First time dining in person and also brought my family along this time. Service was excellent on a busy Saturday night. The employees were so attentive and helpful. All of us got the 6 handroll option and 3-4 A-la-cart because it was so tasty. Some of my family members also got the sake which they stated was very smooth. It was cool to see them adjust the ambiance of the restaurant after the sun set by dimming the lights and adding candles. Perfect place for a family to eat or to go on a date. It won't necessarily break the bank, you can still get quality sushi, and the staff are so efficient the wait really wasn't that long. 5/5 toro hand roll was my favorite. They really used quality tuna for this roll and I ended up ordering a second one 5/5 salmon roll 5/5 the scallop. They used the large scallops chopped up, none of those tiny scallops other restaurants serve for scallop hand rolls. 3.5/5 lobster and crab roll mainly because I didn't like the mayo and I found several pieces of shell in my crab roll which is inevitable and also it's nice to know that it's fresh. They offered $4 valet parking given the small lot. I felt the service I received at this restaurant deserved the automatic 16% service fee. We waited around 20 minutes despite having a party of 5 since we had family visiting. The customer with a party of 4 behind us repeatedly commented on how inconvenient it was for my party to have 5 people. However the staff at Kazu nori were professional and kind. Overall the Kazu nori here was as good as the one I had near UCLA. Would definitely recommend this location to friends and family. read more

KazuNori is hands down one of my favorite places to eat. I go about twice a week whenever I can. Even while pregnant I still occasionally indulge in one of their raw hand rolls because I trust the quality of their fish that much. After talking with the people who run the business and learning about where they source their fish, plus seeing the quality firsthand every time I visit, it's very clear they take their ingredients seriously. Yes, sometimes there's a line, but don't let that discourage you. They run the place incredibly efficiently. The staff does an amazing job of moving people in and out quickly while still making the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable, not rushed at all. Everyone working there is locked in and focused but also very friendly and helpful. You can tell the whole team cares about what they're doing. I highly recommend the 5 roll special. It's a great value and a perfect way to experience a variety of their hand rolls. They're also very accommodating and will let you swap out one of the rolls if you prefer something else, which I really appreciate. The ambiance is also great. During the day you can't really see it as much from photos, but at night it's a whole vibe. I also love how everyone sits together at the bar. It brings a sense of community that you don't get at most restaurants. If you're looking for more of a traditional table setting, you can always go to their sister restaurant Sugarfish. You can get a lot of the same items there plus even more options. We came in on a Monday night and it was surprisingly busy! There was luckily a free parking spot in the tiny lot in front if not we probably would've valeted because it was packed. We were sat immediately at the bar which was great and had a very social feel. The suggested we order one of the sets and most were pretty good! We got the 16-piece Lobster Set--Toro, Cucumber, Crab, and Lobster--plus a Split Cut Roll with Yellowtail. Everything was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. What really struck me was the bento-style presentation. With a Japanese mother, Japanese food and its sense of order, beauty, and intention were woven into my upbringing, so presentation has always held equal weight to flavor. I'd been hearing so much hype about this spot for years, so I had to check it out--and now I get it! I stopped in for lunch and was impressed by their super fresh handrolls at a very affordable price. I tried the Nozie (Omakase), which is basically chef's choice (6 rolls for $30). The staff mentioned it's usually consistent but can vary depending on which special fish the chef is excited about that day. I enjoyed every roll I tried with the lobster being my favorite. There was a bit of a hiccup during my visit--the system glitched, and after receiving our first roll, we sat for about 20 minutes before they came by to ask if we wanted the check. When we explained that we had only received one roll, the manager immediately apologized and made it right by offering us each a complimentary sashimi plate. The sashimi was fantastic: Salmon: My favorite! It came with a soy sauce that's richer and tastier than the standard sauce at the bar. Yellowtail: Also delicious, with a sweeter sauce. Pro tip: Order the salmon sashimi first, then save the sauce to dip your handrolls in--it's next level. Parking: Be prepared--parking is really tight, so plan ahead. Seating: The interior only has about 25 bar stools, so it's definitely not ideal for large groups. Overall, I'd definitely come back for lunch. To be honest, I was pretty disappointed with KazuNori. After all the hype and years of hearing about it, finally trying it fell really short. Nothing about the experience felt particularly authentic, the seaweed was mediocre, the fish was just okay, and most of the hand rolls ranged from disappointing to decent at best. There wasn't a single roll that really stood out or wowed us. We actually left saying we wouldn't come back, which is rare for us. Honestly, one of the least impressive hand roll spots we've tried. The one highlight was the service, the staff were attentive and friendly throughout. * i don't recommend ordering the albacore sashimi, the sesame sauce is great, but absolutely does not go with the sashimi. read more

My first time at KazuNori, I'm so glad I was finally able to cross it off of my list! Came here on a Friday evening, thank goodness I got here a little early (around 5:45p) and was seated right away, because it started to get really crowded with lines out the door by 6:30p). Get here early if you can! I may be small but I can eat! I ordered one 6 handroll set, and then another Nozawa's 6-hand roll set, which is more like a "omakase" handroll. They wouldn't tell me what the Nozawa set entailed, but let's just say that the next time I come back, I'll just stick to my 6 handroll set. The Nozawa set included the toro and lobster hand rolls, and also had sea beam, a Japanese potato (which I did not enjoy) and another one which I did not enjoy the texture. So, if you're feeling adventurous on your palate, then I'd say go for it. The rolls also come out one-by-one, so you have to be patient for your next one to come out. I can imagine this can get frustrating, especially when you're hungry and it's a busy night! The restaurant is small and intimate, with bar seating only. Service is friendly and attentive. I've been to all three Kazunori locations and would say that Wilshire in Ktown is my favorite as it feels a bit less cramped than Studio City. However the food is the same! read more

