Having finally gone back after a long time, I can safely say the food is still great and a decent value. The building is still small but with lots of tables both inside and out for whichever fits your needs. Had the chipotle chicken eggs benedict and it was very good although very messy and runny. Tasted excellent especially the potatoes that came on the side. French toast was very good as well, which I tried with the berry toppings. Good for if you like your breakfast with a semi sweet and tart fruit topping. Worth the visit still and would recommend it for a nice breakfast or brunch. read more

Our experience at Studio One Cafe during weekend brunch was pretty impressive. As far as i can tell this place is staffed solely with efficient, adept workers. I suppose we arrived sometime near 10am, and there was already a wait list. We were told we could expect a table in 15 minutes, so we went for a walk around the neighborhood and came back to find a couple names UNDER our name on the list were already crossed off, and ours was still left uncrossed. We had missed our namecall! When we talked to the...listman, he told us he always OVERestimates wait time. So we were seated almost immediately after arriving back from our 15min. walk. Yaythanks! That listman manager dude is on top of everything, peeking in each room every 15 min. or so, to keep an eye on everything, and know what's going on, for maximum efficiency. The waitstaff and bus boy did flawless jobs. We weren't ready to immediately place an order, and needed to view the menu first, and were given perfectly sufficient time to view menu and order. Bottomless coffee mugs were refilled with perfect timing. Same with water glasses. Food was delicious -- I ordered a veggie eggs benedict; my partner ordered a half order benedict and biscuits and gravy. No mistakes on our orders, everything was perfect. Even though it was "rush hour," we weren't rushed out the door, and nor did we have to wait for the check. I got the traditional eggs benedict, which is a staple item I order whenever I go anywhere for brunch, so I'm kind of particular about them. The food was good, but mediocre. The hollandaise was thin and lacked any strong flavor and the poached eggs were overcooked. The sweet potato fries were actually my favorite thing. We had finished eating and they took our plates away, but then we sat for another 20 minutes waiting on our check. I observed multiple people experience the same frustration as I believe they only have 1 register to cash people out. This is a nice breakfast spot near the UO Law School hidden between Agate Alley and McMennamins. I have eaten here a few times in the last couple of years. I am always on the hunt for good blueberry pancakes which are not offered in many breakfast restaurants. These pancakes were huge and thick with lots of fresh blueberries. Much better than the ones I had at The Original Pancake house down the street. The eggs also tasted very fresh and I would guess they were organic eggs from a local farm. I asked for my bacon crispy and they cooked it perfectly, not too burnt and not too chewy. The hostess and servers were super friendly, and when they saw I used all of my maple syrup they offered me more which I thought was extremely nice. I have been going here since Covid started and the food is always good and the service decent. My visit today, however was absolutely terrible. We were seated and asked if we'd like to get drinks started. I ordered an iced coffee and my friends got water. We then waited for 25+ minutes for someone to finally come take our order. That was a little sucky but overall not a big deal. Our food came out fairly quickly but speed was about all Studio One had going for it at this point. The food was terrible. My "Chilaquiles" were cold, bland and missing tortilla strips. i pointed out the lack of tortilla and the waitress brought me a bowl of chips to dump on the chilaquiles. Needless to say this didn't really help the situation as they were still so bad I could hardly eat them. Meanwhile, one of my friends had ordered the Animal House Benedict. What came out was a sad looking Benedict with a puddle of Hollandaise underneath it and none on top. When she cut into her poached eggs, a bunch of trapped water ran out of the eggs and watered down what little of the sauce was there to begin with. And on top of all that, the dish was really bad to the taste. We all tried it and were grossed out. Needless to say she didn't eat her food either. My other friend got a halfway decent Benedict and he ate all of his. So, keeping count, 1 for 3 dishes turned out edible. When I finally got the server back to the table, I had to explain how bad mine and my friend's food was and thought, given the fact that we couldn't even eat it, she might comp it or try to make it better somehow. She comped my ice coffee... the one part of the meal that was decent. She charged us both for our uneaten food and told me not to use the S-word to describe the food in front of her. Obviously I'm highly disappointed in the service I was given. I'm super chill and easily forgiving and, had a decent resolution been provided, I would have been back in a few weeks to give Studio One another shot. As it stands though, I can't see myself ever going back there. I'm leaving two stars because of the good food I've had there in the past. However one experience this bad is enough for me. read more

