definitely NOT the first time I've come here and this has happened. Really good vegan spot with a nice outdoor patio. The Sun Nachos are worth the hype -- super flavorful, filling, and you honestly don't miss the dairy. I also tried the Green Guru smoothie, and it was fresh without tasting too "healthy," if that makes sense. Service was friendly but a little slow, especially when it got busier. Parking is annoying (as expected in Studio City), but once you're inside, the vibe is really relaxed. The menu is super broad -- and I'm grateful for the variety: there are a lot of items that you don't often see made vegan. I got the breakfast plate and my husband grabbed the burger. Two items, you wouldn't expect to pay $80, would ya? Well, that's where you're wrong, kiddo. Tax + average tip left me wondering why the f it was so much: it better be good! So pro tip to restaurants: don't charge an exorbitant amount if you don't have the flavors to back it up. You're just setting higher expectations than you need to. So with the high expectations, the burger had a long way to fall. That burger was the equivalent of something you would have had to heavily modify at a non veg establishment. +$2 for avocado? Let's make sure it was just a whisper. +$2 for cashew cheese? Surely the customer wants just cheese ~essence~, right? We seriously felt like it was a joke to pay an additional $4 to try to make the burger more than just a plain burger only for there to be mere whispers of additional flavor. Oh, but my breakfast plate? Delicious, adored the French toast [I rarely see vegan French toast on a menu, so I jumped on the opportunity], bacon was cool, hashbrowns are always a necessity, the just egg was not seasoned but I guess my tapatio took care of that. I have been coming here before they moved to this location. Best vegan food used to be the best rock food. They still have lots of raw things fabulous desserts, and such a wide variety on their menu. There's something for everybody . I have so many favorites on the menu from the shakes to the entrées, love the lettuce, leave tacos there's some Baja tacos I think they still have those their desserts are out of the world. Had the best experience yesterday here at SunCafe Organic! My boyfriend and I decided to go on a little lunch date before an event in the evening. The outdoor seating is so cozy. We were able to sit on a comfy couch at our table with a pretty fire pit in front of us. It is so gorgeous with lots of cute areas to sit outside, leafy and shady areas to cozy couch seating to indoor seating! I got the nachos with the SunCafe chorizo, which was soooo amazing. It's a massive portion!! But it is so fresh with the guacamole, pico de Gallo, sour cream, cheese, all plant-based. I was blown away with how hard they went on these nachos, they were amazing truly! I've never had plant-based cheese or crema, but this was so refreshing and delicious. Also, extra points because I'm lactose-intolerant (,: My boyfriend got the Fettuccine Alfredo, it was definitely not for us. I'm sure there are plenty of other people that might like it. But the sauce was kinda strange tasting, and the texture of the noodles really threw us both off. We're both texture people and they were just very different and uncomfortable for us to eat. My boyfriend also kind of impulse ordered so, I could've warned him against it honestly LOL I knew it wouldn't be the fettuccine he has always known but, Our server was so sweet. She replaced the dish with something that was so delicious!! As a replacement we got the lettuce leaf tacos, the lettuce was so crisp and kept intact while eating. I believe it had the SunCafe chorizo I believe, so it was amazing. The pico de gallo, avocado, radish were looooaded onto the lettuce leaf taco. Incredible. I don't really think of myself as a vegan or vegetarian, but I don't typically like eating animal product because it freaks me out. So this restaurant was such an amazing experience as a Latina going somewhere with nachos that were so delicious, I almost forgot they were plant-based. After tonight's dinner at Sun Cafe, I felt my review could use a little refresh. You see, I kicked off my birthday celebration early this year, dining with the Eeg brothers--dear friends of mine for decades. I'm lucky enough to have a half dozen friends who not only remember my birthday but make a point of celebrating it by taking me out to eat. I like to keep these outings to smaller groups because, well, it stretches out the free meals! Why settle for one big bash when you can milk birthday cheer multiple times? This year's pre-Easter birthday bucket list (since I am observing lent) included Sun Cafe (vegan), Electric Karma (Indian), Houston's (because grilled artichokes are life), and a few post-Easter picks like Papa Cristo's and Ca' Del Sole. Being the gracious carnivores they are, the Eeg brothers humored me with a visit to Sun Cafe, a vegan gem. And guess what? They were surprisingly impressed! We shared a smorgasbord of goodies: two plates of Bordelaise, one baked lasagna, a coffee date cashew smoothie, mud pie, and almond butter cheesecake. The ambiance won them over, the food delighted them, and Juju, our server, sealed the deal with her friendliness and attentiveness. Juju, you're a star - I'll definitely ask for you next time! Now, let's talk Bordelaise. It's my go-to dish - a comforting combo of portabella mushrooms, mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, and bordelaise sauce. Unfortunately, this time it was more "room temp-laise" than piping hot. We were famished, so we dug in anyway rather than sending it back to be reheated. And those green beans? A bit too al dente. Another minute of blanching would have done wonders. Despite my tiny nitpicks, the Eeg brothers loved everything- the vibe, the food, the stellar service - and even mentioned bringing their spouses next time. My overall rating? Still a solid 4 stars. I'll dock half a star in my mind for the lukewarm Bordelaise, but Juju's fabulous service earned that half-star back. Sun Cafe continues to shine brightly on my vegan restaurant list. read more

