    Half Soy Garlic Chicken (Half)
    Kat S.

If you want fresh and hot chicken, this place never disappoints. I always get the soy garlic flavor and it's seriously so good. There's usually a bit of a wait, but honestly I don't mind because they cook the chicken fresh once you order. You can really tell the difference, and I'd say it's definitely worth waiting a few extra minutes for.

They have a mix menu from fried chicken itself, to the box set and croissant sandwich. I got the box set and the croissant sando and both were just average. The chicken itself were crispy, but no special flavoring. The croissant sando comes with thick slices of pickles which did not compliment too well with the chicken taste. The box set had a good variety of rice, salad, soup and a brownie but each item was also average in taste. The inside was small, limited seating but it doesn't get too busy as most people do take out. It's a self serve utensil station. Parking in this plaza can be limited too depending when you come. Staff were friendly and helpful! Only one making the food and taking orders on a busy Saturday lunch time so be prepared to wait. Overall, given the variety of options for korean fried chicken in Irvine, the taste just fell under the mark.

Taken November 2020 Original furai chicken: Very crispy and delicious fresh! Probably one of the crispiest fried chicken I've had! I tried reheating it the next day and it's not the same. Just eat it all at once! Sweet & spicy: Sooo good! I thought I wouldn't like this because it's kind of basic but there's an extra something in here that makes it different. Lemon garlic: Really strong garlic flavor. I really could not taste much lemon if at all. Smoke soy: It's indeed has a smoked soy flavor. It's good at first but after I while I got sick of it. Furai rice cake skewers: Nice and toasty on the outside and chewy on the inside. Pretty good w the dipping sauces as well.

Furai is one of my go-to spots for fried chicken in Irvine. I usually do takeout, and even after the drive home, the chicken stays impressively crispy. My boyfriend and I typically split a whole chicken; half original and half sauced. Our current favorite is the soy garlic. I really appreciate the extras they include: fresh jalapeños, a generous portion of pickled radish, and a dipping sauce on the side. We recently tried the Kajung sauce, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste, and that's saying something because I usually love anything sweet. As for the fried potato wedges, I wish they were a bit crispier, but I do like that they're included for variety. Overall, Furai hits the spot when you're craving Korean-style fried chicken with solid flavors and good portions.

We got the chicken to go and it was so yummy!!! They put rice cakes on top of the chicken. I just felt like the chicken was falling off the bones and they have such a good variety of sauce.

    $1.50 Bleu Cheese side

I really dislike cheap, nickel and dime places like this. I paid over $100 for 40 wings and selected four wing flavors. On top of that, I paid $3.50 for two extra sides of blue cheese. What I received were two half full ramekins of runny, warm blue cheese. When I called the restaurant to complain, I was told that blue cheese and ranch count as a wing sauce. So apparently when I ordered extra blue cheese, I was not getting extra at all. I was just ordering blue cheese as one of the sauces. Paying over $100 for 40 wings that come with no dipping sauce is ridiculous. To make it worse, the woman on the phone was rude and dismissive. Trying to get a straight answer from her was like pulling teeth. Places like this feel soulless and cheap, and it makes you wonder why anyone gets into the food business if they are going to cut corners and treat customers this way. This type of penny pinching approach turns customers away and guarantees I will not be returning.

Boneless Chicken Meal Box (sweet and spicy sauce on side)

inside was a bit small but it had a good amount of seating. worker was kind and food came out pretty quick. boneless chicken bento (3/5) - the chicken was perfectly crispy and not too dry. i got the sweet and spicy sauce on the side, very solid flavor!! sadly, the rest of the box was very underwhelming. the miso soup, potato salad, and rice all had an odd plastic flavor to them so i ended up throwing it away. i'd definitely just get an order of the chicken on its own next time. spicy croissant sandwich (4/5) - this was really good! mild had good flavor without being overly spicy. the side of slaw was also really good.

    Kang Jung Chicken (Half)
    Austin M.

Furai is a must-try. The chicken comes out super crispy and perfectly seasoned every time. I like to order mine with the sauce on the side so the breading stays crunchy throughout the meal. While the inside is a bit small, the great flavor and quick service keep me coming back. Definitely one of my favorite fried chicken stops.

    20 Wings

Y'all almost lost me with that 20-minute wait for 20 wings, but then you brought the crispy, steamy magic and turned my frown upside down. Seriously, the hot steam from the first few bites was so intense, it felt like I was walking into a sauna just to get my chicken fix. But let me tell you, it was worth it. The wings were so fresh and hot, I had to eat the wings with my mouth open, just to cool them down. Hands down, the freshest and crispiest fried chicken in OC. Now, about those sauces: they served everything on the side, which I thought was a little weird at first, because most KFC places have it lathered on the chicken. My man had the Garlic Jam. Sweet, garlicky, no heat--9/10. The Favorite Daughter (shhh, don't tell the others) went with Sweet & Spicy. She liked it but it was more sweet than spicy--9/10. Me? Mango Habanero. Let me tell you, I couldn't taste the habanero at all, so I went full savage mode with some ghost pepper seasoning. Double dunk, baby. 10/10. Would cry tears of joy into those wings again. Worth the wait. I would definitely recommend eating there to get the full hot experience. You won't regret it.

    1/2 Kang Jung Chicken
    Molly J.

