Our waitress had the perfect cocktail recommendations for each of our individual preferences. A few girls were picky eaters and left the restaurant raving about how delicious it was and both tried new things! I had been meaning to visit for a while, based on friends' rave reviews about the place. Finally got a res during lucky hour on a Sunday night, and we found a (free) street parking spot right out front. They have a parking lot, but it was full when we arrived on a Sunday night at 5:30p. Kelly was our server, and she was great. Super helpful and accommodating, really knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the my güey or the highway and luna sangre for drinks. We both liked our drinks, no complaints. For dinner, we made choices based off Kelly's recommendations, and they were great: ceviche de trucha, suadero tacos, flautas en mole negro, sweet papas. We wanted to get the barbacoa or carnitas as well, but we were so full by the end of our meal. The ceviche was AMAZING. Perfect flavor balance!! We loved everything about it. The ceviche was hands down our favorite item of the night. I don't like a lot of sweet with savory items, so I was hesitant about the apple and grapefruit pico. My hesitations washed away with the first bite. The pico was *so* lightly sweet, barely discernable with everything else, but enough to compliment the other flavors of the dish. Pico was really refreshing and diced so finely. And that carrot pepper broth.....I wanted to lick the blate clean. Suadero tacos came in very closely at second. So juicy, tender, flavor punches you in a good way. We ordered a half order at first, and we loved them so much that we ordered another half order. I love that they don't skimp on the guac! Flautas were good, but they were our least favorite dish of the night. This was my first time having mole, and I didn't know what to expect. I could tell the dish was prepared well, and I think I would've enjoyed the flautas more with a different sauce or if the mole had been served with something other than flautas. Everything together tasted too homogenous for me, and I think I needed more contrast in flavors to really enjoy the dish. Sweet papas were yummy. I liked the shaved crispy sweet potato that garnished the roasted sweet potatoes. Normally s crispy garnish also contrasts in flavor, but the double sweet potato worked really well. I came here with a larger group on a Saturday for a bachelorette party. The interior is so cute and Instagram worthy. It's well lit and has wood accents and boho vibes. This was overwhelmingly the favorite restaurant of the trip!! Every dish was delicious with large portions (yes everything is bigger in Texas). I had the Carnitas and the pork was CRUNCHY! The food and accoutrements were fresh and delicious. I also tried one of the Suadero Tacos which was also really good and had a lot of meat on them. For the amount of food we found the prices to be very reasonable! The interior was fairly spacious as well so I'd say this is a good place to come with groups as long as you have a resy. From the moment I walked into SUERTE, I was blown away by the aesthetic -- it's modern, warm, and beautifully designed with a Latin-inspired touch. The host was so friendly and welcoming, I was seated quickly and immediately felt at ease. My waitress, Ella, was absolutely incredible! She was attentive, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. I mentioned my dairy allergy, and she went above and beyond by creating a customized non-dairy menu for me. She walked me through several options with so much patience and care, which made the experience even more special. For food and drinks, I tried the tacos (delicious!) along with their take on an espresso martini and a fun frozen cocktail -- everything was amazing. I also got to sample the hash, which was fantastic. I kept seeing so many other great-looking dishes come out to nearby tables, so I already know I'll be back to try more. Honestly just save yourself the trip and go to a real taqueria, it was tasty but didn't deliver what the price indicated. It is near downtown and they are trying to gouge for Mexican food that is no better than your local taqueria. Overall it was good but I've had better at many other spots in town, the tacos come naked with no salsa while being priced at a premium level. The spicy habanero salsa was delicious and hot but you have to ask for it. They do have good drinks also but again at a premium price. The service was average for a restaurant and it is in a busy restaurant on east 6th. Bottom line is to go to an authentic spot nearby and have a better experience for a quarter the price. Austin has better to offer and you shouldn't judge the cuisine off this. read more

[It's like ordering fireworks and getting sparklers in the rain]....Unfortunately I walked out sad and disappointed from Suerte. It was in my list for about a year and finally we went and visited it. We started with the guacamole and it was a good and refreshing appetizer - but the manchego listed in the menu was not really present. Then came the suadero tacos (recommended by the server) and they were damn good, punch of flavor, and amazing products. But my tastebuds couldn't stop thinking about the mole that was coming - I'm a mole fan I've eaten several and I was dreaming about it... I went with my fork and put the first bite on my mouth and after the first dance, it felt like I was eating potato purée with dark chocolate sauce... It's like ordering fireworks and getting sparklers in the rain; well I ate it, and waited to close with the desert to move the needle back up... I ordered the tres leches (Dulce de leche pearls - yes please!)