    salmon nigiri!!
    Melissa E.

We met a friend for lunch and what a great recommendation and experience! This place was hopping and the service was great! The menu isn't as expansive enough that you get overwhelmed BUT has enough options that there was something for everyone. I opted for one of the pre-created meals and it was so good! They bring out each plate as it is ready and I thought each round would never end! Definitely worth trying and when in the area again, we will be back! Thanks!

A great option for sushi in the area! I recommend the truffle halibut nigiri, crispy rice spicy tuna, and the yuzu ponzu roll. The rolls are big, and this specific roll was 12 pieces, which I believe is the case for all signature rolls. They are known for their rolls and nigiri! I would definitely make a reservation, especially for a Saturday night, as it was busy until I left around 9! The service was a bit slow, but overall a great experience! Next time I would sit at the sushi bar seems like a fun experience to sit at the sushi bar.

Had a wonderful time with my cousins last night at Sushi Tomoki. It was my first time here but they have been here many times and it's one of their favorite spots in the valley. Saturday night, very busy and loud but the ambiance was great. So cheerful and fun. The hostess whose was also our waitress was amazing. Very friendly and helpful and attentive. Everyone was amazing here. Anyways now the rolls. We ordered their special rolls and I loved them all. Fresh, delicious and fun to eat. They cut the rolls into smaller pieces than other places. The sauces were good also. I loved the yuzu ponzu roll. The crispy rice tuna was also one of my favorites. Overall a great place to meet up with friends or have family dinners.

Came here on a weekday evening for dinner with a friend. Parking on Cahuenga is a bit tricky; there's metered street parking as well as metered and free parking on the side streets of Tomoki but you'd have to walk a bit to get to the restaurant. We had no reservation and were able to be seated immediately and service was quick and polite. Dragon roll 4/5, okay so I'll admit my eyebrow raised at the price when seeing this as just a roll on the menu but this actually comes w a lot of rolls so imo it's a good value! I felt like the fish was fresh and melted in my mouth but that there was something missing. This did come with some sort of orange sauce on top that I think would benefit from adding some tanginess such as some spice?? Rainbow roll 3.5/5, my friend got this and said it was just an average rainbow roll, nothing wildly special

There was definitely a sense of welcome when you walk in the door of Sushi Tomoki. It felt like everyone stopped what they were doing to say welcome in unison. There are three omakase options, but we decided to choose our own adventure. Their spicy tuna crispy rice was only two pieces, but they were generously sized. Tasted delicious and fresh, but could have had a hint more spice to them. Maybe a jalapeño slice. We ordered one cut roll (the dragon) and I was stunned to see how large it was. Plenty to share and tasted really fresh. The cucumber added a nice crunch. We ordered a bunch of different two piece sushi options to try as much as we could. The two standouts were the black cod and the wagyu. The unagi was also great, but we agreed that it could use a little more sauce. Definitely recommend making a reservation. And parking was a little challenging. There is a small lot, but on busy nights the street parking was scarce. So make sure to give yourself some extra time. Restaurant itself was small and intimate, but you didn't feel like everyone was on top of you. All of the servers were super nice and attentive!

