Gyoza

I ordered the 6-piece hand roll set, which turned out to be a great combination overall. The only one I didn't enjoy was the spicy tuna. The location is very easy to find, just near Pike Place. Seating is counter-style only, so you get to watch the chefs prepare each hand roll right in front of you. Any cooked items are made in a separate kitchen near the entrance, but since it's an open concept, you can still see everything happening. Ora King Salmon: I love a good salmon roll, and this one did not disappoint, simple and absolutely delicious. Ebi Nuoc Mam: A shrimp hand roll with great flavor, definitely one of the highlights. Spicy Tuna: This one was a miss for me. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really enjoy a strong, spicy kick.Even after eating the rest of the handrolls, I still had that spicy taste stuck in my mouth. Kampachi (Almaco Jack): Part of the yellowtail family. It had a slightly fishier taste compared to the others, which wasn't my favorite, but my partner enjoyed its chewy texture. Crispy Shrimp: Panko-fried shrimp with sweet chili and mayo, crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. Torched Unagi: A classic favorite, sweet, savory, and always a great choice. Gyoza (6 pcs): Very savory dumplings filled with finely minced pork, cabbage, garlic, and ginger. The sauce really elevates the dish and adds an extra punch of flavor. Overall, a fun dining experience with fresh hand rolls and a great view of the preparation process. Not much interaction with the servers since the chef is technically your server and he places the food in front of you.

Sugo delivers a great experience for a casual sushi bar dining. All hand rolls and nigiris were so fresh. My favorite was melt-in-your-mouth chutoro nigiri. Would recommend it to anyone who likes fatty tuna. Drinks were also tasty. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time.

Eggplant Hand Roll

The first time I went to a hand roll bar, it was in Los Angeles. Fun experience. So when I heard about Sugo, I had to try it. So should you. Everyone sits at the bar. Servers take your order (assuming 4 rolls is a minimum) and the chef starts cranking out one roll at a time. You can come solo or with a crew. It's social and delicious. They have veggie rolls such as avocado-truffle and tempura eggplant. They are fantastic and half the price of a special roll. I love kanpachi so I had to try it. It was my favorite. The shrimp with nuoc mam was also excellent and something I had not had in sushi. Happy hour starts at 2pm. Next time....

I came here about 2-3 years ago and wasnt very impressed because both the nori and fish were very soggy during that experience. I passed by the other day and decided to give it another try. I was very pleasantly surprised! they have since expanded the fish selections on the menu, the flavor pairings felt much more elevated for each handroll, and my nori was very crisp :) favorites: kampachi (lime zest is great), madai, & ofc king salmon! i did still find the otoro and hamachi to be just a smidge fishy. overall a great casual spot for freshly made handrolls!

Rare hand roll bar in Seattle - sit at the sushi bar and enjoy freshly made hand rolls. Recommend the soft shell crab (amazing!), wagyu inaruzushi, crispy shrimp. Hand rolls are well made. Service is friendly. Chill vibes in a nice setting. Pricing is fair.

Good value hand roll bar out of the main pike place market area, looks like they rotate out their menu seasonally. Fish quality was pretty good but what was most impressive were how balanced all the flavors were - everything worked well together and their choices of seasoning and garnish really elevated the handroll!! Also I love how they don't put too much rice in the handroll - emphasis is on the filling and the seaweed doesn't get too soggy that way The also pay attention to details - rolls that have items that might fall out have an additional seaweed piece tucking it in. Rolls with too much filling are left open to eat like a taco Fav handrolls were the - king salmon : burst of fresh salmon flavor, good amount of fat and oil - shrimp w fish sauce : very refreshing! Felt like a spring roll (successfully) turned into a hand roll - crunchy shrimp : very umami and nice crisp, shrimp remained juicy inside Nigiri was alright - akami nigiri was a bit too fishy and tough to chew for me, chutoro was better

Love this place!! Got to see the chef prepare each roll in front of us which was so nice! Each roll was around $7 which I find to be a good deal. The calamari had to be my favorite but the spicy scallop was also really good.