... first bite and my eyes went to find each other only to be stopped by my nose, a weird face on my wife's face as well, confused we went again .... Nope! This is no good! We put our spoons down and went: this is not good at all, some weird combination of flavors that made a retro taste very bitter ... very sad we called the waiter and order the check. Love love love coming here for the suadero tacos. IMHO, that's the main attraction. Everything else is absolutely solid as well. I did find a truck up in Cedar Park that does Suadero Tacos but Suerte just blows them out of the water!! Service is quick and professional. Ambiance is airy and not too crowded. Ambiance 10/10 Decent spot, but a bit overhyped in my opinion. After hearing so many friends rave about Suerte, I finally gave it a try for Saturday brunch. We were seated immediately, which was great, but overall, the experience didn't quite match the hype. The handmade corn tortillas were definitely fresh and chewy, but didn't feel significantly better than what I've had elsewhere. The Don Dario Margarita ($16) was interesting--definitely unique--but the flavor didn't really hit the mark for me. It might've been the tamarind or sarsaparilla, but it wasn't quite my taste. The Suadero Tacos ($24 for 4) were solid, with flavorful brisket and fresh guac, but the portion felt a bit small for the price. The "black magic oil" was good but not as life-changing as I expected from other reviews. Chilaquiles ($18) were okay--sauce was nice, but I wish it had more protein. Felt like it was missing something to make it truly satisfying. Banana Foster Puff Pastry ($8) was rich and buttery, a nice end to the meal, though a bit too sweet for my liking. The staff were polite and knowledgeable, and the interior is cute and well-designed. Overall, it's a nice place, but I'm not sure it's worth the price tag or the hype for a return visit. The patio was a great choice for our party of 3. The spirits list was extensive and I got to try some new agave spirits. I had a very disrespectful experience recently by a hostess (male) who said 1: no suadero tacos tonight and 2: no margaritas. The food was delicious here! A modern take on Mexican cuisine the aquachile rojo was my favorite bite of the night. It was light with a good kick to it. On top of that we got the taquitos and the chicken tacos. Again both were tasty but the taquitos edged out the tacos with the mole sauce. The chicken tacos were build it yourself so a half chicken came out and we cut it up and placed on a homemade tortilla. The downside of this dish was the rubbery chicken skin was not pleasant to eat or cut through. Our server was attentive and explained the menus and dishes to us. At the end, however there was a bit of confusion and she took our plates with a lot of chicken tacos left and didn't ask if we wanted it to go. That was a sad moment. This place is very popular and I felt like to fit as many people in they squished in as many tables as possible leaving little room between each. Food: The menu was simple and classic. We ordered the guacamole, carnitas tacos, quesadilla, caesar and the tres leches. The tres leches was by far the winner of the night. A close second was the carnitas tacos and the guac, which had just a little kick. The caesar didn't taste like a caesar but it was really good. The quesadilla was the one thing I could have gone without. It was not cheese forward which is a must for me. I also wanted a few more options for sides a little rice or bean would have been nice. I understand the elevated Mexican menu but some classics make the list, always, in my book. Staff: our group kept saying the staff were spicy. Our waitress and one of the hostesses were super sweet. There was also a male staff with pink hair. He redeemed our experience with the staff be sure there were two more that were curt and frankly a little rude. We left something behind in the restaurant and when we came back to try to find it we realized they cleared the table. One staff was dismissive when we asked and so we moved on to ask someone else. Had one of my favorite meals ever at Suerte this past weekend!!! WOW! Service was amazing - our waitress was super sweet and fun and repeatedly was one step ahead! They were also EXTREMELY celiacs friendly - bringing out a marked up menu and every different server that brought out food knew who at our table had restrictions. MUST GET THE TAMALES!!! WOW table favorite, as well as the tacos. Hands down the best corn tortillas I have ever had in my life. But everything we got was amazing. Incredible experience here-- such authentic food, and very different from what exists broadly in Austin today. Lots of vegetarian options, so easy to share the large portions among friends. The appetizers were honestly better than the entrees. Guac here is simply to die for. I got it without sesame seeds (I'm allergic), and it was still just as good (per others who have tried with and without). OH MY!! Hands down some of the freshest and unique Mexican food I've had in some time now!! My only regret was I couldn't eat more!! I made a reservation for one to ensure I wouldn't miss out on this experience since it was a weekend and I knew a big conference was happening nearby. I found parking close by at 6:30 on a Friday, so I was pleased about that, but I did have to drive around for a bit to figure it out. The hostess greeted me with a warm smile and quickly brought me to my spot at the bar. The staff behind the bar was knowledgeable and attentive just when it was needed. The place was bustling and it was entertaining to watch them whip up the cocktails while enjoyed my dinner. As for libations I opted to try two versions of mezcal. The Rosa Peligrosa: a stunningly deep pink cocktail made of mezcal, smoked