Location and Parking 1 star (= not good!): On Southeast corner of Cahuenga and Lankershim Blvd, next to the always-packed Baked Potato Jazz Club which has no parking of its own. The adjacent self-parking lot is very limited. This few Sushi Tomoki spots are not monitored or enforced and almost never available, often already snatched by the Baked Potato patrons who will be there for hours. Do not park on the the liquor store side or you will be towed away! Street parking is also extremely limited. And there is no valet parking. On weekend nights, you usually end up finding parking blocks away. I humbly think that their parking situation needs immediate attention to ensure their continued success. Venue 3.5 stars: On the smaller side. Newly remodeled, contemporary and comfortable although recently more cramped than before since they have added tables to accommodate the increasing crowds . No outdoor seating. Mid size (about 10 seats) sushi bar. No outdoor seating. Service 3.5 stars: Servers are friendly, polite and helpful, but recently not as attentive as they were once were, probably too busy due to the growing patronage. Food 5 stars: Great, high quality selections, with creative and tasty preparations. Excellent, top notch high quality nigiri and sashimi. Tasty and unique appetizers. Limited menu of hand-rolls and specialty rolls. You can sit at the bar and enjoy a high quality Omakase experience by Master Chef Tomoki-san or choose a table and either do Omakase or order on your own. Unlike many other Japanese restaurants around here, their approach is a little more towards the traditional and purist side. The ingredients and the overall quality are consistently very high. If you are in the mood for good quality and unique nigiri and sashimi, this is the place. If you're looking for huge sauce-drenched, over the top rolls with cute and funny names, this is not the place but trust me; there are several other restaurants along the same stretch that would fulfill your cravings! Prices are a little expensive but more or less on par with other higher quality Japanese restaurants. Drinks 4 stars: Beer (on tap and in bottles), wine and sake. The Last Word 4 stars: I started going to Sushi Tomoki when they first opened a few years ago. At first parking was a non-issue and service was excellent, as they had just opened and were not that busy. Over time, parking has evolved to be a detriment and service is recently becoming marginalized. Recommended with some reservations as already noted!

Wow what an amazing place this is! And I'm so glad it's close to my work place so I can go more often :) My hubs and kids met and I met there for dinner and we had a blast. We got there before 6 and it was just right on time. It's a good idea to make reservations. They offer the freshest fish that I've had in a while. They don't use imitation anything. Even the crab filled items are real. I added pics but I missed the albacore sashimi pics. We also asked for something special from the chef and they made us an amazing eel roll that I forgot to also take a pic of. They don't carry teriyaki chicken or cream cheese for Philadelphia rolls so be aware if that's your looking for. The hot sake was super fabulous too! And what about the service? Everyone was super friendly, kind and respectful. The place is super clean and on the smaller side but definitely a great date night place. We got mochi and sherbet for our little ones. I would highly recommend the sherbet but didn't get to try the mochi yet. I can't wait to go back for more sushi while I'm at work and do more date nights with the hubs. Thanks all!

Still my favorite sushi spot in the LA area, tucked away in Universal City. The fresh-grated truffle on hamachi remains an absolute standout. I love bringing new friends here to share the experience -- it never disappoints.

Oh my god! I LOVE this place! Everyone is so nice and helpful. The sushi melted in my mouth. Waitresses were awesome and the place is very lively. Everyone welcomes you when you walk in. Parking can be tricky though....we found street parking. I recommend making a reservation ahead of time as the wait times can be up to an hour. But be warned they don't take reservations the day of so plan ahead.

On a Monday night, this place was bumping. That should say something. Also not in the cutest area of Ventura. Says something to their quality as well. Because people are coming for the delicious fish. Like wow. We ordered two orders of spicy tuna crispy rice. The salmon roll was so perfectly soft and tasty with the all the fixings. The scallop with Italian caviar. Oh mama. Everything melted in your mouth. The only thing I would have changed was the thick jalapeños on the yellowtail but the fish was perfect so did not matter. Plus the shishitos were almost all the hot ones so we got our spice from those.

With heavy hitters like Kiwami and Asanebo nearby, we didn't expect much from a sushi spot that took over a former fast-food Mexican joint--but Sushi Tomoki blew us away. The all-Japanese staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, and the vibe is cozy and authentic. We tried all the Yelp hits like the salmon truffle, yuzu roll, otoro, and crab hand roll--every bite was pristine, balanced, and bursting with flavor. The attention to detail here is next level--from ingredient quality to portion sizing, it's all designed to deliver the perfect bite. We're not sushi snobs, but we've had the full spectrum, and Sushi Tomoki earns its place among Studio City's best. A hidden gem that feels anything but.

A new fav HIDDEN GEM!! Easy to make a res, but really not needed on weeknights. Kind, respectful staff - they greet you when you walk in. Food was quick, quality of sushi was amazing - so many flavors yet so simple. The sauce was TO DIE FOR, ginger base sauces and so light and refreshing. They continued to check on us during our dinner. Prices are average, got 6 cut rolls, edamame and crispy rice spicy tuna and cost was $160 pre-tip. Very modern, and nice peaceful ambiance. Parking: meter parking, not hard to find a spot.

