Futaba Ramen has easily become my go-to spot whenever I'm craving a good bowl of ramen. The restaurant has a really cozy vibe that makes it a great place to sit down and relax while enjoying a meal. My personal favorite is the Spicy Miso Ramen. it's consistently flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The appetizers are just as impressive too. The Chicken Karaage is crispy and juicy, the edamame is always a solid choice, and the seaweed-flavored fries are surprisingly addictive. One thing I tried recently was the side of Gyudon as part of the ramen combo. It was delicious! On top of the food, the service is always great. Server Becky has become a friend to my family & we always look forward to seeing her! This spot is on the top floor of a busy strip mall near CSUN so parking can be iffy but usually doable. I've only ordered ramen and curry dishes. Ramen has a good bite to it. Not too chewy but definitely not mushy. Broth is always flavorful. Curry was perfectly seasoned for my taste. Not too spicy. The bean sprouts they serve with every meal it seems they leave out the spices now. There is a bottle of togarashi on the table. I guess so people can season to their liking. The owner was super sweet and attentive as always. When I wanted to take my curry home she added more to my container. Futaba is a very small place. Not recommended for large groups. When I say this was the best katsu curry I have ever had, I mean it. The katsu was hot and crispy with a juicy interior, and the curry was the perfect combination of savory, sweet, and just a little bit of spice. The katsu and curry alone were amazing, but the rice was perfect as well. I will definitely be coming back for more katsu (or to try their ramen). If I could have one critique, it would be the mochi ice cream. It's $2 for one mochi cut in half, which I thought was a little weird. Right when you walk in you are greeted by the lovely employees who take great care of you the entire rest of your time there. All of the appetizers are amazing. Last time we got the gyoza and it was so good, especially dipped in the garlic soy sauce. I look forward to trying more of the appetizers. The Katsu curry and the garlic ramen were such hits. The beef tongue is one of those we've been getting lately ever since we first had it at another place and couldn't get enough! I was so worried I wouldn't enjoy the shio butter ramen BUT that added butter was a game changer and I even added garlic chips to it for more flavor. It was BEAUTIFUL. Had a nice lunch for a first visit to Futaba. Wait for table took some time but table came through as server informed after a reasonable wait for last leg of lunch rush 1:30 pm. My lunch dates opted for the Garlic Truffle Edamame, Karaage Chicken, and Shrimp Tempura for starters. All were tasty and prepared well. The shrimps were nice and crispy while still light on batter to protein. House salad dressing had some spiciness to it unexpected but good. Mains ordered were the Black Tonkatsu Ramen (which I surprisingly forgot to taste) and house Futaba Tonkatsu ramen with a gyudon and curry rice for combo items. House ramen broth was good, balanced in flavor and consistency. Thin styled noodles were tender cooked, sliced pork was a proper portion to last the serving. Though the soy sauce egg was not soft and runny like I prefer it was the sidekick that good ramen gets. Bean sprouts are served pre meal and in the ramen. They were plump and white, looked like they weren't seasoned or oiled as the pre meal snack but had flavor, I'd say less pepper than other places are serving. Gyudon was delicious and savory. The curry was not offered on a spice scale to my knowledge, but good as is. Not too hot, not too sweet, and not too heavy or sticky. Only drawback is like most other places, when a side of curry is served, the red candied radish called Fujinzuke served as a garnish does not come along unless ordering a full curry plate. Futaba is a comfortable space with hearty fare. Maybe the contender for best authentic ramen this side of town now that an old favorite is no more since the original chef went home to Japan to retire. Will definitely return to try more. read more

There is no sushi here- but you can get some fantastic ramen, tasty Japanese curry, and the usual yummy dons like katsu-don, unagi-don, or oyaku-don, and much much more! There is no host counter, sign up sheet, or Yelp tablet -- so you'll have to make sure you let them know inside to put you on the list. They do a brisk business when it's busy, so catch their attention. When you are seated they will immediately set you up with some spicy bean sprouts, which I love. Service is brisk but friendly, and the food comes out pretty quickly. The place is very cozy, with only a few tables and a small counter. The walls have a kitschy mix of cat and Japanese paraphernalia that somehow makes the experience more authentic. My favorite thing to get is one of the combinations. You get to choose a noodle and a mini-bowl. I can never finish the whole thing! But I am not the type that can just order and eat one thing for a meal. So the combination satisfies me, and is a good deal to boot! Although you can't go wrong with any of their hot ramen soup noodles, I tried for the first time, this time, the dipping noodles. I thoroughly enjoyed it! And no, it's not the same broth -- it's a more concentrated "sauce" with lots of umami flavor. I always add an extra 1/2 egg because their eggs are so perfect-- just look at my pics! Perfectly gelatinous yolk, beautiful and flavorful! My husband always wants their katsu-don, but my son argues for the oyaku-don. Both are delicious and huge! (But are not an option for the noodle and don combination) So we always end up ordering one on top of our personal orders and share it amongst the 3 of us. I ordered the Curry Rice with Pork Katsu and the katsu was so crispy yet the meat was still juicy on the inside. The curry itself was packed with flavor, but for me personally, I do prefer my curry to have more spice or kick to it. Agedashi Tofu was just ok. The sauce had a bit too much ginger imo. Takoyaki was the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside and gooey in the middle. Sheer perfection! Chicken was better than the Ika because of the juiciness, although I wish it had salt. Too much of a reliance on the Kewpie Mayo for any flavor. Fantastic Seaweed Salad. Kake Udon was just ok. Mild soy sauce flavor and honestly tasted similar to the instant Udon you can buy from Costco. Service is great. They weren't too busy on a Saturday afternoon so the dishes came out very quick.
