What he apparently did not notice during this research phase was one fairly major detail: the entire restaurant is vegan. Once he realized it, there was a definite moment of hesitation. I was more in the camp of, "Well, you brought us here. We're committed now." Thankfully, his accidental vegan ramen selection turned out to be a very good one. The space is compact and dimly lit, with dark walls, simple wood tables, and a warm glow throughout. It was packed when we went, which gave the room a lively energy, but it still felt cozy rather than chaotic. Once the bowls arrived, any skepticism disappeared pretty quickly. The broth was much richer and more flavorful than either of us expected, with that creamy, savory quality you want from a comforting bowl of ramen. We both finished ours. I had the No. 9 Truffle Salt Ramen and added fried dumplings to mine. The dumplings gave the bowl a nice crispy contrast, and the truffle flavor came through without overpowering everything else. The funniest part is that neither of us walked in specifically looking for vegan ramen. We just wanted a good bowl of ramen, and that's exactly what we got. Parking is available in the shared plaza lot, but keep in mind those spaces are shared with the neighboring businesses. Street parking is another option if the lot is full. Although some may consider this to be a unique dining experience, and probably intended for our fellow vegetarians and vegans, unfortunately this restaurant is not for me. I am not vegan, nor am I opposed to trying new vegan spots, but this one was doing the most. The menu is so simple, yet so elaborate with the different flavored soups you can choose. I tried the No. 8 red hot miso signature ramen bowl. Signature ramen bowls came with corn, dumpling, arugula, ginger tofu scramble, noodles, and crispy onion. I think warm arugula was not for me, and the tofu scramble was way too much since the broth was already so rich. The signature priced at $23. The broth is very thick, heavy, and overpowering. The broth is so rich and thick that I could not even finish the bowl without getting so tired of it halfway. The flavors were very interesting. There was a smoky hint and smell throughout the restaurant, and I was not the biggest fan of it. Once the bowl of ramen is ready, they put this glass lid on time and wait a certain time until they walk it out. My cousin tried the mac and cheese, and that was delicious. The truffle taste is very present and lingered the entire night - forewarning. Inside the restaurant was unique house music playing loudly and it was dark. It was giving mysterious dining. For presentation and creativity, this place gets a 10/10. I do not think I will be returning. Additional suggestion: having meat alternative options to add to the bowl. Pretty unique concept, I went to this place twice but unfortunately, this wasn't for me. Here is what we ordered: - Yuzu Sesame: flavorful but not my thing. The yuzu doesn't go well in ramen IMO. It tasted like someone had dropped yuzu juice in the bowl on accident. The broth was also very thick - Garlic Miso: very garlicky (which I usually don't mind since I love garlic!), and thick broth. Couldn't finish it. You can get original or signature ramen. The only difference is you pay $5 extra to get signature and it comes with 3 fried dumplings (which were not worth it). My friends and I were looking for a dinner spot on a Sunday night and unfortunately a lot of places closed by 9pm. We came across RedWhite on Yelp and saw that they were open until midnight. The restaurant is small and intimate and has a small parking lot. We were able to find street parking right in front. There were a few people dining when we got there. I really love this place and eat there almost every week for the past year or so once I learned of its existence. It is so hard to find a flavorful, vegan, and gluten free place. Especially one open very late most nights! So many times after a long late work day I had no options for food, having a gluten allergy and being vegan, so now this is where I can go and expect a nearly perfect ramen every time. The no. 10 ramen (that has no broth) is my favorite. The ramen with broth is on the thicker side, and every type is good. They kinda all taste very similar to be honest. But even for people that eat meat, all the flavor is still present in the broth and ingredients. The atmosphere is also very nice and dark, with a decent amount of seats and nice background music playing, no annoying top 40 stuff. Always some nice electronic music that isn't too energetic or too sleepy. Sometimes there can be loud people but that really can't be helped in todays culture unfortunately, especially LA. I do wish they had more caffeine free drink options. Maybe some liquid death sodas, la crouix, or lemonade options would go well with the ramen or rolls! **The only other thing to keep in mind is that they tend to stop serving within a half hour of closing and sometimes they close early, might be best to order ahead or call if you intend on coming by around closing time, I was very disappointed two times because of this. ** Also, there is a shared lot and usually open spots on the street too. A year later, I've returned several times and tried almost everything on their menu. The simplicity of their menu makes it easy to explore all the ramen options and quickly find your favorites. Hands down, my top picks are the Garlic Miso, Red Hot Miso and Truffle Salt (a bit salty, but the flavors are spot on). My vegan son said I had to join him for lunch at RedWhite Boneless Ramen in Studio City because, he continued, they've got the best vegan ramen in town, and, he added, it's so good that even I (not a vegan) would love it... and so I did. The plant based broths (there are a few to choose from) are rich and flavorful, hearty and complex, just like the best, slowly steeped ramen broths you find made the traditional way. I ordered the Red Hot Miso Ramen, which packed a nice punch without being too hot to handle. My son, who likes things milder, opted for the Yuzu Sesame Ramen; that had a creamier texture than mine, and the unmistakable flavor of yuzu really made the dish memorable. My son also ordered a side of Mac & Truffle... this was a somewhat standard vegan mac & cheese BUT the truffle flavor overrode what can often be an unpleasant after-taste of vegan cheese, making it a perfectly enjoyable side dish for anyone. When it comes to atmosphere, this is a simple affair. You order at the counter and pay (cards only, no cash), and they bring your food to you at one of a few tables. My food was ready for me when I arrived and the service was friendly. The restaurant had a lovely fancy atmosphere and was small and quaint. It seems like it would be great for an intimate dinner.
