Nice little spot in Northridge next to CSUN. They opened up the outside seating area so we were able to be seated right away. Food and service were great, although there was some minor mixup with our food everything was correctly promptly. I especially liked the chirashi, all the sashimi was fresh and buttery. Minor complaint on the Uni though it tasted a bit bitter.

Had a nice dinner here at Katsu-ya in Northridge... our server Sawa was so kind & friendly, she was honestly the highlight of our entire dining experience. All the sushi we tried was fresh & delightful, but at the price point, the portions are quite small. It's a pretty expensive spot, and the inside is cozy & very traditional. Not much space so I'd recommend a reservation because spots fill up quick, even on weeknights. I'd consider coming back again when I'm in the mood for a more elevated sushi experience.

Made a reservation so we didn't have to wait for a table. The service is always so friendly and welcoming, however at times it can be a little bit of wait depending on how busy it is, but I don't mind. The food is always great and the fish is fresh. The place is small but cozy and it's always an enjoyable time here.

Sushi Katsu-ya is always a great experience. The salmon belly was super buttery, the salmon with caviar and tuna were really fresh, and the uni was sweet and creamy. Service was quick and friendly, and the ambiance is relaxed but lively, which makes it a nice spot to sit at the bar and enjoy sushi. I definitely recommend this place.

We visited on a Friday night and got seated right away. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and take reservations. The service was excellent, everyone was super attentive and welcoming. Our server recommended the Northridge Roll (not on the menu), and it was really good, highly recommend trying it! There's a shared parking lot that can get a bit crowded since there are multiple businesses in the plaza, but you can usually find a spot. We ordered crispy rice and three sushi rolls, all were good!

Great Chirashi Bowl at this spot for just $23. They start you off with a steaming bowl of miso soup and their delicious small salad and then arrives the main attraction, with a variety of sashimi, all of it very very fresh. The sashimi is accompanied by delicious rice with nori strips and some pickles. I also like to add a cut roll or 2 afterwards. Today I went with spicy tuna cut roll as well as spicy shrimp cut roll in soy paper. Both were phenomenal. Katsuya is generally known for good quality fish and today too, it did not disappoint. The ambiance here is good vibes for sure and the service is definitely friendly and solid. Will definitely be back again! .

Sushi was okay. I liked the albacore special roll with the onion crunch on it. Not photographed is 4 1/2 Roll which was nothing special and fell flat to me and the salmon avocado which didn't really have that much salmon. The spicy tuna also didn't feel like it had enough within the sushi. Space was clean and the service was great though.

The food was great the yellowtail was not that good but the salmon was, it's pretty packed inside but we were immediately seated at the bar and our orders came fast but it took forever to get our check cus the ladies were making mistakes. Otherwise the chefs and cutters at the bar were nice and quick and attentive specifically the two Hispanic men who were rolling the hand rolls. Inside is small but cute.

Finally came true for us. After all the years of searching for the best sushi with good value, we came to terms that Katsuya is overall the best. Friendly service, classic sushi ambiance, special unique creations exclusively served. We had some issues with them in the past but looking at the big picture, we overlooked. Best appetizer sashimi's, unique signature rolls.

This spot is crowded all the time and I can definitely see why! The fish is fresh, the staff is very kind, and the roll combinations are delicious! My favorite item has got to be the spicy tuna crispy rice! I love how soft the rice is! The sushi rolls are perfect bite size and a great way to try a variety of rolls! Casual ambiance with indoor and outdoor seating, and despite the crowds, service is swift in getting you seated!

First time here a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sushi. The restaurant itself is a small place which makes the wait time a little bit longer. But it's worth the weight in my opinion. I love, traditional sushi restaurants because I feel that I can have different type of sushi and not be so full so quick. The rice to fish ratio was perfect. All the rolls are delicious and the service itself was really great. My friend and I waited for about 30 minutes on a Friday night for two which wasn't bad considering that the restaurant was full and there was a lot of people waiting. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you want traditional sushi.

I have been going to this Katsuya for many years and have never left a review! This is my go to sushi spot. The fish is always fresh! The place is small so try to get there early. The Uni is always fresh or they won't serve it. It is very casual. Which I like. The service is good although don't expect everyone's food to come out together, if you know this ahead of time just expect it and be surprised the times that everyone's food comes together . We accept this because we prefer to have our fish the second it is ready! Thank you Katsuya for your years of service and being my family's favorite sushi spot!

Came for lunch with my wife. It was her birthday and she was so happy. We were here just for a simple lunch as we are celebrating her birthday with my kids later that day. We ordered their pan fried fish and the tempura meal and it didn't disappoint. It was like eating in a fine dining restaurant with an affordable price. They were so good! The plating is excellent and you can tell how fresh their food is. The staff are really nice and friendly. They are very attentive and really make sure you're dining experience is something to remember. Place is small but very clean and organized. Parking is not a problem. Great japanese restaurant!

Do they serve wild caught or farm raised fish?

