I arrived ahead of everyone to secure a table, and even on a weekday the wait is 30 minutes - I guess no matter what day and time you come, there is always a wait. Since it was my first time here, my daughter took the lead and ordered the Trust Me for me. And trust me, it lives up to the name. The fish was fresh, flavors were very good, and I was so full I even handed off my last roll to my daughter. The only downside - inside is loud, you can't have a nice conversation, and I just wish the tables were spaced out more for comfort. So selfish of me to wish huh. It was a good dinner experience. I really have resisted writing this because I absolutely love Nozawa and have had many many great meals at SugarFish but yesterday wasn't the first time we were disappointed but it was the worst. It's been hit and miss with the take out for the past year, sometimes 5***** sometimes waste of the $$$$$. But last night we couldn't even finish our sushi!!! This has never happened. The sashimi looked like it was the remnants of the sushi and rolls and had scales in it! YUCK!The cut rolls were tasteless and almost had a fishy smell, not a good thing. The actual sushi pieces were put together sloppily and just didn't taste 'right'. We kind of started feeling a little sick, all three of us, before even saying anything to each other and then all stopped eating since we all had the same experience. I know Nozawa would never put up with this mediocrity and I don't know if I will ever do take out again from SugarFish. I may try in restaurant dining but this was not the first time we were disappointed but for the money, I'm not chancing another. read more

First time coming to the studio city location as we typically go to the one in Pasadena. Came for lunch at 11:30am when they opened and were seated immediately. Same clean and modern interior and their staff were very friendly as well. We each ordered the lunch Trust Me set, which came with their edamame, tuna ponzu sashimi, 6 nigiris, toro handroll, and finished with a blue crab handroll. We were happy and satisfied as everything we got tasted fresh with the same great quality as their other locations. The staff came by often to refill our waters and take our finished plates away. We asked for extra ginger and wasabi, which they brought for us quickly. There is free 90 min parking in the lot, which is super convenient. We would come back to this location again! read more

The servers are all so friendly and sweet I kinda wanna hang out with them. The restaurant is in that cool nook of sportsman's lodge and there's an awesome vegan ice cream place next door. First timers at SUGARFISH. I have heard many great things about the food at SUGARFISH in general, not just this location, but I have to honestly say I feel like this place is overhyped. The food is good quality and the fish is fresh, but the taste and the flavors overall aren't anything that really stood out and didn't seem to make sense price point wise. I feel that without the (very) dim, intimate lighting and feel, the food was not that memorable, especially not what you pay for. Customer service was okay. We felt like we were just people occupying a seat when we had to wait so long for it, and felt like now they were just waiting for us to leave. God, the lighting in here is beautiful. It has that soft, intimate orange glow that makes this cozy space even cozier. Came here with a friend and I like how the meal is served one course at a time. It gives you time to savor your meal. The high quality of the fish is something you can actually taste. While pricey, this is a lovely special treat. The bathroom features two kinds of soap, one for before you eat your fish (unscented) and one for after (scented). That along with the bathrooms being all genders makes for a thoughtful lavatory experience. Trans and NB friends, you're welcome here. The place is very intimate and has low lighting. Perfect place to relax and have a date or a peaceful and filling meal. I suggest coming during a weekday to avoid the extended wait times, or offering to lend yourself at the bar if you want a quick in and out experience. I love love LOVE the toro tasting. Its so worth the premium. It's very fatty and perfectly portioned. I also love that the chefs dress the items for you if its needed. It's NOT the sloppy AYCE kind of spot that has spicy mayo and eel sauce on everything so try your meal before drowning it in sauce. Love coming here and it's such a vibe. read more

The quality and freshness of the fish is on point. Pretty much everyone gets some version of the pre fixe menu here. The sushi is served with warm rice - perfection. Salmon sushi is standard faire at any sushi establishment - but the toasted sesame seeds, perfect cut, and warm rice make theirs a standout. The tuna sashimi is the true star to me. I could eat five servings all by myself. This location is inside the Sportsmen's Lodge shopping center, which is overly trendy and crowded. (There's an Erewhon here, need I say more). Parking is free for 90 minutes, but with no reservations accepted, sometimes you end up being there for longer than that, so be prepared for that. read more

