[[HIGHLIGHT]]Friendly service with seating inside and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Fresh fish. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat at the bar area and Martin made our sushi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a very popular night and the ambiance was lively.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Shopping mall parking can get limited.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice little spot in Northridge next to CSUN.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They opened up the outside seating area so we were able to be seated right away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food and service were great, although there was some minor mixup with our food everything was correctly promptly. I especially liked the chirashi, all the sashimi was fresh and buttery. Minor complaint on the Uni though it tasted a bit bitter.

    Albacore Special Roll
    Camille L.

Sushi was okay. I liked the albacore special roll with the onion crunch on it. Not photographed is 4 1/2 Roll which was nothing special and fell flat to me and the salmon avocado which didn't really have that much salmon. The spicy tuna also didn't feel like it had enough within the sushi. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Space was clean and the service was great though.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Had a nice dinner here at Katsu-ya in Northridge... our server Sawa was so kind & friendly, she was honestly the highlight of our entire dining experience. All the sushi we tried was fresh & delightful, but at the price point, the portions are quite small. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a pretty expensive spot, and the inside is cozy & very traditional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not much space so I'd recommend a reservation because spots fill up quick, even on weeknights.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'd consider coming back again when I'm in the mood for a more elevated sushi experience.

Made a reservation so we didn't have to wait for a table. The service is always so friendly and welcoming, however at times it can be a little bit of wait depending on how busy it is, but I don't mind. The food is always great and the fish is fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is small but cozy and it's always an enjoyable time here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We visited on a Friday night and got seated right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and take reservations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was excellent, everyone was super attentive and welcoming. Our server recommended the Northridge Roll (not on the menu), and it was really good, highly recommend trying it! There's a shared parking lot that can get a bit crowded since there are multiple businesses in the plaza, but you can usually find a spot. We ordered crispy rice and three sushi rolls, all were good!

First time here a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sushi. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is a small place which makes the wait time a little bit longer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But it's worth the weight in my opinion. I love, traditional sushi restaurants because I feel that I can have different type of sushi and not be so full so quick. The rice to fish ratio was perfect. All the rolls are delicious and the service itself was really great. My friend and I waited for about 30 minutes on a Friday night for two which wasn't bad considering that the restaurant was full and there was a lot of people waiting. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you want traditional sushi.

Great Chirashi Bowl at this spot for just $23. They start you off with a steaming bowl of miso soup and their delicious small salad and then arrives the main attraction, with a variety of sashimi, all of it very very fresh. The sashimi is accompanied by delicious rice with nori strips and some pickles. I also like to add a cut roll or 2 afterwards. Today I went with spicy tuna cut roll as well as spicy shrimp cut roll in soy paper. Both were phenomenal. Katsuya is generally known for good quality fish and today too, it did not disappoint. The ambiance here is good vibes for sure and the service is definitely friendly and solid. Will definitely be back again! .

Sushi Katsu-ya is always a great experience. The salmon belly was super buttery, the salmon with caviar and tuna were really fresh, and the uni was sweet and creamy. Service was quick and friendly, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the ambiance is relaxed but lively, which makes it a nice spot to sit at the bar and enjoy sushi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I definitely recommend this place.

The food was great the yellowtail was not that good but the salmon was, [[HIGHLIGHT]]it's pretty packed inside but we were immediately seated at the bar and our orders came fast[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] but it took forever to get our check cus the ladies were making mistakes. Otherwise the chefs and cutters at the bar were nice and quick and attentive specifically the two Hispanic men who were rolling the hand rolls. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside is small but cute.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Finally came true for us. After all the years of searching for the best sushi with good value, we came to terms that Katsuya is overall the best. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Friendly service, classic sushi ambiance, special unique creations exclusively served.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had some issues with them in the past but looking at the big picture, we overlooked. Best appetizer sashimi's, unique signature rolls.

This spot is crowded all the time and I can definitely see why! The fish is fresh, the staff is very kind, and the roll combinations are delicious! My favorite item has got to be the spicy tuna crispy rice! I love how soft the rice is! The sushi rolls are perfect bite size and a great way to try a variety of rolls! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Casual ambiance with indoor and outdoor seating, and despite the crowds, service is swift in getting you seated![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Came for lunch with my wife. It was her birthday and she was so happy. We were here just for a simple lunch as we are celebrating her birthday with my kids later that day. We ordered their pan fried fish and the tempura meal and it didn't disappoint. It was like eating in a fine dining restaurant with an affordable price. They were so good! The plating is excellent and you can tell how fresh their food is. The staff are really nice and friendly. They are very attentive and really make sure you're dining experience is something to remember. Place is small but very clean and organized. Parking is not a problem. Great japanese restaurant!

Do they do All You Can Eat? If they do, how much is it?

No AYCE at Katsuya, but the food rocks!

Do they serve wild caught or farm raised fish?

It depends on what fish and what time of the year. They are very professional and meticulous though in their craft, and they do always source the best quality fish available. I have never had bad fish there.

The restaurant itself is pretty small and cozy, which I liked. One thing to know is that the parking lot entrance is easy to miss if you're driving by on the main street. I don't eat pork, but I'm okay with pork broth, so I asked if I could substitute the pork chashu for chicken. What I received instead was popcorn chicken, which was unexpected and not at all what I had in mind. There was no communication that this would be the substitute, which made it even more frustrating. On top of that, I was still charged for it without any clarification beforehand. Transparency goes a long way, especially when making substitutions. Overall, between the lackluster flavor and the confusing substitution, it just didn't feel like a thoughtful or well-executed experience.

For example, the agedashi tofu came with vegetables like zucchini, eggplant, and cauliflower, which is quite unusual and not something I've seen in traditional Japanese preparation. The sashimi also tasted off -- it seemed like very low-quality fish, almost as if it had been frozen for too long. We also ordered a nabeyaki udon for our 2-year-old, knowing it's typically served in a very hot bowl. However, the server attempted to place it directly in front of our child without any hesitation or warning, which felt quite careless and concerning from a safety perspective. Overall, this didn't feel like authentic Japanese cuisine or sushi, but more of an unclear fusion concept. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt it was important to share this experience so others don't come in expecting high-quality or traditional Japanese food.

This is one of the few Mitsuwa that doesn't have a food court (San Gabriel is another one without). The premade food section was surprisingly pretty good, better options than the Torrance or Santa Monica locations, imo. They do carry the same poke bowl that is also sold at Torrance. The store closes at 9:00pm, so the premade food section is pretty much cleared out and the self checkout is closed by around 8:00pm. The late hours actually got the busiest because only one staffed cash register was open and customers had to get in line instead of the self checkout. The store is clean and spacious, lots of self checkouts that are open during the day, and the bathrooms were clean (just need to get the code from a staff member!). I came three times on a weekday, once a little after lunch and another right around 5:30 and then around 8:00. Parking was a breeze every time. They have plenty of parking adjacent to the store. The other side of the shopping center gets a little busy, but Mitsuwa is at the comfortable corner closest to the train tracks. Getting out of the parking lot can be challenging because Tampa is a busy street and some people try to make a left turn out (I have my opinions about that lol). If heading out towards CSUN, the shopping center also has two exits out to Nordhoff so that worked well for me. I was in the area for a few job interviews... If I am hired nearby I'm definitely coming to this Mitsuwa a lot :)
