What a great find in Califonia! We found this spot by accident after driving to the wrong location for a wine tour near Malibu. Since we couldn't make it to the right place in time, we said, how about some ramen? So I looked up for spots and this one popped up. It didn't take long to convince ourselves to give it a try. The restaurant is small and in a small plaza in Reseda, CA. At first we were skeptical because we were not familiar with the area well but it turned out to be a great meal. We were welcomed by a friendly guy who was also the server. He managed the entire room seamlessly. We ordered the miso and spicy miso ramen--both were delicious and came in generous portions. The gyozas and fried rice were also tasty and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved that this place felt authentic. Definitely worth a stop or a detour. read more

One of my favorite spots growing up in LA, and I still make the long drive to come here when I'm craving ramen. They do Tokyo style ramen which is lighter and has a different flavor profile than most ramen shops, it's addicting! Also the best gyoza in LA imo. The ramen is decent, but nothing special imo compared to several solid options nearby. I was hungry after and had second dinner at a place nearby, but my wife had enough with one bowl. I am way overdue for an update of this spot... this is a phenomenal ramen restaurant, and one of the things I miss most about Reseda. Their shoyu and chashu ramen always hit the spot when it is a bit chilly out, and on a warm day their cold noodle dishes are equally tasty! The gyoza is also exceptional here, this is the best ramen restaurant in this part of the valley for sure! This is a very cozy spot, and also understandably very popular, so be prepared during standard lunch and dinner hours there may be a bit of a wait, but it is SO worth it. I've been coming to Ramen Nippon with my parents since I was little! I recently went and ordered the curry side with the pork ramen and it was so delicious! It's just how I remember it. Nippon Rāmen may be the first Rāmenya in the San Fernando Valley having been established over 35 years ago. Much of the Rāmen here adheres to old school tradition of Shōyu/soy sauce & Shio/ salt based soup broth. The heavy pork bone & fat based Tonkotsu Rāmen, which now seems more prevalent in the U.S. in the last 20 years is not as common in Japan where Assari/less rich, more refreshing style is more popular. I ordered a huge bowl of Gomoku Rāmen which is Shōyu based. Sautéed Nappa cabbage, smooth yet crunchy Kikuragè/cloud ear mushroom, fibrous bamboo shoots, thin ham, bit of chopped pork, squid, shrimp sprinkled with Shōyu and thickened with a bit of corn starch. The mixture is then poured on top of the Rāmen noodles tending toward al dente initially. Chopped green onions & half of a 3/4 boiled egg where the egg yolk is custardy are the final garnishes. Touch of sesame finishing oil to add a nutty, toasty, faint sweet tone. Red powdered Paprika & ground, smoky, white pepper shakers available to pep up the Rāmen broth. The Shōyu broth made from chicken bones & Katsuo Bushi/dried bonito flakes & rest of the ingredients are basically fine, but wish Nippon Rāmen used a richer, more concentrated broth for more pronounced Umami. Next tIme, I will opt for the Chāshū roast pork supplement.  This Gomoku Rāmen harking back to the reign era name of the Shōwa Emperor over 35 years ago is nostalgic & homey. Interior has tables & counter seating for single diners. Service here is fast, efficient, perfunctory. You are in & out with a minimum of fuss. 4- stars. read more