I came here last night on a whim to hit the night out in town since I had a friend and her teenage son visiting from out of town. Since this Sugarfish is located in the heart of the Sportsman's Lodge Plaza filled with other fun eats, shops, Erewon, and even an Equinox gym on the property I knew it would be the tickled fancy affair that with give the fun, bustling vibe that would excite my friend from our I'd town. I put our names down but not to a surprise they said it'd be a 45 minute wait. So in the meanwhile we checked out the Erewon market that has all the organic flair you hope to see. Then walking around to see the shops around. Then we sat at one of the outdoor patio tables to kill time. I was surprised that the wait was shorter than they stated for a party of 5. When we got seated we instantly all knew what we wanted, which was their notoriously famous omakases. This means the chef chooses what to make for you. The decision was simple. I chose the Trust Me dinner. My sister went up a notch and got the Nozawa dinner. My friend went up another double notch and got the Don't Trust Me dinner. It's amazing how every sushi piece just melts in your mouth. My favorite were the salmon sushi and the baked crab handroll. Everyone left super satiated and wanting to go back already. Wow !!!!! Soooo loud in here. It's a very small space so it seems like everyone is squished together and is yelling and talking so loud. Really unpleasant. But we made through our lunch without losing our minds lol It was my first time here and luckily our waiter was very friendly and helpful. He explained their menu and made it easy for me to choose. We both chose the Trust Me option and were still hungry after eating it all. So I ended up ordering extra hand rolls. If you love rolls this is not the place for you. They only have sashimi , sushi, very simple hand roll and cut roll. Fish and rice. Now I know this is Nozawa-style sushi and it's not what I like. I really enjoy specialty rolls at sushi spots. Don't get me wrong I love sashimi and sushi too and always order a variety. Now the food part, the sushi was very fresh and good quality. The sashimi in ponzu and chives was excellent. I decided to finally try Sugarfish in Studio City after hearing all the rave reviews, but I was pretty disappointed. First, the good: the fish quality was amazing--super fresh with no fishiness--and I really liked how the box was packaged, with a guide explaining how to eat it. The ponzu and wasabi were solid, spicy with a great umami kick. My favorites were the salmon pieces and the yellowtail. That said, the rice was hit or miss--it kept falling apart when I picked it up, which messed with the whole bite. I wasn't a fan of the sashimi bits either; they felt like minced leftovers that didn't belong anywhere else. And the pricing? $9 for minced pieces of sashimi is crazy. Overall, I spent about $50 on a box that just didn't feel worth it. Parking was a pain--super crowded with tons of people around--and while the staff were friendly, it's not enough to bring me back unless I'm absolutely craving expensive sushi. Even then, I feel there are better options, especially given how underwhelmed I was here and at KazuNori, the hand roll spot from the same restaurant group. read more

I was really let down by my experience here. I walked in and got a spot at the bar for lunch. I went with: Trust Me $32.00 Edamame Tuna and Chutoro Sashimi - ponzu and chives Albacore Sushi - ponzu and chives, 2-pc Salmon Sushi - toasted sesame, 2-pc Toro Hand Roll Japanese Yellowtail* Sushi - lemon, 1-pc Hirame* Sushi - yuzu ponzu, 1-pc Blue & Dungeness Crab Hand Roll OK, so I'm allergic to ginger, which can be an issue with sushi. I asked before ordering if this would be a problem, and was told no worries. Unfortunately, I'm guessing the ponzu has ginger in it - and this place is just pushing out foods with sauces made elsewhere, so there was no actual modification - just food with no sauce. So the sashimi had no sauce, the albacore was plain as was the hirame. It was SO disappointing! I wish they would've told me - I would've ordered a la carte instead. Service was fast at least? My son and I decided to go to a different sushi place aside from our go-to Japanese restaurant in our neighborhood. We did not have any reservations at Sugarfish, but we got seated right away. Mind you, this was around 4:00 in the afternoon, so it was before the dinner rush. I ordered Sugarfish's Trust Me plate, and my son ordered the Nozawa Trust Me plate. Sugarfish's sushi was very simply-flavored and, for the most part, tasty. However, both my son and I weren't keen on the sushi rice NOT being shaped firmer or more solidly, so we didn't particularly like that aspect. On Sugarfish's website, I vaguely remember reading that their sushi rice is prepared this way on purpose, but I personally didn't care for it. Apparently, the rice should "melt/meld in your mouth" but upon eating the pieces, I was left with constantly "fishing" out the rice from my soy sauce ramekin. . . not exactly a neat way of eating sushi as it would obviously fall apart upon dipping, whether upside-down or right-side up. The wait staff was fairly attentive. At the end of our meal, we waited 20+ minutes to get the check, yet we were clearly done with our meal. Maybe they were understaffed that day, I don't know. . . The ambiance was somewhat loud, but overall tolerable. My rating: 8/10 read more

