Got Koku sushi delivery tonight via Uber Eats after finding them on TikTok. Wow! This is probably my new favorite sushi spot in The Valley! We got the spicy tuna crispy rice, salmon box, tuna box, citrus silk roll, and the Shinjuku night roll. The crispy rice was still crunchy by the time we sat down to eat it! It was both of our faves. The salmon and tuna boxes both were very generous portions, and the fish tasted extremely fresh. We also loved the lemon on the citrus silk roll, and how all the flavors of the tuna, cream cheese, jalapeño, and onion all blended together well for the shinjuku roll. If I had to give any negative feedback, is that I wish they had packed more wasabi for us (we only got 3 small portions). Overall, can't wait to try more things from Koku! Everything was so incredible!

Overall Koku is an absolutely SOLID new sushi spot with an incredible staff! I stopped by right at the beginning of lunch and placed a to-go order which was ready in about 10 minutes. I ordered the giant salmon and regular tuna box which had a special and the prices are definitely on point. The salmon was HUGE. Even with this size the nigiri is still tender, buttery, fresh, and delicious. The tuna was well cut, tender, and had that classic tuna taste and scent you love when the tuna is prepared fresh and right. The ONLY thing holding me back from a 5 star review is the rice. It was a bit dry where each nigiri was almost falling apart if i didn't pick it up or hold it together myself, and flavor wise it was a bit bland. I will definitely return and give them more tries and I don't think this will completely dissuade me from visiting so I'm hoping that it was just an off day since they were still new at the time of my visit :)

Ran it back again! They were running a toro $25 box special for dine in and takeout, so of course had to try. Tried 2 new roles this time - Koku and mango. Both were really good! A little heavy on the onion for me, but still had great flavor.

Koku sushi is an incredible culinary experience, whether we are dining in or ordering takeout. The owners are very welcoming and warm and they really pay attention to the little details such as the soy sauce saucers, their plates and even their take out containers when ordering to go! Their sushi chef Julio is friendly and makes the best sushi in the valley. The toro sushi melted in your mouth- incredible give me 14 of them! Make sure to follow them on social media for updates and great videos of their amazing food. This is our new go to sushi spot- a must visit in the San Fernando Valley!

I went to Koku during their soft opening week for a solo lunch. I'm very local to the area, and I frequented Toshi's when it was here. I was sad to see the location change hands, but after my lunch, I have very high hopes for Koku. To start, if you were ever a fan of Super Ninja on Sherman Way, you'll recognize the sushi chef at Koku as the former chef at Super Ninja, which further adds to the awesome lore of sushi in North Hollywood/Valley Village. The interior of this unassuming restaurant is very modern and minimalist. The focus is on the food and the experience. While the decor is sparse, it offers a quiet, almost meditative experience with the meal. I ordered a selection of nigiri, tuna, yellowtail, and unagi, plus the spicy tuna crispy rice and a Ginza Fire Roll. The most notable feature of the nigiri is the generous portion size. The yellowtail was mild in flavor, with a fresh texture. The tuna was meaty and robust in portion size, but mild and cooling in flavor. The unagi was delightful and cooked to an utter perfection that many sushi places seem to struggle with. The flavors here are all subtle, with few heavy or thick sauces. I can see finding myself here for a quick lunch of nigiri any day of the week. The price point on much of the nigiri does lean slightly high, but it is largely offset by the size of the cuts. The spicy tuna crispy rice was delightfully light, with fresh, crispy rice, another component that is sometimes rushed at other restaurants. It's clear that much care is taken to ensure consistency, not only in flavor but in shape and presentation as well. I wouldn't be upset if the spicy tuna were 10% spicier, but as it is, it's a star on the menu. The Ginza Fire Roll was hearty and, if I haven't said it enough, quite generous in portion size. The flavors were fresh and clean, with satisfying textures both inside and outside the roll. Overall, it's hard to be sad about Toshi being gone when in its place is Koku. It almost feels like they are taking special care to honor the legacy of the past while looking ahead toward a very bright future. The food is wonderful, the staff is attentive and warm, and the decor is sparse but well thought out. I'm very happy to have such a quality local sushi restaurant tucked away in a very unassuming location.

I got the Seared Salmon sushi box, and it was fire. Honestly lived up to all the hype . The fish was fresh, flavor was on point, every bite was smackin'. Definitely recommend to go try it out.

I've been following Koku Sushi on social media and have been wanting to go since they opened! I saw their salmon box promotion and was sold. I went during lunch and got, tuna crispy rice, Eel avocado roll, salmon nigiri box, California roll and yellowtail sashimi. Everything was great! They were pretty slammed with online orders but made sure we were taken care of. I'm super picky with my sushi and they definitely passed the test. Can't wait to go back!

Is chef Toshi affiliated with Koku?

Hi there, we had plans to work with Toshi, but unfortunately he has relocated to Bakersfield and the commute was too far. We have a new team that is very excited to be serving great sushi!

Chiba absolutely remains a 5/5 for my family and I! We once again came by without a reservation,…read morethis time on a Friday night. We totally thought we'd have to wait but were able to be seated immediately. We also learned this time that while the parking lot remains ultra packed, there is a large outdoor parking lot the side street over for the businesses there that are closed at night (minus the gym) so I think its fine to park there. Spicy Tuna Okoge 5/5, we came for this and this is what I titled "Crunchy rice spicy tuna appetizer" in my last review, pasted here: very fun, comes cut into 4 pieces, definitely a fun appetizer, our waitress recommended this and said it's one of their more popular items Spicy Salmon cut roll 5/5, mildly spicy but leaves you with a stronger spicy aftertaste, soft and very fresh! We would reorder this! Scallop cut roll 3.5/5, fresh but just felt like it was missing something. I think the scallops need more than just a rice wrap. This was improved with soy sauce I think in the future we'd stick to ordering scallops in a more special roll

I honestly can't say enough amazing things about Chiba - it's been one of my favorite restaurant…read morespots since 2008 when I was first introduced to it through a close friend whose dad used to go to the OG location back in the day. To this day, whenever he's in town, I'm there with them, sitting at the bar. The food here is made with love and every item on the menu feels incredibly authentic and flavorful. From sashimi to rolls to the hot dishes, it's all an experience. One of our favorites is the Salmon Toro with Black Caviar- rich, buttery salmon topped with caviar that just elevates the bite. We also love the snapper, uni, oyster uni shooters, soft shell crab hand rolls, and the spicy tuna on crispy rice- honestly, every menu item we've tried has been incredible. And the sweet shrimp (amaebi) is a must. They serve it beautifully fresh and then tempura-batter the shrimp heads so you get that crispy, savory crunch after the delicate sweetness of the shrimp. It's one of those details that makes Chiba so special. Chiba doesn't just serve food, it serves memories. It's fresh, soulful, and just downright delicious. If you love real, honest Japanese flavor, this place should absolutely be on your list.