This used to be our "go to" ramen place 15+years ago when the Ramen place isn't that populate yet. They only accept cash that time and menu was limited. Today I crave for a traditional Japanese ramen style that's not creamy and went back to this place. It's the same inside, very neat and clean and the servers where really nice and attentive. They now accept cash or card and has a lot of varieties to choose from their menu. But of course the prices went up compare to the last time we were here. My partner ordered the miso ramen and I ordered the shoyu ramen. Pretty solid food all around; meat and noodles were good. Broth could be better. The low rating is due to the service; we waited a probably a good 30 mins after we finished the dessert to get our check. 4.5 stars. One is this best traditional style, Ramen in the Valley. They create their signature soup with made with chicken and bonito broth mixed that brings out great flavorful taste . In their menu, they offer 3 different broth Shoyu (soy sauce), Shio (salt), and Miso . They also make their ramen noodles and gyoza from scratch every day. You know this is good when the restaurant gets busy right when it opens. There's noting fancy about Ramen Nippon bowl of ramen. It's just simple, delicious broth with perfectly cooked ramen noodles with good chewyness and simple toppings. My favorite bowls so far are: Chashu Ramen and Spicy Niramoyashi Ramen ( Highly recommend adding Chashu), but the whole menu does look good. You have plenty of different styles ramen to choose from. Had it for the first time last week it was amazing! I don't eat pork so the lady working there helping me out. I got a Tofu creamy ramen that was so good I came back and described what I had last time. The guy looked at me like I was crazy he said no I can't do that and said I should pick from menu and charge extra for tofu because what I ordered last time is impossible and walked away, I was embarrassed by the way he spoke to me. With restaurants increasing all the prices everywhere, service to me is everything. I definitely notice favoritism to regulars at restaurants and this restaurant will possibly make you feel like a second class citizen if they don't know you. When I walked in, I was ignored and the moment a regular walked in, she was immediately greeted and seated and I had to tell them that I was there first. Once at the table, I noticed that the regulars got menus, drinks, and faster service. I was left on my device looking at the menu on their website. As someone who eats out very often, favoritism does not go unnoticed and really annoys the heck me. At that point, I should have walked out of the restaurant when I noticed this from the beginning, but I really wanted ramen. My ramen was a little on the warm side as if it was sitting for a while in the kitchen. My food was dropped off and that was it. No water refill and no return trip to check on me. The regulars got really fast and friendly service. For $39 for a bowl of ramen, gyoza, including tip, I will not be returning again as Ramen Nippon has a lot of competition these days in LA -- It's no longer 1989. They can go ahead and keep their regulars happy as I won't be one of them. This is too bad because their miso ramen would be even more delicious if it was served hot. Their egg is no longer overcooked and has improved. Their redesigned menu is better organized since my last visit, but unfortunately at the prices they are charging now and lackluster service, I will not be returning and will continue to visit the modern spots that are constantly opening around town like Michelin-rated Tonchin. read more

I'll keep this short and sweet. This is flat out some of the best ramen I've ever had in my life. The waitress let us know they've been there for 35 years and they proudly make their own broth everyday. Absolutely incredible flavor and nothing needed to be added to it. The ingredients are fresh, the portions are huge, and the service was excellent. This little gem hidden in a strip mall in Reseda is exactly why I love hunting for food in LA. Nippon Ramen specializes in a "light broth" ramen or Tokyo style assari ramen (not "asari": clam). The Assari style broth is typically lighter then the "Tonkotsu" pork bone broth. Very few spots in Los Angeles specialize in Assari style ramen due to the highly popular pork bone broth craze. Here at Nippon Ramen the delicious soup profile is made up of roasted chicken, kombu, vegetables, dashi, and some type of seafood... How do I know? I asked the friendly owner, lol. Am sure she left out their secret ingredients, I just wanted to know if there was pork in it. The ramen broth here is a great option for NON-PORK preference. However, they DO have pork as options for toppings. My mistake in the past on reviewing Nippon Ramen was comparing it to those porky "Tonkotsu" ramen spots. Here, they specialize in lighter broth ramen : completely different from Tonkotsu broth base. This restaurant has been here for over 25 yrs and has a strong following. read more

This has become a regular place to have good ramen in the valley for me. I grew up eating ramen, and so I am very picky when it comes to ramen. The service is amazing. I can tell that this place has been around for a long time and I adore the women who have served me while dining here. They are attentive and kind. The restaurant itself has a vintage feel, almost retro. It is always clean and tidy. I've never had trouble parking here and it's always a quick meal. I get their shoyu ramen with chashu pork. The flavor of the broth is OG. This is exactly what I want when I order a shoyu ramen. The chashu is tender and falls apart. I have never had a completely fatty piece of chashu pork in my ramen here. Tucked away in a small strip mall in Reseda - another new favorite!! I had the Ja Ja Men: "It's like a homemade bolognese, but Japanese-style meat sauce on warm ramen noodles (without soup). Thinly sliced pork and seasoned, juicy ground pork meat are both cooked in a dark miso sauce on boiled ramen noodles with sliced fresh cucumber, boiled baby bokchoy, and chopped scallions." And substituted (preference at times) with the gluten-free noodles: "The gluten-free noodle looks just the same as regular ramen noodle but is made with potato starch, rice flour, konnyaku powder instead of wheat flour." I've been a Ramen Nippon customer for maybe more than half my life now! In a time when authentic Japanese ramen was scarce (hard to imagine these days!), they were an oasis in the San Fernando Valley. These days people are more familiar with rich and decadent tonkotsu variations, but Ramen Nippon's mainstay I feel has always been simpler shio and shoyu broths. I've tried just about most things on the menu and have enjoyed their food throughout these many years; even though they may not be the best ramen I've ever had (e.g. if they could softboil their egg that would be great!), this place serves a good meal and has a soft spot in my heart (and stomach!) as the very first establishment that launched me on my ramen fandom. read more
