My initial thought was that there were not many German style pastries/food like I imagined there might be (cannolis were the 1st item I saw when entering). I chose a blueberry scone to share (the price was steep at $4.50 - it would have been $1 more if I would have paid with a credit card). I the scone was slightly burnt underneath and lacked any real flavor, even the blueberries oddly had almost no flavor. I was excited to visit a German bakery but was left a little underwhelmed.

There is always a line of people here waiting to get their goodies. My chocoholic little one who loves to try out chocolate lava cake from different restaurants and bakeries, thinks that this place has the best one! Very moist and indulgent! I have not seen very many bakeries that make the "Brown Derby" cake. It is chocolatey, yet light and refreshing with the fruit. They have a deli counter, but we have yet to try any of the items there, as we always walk out of there with many cookies and other treats. But, we will one day.

Subsequent visits... actually I'm a big fan. From red velvet cookies to Sfogliatella to carrot cake - they have more than enough treats to quell your sweet tooth. The breads (the reason I find myself here most times) - incredible. Rolls (of varying sizes) as well as a damn perfect bastone (crunchy and flaky, ready to be piled high for a sandwich) not to mention... the almighty Pizza Bread?! Oh, yeah. A bit more rare to find but the only proper 'pane' if/when you're going to make an Italian hot dog. They also have a side/section with a full deli if savory is more your speed. Cool staff. Good pricing. Metered street parking but be warned... this one specific street feels more like a strip mall - with probably a dozen businesses (liquor stores to salons to fitness centers to a few restaurants to...) - all vying for those spots. That's how I found myself at Deb's. (And a much younger version of myself would've totally dipped into the dive bar right next door - Murph's - but now I'm old and boring.) The bakery smelled delectable, the two people behind the counter could not have been any nicer. The handful of items I tried... they were all 'okay' (at best). The bread (the reason I was urgently looking for a bakery when I found myself in Totowa) did the trick but wasn't great. The apple turnover was good. The wacky oversized chocolate chip cookies were not well-received by the rest of my family. The highlight of the visit - this mini apple strudel that the lady gave me while waiting for my debit card to go through. (Such a delightful little sugar bomb - I'd make the trek back up here JUST for a box of them.) 3-stars but Deb Pam got the bump-up thanks to the sweet lady and that comped little dessert.

Only critique I would give is I wish there were more chocolate chips in it.