Chicken was amazing, I think a lot better than a lot of the bbq chickens. The Kang Jung was flavorful and loved the little pieces of rice cakes in there. I absolutely loved the flavor the soy garlic, it was just so tiny in comparison to the Kang Jung. It almost felt like they forgot some pieces. They both came with potato wedges which also was a nice touch. The cucumber salad was a fail. I was expecting a nice refreshing fresh cucumber salad but it seemed like they got the sweet deli pickles from the grocery store and marinated it with some sesame oil or something. It was also super overpriced for that tiny cucumber salad. That's why I'm giving it a 4/5, because of the soy garlic chicken portion and the cucumber salad.

    Natasha R.

Excellent Korean fried chicken. A litttle on the pricier side but totally worth it . The bone in chicken is halal as confirmed by the owner herself. The sauces that come with it are amazing too. The service is good and the place has decent area To sit.

    Are they open during covid?

    Yeah they are!

    Is this location closed?

It is inside Zion market. Opens at 11am. I suggest you order by phone first to pickup.

    Do they do delivery?

    Yes

    Do they sell rice?

No. They have sides...pickled jalapeños and daikon.

Is the fried chicken batter gluten free?

Doubt it. Korean folks don't concern themselves with things like that...

    Do they sell beer?

No, but you can pick some up in the market since this place is located inside Zion Market.

    Do they have seaweed soup?

This is mainly a fried chicken joint. I don't recall seeing seaweed soup on their menu.

Now there are multiple locations, but OC's very own is right here! It's near 4th St, so there's plenty to do to work up an appetite too! Walking into the restaurant, you're greeted with some adorable decor, with nice little booths to sit your tush down at. They've got a tiny menu, so don't take too long to order! After all, you're really here for only a few things! To start, we got some fried pickles to snack on! Careful, these come out HOT HOT HOT, but they're the perfect texture and flavor, especially paired with that ranch. Crunchy, acidic, and making you want more! And more we got, with this classic combo, a 3 piece dark. Now it comes in dark or white or both, so you can choose what you like, but that juicy dark meat is just how WE like it. Mmm, look at that texture. Look at the give. Look at that amazing cripy shardy crunch. Yes yes yes. And that's not all. They've got sides to choose too. Baked beans and slaw. Perfect accompaniments, because you're gonna want something creamy, like those beans, and more fresh, like that slaw. We also got a mac and cheese to share, and it's that classic inoffensive and gooey southern mac that people love, including us!

Loved how comfortable the restaurant felt. We started with the deep fried green tomatoes which were perfect. The batter was crispy and flavorful and the ratio of green tomatoes was perfect. We got the 8 piece fried chicken mix, Mac and cheese and Cole slaw. The mac was not that good, very Kraft like and the cheese on top didn't really melt. Coleslaw I liked, it was like KFCs if you like the sweet, creamy kind. Now the chicken, it was perfect. Perfectly crispy and the meat was so moist. The batter wasn't too thick and the seasoning was perfect. Service here was excellent as well and we were really taken care of. We will definitely be back!

There is a good sized parking lot behind the restaurant. The ordering counter is on the front side of the building. Once parked, you can either walk around the building, or walk through the open-air covered patio. I walked around to get a closer look at the unique chicken-head Beatles' Abbey Road mural on the side of the building. The menu is obviously chicken-focused, and features various sandwiches, wraps, and salads, along with several sides. They also have a small breakfast menu served until noon on the weekend. After ordering, they will give you a number and bring your food when it's ready. I really enjoyed the dining area, which is a covered, open-air space with a high ceiling. I sat in one of the booths towards the front. Each booth has a classic painting on the wall with chicken heads on it. There are also many different types of tables thoughout, and more seating upstairs on the second floor. There is also additional seating in front of their full bar. I had the Coop Deville sandwich (fried breast, pickled fresno chiles, pickles, napa cabbage, lime mayo, artisan brioche bun, $14.50). The chicken breast was thick and piping hot, and had a great crunchy crust on it. All of the ingredients went together well and I loved the flavor. The bun was very fresh, and the sandwich wasn't as messy as I thought it might be. I was still a little hungry, so I went back and ordered the regular sized hand cut fries (regular size $4.50, large size $7.50). They are tossed in schmaltz (chicken fat) and a light dusting of spices. They were hot and fresh, and the regular size was way more than I could eat by myself. They have a self-serve sauce bar with five options on tap including ketchup, Srirarcha T000 Island, Sweet Baby G's BBQ, ranch, and pineapple mustard. I dipped my sandwich in the BBQ and Srirarcha Thousand Island, and my fries in the BBQ, ranch, and pineapple mustard. They have a cornhole game towards the back, are dog friendly, and host trivia night on Thursdays. I enjoyed the food and atmosphere, and would definitely return.

The staff were super friendly and on point The Food: (A word on heat. They have 6 levels from Country with none to Howlin. We can take a decent amount of heat. I went medium and my son went hot. The medium was just the right balance with a nice burn especially on the back end. The next level, hot, was also really good and hit close to our limit) The Sando: a nice sized chicken breast perfectly fried. The chicken was moist but well cooked and the batter was seasoned perfectly. The slaw added a nice crunch to things, the comeback sauce added richness and the pickles added a brinney crunch to offset the goodness. The bun put up a valiant effort but about of the way through it gave up and the Sando became a fork affair. The Slaw: It was just okay, on the sando it was perfect, on its own, just okay The Macaroni Salad: Glorious, simply glorious. Whatever spicing they were using with the fries seemed evident here giving it a reddish hue. The the bits of dill, onions, and pickles helped balance the whole thing perfectly. This would be right at home on a North Shore plate lunch. Shake Fries: Perfectly fired crinkle fries shaken in that spicing they use. Dipped in the comeback sauce or on their own they were awesome. Banana Pudding: OMG so good. With the traditional vanilla wafer on top. Rich and luscious it was a perfect end to the meal. The only downside?