SERVICE - located very close to Universal Studios right off of the freeway - large parking lot in front - cute outdoor patio makes it feel like you are dining at someone's home - outdoor gas heated fireplace keeps area warm - servers are very friendly and regularly check in with diners for water, food quality, etc - food served relatively quickly MENU - all vegan with a variety of cuisines - mostly gluten free - slightly pricey ($20 per entree) FOOD - super sun nachos (7/10): I ordered these with half jicama and half tortilla chips and the house sunflower chorizo. You could also choose soyrizo. The portion is huge and can easily be shared between a few people as an appetizer. I liked the mix of the chips and the jicama but I would have liked the jicama to be cut smaller since some of the large pieces were hard to eat. The toppings tasted really good, especially the nacho cheese. Once we got to the bottom of the plate, there was not much topping left so maybe it would have been better to layer the dish rather than pile it onto a plate. Overall, I really liked it and can see why it is one of their best selling dishes. WOULD I COME BACK? Yes! I want to try some of the dishes from the brunch menu and some of the desserts. read more

It's been heats since my last review of this place. I live their ambiance especially the outside for pit and patio lights. The staff have always been very friendly. I truly miss their uniqueness of being fully raw vegan but I know they must have wanted to cater to the masses. I just wish they were a bit healthier like no beyond meat or heavy oils but what can ya do? I used to love their kale salad but the last two times I got it it wasn't good. The kale wasn't massaged at all and the dressing was very faint. It seemed like I was eating just plain, hard kale out of a bag. I got the one raw meal on their menu- the zucchini lasagna. I remember it being better. I'm not sure how but maybe didn't ingredients or something in it was dehydrated. It tasted like a stacked salad. Though the middle part has more flavor and it did taste better the next day after the zucchini had time to soften. I highly miss their other raw menu items especially my favorite which was the raw Mexican pizza. RIP delicious meal! Their desserts and shakes are yummy and many I believe are raw. My partner got the pot pie that was tasty. I love that there is a nice, spacious, plant-based restaurant with table service that has so many meal options. Even non vegans would enjoy this place. I like the place and I like the vibe. It was neat inside, relaxed atmosphere. I love the wishing tree idea! I loved all the pillows and pictures. The place has its own charm. The server was cool. I can't give excellent score only because of lacking flavors. I'm a bit disappointed with my ramen. It was good, but it wasn't wow, like some other vegan places I tried. The broth could use a bit more flavor. The deserts were excellent! The vanilla latte I ordered wasn't bad but was a bit overpowering with syrup. In terms of pricing, a bit on a pricey side in my opinion, but then again, a lot of vegan places has this mentality to overcharge a bit. I do recommend this place and I will be back. Wonderful cafe featuring organic vegan food. It reminded me of the Organic Grill in New York. They have a rotating flavor of local kombucha on draft. They also offer a "mini" size of a number of their dishes which is such a great idea. I got the "mini" nachos and demolished them, but I'm pretty sure I would need multiple friends to eat the full-size portion because even the mini version was pretty sizeable! After reading all these amazing reviews about SunCafe, I finally decided to give this place a try with a girlfriend who also loves vegan food. I am a bit disappointed because we ordered Buffalo cauliflower, but received bbq instead... at the first few bites we assumed this was their version of cauliflower "wings", but after ordering the bbq butternut squash pizza - the cauliflower were def tossed in bbq and not Buffalo. Not to mention that there was no breading, which caused the flavor to not stick to the cauliflower. Meh, will not get next time. The pizza was OK, we were debating on this one or the white truffle pizza and let's just say we won't be ordering this one again. The mini nachos were good, I'm a fan of nut cheeses instead of oil based vegan cheeses. I just wish the tortilla chips weren't so salty. I wanted to try the blueberry or strawberry cheesecake, but that may have to wait til next time! (To-try list: pesto pasta, gnocchi, white truffle pizza, and the desserts!) I've only been once, and I really wanted a smoothie after a work out. I opted for the STRAWBERRY SUPERFOOD SHAKE, which had strawberries, goji berries, cashews, and agave. Will definitely be back to try some of the other things on their menu. ENJOY! PS: Entrance to the parking lot is on Alta Loma Road as soon as you make a left onto the street it's on the right. We ordered: Buffalo cauliflower 10/10 Dynamite roll 10/10 Spicy quesadilla 