Everything was fresh and really good, but the Ventura Roll was easily my favorite. That roll was unreal. Honestly, I would go back just for that roll . On a Monday around 8:30pm, we were seated immediately. Parking was plentiful in the lot. - Una-ju $18.8: this still hit the spot for SO. Tasty eel. - Sauteed Garlic Shrimo $12.8: salty and the garlic chips were burnt to an inedible crisp - Moonlight Seafood Bowl $11.8: not bad tho slightly fishy and a small portion Chef specials are still kinda worth despite the $2-$3 increase. There's something about this Katsu-ya ... it's just not as appealing as Woodland Hills, Century City or Encino. Perhaps it's the presentation of the dishes, perhaps it's the taste, or the ambiance, or the service... it just isn't as "nice" as you'd expect from the Katsu-ya brand. The last time I came (and probably the last time I ever will), my friend described it as "lived in" and "a little worn out." Unfortunately, I would agree. Also, we asked for several modifications due to allergies and they basically said there are no guarantees and seemed so annoyed to even have to deal with it... another thing that we don't experience at their other locations. First time here a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sushi. The restaurant itself is a small place which makes the wait time a little bit longer. But it's worth the weight in my opinion. I love, traditional sushi restaurants because I feel that I can have different type of sushi and not be so full so quick. The rice to fish ratio was perfect. All the rolls are delicious and the service itself was really great. My friend and I waited for about 30 minutes on a Friday night for two which wasn't bad considering that the restaurant was full and there was a lot of people waiting. Great Chirashi Bowl at this spot for just $23. They start you off with a steaming bowl of miso soup and their delicious small salad and then arrives the main attraction, with a variety of sashimi, all of it very very fresh. The sashimi is accompanied by delicious rice with nori strips and some pickles. I also like to add a cut roll or 2 afterwards. Today I went with spicy tuna cut roll as well as spicy shrimp cut roll in soy paper. Both were phenomenal. Katsuya is generally known for good quality fish and today too, it did not disappoint. After Mr Katsuya Died Rip many of his locations have been losing there quality no toro no yellowtail complete failure in a high end sushi world that is evolving daily . You can't charge someone 400 dollars for a party of 2 and serve them frozen tuna no belly no hand roll. The food was great the yellowtail was not that good but the salmon was, it's pretty packed inside but we were immediately seated at the bar and our orders came fast but it took forever to get our check cus the ladies were making mistakes. I ordered a bento box to go and it was delicious and a steal! So many different types of fish and it was delicious and still fresh when I picked it up You can order from them through DoorDash and UberEats but you can also order directly with them! The restaurant is cute and quaint. It used to be an incredible sushi place called Kabuki, but after the owners changed it, it became katsuya. This is my go to spot for sushi when ordering to go. They package everything neatly and it tastes delicious at home as well. I prefer getting it through an ordering app because the parking lot gets full here. The veggies on the side could've been seasoned more as they tasted like they needed salt. The Cajun salmon roll didn't really taste like Cajun but still had good flavor and the soy paper was a nice touch. It felt healthier and not as heavy. The food is horrible. We went to Northridge with a group of people and ordered 6 spicy tuna crispy rice. Asked for extra crispy. It came out all soggy and cold. We complained to the waiter and the manager. The waiter and the manager were not very helpful. Also ordered albacore and crispy onion and it was half the size and tasted frozen.
