good costumer serves. the lady's are super nice and patient. on top of that the 2 cheesecake that I ordered where very good

I went in there last week, and right off the bat, the woman behind the counter told me that you have to spend $20 to use a credit card. I said I wasn't spending $20. And for sure, after that crack, I sure wasn't. What business hikes up a credit card requirement to $20? I chose some items, and the girl was very nice, but the owner, a frowzy looking redhead with a rough face, was very curt. I don't need this when I'm a paying customer. The baked items were ok but not deserving of all the hype. I will never go back there. Here's a tip...if you want crumbcake, go to B&W in Hackensack. Much better and no attitude. read more

This bakery never disappoints! The employees are all very nice, friendly and polite. It's always clean and well stocked. Their muffins are plentiful and of varied flavors. The same for the donuts. They sell smaller individual cakes. Of course, i can't leave out the infamous crumb cakes ... whole, fruit-filled, or by the piece. Large shared parking lot and convenient hours. read more

We have been wanting to try this bakery since we pass it all the time and a few friends gave us good reviews. So today my husband went to place an order for some pies for Christmas. The lady behind the counter was very rude and stated " we don't take orders".,, first come first serve". Really?!? I'm confused at that one... you're a bakery and you don't take orders??? Nasty attitude!! Doesn't bode well with customers. Unfortunately, we will never actually try it now. You would think that customers attempting to make purchases during a pandemic would be welcomed.... So we went to Belleville ShopRite and they gladly took our order for 4 pies. read more

Styertowne Bakery continues to be excellent! The staff is always very helpful with customers. They always answer all my questions with the ingredients. I just picked up a wonderful blueberry tart with blueberry cream with a shortbread crust for $9.95. The blueberries were super fresh and the shortbread crust was delicious. If you purchased this tart elsewhere, It would be twice the price and not even as good. I was also eyeing a peach tart while I was there. Well, maybe I'll get that next time :-) The place is cash only. The Styertowne bakery is located in Styertowne Shopping Center in Clifton. A private parking lot is available. read more

I been wanting to check this bakery out for some time now but anytime I go to the near by Home Depot and end up just driving by it. But this time I finally turned into the strip mall its in and walked inside. They have so many desserts and even savory items, it's easy to get overwhelmed. I ended up getting a 8x8 signature Crumb Cake that was awesome and definitely worth the stop I made to the bakery. The first thing to strike me was the heft of the cake, it felt like 5 pounds of crumb toppings. Along with powdered sugared adorning surface and delicately crevices of crumb streusel forming into deep layers. The signature Crumb Cake After cutting a corner slice I could see the really amazing ratio of crumb to cake, which I can swear is about 70% crumb to 30% cake. It's a big slab of a crumb cake for 4 or more people. read more

Styertowne Bakery has always been our first choice for Birthday cakes and their famous crumb cake squares. However, their individual pastries lack substance and flavour. Although the pastries appear very appetizing, their price point does not justify their lack of quality. Styertowne Bakery is now cash only. Their behind the counter employees could be more patient with their customers. read more

I just happened to stumble across this bakery in search of the best crumb cake in New Jersey (I was visiting from California). Another bakery was recommended, however, they were closed for the week. I am so glad my search lead me here! It was so worth it! The crumb cake was absolutely amazingly buttery and the crumb to cake ratio was about 75% crumb and 25% cake! Perfect ratio in my opinion. Yum Yum!!! The owner, Tina, was so kind and welcoming! Her bakery proudly uses REAL and fresh ingredients and it is evident in the quality and taste of the Crumb Cake. Styertowne also knows that it all about the crumb, so you will not be disappointed. I also got a chocolate chip cookie which was really good too! Whenever I crave another buttery Crumb Cake from New Jersey, luckily Styertowne ships around the country! Finally, this is a small, family-owned Business and I was so happy to support it and will continue to order from them or visit them in the future! read more

I really wanted to like their iced cold coffee, but it tasted bitter unfortunately. Do come prepared though, cash only.