10/10 Nutella pie 1000/10 As always, everything always tastes fresh, dining in is definitely better, imo. The chocolate drizzle on the plate the Nutella dessert comes on is delicious, we kept scooping it up as we demolished it. We were so full before the dessert came but it was so good our stomachs somehow expanded to make room for the delicacy. Unexpected! I'm not vegan, but the food looked delicious. I stayed on the "safe" side and ordered a waffle (delicious, cooked perfectly and served with pure maple syrup and a dollop of coconut whip cream). We sat in the small patio which was a beautiful spot with trellises of plants/vines covering us from the sun, it was lovely. One in our party ordered a pizza (looked amazing), another ordered French toast (OMGEEE it was huge, could have served two) the plate was covered with fruit, my next go-to. Everything is vegan, & the menu on the website indicates gluten free (GF) & soy free (SF). While dining in, you view the menu via a QR code & order with a waiter (all were very friendly!) It's often difficult to find GF/SF/V nachos & caesar salad, & I was excited to finally cure my cravings. The host sold me on the Almond Butter Cheesecake- the chocolate is divine. My partner enjoyed his baked lasagna (the pesto was INCREDIBLE) & mini mac & said the mojito was very refreshing. A recommendation would be providing an allergen menu or listing the ingredients on the menu or website. Though I'm not allergic, there are certain ingredients that I prefer to avoid. We used to love this place . As a person with sever gluten Alergy I always appreciated their menu and having options here. This evening however I was very disappointed with the costumer service. I asked for coke and the waiter said they have it. He came back telling they are out. Then I saw in their menus that they have Cold Brew, when asked if it's set and strong the waiter assured me that it is and offered to add tea in it to make it like a chi late. I said I'd love that. Long story short when he returned with the drink and I tried it, it was horrible. I sure could not drink it. I immediately and very nicely informed the waiter that the cold coffee he brought is impossible to drink. I left it untouched and asked for a hit Mint tea instead. When I got the check. I was very surprise to see that the cold coffee drink was there included in the check. I'd think they would remove it but clearly it was there. It's not about paying 8$ or 10$ more for a drink but just on customer service I was expecting for the very minimum not including that on the check. Not to mention, waiter put absolutely no effort on apologizing for the horrible drink or digesting alternatives. We left just disappointed. Food was great though! Not only their dishes are vegan, and some are gluten free, this is the BEST vegan food I've tried dining out. It pains me to leave this comment for a place that I have frequented for many years, multiple times a week. However, after encountering an issue with my order and attempting to resolve it through calling and speaking with staff, I was advised to send an email for a refund since they were busy. The issue with my order was that the pot pie I usually order for my grandma was extremely sour, and I am not talking sour but eatable, this was impossible to eat without getting a heartburn. Since I have been ordering this same meal for few years now, I knew that something was wrong. Rather than risk , I politely offered to drive and reorder the same item, but was told to email for a refund instead. Unfortunately, my email went unanswered for days, and despite following up, I received no response. As a result, the pot pie went to waste since they did not accept it back and we payed for an order that was not eatable. After years of recommending Sun Cafe to friends and colleagues, and due to this poor customer service experience, I don't think this will be my #1 place to go anymore. read more

I will step in and visit Sun Café often just to see if they try new chefs out or have new things on the menu overall since they redid their restaurant about eight years ago, it's a lovely ambience on the outside, especially around the fire pit. What I will say is that the food seems heavier lately for traditional, vegan cuisine, which is confusing to me, the wines are fair that they offer nothing unique or exquisite about them. The price range for Sun café keeps up with the cost of inflation and it is expensive. My particular service was good up until three or four other tables were sat, and then no one came over for quite a while, and I had to ask somebody for a refill on my glass of water The one thing that irked me the most was that after I paid my bill, I was still finishing my coffee and nobody came over to me at all. I really wish servers would start to realize that they need to still check in with people even after they paid the bill! What if I had wanted to buy something else to take with me? Anyway, I recommend the restaurant for vegan and gluten-free individuals, especially and I'm looking forward to trying it again because I heard that they will be having new Cook start there, so I'm interested in what new meals they will have to offer. AMAZING!!!!! I took my college-age niece on her first visit to LA who is vegan. A vegan friend recommended SunCafe and after going im totally sold! The menu was the largest Vegan menu I've ever seen! With so many options, in various cultural cuisines. The Servers were sweet and attentive letting us dine on the patio. SUCH a vibe Plus they have a nice cocktail menu and a (small) parking lot.