It depends on what fish and what time of the year. They are very professional and meticulous though in their craft, and they do always source the best quality fish available. I have never had bad fish there.

That side is named Kusina Ni Kuya and has a vast catering menu. I came here for a carry out from the Cajun side and picked as I did before, the half pound shrimp. The only difference is this time, I opted for the peeled version. This was prepared in the house Kuya sauce, medium spicy, with an extra of boiled okra. The dish did not disappoint and was consistent in texture and flavor, and a glorious mixture of spices as before. This entrée has a lot of oil added to it, but that is what brings out this burst of taste and satisfaction. Everything was soaked with the thick sauce. This time what I did at home was, I boiled a few golden premium small potatoes with skin, sliced them into quarters and added it to the mix. Once it soaked up the gravy of the shrimp dish, the potatoes ascended to a totally different level. So how does the peeled version compare to the whole shrimp version? I would say that the whole shrimp selection is the way to go. The meat is not overcooked and you get the flavor off the shrimp shells too, that kicks it up more than a notch. In addition, the fact that you have to use your fingers to get to the shrimp meat (though messy), heightens the pleasure of the dining experience.

Let me be crystal clear--Cajun Ni Kuya just embarrassed half the seafood spots out there…read more Absolutely embarrassed them. I went in for the $38.99 all-you-can-eat, and what did I get? Not some sad, watered-down, reheated nonsense like other places try to pass off--I got REAL Cajun seafood. Properly cooked. Properly seasoned. Actually worth paying for. I ordered crawfish, clams, mussels, and head-on shrimp, and every single tray came out piping hot, drenched in that bold, garlicky, buttery sauce that hits you like a freight train. Not bland. Not timid. Not "lightly seasoned for the masses." No--this is full-flavor, unapologetic, get-it-all-over-your-hands Cajun. The crawfish? Seasoned all the way through, not just dusted on the outside like some lazy joke. Other spots--take notes. The shrimp? Perfectly cooked, heads packed with flavor. If you're scared of that, stay home and order chicken tenders. The clams and mussels? Clean, tender, not a single one questionable--which already puts them ahead of places charging MORE and serving LESS. And then the sides--this is where it gets ridiculous. Boiled okra, sweet corn, quail eggs, all soaked in that same sauce? That's not a side--that's a statement. Everything is absorbing flavor like it's supposed to. No shortcuts. No laziness. Just execution. And here's what really separates them from the clowns-- the quality never dropped. You keep ordering, they keep delivering heat. Same flavor. Same intensity. No "second round is worse" nonsense. That's what happens when a kitchen actually knows what it's doing. Meanwhile, other seafood spots are out here charging premium prices for bland, overcooked garbage and calling it "Cajun." Stop it. Just stop. This is how it's DONE. Messy. Bold. Loud. Flavor in your face. Hands covered in sauce. Zero regrets. If you leave Cajun Ni Kuya unsatisfied, don't blame the restaurant--blame your taste buds. I'll be back. And I'm bringing an appetite that's ready for war.

Over the years, the place has a good customer base for good reason. The issue is that they are ALWAYS understaffed. Don't let the hiring sign on their door fool you. Owership intentionally understaffs even when they have people hired to cut cost. They are so understaffed that customers wait over an hour on average to be seated during typical dining hours on WEEKENDS with half the restaurant seating capacity available and unused. Then ordering, the staff is so busy that they do not take in restaurant orders and ask the people seated in the restaurant to place online orders for pickup which also forces you 5o pay gratuity upfront unless you carey cash which most people no logner do then take their receipt to the cashier. Then you have the issue of this rule being selectively enforced. The staff seems to pick and choose who is forced into placing an order online vs who is not. Today we arrived at the restaurant around 6:20pm. Despite half empty, we were seated around 7:45. 10 minutes later of not being aknowledged, i wave a familaor face and he tells me that it would likely be faster if we place the order online. The order was placed by 7:57. it should order compelte by 8:28 but by 8:38 our food had not arrived. i get frustrated and ask what seemed to be staff that was already frustrated where the food is and before i even get to the part that it shows online our food was already served, he tells me: Dude, we are really busy. it will come out when its ready. a few minutes later the food came out and i asked the person bringing the food who us the manager. he said he was and i told him the situation. he took full accountability and even offered a refund saying he recognized we were regulars. i said i recognized him too and said I will not accept a refund. It is not fair to make food for people and not get paid but I told him that that someone whether it was him, the manager before he took over the shift, or ownership is accountable. This type of experience and standard of service is horrible for a business. He kept apologizing snd isnisted on a refund to his credit. I refused but thanked him for the courtesy. I made sure that above all, respect for customers should be prioritized when other service variables fall short. its the one thing that can mitigate this type of feedback and the one person that tipped this in the wrong direction leading to this review was the last straw that broke the camels back. But to be clear this is not a one incident occurence. This is the third and likely final time I come to Tasty Pot.