The vegetables were basically uncooked, limp. The vegan gravy was just brown salty water. The rest of the experience was delightful though. I got veggie sausage patties (99% certain they're from Trader Joe's which contain egg whites, but they were still good). The orange juice tasted like Tropicana, but was better than most diner OJ. OMG this place! Good luck finding parking! The entrance is not clearly marked. It has like a black net entrance above like a arch that belongs in a garden to shade plants tacky. Really bad and I love onions. It was so strong it turned my stomach. You have to seat yourself and you are handed menus and told seat yourself no biggie! The wait wasn't at all. We came in and picked our seats and within 5 mins were greeted by a rather friendly waitress. I would like to say the waiters and waitresses were so nice and helpful and that was nice! When I opened the menu I automatically noticed the prices. For my half of my meal for biscuits and gravy 1 biscuit and a little bit of canned gravy it was $10.00. My iced tea was $4.00 all drinks except alcoholic drinks are $4.00 incredible. I have been to country clubs on Pebble Beach Country Club on 17 mile drive in California and drinks were not that expensive. I get it Covid! This isn't a reason to rob people! We're going through it also! It is loud in there because of the wood floors and the amount of people in there. Let's get to the food I ordered 1/2 of biscuits and gravy and it came with home fries or fried sweet potatoes. They say biscuit is homemade it isn't let me assure you! The gravy was canned and terrible. It came with what they tell you are grilled tomatoes and let me say they are done on a flat top with everything else and they were mushy and when you picked them up they were wimpy and folded in half because they weren't kissed by the flat top they we're macerated by the cook. Red onions are strong and the guaco had big cubes in it where I tasted it and all you could taste is onions! I love onions! but no other flavor profiles in the guaco. You couldn't even taste the avocado in it. The omelette was okay not worth the almost $14.00 price. Hubby ordered toast on side and 1 piece of toast came that in fact was just bread and not toasted at all! Usually when you order toast it comes with 2 pieces nope not at this place and it was over $2.00 for 1 piece of toast. So all around this place is awful. I was watching the waitresses take the plates back after people left and they were clearing the dirty dishes and no plates were clean! Not a one! This speaks volumes of the way the food is there. A good chef hasn't full plates returned to their kitchen! So prices, location, food, parking, accommodations and sound. The issues I face every time is choosing between the Famous Original French Toast (almond custard & berry compote) or the Crab Cakes Eggs Benedict with the awesome red potato homefries. Let me tell you, this restaurant was the best part of the date. We arrived around 10am, so there was a bit of a wait. It wasn't bad though, and the outside area is lovely. Inside, the walls are covered with posters and movie memorabilia, which makes the close quarters significantly more tolerable. The place is clean, vibrant, and an awesome restaurant to take anyone. The server was very polite, and had good recommendations. The menu however is what blew me away. They have crab cakes, eggs Benedict, scrambles, waffles, huevos rancheros, and anything else you could want. I ordered the crab cakes, and didn't even have to share because she was a vegan. Oh I have always loved Studio One. But since they started offering Mimosa's (very yummy, not to strong not too tangy) my love has turned into madly, deeply in love. The eggs benedict.... :-) .... They are so good. The Farmers benedict is all veggies & garlic smothered in homemade Hollandaise. I order the 1/2 for a VERY reasonable price and still cant finish it all. The service has always been great! We tend to go maybe 2 or 3 times a week and seem to always get the same server. But he's great! He know's what we want and has us our coffee before we even ask. And as for the Challah French Toast. I still feel that the Challah French Toast with the Berry topping is like a plate full