I went here today for lunch as I was off for Columbus Day. I hadn't been to Sugar Fish in a while so was really looking forward to my lunch with my mom and sister. This review is solely based off of my dining experience and nothing to do with the food. The food and service were good, however about 15 minutes into us being there they sat down an older woman who seemed to be a regular as everyone knew her by name. The woman proceeds to take a cup out and starts spitting in it every two minutes. It was so gross and both my sister, mom and I were getting sick just listening to it. It was hard to get through the rest of our lunch honestly. I even saw who might have been the manager come and take her cup and seemed to have rinsed it out for her so she could continue spitting. I'm sorry but this type of behavior is not acceptable in a restaurant and the fact that the staff were allowing that was beyond me. It's unfair to every other diner there who was sitting close to her to have to hear and whiteness that while trying to enjoy a meal. And, it seems to me that, that can pose as a health violation as there is open saliva exposed to everyone's else's food. I will not be returning to this location if they're going to allow this unsanitary behavior from patrons. read more

It's not like I asked for something they sell on the menu, this is a dipping sauce, it's like soy sauce. And I was told "no they don't give out extra ponzu"?! Like what? It's not like I said "hey can you throw in extra sushi for free". I wanted one little plastic container of ponzu sauce. It's gotten out of control at Sugarfish. The sushi delicious, we did the Nozawa trust me. Every piece was so good, my favorite was the scallop nigiri. Our server was very attentive and fast. The space was pretty dark but not horrible. My only complaint is the called us for the table and we had to wait another 20 minutes because the previous party was still there. read more

We came here with friends who live down by the ocean but were in the Valley shopping and called to see if we wanted to go to lunch with them. We decided to come here as neither couple had been here before. I'll start by saying Destiny was an excellent server, good personality, explained things on the menu when asked and came back a few times to see if we enjoyed our meal. The food was excellent. My wife and I shared a Nozawas lunch, one hand toro and one hand crab and all were delish. Our friends got the Trust Me menu plus a couple rolls. This is one of those restaurants that is a "no tipping establishment" but charges a 16% fee on the meal. 90 minute free parking in the parking lot, which is full as it's in the old Sportsmen's Lodge parking lot, and there are lots of shops and more in this center. read more

The albacore sushi melts in your mouth and the tuna sashimi is my absolute favorite! The salmon sushi with sesame seeds is a top contender as well. Provender: this is a fantastic place to get your sushi roll fix on. I think sushi nowaza particularly makes rolls well. A great meal they offer here is the sushi box, which comes with both nigiri and rolls. Prices: reasonable for sushi prices. Parking: (I ordered delivery, so I'm not sure.) People: fun for all. Omakase with Sugarfish is always great. I love that they have been advocates of implementing tips into their omakase prices. All of their servers are kind and attentive. The quality of the fish has always been amazing. The amount of food for the "Nozawa Trust Me" is the perfect amount to feel full afterwards. The location of Sugarfish in Studio City is a great location as well. There's a bathroom in the restaurant and one outside as well as part of the shopping plaza. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the 16% surcharge meant for taxes. The 16% fee drives up the bill. read more

5/5 2/5($$) parking lot trust me - if you know me, you know that I LOVE @sugarfishbynozawa . it was actually introduced to me by my friend @abigailtseng, who put me on a couple years ago, and i have been obsessed ever since. they don't take reservations and so it's best to go during lunch hour, unless you're willing to wait 30-60 mins for a table, longer on the weekends. it's a pretty good deal considering the amount of food you get. it may not seem like a lot from the pictures, but trust me (hehehe) you get FULL! the fish is consistent and always taste the same each time I've gone. the only thing is that it gets loud inside since their locations are small, and so the tables are pretty close as well. I wouldn't recommend going on a first date here unless you want the tables next to you listening to your awkward chats but other than that, I WOULD 100% RECOMMEND! my go to sushi spot read more
