We went to Miya on our way from the Burbank airport. It was a Friday night around 6:30pm. Positives - parking in the lot and no wait! Servers were pretty attentive and very kind. They seemed like they had a lot of options. Got busier once we were there. Miso soup was very tasty and my daughter scarfed down her tuna, avocado, cucumber roll. The fish seemed fresh. They also give you an interesting, complementary bowl of sesame bean sprouts. Negatives - place needs updating - the ambience leaves something to be desired. They need a new menu, they have 3 different pieces of paper that they give you but none of them really encapsulate all of your options, which is odd. The "daily menu" included items that they didn't have. The spicy tuna roll was mediocre, nothing special. The garlic edamame were tasty but also very messy - I ended up ordering a separate bowl of regular edamame for my daughter. I would not order the tuna on the crispy rice again, the rice cake was very hard. Overall, it was a decent place for a regular night and if you don't want to wait. If you have time and want something with a big more swagger, I'd opt for somewhere else. read more

First I'll say the reception of when I came in for take out was exceptional. Wonderful service and they asked if I was hungry and brought me something while I waited. Surprise! Surprise! The new MIYA is NOT the old Miya!! I didnt know they had knew owners - I should have looked at Yelp! Went on a Thursday night - place was empty when I got there at 5:45. Ordered Edamame. I had to wipe each HEAVILY salted bean with my napkin to make it edible. I ordered a spicy albacore roll - it was quite small and the fish was not fresh and tasted really fishy. I ordered a broiled salmon collar which was REALLY small, took forever to make and came to the table quite overcooked. pretty pricey for the portions they serve. Since I was sitting at the bar I could see the chef preparing all the food and I will say the slices of fish for the sushi was not very generous. When I told the sushi chef I had been coming there for over 25 years, he said I had memories from the place. It was very sweet they way he said it and it made me smile. Good place to get a casual and non - complicated meal. They have an easy menu. Affordable food too. Customer service is up to par. I even kid the server - one man band and he agreed with me. He is doing what 3 people can. The place is small and it was busy. But we were able to be seated right away. My daughter and I both ordered the #6 - Chicken Katsu with California Roll. They need to change the name of the restaurant, because this is not the type of service or food that Miya Sushi offered in all the years I was there. Tried a new place for lunch near my workplace. Miya sushi was well reviewed and close-by so I ordered the Nigiri Sushi lunch special with Spicy Tuna roll. Pretty basic. It comes with Miso soup as well. The service was friendly and my order was ready in a few minutes. I took it back and dug in. The soup was ok. Basically, unremarkable but fine. I absolutely love Miso soup and this was a Miso soup I think I'd prefer to just be friends with. My sushi was fairly tasty and good. Not great but good. I think 26 dollars was just a little bit much however as with tax this lunch was nearly 30 bucks. Maybe I'll try Miya Sushi again sometime and get some ala carte sushi items. read more

Even though I ordered to-go, I felt compelled to tip since they were so nice to me while I was waiting for my food. Location: The restaurant is in a plaza, so there's plenty of parking outside. My bank contacted me that someone had just tried my credit card number at this for a purchase at this restaurant. I contacted the bank and got the transaction blocked. I called the restaurant to let them know that someone had just tried to use my credit card number through their restaurant. The manager was 100% jerk. Rude and unhelpful. I was trying to let him know someone was committing fraud. He proceeds to accuse me of playing some kind of game because this was the 3rd call he has had this week for the same issue. I lost it. I was trying to do the right thing, and this manager was a complete jerk. If this is how management acts to people trying to be helpful, I can't imagine their in restaurant service will be any better. read more

This is the classic, good quality, excellent service sushi place you all have to try. The fish was great quality, I got the sashimi combo, so there was no where to hide in terms of fish quality, and you can tell they get great fish. Their attitude. The host greeted me at the door as I was entering in my wheelchair. I told him there were 7 in my party and he proceeded to block the entrance and tell me they don't seat more than 6 at a time. I asked him if he likes money? He repeated that they don't seat more than 6 at a time. The place was empty so I said "well, it's money in your pocket so you should be happy to have 7 people that want to eat here" and he begrudgingly let us in. The food was very good and I believe our waiter was the owner and he took very good care of us from then on. I won't even consider returning if we have more than 6 in the future. With so many sushi joints in LA, and especially in the SFV - I decided to give some new places a try. I had high hopes for lunch here based on overall Yelp reviews, but unfortunately left disappointed. First impression: they are doing a good lunch business which is a good sign. Decor a little tacky with caution tape across the carpet as you step up to the sushi bar. Overall, it feels a little tired. Service: hostess is friendly, sushi chef is a little aloof. We try to engage him a little bit as we are ordering and he borders on surly. Not sure what's up - he is not busy, but definitely not friendly either. As the meal progresses, he warms up a little, but we're working way to hard. Food: is okay. Some better than others. The sushi is pretty good. Generous portions and fresh. The tempura shrimp roll is just okay. A little heavy on the batter. The CA hand roll in soy paper is HUGE. I think these hand rolls might be their specialty. It was good, but way too heavy - we couldn't finish it. Like a regular hand roll but "super sized!" Prices: appetizers are pricey - $5 for edamame, $7 for shishito peppers, and they go up from there. Sushi prices are $6 -8 each. They also have an extensive written menu with lunch and dinner combos and entrees which we didn't realize until the end of the meal. Would have been nice if someone offered us this menu when we sat down. Overall, just not enough reasons to go back, the biggest drawback being the service during the meal. All other things equal, surly service just has no place. There are too many places to go and try, hopefully happier to have your business. read more

I'm surprised with Miya Sushi such a high rating on Yelp, our experience was just average, unfortunately. We stopped there for a quick lunch, maybe they have a different menu for dinner or different crew, but we were not impressed. I got lunch combo plate with Beef Teriyaki and California Roll. The beef was hard, like over well done, and lots of teriyaki sauce couldn't save it. California Roll - just exactly what you expect, nothing remarkable. Iceberg lettuce salad - haven't even tried it, sometimes it's better to be hungry than eat iceberg lettuce, in my opinion. My wife's Rainbow Roll didn't impress her much as well. I trust Yelp a lot and 4.5* rating can't be accidental, but we saw what we saw. Service is 5* btw, the lady was super nice. read more