This bakery has a great selection of savory and sweet pastries. Def try the PBJ donut not too sweet but a bit much with the jelly The ham and cheese pockets were good but a lot of spots with no meat or cheese German cake was delicious enough for 6 people to try Also nothing had prices on it. I bought a crumb cake and 2 loaves of italian bread here and took it to a family reunion the crumb cake was raw and the bread was stale! No one ate it! Almost $40 for it to go in the garbage such a sin. Went in there weeks later just to share my feedback and give constructive criticizim and the red head lady got angry like I asked for something for free! They must have gotten too big to take constructive criticizim from long time patrons. They will never see another penny from my family or friends if I can help it. Smh read more

Great place to stop and pick up something sweet. FYI this is a cash only establishment, but they have a ATM inside. I love their donuts, especially the jelly ones. Everything is always fresh and the staff is always nice. read more

This bakery is pretty far away but when we heard they had great crumb cake, we made the trip. Spoiler alert, it's really good and worth the effort. We also tried the butter cake but it wasn't any where near as good as the crumb cake. They have a great selection of other products and temptations and we expect to try others in future visits. They had a tray of samples - chocolate cake with cream icing - and I double dipped. Yeah, it's that good. Go for the crumb cake and stretch for other goodies. Recommended. read more

Came here after discovering that it might rival the best crumb cake I have ever had- B&W bakeries in Hackensack. Unfortunately, was disappointed and highly recommend anyone to go to B&W if they want the BEST crumb cake ever. Lets start by the fact that for 2 crumb cakes it cost $27- we literally thought we heard the woman wrong. This is a bit ridiculous. However, we thought maybe it is worth it. Eh, it wasn't. The crumb cake is very moist- more so than B&W- but it totally lacked any flavor. No cinnamon, no butteriness, no real taste. I feel that they almost make their crumbs with crisco or vegetable shortening rather than butter, which totally simplifies the taste. It is pretty obvious they do not add any additional spices either. read more

We have been frequenting this baker for several years. After today, we will no longer conduct business here. My other half went in to pick up a crumb cake. As she was paying, the baker came out of the back, carrying the crumb cake, wearing no mask during a nation-wide pandemic. My other half stated that she was not comfortable purchasing the cake due to the baker not being conscious of COVID-19, and clearly baking, handling food, and speaking over the cake while mot wearing a mask. The response of the staff was: "Well, fine." No apology, no nothing. Will never return here. Such a shame. read more

Large assortment of pastries which makes it difficult to decide. Thought the apricot danish and Almond crumb cake was good. Almond crumb cake came in squares so you could get one piece instead of buying a whole loaf. Tried the chocolate cake as a sample and didn't think it was that great. Also tried the sour cream donut and it tasted like fried chicken - seems like they need to change the oil in the fryer more often. Also tried a cookie with raspberry filling which wasn't bad. Great bakery (that appears to specialize in quantity over quality) with some items definitely better than others. I would stick to the danish and crumb cake over the donut and chocolate cake. read more

Fantastic crumb cake. Worth the drive! One of the best I have ever had. Been in business since 1949. I am still a traditionalist and like plain crumb cake. But for the adventurous go for apple, blueberry and more. read more

Stopped in here Saturday afternoon while running another errand. They were out of crumb cake so this review is not about that (I still want to try them based on the hype). We got a big chocolate chip cookie and a Linzer tart. The cookie looked great, it also had a great texture. It just was bland and didn't have a good flavor. Even the chocolate chips weren't great and how do you mess up chocolate chips? They only tasted vaguely like chocolate. Now the linzer tart. I love linzer tarts, they are my favorite treat from a bakery. These things are not it. The cookie part was a weird texture and tasteless. The jelly part was fine but it was only like a small circle in the middle, it wasn't distributed across the cookie at all. To sum up, not worth the calories. read more

The crumb cake is absolutely worth the calories!! It is a higher crumb to cake ratio, but that is exactly how we like it.

Bought 2 items from here and was not impressed at all. The linzter tart cookie was just bleh and the crumb cake with cheese had a real funky taste. Also I thought they were quite pricey. I'm not sure I'll ever return to give them another chance. read more

The absolute best crumb cake in NJ! A lot of other good pastries as well but the crumb cake is what you want.

