I always say its kind of hard to rate chains, but for some reason every subway ive been to has been different from the others in at least one way. First off I like this place because it's open 24 hours, food really close to me and great if i'm not trying to eat junk food at the 24 hour carls jr. Good for a late night snack or even drunken munchies. HEADS UP!!!! I do not condone drinking and driving, but if you must be careful because cops come to subway in the wee hours of the night and they also park their cars at the bank across the plaza or hang out at the chevron on the corner.... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Anyways, the kind of service you receive from the employees definitely depends on which one you get. lol Luck of the draw. Some people will make your sub exactly the way you want it, making it look like the most scrumtious thing there. Others will completely jack up your sub like it look like they added grenades with the tomatoes, then after they blew up they stomped on it. Like I said its def the luck of the draw here, some employees take customer service serious, and others are F it, never really seen anything in between the two. Veggies seem fresh, cant tell too much, chicken and other meats are decent. Meatball marinara...ehhhh I usually really like this one but dont get it here, because somehow they always F it up...I mean really? meatball sauce cheese.....how do you mess that up??? I didn't think you could make a bad meatball sub, but I guess I've been proven wrong. I mean, it only has 4 things in it - bread, meatballs, marinara, cheese. Really, you can screw that up? To her credit though, the sandwich-maker was very nice. She asked if I wanted it toasted (yes), and if I wanted parmesan cheese (sure, why not). Unfortunately, it came out tasting a little more burned than toasted. The meatballs were just okay. But the marinara was good! Overall though, it wasn't a terribly satisfying dinner. I have been here 3 times this past year and each time the food is freezer burnt!! I mention this and they laugh and stare at me like it takes a genius to tell them to turn down the thermostat? !! They admit ice all over is not normal, but ignorant attitudes. buckets of green tomatoes=stomach ache and diarrhea! News flash, if tomatoes aren't ripe yet you don't put them in a cooler! Wow, talk about mixed reviews! Most of those one-stars seem like they were from a few years ago, so maybe the management has switched over since then? Anyways here is my take on this particular location: It's a Subway, and I'm sure if you're reading this you've been to a Subway before. The workers at any sort of fast-food joint usually aren't too cheerful, but I've never had a straight-up problem with any of the employees here. If I worked at Subway, I wouldn't be too happy either. But here's what earns this Subway a sparkling 5 stars: IT'S OPEN TWENTY-FOUR HOURS. IN IRVINE. The boring-est city where NOTHING is open late, let alone 24 hours. And it's the only 24/7 Subway I've ever seen. Good for me because I don't like filling my stomach with grease late at night and love me my subby subs. Not only that, it also has a lovely little patio for my dining pleasure and is located in a good sized shopping center with other restaurants and a Rite Aid & Wholesome Choice, so I can run errands before or after my meal if I wish. Y'all need to stop hating on this place! It's open 24/7, and the guys who work there late at night are extremely friendly, partially because they're entertained by the drunk customers or the students who are cracked out from studying until 3 am. What's even better is that they have PESTO and amazing OMEGA-3 bread (I could eat this by itself)! Be smart and just stick to turkey or ham for the meat selection, because everything else is rather fake tasting. They also have a nice variety of kettle, baked, and new flavor chips. I was having a bad night and I was hungry and decided to pull up at a subway and thankfully I did. My own mood changed after my meal. Headed to the gym with a positive attitude and came home. The portions here suck! I got the meatball marina, the amount of meatballs in the sandwich were okay BUT when it came to putting the other ingredients they were so STINGY! Maybe it's because they were near UCI and they were expecting a big rush later...but still! I had to ask for EXTRA lettuce and tomatoes and when she grabbed the tomatoes she grabbed ONE SLICE -______- are you serious man? Service sucked too, went back up to the register to get a cup of water and I ended up waiting about ten minutes for a cup of water. The two employees were just chilling in the back of the store, it was not until the store got crowded that they came out. I understand if a employee wants to take a break, but there should at least be one employee at the register. A customer should not wait ten minutes just to get a cup. Got the $5 footlong which is usually a good deal but at this place it was meh. I don't know why this place gets slammed so hard on Yelp. The staff has always been crazy-nice to me (they hand me free cookies like they're going out of style, ask after my girlfriend, etc), and they make a good sandwich. Yet for some reason I have seen, at this location more than anywhere else I've ever eaten, the employees get abused by customers in awful ways. It's very strange. Anyway, if you've eaten at Subway, you know what you're getting here food-wise--it's no different than any other location (besides the location on the UCI campus, which puts double meat on like every sub because their employees are college kids who DO NOT CARE ABOUT PROFIT MARGINS WOOHOO). My fiance and I went in to get 2 simple sandwiches at 11pmish tonight. The employees name was "Jason", or at least that is what the receipt says. He was very stand-off-ish from the start and was assembling the sandwiches with a very sloppy and angry attitude. Literally slapping cheese and crap on. He barely even prompted us for the next step in the process, just set there and kind of expected us to know what he was hinting at. Half way through another employee came through late for his shift and I guess that's what he was so upset about. Pro: open 24/7 perfect for a person like me who always get hungry around midnight. Also conveniently near my house! Con: They tend to be stingy on whatever it is you choose to have put on your subway. They barely put on the sauces I choose, even lettuces, or other stuffings. If I could give 0 stars I would. Both employees including a bald guy with a black shirt who I'm assuming is the manager had really red eyes and were high. The customer service was so crap and we've never been treated so rude. Not only did both of them have red eyes, but they couldn't even form sentences properly. He kept stumbling on his words and the manager couldn't even work a register.... he tried to charge us $12 dollars for a simple footlong and once he rang us up he just shoved the sandwich to the front of the register. I've been to subway maybe 10000 times. This one is fantastic!! It's the best one. Shoutout to Paulina and especially Fernando working the late shift. Worst Subway I've been to. We got here at 11:50PM and ordered 3 footlongs because of the deal that said 3 for $18. Kofi took our order and I have never seen such a slow worker. I don't understand how someone that slow even works. He took 15 minutes to make 3 sandwiches when a normal employee makes it under 5. He really switched his gloves every single time he made a new sandwich. Because he took so long, we couldn't get the deal because it was past 12AM (the deal doesn't even say that it doesn't work after 12am, just after 3pm). He mixed up my sandwich with my friend's. Like what. It's in order of how we're standing. And hear this, I clearly asked for CILANTRO and he almost put SRIRACHA on my sandwich if I hadn't immediately stopped him. I went in and was greeted by a nice worker, got my tuna sandwich to-go as always and left. It was just like any other Subway, except this location is a bit small. I've been to this location a few times and I really don't like their service. Their employees always seem like they don't want to serve customers. Especially when I visited this evening, the server didn't even greet me back when I greeted him first (he even looked annoyed that I was there right before his leaving) and when I handed him my credit card to pay, after running it he threw my card in the air so it would drop on the counter top. I have always had a great experience and a great lunch at this Subway. I'm a regular there and they are always willing to make me a great chopped salad, just the way I like it. The staff are always friendly, and move efficiently through the lunch rush. It has always been clean, and the food items are always fresh. Pretty standard subway experience. The customer service is pretty good, they rip through the line quickly, and it's pretty clean. There is a lot of room to eat outside. They also give away a free cookie on Tuesdays. If you have never had a subway cookie it's worth going just for that. For some reason subway cookies are amazing! read more