Oku-Niku Japanese BBQ did not disappoint and provided both delicious Japanese meals and excellent customer service. Our waiter Sergio was excellent. Thank you Sergio! He kept bringing out replenishment for the different types of meat. We ordered the Premium All You Can Eat for $79.50 per person. It was very much worth the price for what they serve you along with the quality of meats. This Premium All You Can Eat for $79.50 per person included A5 Wagyu. I'm sure you know that A5 Wagyu is the highest grade of Japanese beef. It was tender, rich and buttery. Included in the Premium All You Can Eat for $79.50 per person are to name a few, Scallop, Yellow Tail, Truffle Salmon Roll, Brussel Sprout, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Soft Shell Crab and Beef Tongue. The cuts and the quality of the meat along with the quality of the seafood is 5 stars. Oku-Niko Japanese BBQ is now added to our list of favorite eateries to frequent with family and friends. Will be back here again next weekend and we're so looking forward to it.

AYCE Prices? My Wallet Said Absolutely Not…read more Not gonna lie -- I am not your typical "pay as you go" gal, and sadly my stomach can no longer survive all-you-can-eat the way it used to. Although this spot offers AYCE for $79.50 per person, the seven of us decided to go the smarter route and order à la carte instead. And honestly? We still ordered enough food to probably qualify for AYCE anyway. Totally forgot to snap a picture of the menu because our stomachs were already making decisions before our brains could. We ordered everything from: * sushi rolls * mushrooms appetizer * shishito peppers * seaweed salad * broccoli * soy garlic edamame * dumplings * fried rice bulgogi * chicken karrage * garlic shrimp * beef tongue * chicken breast * and of course the star of the night, the Wagyu ribeye beef which was about $45 a plate for roughly 7-8 slices? Most of the food honestly didn't even make it into photos because the table instantly attacked everything the moment it arrived. I don't know the total bill since it was my birthday dinner, but I'm pretty sure it cost a very pretty penny lol. Overall, we really enjoyed the food and I'd give the experience about an 8/10. The only downside was the service was a bit slow. We had the only reservation at 1 PM, yet it still took a few tries to flag someone down when we needed things, so service overall was just okay. Welcoming ambience with beautiful interior with plenty of tables. I'm assuming reservation would be more recommended on weekends? Still a fun birthday meal with lots of good food and full bellies. Happy eats!

We've been doing that for a few years now, so that should tell you something right there. Our order is fairly consistent: we each start with a mimosa that comes in a highball glass, so one is usually all we need. Next, we share an order of kimchi biscuits (you get two). So delicious! Packed full of kimchi, bacon and cheddar cheese, it's a nice combo of flavors that play well together. The interior is usually soft and warm, with a nice crunchy crust. Top that with a smatter of the cinnamon butter that it comes with...yum! Our choice of entree varies, anything from avocado toast, to their kale and seaweed salad or any of their other selections they have from their brunch/lunch menu. On this outing, my friend and I both opted for the bibimbap. I opted for the pork bulgogi while my friend got the chicken version. It comes with a generous amount of carrots, zucchini, shiitake mushrooms and bean sprouts, and is topped with a runny, sunny side up egg that serves as an excellent sauce when you mix everything together, along with the gochujang sauce. We upgraded and got it with brown rice in the hot stone bowl. Worth it! The regular bibimbap is good, but when you mix in the crunchy crust that comes from the bottom of the stone bowl, you get an additional texture that makes the dish really stand out. The flavors already come together nicely, and the crunchy bits just enhance the experience. For dessert, we like to share the "lemon pie", which is actually a scoop of lemon gelato that comes in a glass that also includes graham crackers, topped with toasted marshmallows. A nice way to end the meal. And the staff! We usually either have Justin or Ann as our server, but everyone there is super friendly and helpful. They are consistently good at checking up on you and making sure you have everything you need. Just another 5 star reason of why we keep coming back!