Do not go to this bakery. I don't have any idea how this bakery has so many good reviews. Stopped by to get half dozen donuts- 4 glazed crullers and 2 old fashioned and 1 corn muffin. EVERY SINGLE food item was raw in the middle. As to how this happens, I don't know. I can only assume that they rush their baking times to get high quantity out. Absolutely ridiculous to have spent almost $20 on bakery items that all went to the trash. If I didn't live so far, I would've driven back to return . read more

Best bakery in NJ! The best thing that ever came from me living in Clifton was stumbling across this place. While they are known for their crumb cakes, my personal favorite is the PB&J donuts. I don't even like donuts but these are amazing! Second top choice... triple chocolate cruellers but then there's the carrot cake (seriously want my wedding cake made of this, that's how good it is!) What's better than their food ? The service. The girls up front are polite, patient and welcoming (even behind a mask). There is a line since they are following procedures and only allowing a certain number of guests in at a time so you might have to wait. The counters are clean, the employees are masked and the food is not touched. Ready for the icing on the cake?? Their prices are VERY reasonable compared to other spots in the area. It doesn't get better than this! read more

Styertowne Bakery - Peanut butter & jelly donut! - Bakeries Near Me - Clifton, New Jersey

I'd heard so much hype about the crumb cake that I came here to get one to bring with me for Easter. When I got home I thought I could sneak a sliver of cake to see what all the hype was about and no one would be the wiser the following day. It was pretty good but not THAT good. The following morning I realized I hadn't stopped thinking about that darn crumb cake and I wasn't going to part with it after all. (Don't fret - I brought some of their Polish cheesecake to Easter which was damn good as well.) Now I'm here again because the crumb cake is THAT good. (And I do my best to hide it and not share with the rest of the family.) Bonus: the cake freezes well so you can portion it out and take a hunk whenever the mood strikes. (I don't think mine will last the weekend, sorry to say.) read more

Someone posted earlier that the bakery specializes in quantity over quality, and I felt that was pretty spot on. I was excited to try this place for the butterkuchen, not many bakeries offer this German butter cake. My bf loves crumb cake so I thought we'd get those two and whatever else we found in there that looked appetizing. The staff was helpful and so many of the baked goods looked delightful, but most of them were HUGE. The butterkuchen and crumb cake were of massive portions, and those were the only sizes they were sold in. I expected to pay a lot but it turned out to be around $20 which was really reasonable considering how much we had. In terms of taste, I just wasn't the biggest fan. We had this amazing butterkuchen that was so perfectly buttery, soft, sweet, and warm. But this bakery wasn't like that. Same with the crumb cake. Overall I thought it was way too heavy. My bf felt the crumb cake was great, so I'm glad we had Atleast that win! I think maybe we'd be back for the crumb cake, and maybe to try some smaller cookies krnsuch. read more

I was a bit disappointed with my visit here. First, the cashier looked at me like I was an alien when I was surprised by the cash only policy. As my order was about $30, this was a huge inconvenience and I must have missed the signage. Secondly, I went specifically to try the famous crumb cake and just didn't enjoy it. It definitely isn't a cake but more of a bread topped with crumb and it didn't taste fresh to me. I also thought it was strange that I had to buy a huge square of it and couldn't just buy a piece. There's no pricing in the store so it also felt uncomfortable to have to inquire about each price. read more

After 20 years of purchasing baked goods at Styertown bakery I am 100% disappointed in the raw crumb cake we purchased. When I called to ask what to do, as I now live 40 min away, I was told I can bring the cake back for a credit. Oh and I have to bring the cake back. Unreal. No offer of a refund only a credit. No offer to send me a check just a return for some other baked good that I didn't want. Now 24 hours later the owner calls me and Yells at me. WTH? Horrible customer service. This crumb cake was almost $15. It used to be worth it bit not anymore. read more

