It was soggy.. too thin for french toast.. simply not appetizing. It was a little over $10 with tax and tip included... My friends had a tuna melt and a BLT.. comes with fries.. it was okay.. but I dont think this restaurant is worth the try.. if you're in the neighborhood, just drive a little and go to Bruxie instead or something. Location: in an industrial complex, seems out of place and the parking can be hard to find. Inside: small and cozy. Chairs and decor are so-so. Staff: The service is pretty good and the servers are friendly. Family owned place and the owner seems like a genuinely nice person. Food: The only "killer" dish here is the french toast which, if you have a sweet tooth, is pretty great. The candied banana slices are very good, and they use sliced fresh strawberries with them as toppers on a french toast that is smothered with home-made syrup. No wonder this place is called Sugar Rush Cafe :-) If they used a little bit thicker sliced bread, a touch more vanilla and a slightly thicker syrup then it would have been closer to perfect. Sugar Rush is my go to restaurant whenever I'm meeting up with old friends in the Walnut area. It's located in a really industrial location on Valley about 2 minutes past the PetSmart/Village area. The cafe itself is pretty small, so if you're here during prime brunch hours, be prepared to wait a little. I recommend arriving early just so you can get a seat. The service is hit or miss but we usually never have a problem. For the past 4 years that I've been coming here, there really is no difference with the food for me. I'm a big fan of the Sugar Rush French Toast (mmm!!!) but beware of the Pancake Sandwich which really isn't a sandwich, but rather 2 pancakes with your options of other breakfast choices in between. From what I hear, the coffee is pretty good too. If you're looking for a nice breakfast spot in the area, I'd definitely recommend coming here, considering there aren't that many choices in the Walnut area other than Panera Bread or Millie's. read more

You would never expect a place like this to be here, but it is. They have a good chicken sammy with garlic spinach. I remember coming here after mt sac for a nice coffee and some food. the owners were alwasy so nice to all the customers. i really went out of my way to come here. i havent been back lately, but the food is worth a try. so get away from the grand mcdonalds and drive down for some quality food. read more

I LOVE Sugar Rush Cafe!!!!! I kept wanting to go here after reading about it on Yelp. Boy was I blown away!!! This is officially my favorite lunch cafe/breakfast place in this area. The food is great! I got the Chicken Spinach Melt (not sure about the name) with Yukon Gold fries. It was amazing. The fries tasted so fresh and potato-ey. The chicken was so juicy and tasty. My boyfriend got the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast, which was just as good too. Also, the service was excellent when I came. They kept checking back to make sure everything was okay, how things tasted, if we needed water, etc. Our dishes came out at different times, but the server kept us updated which was nice. We also tried the americano (good! no bitter aftertaste), and the iced chai latte w/ soy (great!!!!! yummmm). Our server was so incredibly nice. I was so impressed. Stopped in for breakfast with my fiance. I was surprised, for a Saturday in an industrial park there were quite a few people there. The atmosphere was light and airy. The walls were yellow painted brick with black matted ceiling and exposed air ducts. The decor was minimal with scattered tables and small bamboo wrapped chairs (a bit small for my large backside). Fortunately, there was a nice wall mounted padded bench and tables in the back. They also had some nice comfy leather couch style seats around a coffee table full of magazines. There was a nice assortment of coffee and tea drinks and the foam work on the coffee was artistic. The portion sizes were large in comparison to the cost of the meal. I had the breakfast wrap and Lindsay had the 3 egg omelet with mushrooms, bacon and Swiss. Both meals came with a generous portion of hash browns and toast. Sugar Rush staff were all polite and courteous. They cared about their coffee like I care about my food, and that says quite a bit about Sugar Rush Cafe. Very nice brunch place in the middle of no where. lolz! It's a small cafe with very good breakfast items. It has free wi-fi and magazines. I had an omlete with my choice of 3 ingrediens, which came with a side of yummy crunchy hash and a basket of toast. Had a bite of their spanich chicken sandwich as well, and I'll be ordering that the next time I visit. =) For dessert, (haha, yes, even at brunch) I tried their famous rasin french toast with strawberries and candied bananas. It's tough to find a cafe in Walnut that has good coffee and a decent breakfast. Don't get me wrong, this area is full of great Asian cafes serving creamy tapioca drinks and free wi-fi, and let's not forget the ubiquitous Starbucks. But I wanted a true cup of joe and