AYCE - PREMIUM SUSHI This location does not disappoint at all when they say PREMIUM sushi. Instead of a 6-pack, I wish I had 6 chambers in my stomach just to try all the items on their menu. The place was loud with conversations about love, dating dos and don't, quality and presentation of food, drama in the office or home, and whether or not to other a 3rd line of premium sushi or not. There were a few times we had to remind our server about our 1st round but it was still pretty good. One thing I'll add is IF you have MORE THAN a party of 4 --- I'd ask for a longer table instead of adding a seat at the end of the booth. They offer all you can eat options, but we decided to order individually. My child got a bento box, and wow the portions are huge! We ordered the Crunch Roll and the Baked Salmon Roll, and let me tell you, that Baked Salmon Roll might be one of my favorite sushi rolls ever. Absolutely delicious. The teriyaki chicken had good flavor, but it was a little on the dry side. Our total for two rolls and a children's bento box came out to about $58, which I felt was pretty reasonable. The service was excellent. Multiple staff members checked on us, everyone was attentive, and we never felt ignored. The rolls were all great and full of flavor. There literally was not a single item we ordered that we didn't like! We paid $42 for the regular menu and there was plenty of variety with plenty of appetizers, nigiri, rolls, and more! Aikan is a bit of a down despite the hype. My wife and I came on a Wednesday and it was packed. A table for 2 took 30 minutes at 8:30. So this place is extremely popular but I am not sure why considering our experience. Our server was good, no issues with him. The problem was with the sushi. We ordered during happy hour, and we only got items off the happy hour menu. We grabbed probably 8 different rolls (4 pcs each) and none of them screamed quality. We found ourselves picking through them to try to get to work around the poor quality. As far as sushi experiences in LA, this may be one of the worst for us. The rolls were just so underwhelming and the flavor was lacking. The fish tasted like it was out for a little too long and by the end I experienced some abdominal pain that was concerning. The rolls were made haphazardly, certainly not done with care. As far as the ambience, it's a pretty standard sushi spot, nothing particularly remarkable. One issue was at the end of the night, at about 9:43 pm, a woman dropped off our check. We didn't ask for it, nor did we indicate we were done ordering. Yes, last call is at 9:30, but you shouldn't be rushing customers out and we may have wanted to get more drinks. She just walked past and dropped it. Many employees designated to speak with customers were conscious regarding customer service. However, many of the other workers who interacted with us failed to show us any customer service. With many thanks going unanswered making us feel as they were doing us a favor for doing their job. Poor customer service, basic ambience, and poor quality sushi results in a poor experience. A little customer service training for the staff would be good. Honestly one of the only saving graces was 2 dollar Sapporo's. That price is hard to beat.