This is a bakery. Especially the one I remember when growing up. The bakery was special and unique. Every day the product was fresh and made onsite. Nothing was different. It was all made there and was made the way it was suppose to be made. Fresh for the day. This was a bakery. There where breads, and cakes, and crumb cakes, and bagels, and cookies. Lots of cookies. And don't forget the special items and a cake you might need for a special event. You would order it here and they would make it for you. Birthday cakes. Party cakes. Wedding cakes. It was here. And the prices were reasonable for whatever you wanted. This is stuff that was not from the grocery store in a box. These were items that where made there everyday and waiting for you. I went in today and got the crumb cake, the strudel, a few bagels and, what to many of us is the topper....the black-and-white cookie. So perfect. And not sweet. We like it and will go back. This is a bakery to remember. And there is a group of helpers who will guide you along as you decide what to eat today. Thanks. read more

Although this bakery has amazing desserts, the girl who answered the phone today was EXTREMELY rude. Grabbed crumb cake to take to 2 different family gatherings. Connecticut crew said "amazing!", I can now bribe my way into any family members house! The more discerning crew in NJ also gave 2 thumbs up! Cake is moist, crumb is great. I prefer this to the other famous place in Hackensack. read more

Positives: 1. "Triple Threat" doughnut was really great. Despite being full of sinfully deliciously balanced sweet chocolate flavor, the most striking thing was the soft and delicate texture of this cake doughnut's dough. I should have asked what constitutes the chocolate triumvirate, but obviously there were chocolate chips and a chocolate ganache, with the third element probably the actual chocolate in the dough or what could be chocolate pudding incorporated into the dough to explain that super delicate texture. 2. Tiramisu doughnut was very good, but no Triple Threat. The cream was a nicely rich mascarpone and the glaze imparted a equally nicely flavored mild coffee flavor. This yeast doughnut's dough was buttery and pretty airy. 3. The signature Crumb Cake was awesome and definitely worth the trip to try. The first thing to strike me wasn't the powdered sugared adorned surface nor the delicately creviced crumb streusel, but the heft of the cake. After cutting a corner slice I could see the really amazing ratio of crumb to cake, which I can swear is about 70% crumb to 30% cake. Crumb streusel was tasty with a buttery flavor and cinnamon sweetness and with a perfect crumbly texture. The cake portion was pretty interesting, as it was a little more dense than I expected and the flavor really reminded me of a danish. So you have a Crumb Cake Danish, which I'll sign up for anytime! Negative: 1. PB&J doughnut was not to my liking. The doughnut itself was fine, which was a plain sugared yeast doughnut, but I did not enjoy the PB&J filling. Peanut butter was pretty bland and what flavor was present was an unpleasant oily flavor. Jelly tasted like a grape jelly and was pretty pedestrian. For the Crumb Cake and "Triple Threat" doughnut alone, a trip to Styertowne is really worth it! read more

Yes, I know this is the second post in a row of Non-Italian foods or desserts but I promise I'll have many coming up this week. Jimmy Fallon may have crowed B&W Crumbcake the greatest in the world but the people at Styertowne Bakery beg to differ. This cash-only Bakery located in a strip mall just off Route 3 in Clifton has been around since 1949 and they also have their own heavy crumb cake. And at first glance, you may think in fact your about to have B&W. But once you bit into a piece, those that have grown up with B&W, will taste the difference. That doesn't mean Styertowne isn't good, far from it. Styertowne's crumb cake is actually sweeter with slightly less crumb and more cake. It's also a little less dense than B&W with the cake being airier. It's one of the better crumb cakes you'll ever have. I'm sure that there are the 2 teams screaming at their screens that one is better than the other but I'd be happy with either one with my cup of coffee. Thanks, Grace for picking some up for me. read more

I love this place! First off, you need to remember this is NOT an Italian bakery. If your looking for the perfect Italian canolli - let me ask you this - would you go to a Chinese restaurant for shephards pie?..... I hope not..... I repeat this is not an Italian bakery! This is a German bakery. I really only went in for a cup of coffee - got sucked into a chocolate crumb something or another with a thin layer of marzipan and then had a donut hole. I was in heaven for about 30 minutes after eating all the above. The owners are very dedicated and devoted to making sure they have some of the best goodies around. - plus Tina is an F'ing riot. I will try to avoid this place as much as possible unless I need to bring something to a special occasion. Their stuff is waaaay too good. read more