eggs to go along with it. So after enduring IHOP for months whenever the craving for pancakes hit, I began a mission to hunt down a Berkeley-type-cafe to call my very own. Along came Sugar Rush with it's chemex brewed Intelligentsia coffee, perfectly cooked eggs, fluffy pancakes, and let's not forget the sweet, goodness of the carmelized banana syrup. The hash browns come out nicely browned and crispy and the omelets are really meant to satisfy professional NFL players. Sadly I'm not a huge fan of the sandwiches or salads, but the fries and homemade chips are definitely good. Service is hilarious with Obi at the helm but be prepared for a little slower service if the place is busy. I just sit back, sip a strong cup of Peruvian coffee, and enjoy the lovely Sunday. read more

After looking on yelp for a good breakfast place I noticed Sugar Rush Cafe. Its right down the street from my house but never paid attention to it because its just thrown in an industrial business area. Anyways I went with my 2 year old and my best friend. It saysits good for children which leads to my only dissappointment...no high chairs!!!! no high chairs or booster chairs. I dont blame them really its more of a coffee shop rather then a restaurant. Which is another reason its not great for kids ( i would say kids under 7ish) when we walked in 3 people where working on their laptops and it was super quiet...my 2 year old is not super quiet though so i felt bad. I ordered the 3 egg omelet with Mushroom, Cheese and Spinach- really good..the cheese looked like a kraft cheese slice so that was the only iffy part. My best friend ordered the Chicken Spinach Melt. with fries. No Complaints from him at all. Luckily for us, they just started opening on Sundays, since last week! My friend and I came here for lunch today and it was delightful. Sugar Rush Cafe is such a cute place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. ATMOSPHERE This place is definitely a hidden gem. It sticks out like a sore thumb because it's located in an industrial park. I was surprised that the cafe was full of customers. The crowd was pretty young (most people looked like they were students or locals) and the servers were also young. The service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. They have free wi-fi and many people were using laptops while sipping on their coffee. There are a few paintings inside and the walls are brightly colored. It's definitely a quiet hang out spot/study spot. If I went to school nearby, I'd probably frequent this place a lot. FOOD We ordered: 1) Bacon avocado burger with chips 2) Spinach chicken melt with fries My friend ordered the bacon avocado burger and it came with a pickle slice and a lot of chips (the chips took up half the plate). They were very generous with the avocado and bacon. The lettuce and tomato looked very crisp and fresh. My friend enjoyed the burger very much. I ordered the spinach and chicken melt, which was delicious. It came with toasted bread, melted provolone, two generous pieces of chicken breast, juicy tomato slices, and warm spinach. It also came with a side of golden fries. I appreciated how consistent the fries were; all of them were crispy and none of them were soggy. The sandwich itself was very flavorful and I felt healthy because none of it seemed fried. The only problem was that there was a lot of juice and it was a pretty messy sandwich, but that didn't stop me from devouring as much as I could (which was only half of the sandwich). The meal was extremely filling. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I didn't get a chance to try the coffee, which I hear is excellent. I also have yet to try their french toast (I'm not a breakfast person). I'll give this place another review once I go back and order a cup of their Intelligentsia coffee and a side of french toast. My mom and I have been dying for a breakfast place in our area, so i found this and we decided to give it a go. It's in a strange area but the place itself is nice, small but nice. The menu doesn't have a whole lot of selections, but we decided to try the french toast and the breakfast wrap. both were good! though the hashbrowns could've used some more seasoning. I really enjoy their selection of organic teas. Their grilled cheese sandwich is mediocre but how great can a grilled cheese sandwich get? My friend really enjoys their cobb salad. The location is kinda awkward because if you blink I swear you'll miss it! I've also had their omelet [the pick 3?!] at which I got tomatoes, spinach, onions, mushroom, and provolone cheese. I was hoping that the cheese would be melting into the omelet but it was placed directly on top. I felt the need to add ketchup and hot sauce but my taste buds are probably dead from all the hot sauce I use. The hash browns were tasty and they gave me a choice of sourdough, white, or wheat. wheat ftw! Why 4 stars? Well along with their teas and coffees... their service is absolutely superb! Overall this place is good, I think my situation just made it more on the "okay" side. My co-workers and I decided