rhubarb, dry vermouth, raspberry, hibiscus, lime, and egg white shaken to form a thick foam, and the Soraya: a take on an old fashioned with mezcal, tequila blanco, sweet vermouth, amaro, chile morita, chocolate mole bitters. Both were beautifully crafted with care and the flavors were amazing! It was a sipping pleasure for sure! For dinner, it was a hard decision to make as I wanted to try so many of the options available but opted for things that seemed the most unique to me which were the TUNA TIRADITO: big eye tuna, burnt habanero-apple salsa, suerte pico, candied chiles and the TLAYUDA DE HONGOS: white bean aligot, oak grilled mushrooms, pickled fennel, toasted pepitas, fried allium. Both were outstanding! Fresh, wonder mix of flavors and that MASA! (mind blown). OK OK, if I had to say one 'thing' - maybe less of the sauce on the Tuna - but let's be real - it was so good! I didn't have any room left, but did take home some flan for later and it too was fabulous! Truly - a delightful date for me and my tastebuds! Attentive, ensured we knew her name immediately, and offered all the great insights. She wasn't pushy when we didn't over order (I hate wasting food and I just don't eat a ton) and the drinks were ON POINT! We did a bean and tostada appetizer which definitely had a bit more of a kick than expecting but phenomenal! The ceviche with the ginger and apples was perfectly balanced. And their staple tacos (again sorry I don't remember the name) was melt in your mouth!!! I wouldn't say the ambiance was anything to write home about and I thought my friend was going to bump his head on the large protruding picture frame at the small table lol but it wasn't bad either. The flavors are on par (dare I say better???) than most joints in San Diego. If you are not a local, sit at the bar for the most interactive experience. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and brisket tacos. The brisket tacos definitely came through in a meaty rich flavor, and I was told they were made by an award-winning chef. Fun upscale ambiance. Sat outside in the side patio where the entrance is separate from the actual restaurant and it definitely was not as nice as the inside. But it was a lot quieter which I liked so I could hear my conversation better. Got three entrees, one ceviche and dessert which was a little too much food for the two of us but I'm glad I got to try everything. My top favorites were tuna ceviche w tostada (must get--the mole sauce was truly amazing), suadero tacos, and pollo in the red sauce with nopales that I put on everything else bc it was delicious and spicy. I would buy jars of the red sauce. The carnitas was cooked perfectly with some crispy edges and the pickled vegetables it came with were perfectly vinegary. The warm masa tortillas that they make in house were perfect. Service was fantastic. Unpopular opinion but the peach tres leches cake that had small caramel like crunch balls on it was a 2/5 for me. If I could give a 4.5 star review I would--we absolutely loved this place. My party (6 of us) and I were celebrating my wife's birthday. Reservations were made 2-3 weeks in advance (highly recommended). Parking is not too tricky--if you're lucky enough you'll get a spot in their parking lot. If you're not that lucky there is a garage across the street from the restaurant that they will validate the majority of the cost (paid $5 for 2-3 hours of parking), just be sure to mention it to the host on your way out. The loss of the .5 star is because of the unfriendliness of our server throughout the meal. We all have our bad/more serious days, but it was unfortunate that our party, in celebration mode, received very flat and unwelcoming service. I don't remember the server's name, but he had a crazy mustache, maybe that'll give him away. Anyway, just wish we felt greater hospitality on such a special night. We'd heard so much about the food here, and we can confirm the food is absolutely delicious. A Family-style meal is what you're walking into, so we ordered a number of dishes all at once. The appetizers we ordered included the: Frijoles Envenenados, Tuna Tiradito, and the Guacamole. For our entrees we ordered the: Suadero Tacos, Carnitas, Barbacoa, Sweet Papas, and Broccoli Asados Our favorites and recommendations would be....all of the above!!!! So delicious, the meat was tender and juicy, the presentation was very impressive and the flavors were incredible. I won't bore everyone with a description of each dish, you'll just have to try it yourself! To drink I had the Don Dario, it was fresh and also delicious, would recommend it. I have always heard rave reviews of Suerte and I am so glad I was able to dine in and confirm that the hype is real. The reservations fill up quickly, especially for a weekend so prepare ahead of time. My sister and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and ordered off the brunch menu. We started with the Tuna Tiradito, and then the Sweet Papas. For entrees, we got the Brisket Hash and the Suadero Tacos. The Tuna Tiradito was delicious - fresh fish and the broth was sooo good. The "chip" is one large chip that seems handmade and then you break it apart. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I am not really a big fan of sweet potatoes but this dish was pretty good. There was a kick toward the end of each bite but I think if you are a sweet potato fan, this would be a great dish. The Brisket Hash was my favorite dish of this meal. The brisket was tender and I enjoyed the little bits of the pork belly/bacon. The dish is bursting with flavor and it is just so good. The Suadero Tacos seem to be what they are known for and for good reason. It is a simple taco with brisket and guac but it is made so well.
