I've driven by this place on Laurel Canyon so many times but never stopped. After seeing a few videos on Instagram, I finally gave it a try. The food completely exceeded my expectations! Gustavo, the sushi chef, did an amazing job. Every dish was better than the last. The prices are a little high, but worth it. The giant ice-cold beer mug for $14 was a nice bonus. The only reason for 4 stars is that it took almost 10 minutes to get our drinks even though it wasn't busy, and the A/C was down on a 95-degree day. I'll definitely be back for the food! read more

I really appreciate the waitress and the cook for hard working and service. But 0 star goes for the owner or manager not sure (she looks Armenian) for the attitude towards her own workers who tried their best . The price is too expensive for the food quality (more expensive than most real Japanese restaurants - more expensive than most Japanese restaurants on Ventura BLVD IYKYK) fish were not that fresh , giving a drop of wasabi, salty chili oil on top of my sushi-whyyyyyyy????!! , a thick piece of squid sushi. The ramen I had was so full of flavor and I ordered the Veggie with no heat. I would definitely order it again. We had a couple of different items but the big hit was also the dynamite roll with langostinos. Wonderful looking food to make it pleasing to dive in! The place is pretty nice and clean. Today was my first time eating at Lit Sushi. I actually live in the neighborhood and have been wanting to try them for soo long but never had the chance. I'm sorry to say, but it was an extremely poor experience all around. The food was mediocre, but the most annoying part was the service (if you could call it that) and we were the only couple in the restaurant. There was definitely a communication problem, not on our end I can assure you. Don't order the soft shell crab appetizer unless you want to wait 40 minutes for it to arrive cold and oh so so tiny! Then the fee to use our card and the 10% service fee was an insult after our experience. Needless to say,though we are in walking distance,we won't be going back. I can't get past the service fee or non-cash fee....why the fees? We tried this place with no preview of any reviews. The outside is decorated nicely....lots of decor....lots! Inside is also very decorated and busy looking. This is not a Japanese owned business as you would expect of a sushi spot. Definitely not authentic. The people were very kind and attentive. The menu was all over the place. Mozzarella cheese on sushi? Pasta? We decided to stick with basics. Garlic Edamame, Crispy Tuna, Baked Salmon (hold the cheeses). Draft beer was served cold and was DELICIOUS Edamame was not very flavorful Crispy Tuna was decent Baked Salmon was just ok - even with our modifications as we prefer Prices were a bit on the high end for me....but the services charges were $6.50 total. $1.50 for non cash and $5 (10%) for service fee. We absolutely LOVE lit sushi, we started coming here because our favorite sushi placed got new owners and we are so sad but this place is so close to our house and it's open late which we love. Everytime we come here it's like family! The owner is so sweet and always greets us with hugs. We definitely enjoy a long dinner so this place is amazing if you want to have a slow relaxed dinner and chat with friends. They have also really enhanced the place with so many decorations but obviously most importantly the FOOD and sushi is sooooo FRESH and amazing. Even the miso soup and baked dishes are yummy too! PROS: the sushi we ordered was really good! We got the shrimp tempura roll and the tower roll because they were the more affordable rolls that we were interested in. The gyozas were some of the best gyozas we have tried. The sake was the standard sake (cheapest nigori they have $15). They serve it in the little container in my pictures. The inside is super nice and was comfortable where we first chose to sit but then the waitress moved us (because the table we chose was dirty?) to a spot that we couldn't see anything really in the restaurant besides her behind the cash register constantly on her phone. So lost a lot of the ambiance which I always appreciate when dining out. CONS: the taste of the food was the only thing that saved the night. The waitress was pretty rude right off the bat and we almost just left but gave it a chance due to the reviews. The menus were dirty and they did not have any drink menus (said they were coming in the next few days) so we had to go over the list of alcohol and ask for pricing which is not a great experience when trying to order. We asked for two waters and they brought two Evian bottles...without advising us that we would have to pay for them? We did not touch them at all to make sure they would take them back so we didn't have to pay $9-$10 for water.... When speaking to the waitress, she constantly would respond "WHAT??" really loudly even though we were speaking up and no one else was in the restaurant to make noise. It was pretty rude and was making the experience worse. Not sure if she was new but she did not seem to enjoy her job. She was in her phone the entire night when we needed her attention to order and make sure we didn't get charged for the water. At the end of the night we waited a long time just to pay but she continued to be on her phone. Ended up walking up to pay and had to awkwardly check the receipt to verify the charge and tip while she was right there. Honestly, would love to come back just for the sushi but do not want to interact with this waitress again. Sushi chef made some tasty sushi!!!