that after reading yelp reviews we would order lunch to go one day. I was the one sent to pick it up, and I wish there was better parking, but that would never cause me to leave a lower rating. Cute on the inside, small but very cute. The staff was very friendly and our food was already done: perfect. Once I got back to the office however, we were all a tad bummed out. One of my co-workers got the french toast which she stated was so-so, but also said that she was sure it would taste better fresh. I got a sandwich which was good, but the bread had already gotten soggy so that was a downer. My other co-worker didn't really care for her sandwich at all, so that was a bummer. I think if I was ever to come back, it would definitely need to be a sit in scenario, because our office is not far but the food was cold and soggy by the time I got it to us. MMM. Bacon is delicious. It's definitely not a dinky Mcdonald's bacon! If you want good bacon, go here. Hot Mocha is delicious, and the cute leaf was a nice touch. The cinnamon raisin french toast is good with a sweetness that isn't too much, but just right. The syrup is light and less viscous than maple syrup. Sugar Rush puts syrup on your french toast before it reaches your table, so if you want to keep the sugar intake to a minimum, you can probably ask for it on the side and pour it yourself. As for the service, it seemed a little understaffed the morning I came, but the employees work hard to serve you as fast as they can. read more

We came here for brunch ( a party of 4) and I ordered a three egg omelet and my friends ordered the chicken melt and roast beef sandwich. The portions were pretty big but my omelet was very dry. The hash potatoes were very soggy and oily. The sandwiches were average- nothing special, but definitely it wasn't worth that price. The thing about this place now is that it seems to lack the quiet, non-chalant, and small cafe ambience. That's what I appreciated about the little corner cafe. I liked their chicken sandwich, intelligensia coffee, and wireless internet. But now, it feels like a restaurant except that it still has the same small menu. If it is going to be a small restaurant, the menu needs to improve with boba drinks (yes, Asian taste) and entrees. It is located in Walnut, around a few warehouses, but do not be fooled by the location: this place is truly an one in a kind gem. It took a while to find, but with the help of a navigation system and Yelp, we were able to find it eventually. Immediately, one will notice the extraordinary amount of people waiting in line, a line that starts from the inside and snakes its way to the outside. There was a scarce amount of tables, so it was a bit expected. Then again, what good eatery does not have a line of eager guests waiting to savor such a fine selection of foods? There are plenty of choices of items to choose from, ranging from well made omelets that were full to the brim with various fresh ingredients. I decided to choose one of the delicious and juicy sandwiches. The complimentary bread was hot to the touch and went well with the fresh jams that were available. The BLT sandwich was delectable with plenty of ripe avocados and crunchy pieces of bacon smacked in between two slices of crispy bread. The omelets were abundant with ingredients, while the eggs were delicious and definitely not from a container. The mocha I ordered was one of the best coffees I have tried, a perfect split between chocolate and coffee beans. The owner introduced herself to us and we had a great talk. She was full of enthusiasm and invited us to come again and try something different from the menu, something we will definitely consider in the future. I've heard good things about their coffee and food so why not since I'm around the area. It's true when others call it a hole in the wall since it's just this tiny eatery tucked inside an empty looking business plaza. I ordered the albacore tuna sandwich which came with , you guessed it, butter lettuce. Butter lettuce to me makes the perfect sandwich because it doesn't make the sandwich watery like romaine or iceburg lettuce. It's delicious. I also ordered the Vanilla latte. The tuna salad was yummy and refreshing. It has a nice lemony taste to it, not briny like other tuna sandwich that use relish. The fries were yummy and came in a giant portion. The vanilla latte was delicious and made my tummy all warm and cozy whislist in the crappy weather. The only thing I would change is the prices. I know it costs more to get quality ingredients for food but as a college student, this was a bit pricey. It ended up being $15 (plus tip) just for myself. If you're not too big of a breakfast person, you can order items on the side. I highly recommend their breakfast sausages !! My boyfriend liked their Belgium waffle, but I'm still waiting to try their special candied syrup . I would say though, we've ordered this more than once and it's not always consistent. There was only 1 waitress who did fine serving me, but I can see how service will decline if it got any busier with no extra help.