Omakase
Christopher L.

This is for the Omakase experience. Hands down, this is one of the best Omakase I have been to. To start, there is an oyster appetizer (be early, not late) that was flavorful and started the dinner off right. Each bite was delicious, paced well, and explained well. Each bite built with flavor. The sake pairing went perfect with the meal as well. At the end, there are extra bites available and they were well worth it. Last, there was a small bite for dessert to round out the meal. The space is nice and has about 10 people. For the service, it was spot on and really appreciate the time taken to go over the dishes and the sake pairing. Will be back for sure for this experience.

Stopped in for happy hour and was very pleased! Everything was so great, the flavors in the hand rolls were amazing. The different sauces lead to a great experience. Also the freshness of the salmon was spectacular. I was seated at the bar fairly quickly and I loved watching the chef build the rolls. It's a really cute set up as well

My partner and I came for a quick bite after having our main dinner at Half Shell across the street. What a dream come trueee. Food: (4/5) This was our second hand roll experience but our first time at Sugo. None of the sets were really catching my eye, so I decided on the salmon, spicy scallop, and torched unagi hand rolls. The salmon was easilyy the best out of the three, although they were all very good. I was absolutely in love with the fish to rice ratio AND that they use seaweed to close the other end. The last place I went to didn't do that so everything was falling out- great attention to detail. My partner got the 4 piece set with an additional otoro hand roll. The one bite I had of it was truly melt-in-your-mouth. Service: (5/5) There's truly nothing else to say other than that they do a wonderful job here being attentive to all their diners!

@sugohandrollbar came thru with last minute omakase + sake pairing request for their 8pm seating. Rachel their social media manager reached out after I submitted an inquiry for last minute openings. The host was welcoming at check in, and knew exactly what was discussed when making the reservations (us visiting from San Diego, and inquired more to engage with us) The ambiance is intimate and fun. Our experience from beginning to end was definitely elevated & one for the books. The sake pairings complimented the nigiri so well. The chef and team executed the flavor profiles perfectly. Thank you chef @hannoxp for the hospitality and sharing your knowledge and recs.

pros: good quality food cons: interesting service, cramped seating My friend and I had a reservation and people who were seated 15 minutes after us were asked for their order and served first. It was nice of the sushi chef to check in on my dietary restrictions before making my rolls. We had to wait a bit for the waiter to take our order and wait again to flag down a waiter for the check (We're okay with waiting but we tried to get their attention twice and it was awkward with us just trying to leave atp). Also the seating at the bar is wayy too close, you don't even have room to put both your elbows on the table (not that that is how you eat hand rolls). Felt like everyone was on a date together !!

Ikura Hand Roll
Chantal T.

Great deals for happy hour! We got miso soup, calamari, and all the kinds of hand rolls except for the tofu and eggplant. Miso soup and calamari were great and the best hand roll is the King Salmon. Hand rolls can just take a while if it's busy since there's only one person making them. Would definitely come back again.

Are they only Omakase? And would a person with a shell fish allergy be able to enjoy food items there?

Moonraker was one of the rolls we got. I highly recommend it! In addition to that we got an order of the Spicy Tofu... again delicious and made an excellent side with our sushi! I got a hard alcohol I wasn't used to getting. It was fun and it was quite good! It was Shochu which is a distilled beverage and involves sweet potato. If memory serves I got the one with sweet potato and pear. Very different but very good. It had a nice dryness to it. To wrap it all up we got some deep fried mochi ice cream. It held up nicely to being a great finish to a very high quality meal. We are definitely coming back!

The service is good, nothing over the top, but nothing that anyone should complain about. It has a intimate feel like the restaurants you would find in Japan, but individual tables. It's great for parties that are less than 4. For appetizers, I always get the seaweed salad, edamame, and karage, cant go wrong with these, they're hard to get wrong and will pop out pretty quickly.