of Care Bares smothered in My Little Ponies! I was very impressed by the yelp raves for this restaurant. I've been plotting and planning and finally the stars aligned and I was able to get my husband to bring me for lunch here. Parking was difficult- the street has 2 hour parking, but was all full. The lot in front of the restaurant has three spots, but a very tight turnaround. It was hard to get in AND out. The next issue was- how the heck do you get in?! Where the door would be intuitively, is a wall with lovely windows. Around the side to the left is the service entrance. Around to the right is a fenced-in patio seating area. It turns out one must go through the patio seating in order to access the restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is quaint and rustic. Unmatching chairs, movie posters on the walls, a very casual feel. It was comfortable. First stop- the bathroom! I'm 7 months pregnant- this is usually where I head first. I've come to find you can typically judge a restaurant based on the cleanliness and upkeep of its facilities, which should be addressed nightly, if not more often, giving staff and owners ample opportunity also to address any repairs that need to be made. The restroom was clean, but clearly old. Our waitress told us to sit anywhere and brought us waters quickly. I'm not sure if it was the heat of the day, or if we just didn't get any ice, but I sure didn't see any in my glass or in the pitcher. Usually you get so much ice in a pitcher and in the glass that your'e constantly refilling the glass- this was definitely a change. I was impressed by the menu selections and the all-day breakfast. I couldn't make up my mind! The crab cakes looked amazing, as did the french toast and eggs benedict or a lunch item. I didn't get much breakfast and got out to lunch late- I was starving! I noticed that many of the breakfast items offered avocado OR guacamole on the side as options, which is awesome! I noticed that their menu (in addition to being in desperate need of a spelling/grammar check) advertises many local and sustainable options. I made a note of it for later and decided to make this a monthly destination. Well.. given all of the flies that were all over the place, and getting annoyed swatting them off of me, I decided to come back more regularly during non-fly weather to try out all of the tempting dishes on my list. The waitress was absolutely sweet, very friendly and conversational. She took our order and offered cole slaw, sweet potato fries, home fries, and... she lost me after home fries. I LOVE home fries! I decided (coin flip) on a Mexican burger with grilled chicken avocado (important) and jack cheese with home fries. My husband went with the pulled pork bbq sandwich, which automatically came with cole slaw, and home fries. I spaced asking for another drink or more ice, and the waitress didn't ask. Our food was done in a reasonable amount of time, which is nice since I was already halfway through my hour lunch break. Both sandwiches were topped with a speared pepperonicini. I sincerely HATE these, and hoped the juice hadn't gotten on my bun. Gross. Why would a place automatically top someone's food with something so spicy? I can't imagine there's a huge call for these, like, anywhere, ever. WTF? I picked it off and noticed a lump of green snot on my chicken sandwich. I asked the waitress- the description clearly said "avocado," not "guacamole." ICK. I tried it, to be fair. The guacamole was salty as hell and tasted of onion- not much else. Just disgusting. The item description said "avocado," I was expecting sliced avocado. The waitress was very sweet and offered to take it back. 20 minutes left on my break, I declined and opted instead to scrape it off, which took off most of the cheese. The waitress offered to get me more cheese, which was great. She brought back a little dish of shredded jack, which is hard to get on a burger. She offered to have the chefs melt it, but I was just too hungry and too much in a hurry. The tomatoes were fresh, but one still had the stem end and wasn't edible. I stole my husband's. He hates tomatoes anyway. My bun was flat and soggy, my chicken was thick but very dry. I choked down the chicken with a ton of ketchup. The biggest disappointment (ok, next biggest from the avocado) were the home fries. YUCK! Mine tasted stale and old and some were barely lukewarm. Many were darn-near burnt. It looked like they had been refried from earlier in the day. My husband and fellow potato-holic didn't eat his either. My husband reports that his pork was dry and crunchy in some spots, but that the bbq sauce was one of the best he'd had. I stole his cole slaw, which vacillated between huge leaf chunks of cabbage, cabbage dust, and every size in-between. It was a little vinegary but otherwise flavorless.
