Cajun Ni Kuya is a Filipino Cajun restaurant in Northridge. One half of the space is devoted to a food case where you can pick up several Filipino dishes to eat at the restaurant or to take home. That side is named Kusina Ni Kuya and has a vast catering menu. I came here for a carry out from the Cajun side and picked as I did before, the half pound shrimp. The only difference is this time, I opted for the peeled version. This was prepared in the house Kuya sauce, medium spicy, with an extra of boiled okra. The dish did not disappoint and was consistent in texture and flavor, and a glorious mixture of spices as before. This entrée has a lot of oil added to it, but that is what brings out this burst of taste and satisfaction. Everything was soaked with the thick sauce. This time what I did at home was, I boiled a few golden premium small potatoes with skin, sliced them into quarters and added it to the mix. Once it soaked up the gravy of the shrimp dish, the potatoes ascended to a totally different level. So how does the peeled version compare to the whole shrimp version? I would say that the whole shrimp selection is the way to go. The meat is not overcooked and you get the flavor off the shrimp shells too, that kicks it up more than a notch. I've had seafood boil at a lot of different restaurants and used to work as a waitress at The Boiling Crab, and Cajun Ni Kuya tops ALL. When you walk in, the interior is bright and clean. We came around 5pm and it was empty so we were able to be seated right away. First off, AYCE seafood boil for $38.99?? Unheard of. Plus open mic karaoke Friday and Saturday nights? It's the most ideal way to spend a weekend evening. We ordered ours with "Kuya's way" (house mix) and it was so flavorful, but not too salty/overwhelming. Everything was perfectly cooked, which was nice as many places tend to overcook seafood boil. Also a really nice touch that you can add boiled eggplant, which I haven't seen before. This place was very good. I like the special sauce. It's like a combination sauce. The food was fresh hot made to order. I appreciate that you are not overly served so you can go back for different varieties. The first round I had shrimp mussels crawfish the second round I just wanted more muscles tried to quail eggs that was unique. They were a little bit more bouncy the white part but they had a really creamy yolk. The flavoring as I said was on point restaurant was clean service was fast the time we went in there was not too many people which was nice and they're right next to a Thai spot inside the same building, which was kind of cool but like I say, give it a try and you decide be aware. Such a unique concept to have filipino food and seafood boil in one spot so we've been planning to go for some time now. Glad we finally got the chance. We chose the package $45.99 for 1/2lb. of shrimp, clams, mussels, and comes with corn, sausages and choice of rice or fries. It said good for 2 but it was enough for more. Came to try this place out and was not expecting a karaoke night! Its quite loud, but still very pleasant and friendly. It was so busy that we didn't see the waitresses much and had to ask for water a couple of times, but everything came out ok. We ordered the seafood platter for 2, and it was more than enough food. Came here today and it did not disappoint at all! It was empty when we got there, which was nice because we didn't have to wait I'm curious if it gets busy on the weekends though. I went with their AYCE option and for the price, it was totally worth it. I loved the variety of options you could add. I had the mussels with their "Kuya's Way" flavor and wow so much flavor, it was delicious! I also tried the lechon and lumpia, both were cooked perfectly and super flavorful. The ambiance was nice, with good tunes playing and TVs showing the news, which added a chill vibe. The staff was also really friendly and attentive throughout our visit. After another crab restaurant was packed with an hour wait we went in search of something new. We found this place by accident and it ended up being 100x better than the other place. Kinda spicy which is exactly what I like. I'm sure they can make it more mild if you requested but that's no fun! We've had this spot on our list for a while and decided to have dinner here finally! Parking is super tiny but we managed to luckily find a spot up front. We got there shortly before 6pm and were the only ones there! Surprisingly empty for the time we went. Seems they have a separate connecting food area next door for take out only? Not sure but it was dark in that side of the room. We were greeted by Jonas who was very attentive and always made sure to check on us which was great. Food itself was okay. We ordered some garlic butter shrimp, flavor was amazing but scorching hot and difficult to eat. I almost wish