First off with KazuNori you know you're getting high quality, fresh and tasty food. What makes it even better is the friendly and warm staff that run it. The manager and the rest of the staff were very friendly and accommodating, even with the business of the restaurant they're still very efficient, clean and friendly. A lovely little spot for hand rolls. I love every single bit of their handrolls. It's made in front of you with fresh rice, seaweed and the type of fish you ordered. I usually get full around 6-7 rolls. A little on the pricey side but the ingredients are so fresh it doesnt taste as fishy. Just one thing is that - the stools are so uncomfortable to sit on. KazuNori is the 1st and the standard IMO when it comes to hand roll bars. Simple, straightforward menu but with high quality ingredients. It's a winning formula. We have frequented the Studio City location a few times and it has been a good experience each time. I usually get the 5-hand roll see ($24) and add an extra crab hand roll ($6) but this time around I got the 6-hand roll set ($28). This option gives you individual hand rolls of toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab & lobster. All the handrolls are great but my favorites are the crab & toro. The blue crab hand roll is creamy & delicious. As per usual, the warm rice with a hint of rice wine vinegar & the crispy nori are just the perfect compliment. I usually just get still water ($3) but this time I also got a Mexican Sprite ($4). Ozeki one cup sake is $6. Service has always been friendly. The wait was nonexistent on a late Friday afternoon so that was great. Minimal design, dark walls, with the U-shaped sushi bar seating the highlight of the space. Restrooms with unscented (pre-meal) & scented (post-meal) soap dispensers I've found to be a nice touch. Parking in their shared lot for a fee. We found parking on the street. This place is a vibe... trust me!! I'd say it's an upscale fast food counter service set up. My son and his friends are regulars here. We got hand rolls with sashimi of choice. 7rolls was $45. It's non tipping but states up front they have a 16% service fee added. Sounds like they're often out of the albacore. Service was chill. Quality food. Parking is like most places on Ventura. I love the location in DTLA, but this one disappointed me. For starters they have green tea on the menu but when I asked, he looked at me like I was ordering a coffee drink, saying they only had matcha tea. That's fine, but don't make me feel like I'm crazy for asking to order something off the menu... then the food came. We ordered salmon sashimi which was full of small tiny salmon pieces in just liquid.. the sauce had no taste to it. The one in DTLA comes with a delicious sauce you can drink! The place definitely gets busy, so I always recommend coming early. It's easier with a smaller party as well. Be warned though, the parking lot in front is super tiny and there's limited parking around the area. As for their handrolls, I liked the toro, yellowtail, and albacore. The salmon was just okay (a little bland), crab was a bit fishy to me, and I was not a fan of the sea bream but my bf said it wasn't bad. I'd say that the handrolls here are very simple compared to other places that marinate the fish and add texture like fried garlic inside. Service was quick even though they only had 1-2 people making handrolls for everyone. I wish the menu had more variety but like I said it gets the job done. I was a little bit skeptical to order sushi in this area where for to-go. But that night I was really craving for fresh sushi and was recommended to order from this place. I placed an order online on their official website and not from Uber Eats or any other services . There's a separate entrance for DoorDash and Uber eats. I made a mistake and the worker told me to go back to the restaurant entrance. Anyways, I ordered the regular 16 piece and a 16 piece with lobster. The packaging is so pretty and high-quality. I almost didn't wanna eat it. Check out my picture. I love every single of the pieces. They are really fresh and sushi rice is just perfect. To be clear, this is a 3.5 note. I never feel as happy when I'm here vs Marina or Downtown. I know the nice manager who runs this place is pretty nice and tries his best but the quality of the toro and seabream is a little lackluster. The handroll staffers are also a little odd, sorry to say. You can barely hear them announcing the rolls... and I play my tv at like vol6 at home . They also sometimes give the sashimi cuts to the wrong person which - I'm never a fan of being the second person to receive something someone already breathe on when eating raw fish. And lastly, when did you stop handing out wet wipes? It's starting to slip away from my top 10 easy sushi go to's and it would be a shame because I think this was a gateway sushi for lots of people and it should continue to be that place. This used to be my favorite go-to hand roll bar. Sadly, the quality has gone down. It just doesn't taste the same as it used to, not sure if it's because of the seaweed or there's just a different fish to rice ratio, but unfortunately it isn't what it used to be. And better ones have popped up over the recent years. Parking lot is on the tighter side but there is also parking in the neighborhood. Service is about the same and the ambience hasn't changed. The 3 of us ordered the 6 roll set and one person in my party substituted the crab and lobster hand rolls for other rolls so they're open to adjustments in the sets! Always love the hand rolls & today was quite disappointed when the hand roll kit we have been ordering for the last few years, wasn't appearing on the take out menu. It's in the website, but the online menu "reorder" said it's no longer available. We tried to call to ask, but are unable to get a live person! We always pick this up enroute to our home in Bakersfield and the drive is out of our way... worth it if we get Some delicious hand roll kits but not worth it to drive there and be told they are not currently or no longer offering the kits- disappointed A live person to answer the phone could go a long way but in dining is always 5 star read more