it was just served in a bowl so that I can scoop the butter onto my rice which I was already doing. The fried chicken, sweet potato fries, and butterfly shrimp were pretty okay. The Calamansi juice is a must! I always go for it whenever a restaurant has it in their menu. I have been eyeing this place since the name change. It used to be another seafood spot before attached to Kusina ni Kuya. I came here on a Tues night (10/24/2023) with my girlfriends. I got here at 7:30PM and we were the only ones in the whole entire restaurant til they closed at 10PM (but they closed early probably because we were they only customers the whole night). Parking in front was easy peasy. Of course, the name alone lets me know this place is Filipino owned and operated. In honor of Filipino American History month, I came to eat. :) My friends ordered (2) rice, lumpia (eggrolls), lechon kawali (crispy fried pork belly), and fries (2 baskets - LOL). I ordered the peeled shrimp because I was feeling lazy and didn't want to peel. Normally, I would keep the shrimp with a shell because I like to suck the head. (No dirty thoughts!) I went with 1 lb in kuya sauce medium level which is $20.99, but of course I needed to make additions. LOL I added one corn ($1.50), 5 pcs of quail eggs ($1.99), and 3pcs of potato ($2.50). Everything was good. Nothing that would not deter me from coming back. I would eat here again. I'm partial to lumpia and lechon, because I bleed it as a Filipino. The spice level on the shrimp was spicy (but I can handle it) but next time I just might go mild since I really liked the flavor of the kuya sauce (garlic butter with cajun spices). Our whole bill with tax and tip came out close to $100. Not bad for the 3 of us. I'll be back another time. I'm sure my family would be very interested in coming. Kusina ni kuya is my place to go for ordering food for parties at home. They are the best in the valley for me for filipino food. Now we got to try their cajun shrimp. I must say this will be my favorite cajun spot from now on!! The blend is perfect and way better than the famous kickin kasian and the expensive boiling crab! We also get to try their calamari, t'was good but nothing special. It looks like it was a frozen pre made calamari that you fry when someone orders it. I would prefer if that was their own batter mixture. The place is very spacious and clean. Service was great! Nice staff and fast! Pricewise is ok. I was really craving a seafood boil and this was the closest one that was open. I didn't really have any expectations for my visit here, all I knew was that I wanted crawfish and they offered it here. They are located in a plaza and is actually connected to another Filipino restaurant. The inside look very clean and we I went, it was just me and my boyfriend there. I'm not sure if they get busy, but they do have an option for people to join a guest list through Yelp if ever needed. We ordered cajun fries to start with and for the seafood boil we ordered shrimp, crawfish, and clams (all 1Lb), with Kuya's Style in medium. The medium actually wasn't spicy at all, I actually wished we ordered spicy instead. I think I was a bit disappointed with the fact that the crawfish was very squishy. I am not sure if it's because it was frozen or if it was over cooked, but it make it very hard to eat. Everything else was okay. The sauce had A LOT of garlic, which I'm totally okay with. This review is for food only. Just finished eating my delivery order of half pound shrimp with eggplant side (kuyas sauce) and the 1lb clam with lemon pepper. I will say this place needs more improvement in terms of flavor. The shrimp was very garlicky which is fine, but it was so oily. I was able to eat that while eating white rice. The clams however were so peppery it was almost inedible. It was like someone threw a fistful of pepper into the bag. I order Cajun seafood delivery quite a bit so I know when the flavors are balanced or not. The clams had way too much pepper and little to no lemon flavor, also over cooked as the clams were rubbery. Please work on the flavors but for now I won't be ordering again. I wanted to support a fellow Filipino's business but I can't overlook the food's shortcomings. read more

One server was busy placing orders, the other seemed lost, very inexperienced, and had to be told what to do. FOOD: We ordered their seafood platter ($45.99), good for 2 people, with shrimp, mussels, and clams (each half pound), plus sausages, corn, and rice. We also added 2 orders of quail eggs. The wait was not too long. The platter itself did not have much in it. We opted for non-spicy sauce, which was good, but it still had a kick to it. Now, the seafood: The shrimp and mussels were UNDERCOOKED. The shrimp still had a gray tinge and were soft and chewy. Unacceptable. Half of the clams were unopened as well.
